:: To be fair, getting all worked up and obsessing over something until you beat it into the ground is kind of your standard way of handling things, YRC. You get huffy with admins you disagree with and leave multiple posts questioning their opinions, and attack admins for not doing what you want them to do on your schedule as if they were your paid employees, and then laughably threaten their tools. A few days ago you spent hours and multiple posts accusing a user (who's been here six years) of being a sockpuppet and then never even filed an SPI. And that after you told another user to retract his own SPI accusation or file a report. And this is just in the last two weeks. | |||
:: I'm not familiar with this current discussion, although YRC, you certainly seem to be commenting more than anyone else about matters that already seem settled. I'm just pointing out that hunting down what you consider to be "injustice", and continuing to beat a situation into the ground seems to be something you're still having a lot of trouble with. No harm meant, just an observation. ] (]) 20:08, 29 June 2012 (UTC) |

Fixing a deleted page
I would like to put a corrected entry for "Mark Daniels." I have gone through the article and have added sources and links to verify the information for the entry. http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Talk:Mark_Daniels&action=edit&redlink=1 I think the website directed me to talk to you before added similar content back to the page. Can you please help me?
hawkeye (talk) 07:41, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Your best bet is probably to create a new article afresh, since the prior version was deleted for failure to assert any credible claim of notability. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:46, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
AfD and PROD notifications
Hi Runningonbrains,
Back in November, you got either an AfD or PROD notification, which was part of the template testing project's experiments. If you could go here and leave us some feedback about what you think about the new versions of the templates we tested (there are links to the templates), that would be very useful. (You can also email me at mpinchukwikimedia.org if you want.) Thanks! Maryana (WMF) (talk) 20:44, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
MSU Interview
Dear Runningonbrains,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.9.34.167 (talk) 20:55, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
Venturi Effect (tornadoes)
Hi there - It seems we have a slight bit of an editing discrepancy regarding the mention of the Venturi Effect in the article on tornadoes. You're probably justified in removing it (I'm certainly not going to force the issue, so that needn't concern you), but I do think it's an important thing to understand in terms of the overpasses' lack of safety. You said in one of your edit summaries that "no source explicitly mentions the Venturi Effect" but there is one that does, and it actually comes from NOAA (). Like I said, I'm not going to press it (you're likely far more knowledgeable than I on the subject), but could you tell me, after reviewing the source I provided, whether you still feel the same way? Thanks. Cheers. Sleddog116 (talk) 02:56, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
- I promise I did look for a source for the Venturi effect, but did not find one. I didn't have a problem with mentioning it per se, but the grammar was poor and I couldn't immediately find any sources backing it up, so I removed it. I'm trying to clean up the section right now, and will re-include it, as it seems logical to include both scientific and empirical evidence against sheltering under overpasses. However, I will be cutting some of the narrative for space and flow concerns, and since a lot of material is duplicated at Tornado myths. Your work and opinion is always appreciated, and I hope my edits are agreeable to the both of us. I welcome you to let me know if you have any other concerns about the article or my edits.-RunningOnBrains 03:09, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
- I did notice that at Tornado Myths - to be honest (another reason I'm not pressing the issues), I didn't notice that fact in the Tornado Myths article until after you mentioned it just now. I feel kinda dumb now. Word it the way you think best - I was working more on just cleaning up the article than on the actual content, and I hated to think that an important piece of information might have been left out. Thanks for the prompt response. Sleddog116 (talk) 03:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

material added to pi article
Hi. I've been working on pi for the past couple of months, getting it ready for FAC. I just found out there was an RfC/Merge proposal at the Tau article. Tau is a very fringe subject in math, and adding more than a single sentence about it in the pi article is a pretty big violation of UNDUE policy. I reverted the change to pi for that reason. Then I discovered you changed the tau article to a redirect. I dont think the pi Talk page was notified of the merge discussion, or I could have jumped in earlier. Would you mind un-doing the change; putting a merge notification in the pi Talk page; and putting a notification at the Math project; and then if consensus for merge happens, wait until after the FAC is over to take any action? Thanks. --Noleander (talk) 03:31, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

That page is Official page of American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina, so I want to change it because I work there. And I dont want to have that information about SUNY on my Official page on Misplaced Pages. If there is a price for it please tell me ? Im willing to pay, but I dont want to have that informations on AUBiH. If I need to deliver some docuents from court etc. tell me I will upload it and show everything to you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NewFace88 (talk • contribs) 21:21, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
- NewFace88, you seem to be a little confused about how wikipedia works. Misplaced Pages is not the private domain of Denis Prcic. It is a place where, like many universities -- perhaps not AUBiH, but most universities -- the free exchange of ideas is embraced as a way of creating an accurate and comprehensive view of a particular topic. Here, at wikipedia, all users are free to edit as long as they stay within the guidelines... guidelines established by wikipedia, not Denis Prcic. So quite frankly, what your boss is telling you is irrelevant as to whether an entry on an article is valid or not.
- If AUBiH wants to be a respectable institution of higher learning, it needs to act the part. Until then, information unbecoming a respectable institution, such as AUBiH's conduct with SUNY, will continue to arise and become public knowledge. The way to change things is not to repeatedly try to delete information on wikipedia, but to change the behavior at AUBiH. Fairview360 (talk) 13:38, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

