  • If I leave a message for you: Please respond on your talk page. I'll probably add it to my watchlist, but if I miss something, feel free to leave a talkback.

  • If you leave a message for me: I will most likely respond here. Either add this page to your watchlist or ask me to notify you of a response on your talk page.

  • Note: I reserve the right to decline or withdraw from a situation that is escalating or uncomfortable, without giving a reason, or to take further action through permissable means. (See this policy.)

  • If I mistakenly called your edits as vandalism when I reverted them, it was probably because you did not leave an edit summary. Please realize that, in many cases, unexplained edits are indistinguishable from vandalism! This also applies to Rollbacks.

  • If you're here to troll, harass, or vandalise, I might not be able to stop you, but you will be reverted...and beware the giant dice.

Mars Needs Women

Mars Needs Women was just on television yesterday, and I caught it part-way through, to see a lengthy sequence of the X-15 test flights, not realizing the stock footage was somehow slapped into this schlock sci-film. I'm starting to do a bit of a rewrite on the film, but it turns out to be a classic bad film right up there with Plan 9 from Outer Space. Take a gander, or even a look. I'll bring Tom and Crow along with me! ;) - The Bushranger One ping only 15:53, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
BZ, I took out the Batgirl photo (before I realized you had added it), as it's a non-free image. Since the article is not about Batgirl directly, I don't think a Fair-use rationale would be accepted, but if you want to add one to the image's page, and re-add the photo to the article, that's fine. - BilCat (talk) 18:16, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

No problemo, I think the ludicrous film deserves a screenshot anyway. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 15:08, 23 June 2012 (UTC).

in case you're in the neighborhhod

Humanity's End end has been expanded and improved to the point where its nominator has happily withdrawn. Any real point to keeping the AFD open? Schmidt, 05:21, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Honestly, I'm not sure - that "merge" !vote has me hesitating. - The Bushranger One ping only 05:27, 23 June 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough, but that editor has not re-visited the discussion since the article's improvements. Thanks for looking in and catching my typo. Schmidt, 08:24, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Pete Orr

Updated DYK queryOn 23 June 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Pete Orr, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the death of racer Pete Orr was a driving force for insurance reform in Florida? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Thanks from the DYK team Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:16, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

Jackboots on Whitehall

Winston Churchill takes on Hitler in miniature! An ultimately stupid vanity project that ended up on screen. It features period authentic props but ...what were they thinking??? FWiW Bzuk (talk) 15:11, 23 June 2012 (UTC).

I believe the answer to that question is, 'they weren't'! - The Bushranger One ping only 15:38, 23 June 2012 (UTC)

NASCAR newsletter

Do you have any good ideas for the newsletter's Picture of the Month (which had to be uploaded in the past month)? -- Nascar1996

Heh, well, most of this month's pictures are ones I uploaded from Flickr . But maybe either RB's picture of Piquet's car, or this one? - The Bushranger One ping only 04:57, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
Since RB's photos will probably be uploaded after Monday, I guess we'll go with the Tabasco Pontiac picture. -- Nascar1996 05:03, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
Well, he already added Piquet's car... - The Bushranger One ping only 05:10, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

More of same

Hi, The Bushranger; it appears more sock or meatpuppets are popping up at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Jarred Land. I really don't know the protocol on this, and whether one should keep re-opening the topic at AIV. I might drop a line to Black Kite as well. Cheers, 99.156.68.118 (talk) 10:38, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

I've added them to the SPI - already had the IPv6 fellow there, and the IPv4 one is obvious enough he's now blocked for a week as part of the overall inexplicible cloud of socks and meatpuppets around this issue. - The Bushranger One ping only 15:36, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I've also added a question there about another IP. Cheers, 99.156.68.118 (talk) 15:59, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

the notability of holders of certain occupations

You were the first person to call upon WP:SOLDIER -- a wikidocument I was unfamiliar with. I took a look at it, when you first called upon it. I just took a closer look at it. I saw that it referenced Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Military_history/Archive_90#Notability_Military_Biography -- which I have also just read.

I notice that the essay and the archived discussion both take the position that if RS establish an individual held flag rank that individual should be considered notable, even if the RS wouldn`t fulfill the expectations for an ordinary BLP.

Can I assume your reference to the essay shows you accept that individuals who fill certain occupations should be considered notable, even if the RS wouldn`t fulfill the expectations for an ordinary BLP?

Thanks in advance for your answer to this question, which I thought was too general for Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/David Conn (judge). Feel free to simply say “yes”, if that is your position. Um, but, if your position is “no”, then, no offense, I would be surprised that you would call upon WP:SOLDIER, which is largely based on the opposite position. Geo Swan (talk) 11:43, 24 June 2012 (UTC)

The answer is..."it depends". WP:SOLDIER says they're generally (pardon the pun) notable; however in the vast majority of cases somebody with stars on their shoulders will pass WP:GNG anyway simply because they're generals/admirals and, thus, written about. However there are a few topics for which, for the use of Misplaced Pages's readers, we need to kick reason to the curb and go beyond the impossibleinclude them despite their being of borderline notability, as Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia and a gazzeteer, and, thus, while minding WP:ITSUSEFUL, if it's something that can be reliably verified and is something that Misplaced Pages's readers can reasonably expect to be included, then it should be: for instance, the presidents of smaller countries might not have much written about them in the Western press beyond "X is the leader of Y", but they are notable because of their position. - The Bushranger One ping only 15:33, 24 June 2012 (UTC)
