This talk page has been shortened. I have selected a few articles which I find worthy of keeping (especially my barnstar, and my first ever message), and deleted the rest. After I get your message and resolve whatever the issue is, I will usually delete it, unless I judge it worthy of keeping. Thank you.

Agent of Consent
Hi, I reverted your change to the age of consent article. Sorry to step on your toes. You added "It is illegal in the United States for someone over the age of 18 to have sexual relations with someone under the age of consent, which is refered to as statutory rape "
The problem is that the Age of Consent laws are much more complex than this. It varies widely by legal jurisdiction. In most states in the U.S. there are two primary criteria, first is usually the age difference between the two people. The second is the role of the person who the adolescent is involved with. Usually the age difference is something like 4 years, but can be staggered even in one state where the difference in age depends on the age of the adolescent. As I said, common is a four year difference. Secondarily, the role of the older person is important. If it is a school friend, that is one thing, it if is a relative, a priest, a teacher, a therapist, or some other person in a position of "authority" over the adolescent, the age difference often is not relevant.
Getting back to your statement -- in many states a 15 year old girl and a 19 yearl old boy would not be breaking the law if they were boyfriend and girlfriend (as long as he was not in a position of authority). Note that he is older than 18, having sexual relations with someone under the age of consent. A 13 year old and a 17 year old might be legal in some places. Of course, over the age of consent, (16 in many places) the girl could choose to have sexual relations with anyone (not in a position of authority over her) a long as they were older than the age difference (for a 16 year old, from age 12 through any age -- 25, 30, 50 for instance. as She had reached the age of consent, she could consent as she chose. Again, this does often not include withsomeone in a position of authority, or a family member. Atom (talk) 04:18, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Result of Sino-French War
Do you have any particular reason for disputing that the Sino-French War ended in a French victory, or do you just not like the thought of the French having won? I have summed up the opposing views as fairly as I could in the opening paragraph, and I believe that I have been, if anything, too generous in referring to Chinese claims that they won the war. I suppose a possible compromise would be to split the difference between 'French victory' and 'ceasefire' with a formulation like 'result and significance disputed', and this formula could then be extended to hundreds of other Misplaced Pages articles on battles where one user objects to the majority consensus. I'm sure there's a French user out there who would like to see this formula applied to the Battle of Waterloo, for example. But I think some respect must be paid to the conventional verdict on the war. The result of the Sino-French War was thrashed out on the discussion page for this article long before I started rewriting it last summer, and I thought that for once consensus had been reached. Obviously I was wrong.
For the time being I've reverted your edit, and I look forward to an animated discussion on the result of the Sino-French War in the next few weeks. I would love to succeed in stirring up controversy over this 120-year-old war, as it might push the sales of my forthcoming book on the subject into respectable figures ...
Djwilms (talk) 04:21, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- Please read the "aftermath" section of the Sino-French war article. It states that France got "most of what it wanted". If you read the section, it should answer a few questions. Also, look at most of the battles and you will see China lost most of them and suffered heavier causalties. User:Reenem (talk)
- I know, I wrote all the articles.
- Sorry, have I got you wrong? I thought it was you who changed the verdict from 'French victory' to 'ceasefire'. If I've been too hasty, I apologize.
- You're certainly right that the French won the war. That's the main thing.

New! Pakistani military history task force
I am contacting you because I see you have contributed to articles about the military history of Pakistan or its armed forces. To help improve Misplaced Pages's coverage of this important topic, and to provide support and coordination of individual editors, the Military history WikiProject has now set up a newPakistani military history task force.
If you would like to join up, as a founder member of this important new initiative, please add your name to the Participants' List. Thank you for your time. I hope you can help. Roger Davies 06:31, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Editing survey
Hi Reenem. My name is Mike Lyons and I am a doctoral student at Indiana University. I am conducting research on the writing and editing of high traffic current events articles on Misplaced Pages. I have noticed in the talk page archives at 2008 South Ossetia war that you have contributed to the editing or maintenance of the article. I was hoping you would agree to fill out a brief survey about your experience. This study aims to help expand our thinking about collaborative knowledge production. Believe me I share your likely disdain for surveys but your participation would be immensely helpful in making the study a success. A link to the survey is included below. An explanation of my project is included with the survey.

