Locke finished with rounds of 69-72-70-68 for a total of 279, breaking the Open Championship record of 283 that he had tied just the previous year.

The 1950 Open Championship was a golf tournament held at Royal Troon Golf Club in Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland. South Africa's Bobby Locke established a new tournament scoring record on his way to a second consecutive Open Championship title.

Defending champion Bobby Locke shared the 54-hole lead with Roberto De Vicenzo and Dai Rees. In the final round Locke closed with a round of 68, two-shots better than De Vicenzo and three ahead of Rees. Fred Daly, the 1947 Open champion, closed with rounds of 69-66 to tie Rees for 3rd. Locke finished with rounds of 69-72-70-68 for a total of 279, breaking the Open Championship record of 283 that he had tied just the previous year.

This was the first Open Championship to be held at Royal Troon since 1923.
