Thankyou for the advice
Thanks, Alphax. I've actually been here for a few months, lurking and sucking as much information as possible into my brain, but I only just added my name to the users list. Thanks. —Vanderdecken 3 July 2005 14:45 (UTC)
Hello from AlMac
- I am also new to this place.
- I was born in Aberdeen Scotland in 1944, and now live and work in Evansville Indiana.
- We share some common interests.
- I enjoy some PC games, mainly empire building like Civilization and Railroad Tycoon.
- I am a book-a-holic, big time.
- I first started reading science fiction books when I was 9 years old.
- People who visit my home, who are not big readers, sometimes ask in amazement if I read all of them. Oh yes I say, some favorites even 20 30 times.
- The last time I moved, after I managed to get rid of a lot by donating to nursing homes, veterans hospitals, church groups and so forth, I had about 25,000 paper backs to move, about 1,000 magazines, about 1,000 hard backs. The collection has got to be at least double that now.
- My living room has been taken over by fllor to ceiing book shelves that run the length of the room, with a pathway around, and more book shelves along the outer walls, and my bedroom is almost as bad, from perspective of books everywhere.

Reading for the Future
I also help out a little with Reading for The Future. I suggest that if you are also interested in Science Fiction, and after you have shown your parents what I am saying, to see what they think about this, that you might also like to subscribe to the Internet discussion group Reading for the Future.
This is a group, primarily made up of School Teachers and Librarians, who seek Science Fiction material that would be appropriate to use in the classroom. I am NOT that ... I am a computer programmer in a type of computers other than PCs ... but I think this is a worthy objective that perhaps I can help with.
There are some very famous Science Fiction writers who participate in the discussion.
Typical discussion, since I joined the group, has been
- what people thought of recent TV Movie on Science Fiction Themes
- looking for particular themes in Science Fiction that is non-controversial (suitable for most any audiences) such as that which
- shows pros & cons of space elevators but is realistic with respect to what we can do right now or in near future
- depicts people who have handicaps who are able to have a full productive life
- depicts challenges of underdog in our society, like women, minorities, artificial intelligence

Voting syle
Hi!
I'm glad you like my voting style! You should check out the massive argument that erupted after I tried to make a voting template. You can either use my templates (see my userpage under the "my voting" style and just copy and paste each of those templates as appropriate.
Alternatively you can make your own sub userpage (just copy off the code from support, oppose, neutral) and make the page into a template like what I've done.
Good luck!

Thanks Fir. Much appreciated. —Vanderdecken 10:22, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

Your edits
You really felt it necessary to add you sig to a comment in my archive? Wow... that's dedication. See ya around. --LV 14:33, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
Not sure if that was meant to make me feel bad or good. If bad, then sorry, if good, then thanks. I just remebered making that edit and realised I'd never signed it. —Vanderdecken 15:08, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
- No, no, no. I didn't mean it to come off as condescending. I just noticed you added your sig and thought it fairly odd. Seeing as that edit was so long ago, it was just surprising to see someone add a signature. No harm intended. See ya around. --LV 15:17, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. No hard feelings. Seeya! —Vanderdecken 15:27, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
Pic of the day
Hi
Since you nominated Image:Casing.jpg on WP:FPC I thought you might like to know that it will be up for Picture of the Day tomorrow. If you get a chance, you can check the associated caption for accuracy at Misplaced Pages:Picture of the day/November 26, 2005. -- Solipsist 08:40, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks Solipsist, I'll take a look. —Vanderdecken 15:20, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for your efforts
Hi, although the nomination of my picture Misplaced Pages:Featured picture candidates/Ladder to heaven failed, I would like to sincerely thank you for your efforts to improve it.--SylwiaS 09:50, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your nice words. I'm glad that you enjoyed "How to deal with Poles". I've read the introduction on your page, and I must say that although I don't know BBC radio at all, I love the BBC TV series. "Blackadder" is one of my favourite, esp. the Regency one. I also like "Office", I used to work in a similar company and they are so right about it and extremely funny.--SylwiaS 14:21, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

XBOX 360 pictures.
Can you provide sources for these two? Image:X360 Console-Controller.png and Image:X360 Logo.png It's just that they are rather large, filesize wise, and closer examination suggests they've been converted to png from jpeg, leading to inefficient optimisation. If you can point me to original images, I'll see what I can do.--Drat (Talk) 14:19, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- The transperancy seems to work fine in IE. Also, I just found the page on that site with the pictures, so I'll get to work.--Drat (Talk) 16:55, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
- Actually, I can't find all the images on that site, and the ones you uploaded are often higher resolution. I really need to turn in soon, so I'll just do the main infobox image.--Drat (Talk) 17:36, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Image:X360 Console-Controller.png listed for deletion
An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:X360 Console-Controller.png, has been listed at Misplaced Pages:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Main Page redesign
- Hi, I noticed that you said on the redesign talk page, "Just stick the Italian header on the top of Draft A and I'll be happy." There's now a Draft H, where I used my minimal html skills to do basically exactly that. :) What do you think? :) Zafiroblue05 23:39, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
User page contest
Hi,

Regarding the Best User Page Project
Let us try an experiment. Until further notice, the voting system will be open, using the method described in the Guidelines. This will make us understand how reliable the current system is and whether the project has a real possiblity to expand into hundrends of users or not.
All users are encounaged to display the {{BestUserPage}} banner on their User Page.
All members all encoraged to display the {{BUP}} banner in their User Page, and also notify that project has started.
We will refer to the votes for this first session as "March 2006" in the archive.

vote images
Would you please consider not using images in your votes? It's an unnecessary addition, makes it seem to others that you consider your vote more important than others, and wrongly encourages others to do the same. It is an unnecessary use of resources - images in particular cause headaches for the server admins who keep the site going.
Also, if you are going to use personal support and oppose templates, please use substitute them every time, as in {{subst:User:Vanderdecken/Oppose}}. Thanks. -- Netoholic @ 08:06, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
- Pleae note that I have had to revert Netoholic's removal of your images before you had a chance to respond as he did not have policy to back him up nor did he have good cause or permission to remove content from your subpage. Jtkiefer ---- 08:26, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