Your RFA
Hi Reeneem. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I would strongly recommend you withdraw your RFA, you have very little chance of passing, as you have very little edits outside articlespace - this isn't a bad thing, it just doesn't show any knowledge of how to use them, an admin needs to have experience of fighting vandalism, the deletion policies and helping resolve disputes, to name a few. Don't take this personally, just keep going as you are--Jac16888 06:41, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- I, too, would recommend you withdraw from this RfA, it will not pass as people have too many concerns with your temperment per your user page. Displaying such an offensive view of the world doesn't exactly inspire confidence that you're going to handle disputes with a calm manner. I'm impressed with your work in articlespace however, so keep up the good work there. In future, before an RfA, you may wish to participate in some administrative areas such as WP:AfD and WP:CSD, or whatever suits your interests the most. Regards, --—Cyclonenim | Chat 14:09, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- I enjoyed your user page, and you are much smarter than an old guy like me ... but not wiser! Before you run for Admin again, it would be wise (maybe even smart) to tone down the rhetoric! A fan. Ret.Prof (talk) 15:06, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Your RfA
Sorry, I have closed your RfA as an early close, as it appeared quite obvious that at this moment you had no chance of passing. Perhaps it would have been better if you had asked some experienced users for advice before running, then this frustration might have been avoided. I'd recommend waiting at least several months before you think of trying again (some people on the RfA said at least a year). Regards, --Fut.Perf. ☼ 15:50, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Hints on Improvement
Hey Reenem, this is just free advice, you can take it, leave it, delete it, I don't care. When reevalutating a vote, first take a look at the neutral advice offered to you, as that is priceless:
To Reenem, your user page as the thing points out is alarming and would be a good first step for improvement.
I cannot support you this time round Reenem but I'll have no problem supporting a future RfA once the above issues have been addressed, with that said, I would strongly encourage you to reevaluate what you'd like to do with the tools, both things you listed under Q1 can be done without the aid of extra tools.
When you improve your attitude, and remove some of the more worse stuff on your page, and wait a year or so for all those blocks to fade away (on the way maybe aquiring even more edits), Your'e going to get a support from me.
You have passion that drives you, and that is a good thing. However, some of your statements can be offensive to others.
Here is a list of some of the things that you can improve: Hi, Im here to show of my smartness. - Than show it, don't tell us about it. Remember English class? Show, don't tell. Saying "I'm smart" makes you look stupid, even though you have the well deserved barnstar from Offliner, which clearly shows that you are smart. But instead of saying "I'm Smart" - just display the barnstar.
Any questions? Didn't think so. - believe it or not, that may come off as rude to some people, so just don't do it.
In the "Articles I Created" section, don't list an article twice.
I like your sense of humor, but some people might not. Clarifying that you are being humorous in the last two sections can go a long way towards improvement.
Another thing that you may consider doing, is participating in the RfC discussions, in your area of expertise.
I hope these few hints help,

Polite request
I have noticed that you often edit without an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This is considered an important guideline in Misplaced Pages. Even a short summary is better than no summary. An edit summary is even more important if you delete any text; otherwise, people may think you're being sneaky. Also, mentioning one change but not another one can be misleading to someone who finds the other one more important; add "and misc." to cover the other change(s). Thanks! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:58, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

- You are mistaken. The West Bank is Palestinian territory held under military occupation by Israel. It is not "in Israel". "Judea and Samaria", more properly the "Judea and Samaria Area" is the Israeli administrative name for the territory goverened by the military, it does not include East Jerusalem which likewise is part of the occupied Palestinian territories. I do not plan on arguing the point, there is not an actual dispute about these facts in the sources, but please do not continue making that move. nableezy - 04:18, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I agree a montage would be the best. Hi, while the wikipedia namespace and articles should ideally be separate, the link in the vandalism page is useful to users not used to navigating WP:space. Many other commonly used WP: pages can be got to through a standard search (search for warnings or tags for example), and although these other pages a linked in a disambigation page, as vandalism has no disambig page, I think it makes sense to have it linking through from the default page. Harper's Weekly
I have a few reservations about the H. Strickland Constable illustration, which together with the Nast anti-Irish cartoon you also added may create an emphasis problem. Harper's was a fairly typical publication of its day in its racial attitudes; it wasn't Der Stürmer, although a reader unfamiliar with HW may get that impression from the evidence in our article. At minimum, I think the Strickland Constable drawing should be pushed further down on the page; this would also put it in chronological order vis-à-vis the other illustrations.
But there's a more fundamental question: Do you know which issue of Harper's Weekly the illustration appeared in? As far as I can tell the original source for this file is a course outline connected with the Nebraska Dept. of Education, where the illustration is alleged to be from Harper's Weekly, no year specified. The author of the course outline is unidentified, which makes for a less-than-ideal source, and I strongly suspect that the attribution is mistaken. It's difficult to tell from the blurry jpeg in Commons, but the font in the text looks wrong for Harper's. What is clear is that the lines are about 125 characters long, which is a problem; in the late 1890s Harper's articles were always laid out in double columns of about 40 characters per line. I've gone through the Harper's online archive for 1899, and didn't find this piece, or anything resembling it. Disregard this--the archive I saw was for Harper's Monthly, not the weekly magazine. Ewulp (talk) 06:26, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
My guess is that the source of this is H. Strickland Constable's Ireland from One or Two Neglected Points of View, which was apparently published in 1888 and again in 1899. What looks like a "Harper's Weekly" watermark at the upper right of the drawing at the NDE website may be Strickland Constable crediting Harper's with the engraving that illustrates his own text seen below it, but this is speculation on my part. I think the jpeg should be removed from the article unless there is a better source that establishes the origin of both text and image as Harper's. Ewulp (talk) 02:51, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick response! Yes, I saw both of those. The illustration on page 146 of Material modernism: the politics of the page has a caption that says that it comes from Strickland Constable's book; it doesn't mention Harper's. Elsewhere on page 146, Harper's Weekly is mentioned, but only as the source of the Thomas Nast illustration (figure 31) printed on page 147. Nothing here indicates that the Constable image came from Harper's. The Scientific Racism article seems to be repeating the same mistake, and Misplaced Pages can't be cited as a source for Misplaced Pages. Ewulp (talk) 03:48, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Jerusalem
How familiar are you with it? Chesdovi (talk) 20:53, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
- No! What I mean is: Are you familiar with the city itself. Have you been there? Where do you live? Chesdovi (talk) 20:57, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well that explains it then! First you thought the Tower of David was the Western Wall, then that Our Lady of the Spasm is in the Armeanean Quarter! I cannot fix your amendments at present, but will try to at work tomorrow. Chesdovi (talk) 21:14, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
Never mind, I fixed them already (I hope).--RM (Be my friend) 22:04, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

2006 Lebanon War
Hi Reenem. I tagged a couple statements you added to the 2006 Lebanon War article as needing sources. The information is probably correct, and I'm not trying to be a dick, but I couldn't find it in the sources, so if you could provide sources to support the statements that would be great. Thanks! ← George 22:40, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
I got the sources. Ooops, did I put in the wrong one? Here, let me fix this.--RM (Be my friend) 22:48, 26 April 2010 (UTC)
- Hi again Reenem. Thanks for adding that source. On another issue, you've twice removed that Israel was releasing clustered munitions into towns and villages in southern Lebanon. I added this because (a) that's exactly what the source says ("Israel hit dozens of towns and villages with cluster munitions, causing long-term and large-scale disruption of the largely agricultural economy. Human Rights Watch research found that many of the attacks on populated areas did not appear to have had a specific military target."), and (b) we say a couple sentences later that Hezbollah was firing at "civilian-populated areas in northern Israel". It's non-neutral to list one side as firing into civilian-populated areas, while at the same time not listing the other side as having done so - especially when the sources say that both did so. Would you prefer we add that Israel was releasing clustered munitions into towns and villages in southern Lebanon (or perhaps into "civilian-populated areas in southern Lebanon"?), or that we remove the "civilian-populated areas" from the mention of northern Israel? Cheers. ← George 23:11, 26 April 2010 (UTC)

If you want, you could try yourself. I used Picture Manager to reduce image sizes and crop, then Paint to put them all together. Chesdovi (talk) 17:14, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
Yar'Adua
Your edit to the lead saying he left Goodluck in charge was absolutely the opposite of what happened. I'm not sure if you read the section at the bottom that deals with this, but it explicilty states he did not do that and hence the controversy. Was that an attempt at WP:OR or simply laziness?Lihaas (talk) 18:20, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
No, I just misinterpreted the bottom after skimming through it.--RM (Be my friend) 19:04, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, and actually, Goodluck technically was in charge, as he was Acting President, though not officially.

Dubai
Hi!
Following a discussion at the talk page, I've recently made a series of edits which may or may not be considered controversial. I'm letting you know because you've recently edited Dubai. If you disagree with my edits I'd welcome the chance to discuss this at the talk page (or, indeed, anywhere!)

Re: Ofakim
Hi Reenem! Unfortunately, Ofakim is not really close to where I live and it is not likely that I'll be there in the near future (going specifically to take pictures is out of the question in the coming few months). However, please take a look at the Hebrew article at: http://he.wikipedia.org/אופקים and see if you need anything there that's not already on commons. I can also request a photo at the Hebrew Misplaced Pages, although I'm not really sure whether any of the active members there live near Ofakim (maybe just Beersheba). Names of armed forces
Thankyou Reenem for your efforts to name the organisations by their proper names. However I would ask you to carefully check the current situation before you rename pages. The Sudanese military were named, the Americans thought, the Sudan People's Armed Forces when the Library of Congress Country Study was written in 1991. However since that time the name has changed to the Sudanese Armed Forces, as is evidenced by the wordings of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and other documents. Thus please carefully check the current names when renaming pages. Kind regards from Aotearoa New Zealand, 203.97.106.191 (talk) 00:14, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

About Holon
Many of you may have noticed that I asked you to help me out with Holon because I messed it up. Well, its finally fixed! Thank you all for your quick responses and efforts to set things right.
--RM (Be my friend) 05:59, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Reenem! I don't know what the original problem was, but it doesn't seem like it was entirely fixed. The article was still at Ḥolon, so I moved it back. Please don't make such moves, as there is general consensus against using diacritics in Hebrew article names, plus a guideline. Please let me know if you need any help with article moves. Cheers, Ynhockey 11:29, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- I have spent quite a bit of time fixing up the layout of this article. The photo you insist on having in the lead is a very poor image. It is "burnt out" which is a photographic term for the angle of the sun causing the colors to fade. It is not a representative image of Holon. It shows a dump or building site in the background. In addition, your resizing of the infobox in this and many other articles creates an obstruction to the text. Photos and maps in the infobox should not be so large as to thrown the whole article off kilter. Best--Geewhiz (talk) 14:58, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
- I have to say that I agree with Gilabrand here. The best picture to represent a city isn't the one that can capture the most buildings. At the very least, it has to be of high quality (if such a picture is available), and if possible show one or more city icons (landmarks, streets, squares, etc.). The 250px size is also fine for an infobox; please keep in mind that not everyone browses Misplaced Pages through a huge HD monitor, and many of the readers are using laptops and netbooks (and increasingly, mobile devices, but there's a special version for that). —Ynhockey 00:44, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Kiryat_Ata_city.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:Kiryat_Ata_city.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Misplaced Pages's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:26, 25 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. File permission problem with File:Beitar.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Beitar.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. feydey (talk) 22:11, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

ARBPIA notice
As a result of an arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee has acknowledged long-term and persistent problems in the editing of articles related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, broadly understood. As a result, the Committee has enacted broad editing restrictions, described here and below.
- Any uninvolved administrator may, on his or her own discretion, impose sanctions on any editor working in the area of conflict if, despite being warned, that editor repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Misplaced Pages, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process.
- The sanctions imposed may include blocks of up to one year in length; bans from editing any page or set of pages within the area of conflict; bans on any editing related to the topic or its closely related topics; restrictions on reverts or other specified behaviors; or any other measures which the imposing administrator believes are reasonably necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the project.
- Prior to any sanctions being imposed, the editor in question shall be given a warning with a link to this decision; and, where appropriate, should be counseled on specific steps that he or she can take to improve his or her editing in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Discretionary sanctions imposed under the provisions of this decision may be appealed to the imposing administrator, the appropriate administrators' noticeboard (currently WP:AE), or the Committee.
These editing restrictions may be applied to any editor for cause, provided the editor has been previously informed of the case. This message is to so inform you. This message does not necessarily mean that your current editing has been deemed a problem; this is a template message crafted to make it easier to notify any user who has edited the topic of the existence of these sanctions.
Generally, the next step, if an administrator feels your conduct on pages in this topic area is disruptive, would be a warning, to be followed by the imposition of sanctions (although in cases of serious disruption, the warning may be omitted). Hopefully no such action will be necessary.
This notice is only effective if given by an uninvolved administrator and logged here.
General warning
Please notice the above statement. Your edits at Gaza flotilla clash have consistently been removed as not being neutral and properly sourced. You have continued to readd them. Additionally, this article is currently on a 1 revert restriction meaning continuing to re-add this content is sanctionable. Please ensure your future edits are in-line with consensus and discuss controversial changes on the talk page. Continuing to add unsourced, non-neutral commentary or continuing to revert changes can lead to a block. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Regards, Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 03:50, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