WP:AIV
La Mujer Del Vendaval hasn't aired in Mexico at all (let alone USA), so "Coming Soon/TBA (aired)" & "first_aired: Coming Soon/TBA, last_aired: TBA" fall under "incorrect information". As a matter of fact, there is little info about this "upcoming" telenovela. The first & last aired parameters should only be used if an airdate exists, and the last aired parameter shouldn't have "present" until the network airs the first episode. The same applies for this edit which he was warned on April 25.
Regarding the El Talisman warning from April 12, I was referring to this edit; no explanation was given as to why it was removed. The April 14 warning for Abismo was for the insertion of a machine translated synopsis, which I reported weeks ago (edits were deleted) as it was considered a copyvio. The April 25 warning was for the unexplained removal of a page protection tag; guests can't edit that page due to excessive insertion of copyvio material that occurred this month. I hope this clears up confusion. Platinum Star (talk) 00:28, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

Close paraphrasing
Hi, thanks for looking at it and sorry about any confusion. The issue came up at DYK where User:Nikkimaria raised concerns about Khaled Ali (link to DYK discussion). Unfortunately, s/he noted that many if not most sentences bore some resemblance to the underlying sources. They were too closely paraphrased in her opinion. User:Dpmuk has been going through the list one by one and found fewer problems; so far he's done Kamal Abbas, Wael Khalil, and Death of Hamza Ali Al-Khateeb. Those are the longest articles I've written, so the bulk of the review is finished. I'm not sure how I can help accelerate the process, except note that I always provide references immediately after the sentences I write, so the proximate citation is exactly where to look for any close paraphrasing issues. Again, sorry for the time this is taking. Let me know if you need anything else. Ocaasi 22:52, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Also, not sure if you realized, but this is being reviewed at Copyright Problems, where I posted about it: Misplaced Pages:Copyright_problems/2012_March_28#28_March_2012. Ocaasi 22:58, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Just a quick reminder, when you're speedy deleting a page could you also check whether there are any redirects that need to be G8ed along with it? I had actually moved Dennis Noel from an incorrectly capitalized title just before tagging it as uncategorized, and you left the redirect untouched. the surviving and non-surviving walls of Walmart and not seeing the whole picture
I stand by my assertion that the the walls of Walmart were instantly destroyed and collapsed. Since I was there and you were not. I will explain why one picture doesn't soundly refute my assertion or does it support a correct synthesis or a factual original research conclusion. The picture from a website you are using as evidence is very misleading when using it for your own opposing conclusion. The picture at: http://mchenrycountyblog.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Joplin-Walmart.png only shows the one surviving section of a large supercenter. It doesn't show that the walls from around the rest of Walmart that were pushed over or destroyed by this tornado. Stcofire (talk) 15:29, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Responding to the deletion of an article
Hey , I noticed you deleted my article and said it looked like a step-by-step hacking instruction. I'm not sure if you know what a bukkit server is , but it DEFINITELY does not invovle hacking... You might think it's hacking just because it uses Terminal, but you only use Terminal to launch the server. I also was not done with the article. That code you saw in the article was not a hacking code, it was the code to launch the server.

AIV
IPs rarely ever respond to messages on their talk pages and making talk page sections just to discuss the fact that <br> should not be used in lists, or incessant cleanup template tagging across 40 pages is unhelpful, is a waste of time. Most of the time, these IPs are used by serial problem users and when IPs are dynamic it makes it difficult for things to be done. Perhaps I should not be reporting these particular problematic users to AIV, but other than that I go nowhere in cleaning up after them, particularly if their IP changes within an hour's time.—Ryulong (竜龙) 00:17, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Your input is requested
Hi, I noticed you have recently edited the Jerry Macaluso article. There has been an IP that has been constantly removing "promotional" information and adamantly wants the article deleted or merged. Could you please reply to their section on the talk page of the article, input from a more experienced editor will surely help. Thanks, GouramiWatcher 15:56, 24 May 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm a bit out of my league on the subject, but I know some theoretical discussions, at least historically, have allowed for photon spheres around neutron stars. I don't know the current state of understanding and I'm not about to make any changes to the article. It's only on my watchlist because I just linked frame-dragging and all articles I edit remain on my watchlist long enough to learn my stupidity.Novangelis (talk) 20:53, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

The problem with this anon. user is not a content dispute. The repeated addition of opinions and unsourced content, after having been reverted multiple times, and warned to cease and desist, is vandalism. This is precisely why he was blocked for 24 hours. Now, he returns from the block, and resumes making exactly the same edits, in exactly the same articles. There is no reason to think that anything less than blocking him will stop this. ---RepublicanJacobiteTheFortyFive 16:26, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Spam warning
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am so sorry and utterly mortified. My understanding was that, as the people featured in the entries in question play major roles in my biography of Ben Nicholson, mention of the book would be a useful addition to the articles. I will now endeavour to find the time to insert additional and useful information relevant to the entries in question. I had no idea I was a 'bookspammer', but now that I have read your guidelines I fully see your point. Thank you very much for your understanding. Lalagioconda (talk) 18:06, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

Tornado edits
Hey - I saw your most recent edit to Tornado (about waterspouts) and I found something I thought might help.
This came from the NOAA glossary: "The exact definition of waterspout is debatable. In most cases the term is reserved for small vortices over water that are not associated with storm-scale rotation (i.e., they are the water-based equivalent of landspouts). But there is sufficient justification for calling virtually any rotating column of air a waterspout if it is in contact with a water surface."
Hope that helps. Sleddog116 (talk) 16:50, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Image stitching
Regarding the originals, I will have to search for them. I thought this came out rather well since it was just a bunch of photoshop layers. The big problem is in the water, which does not merge well. If I had a fisheye lens that might solve the problem, one shot for the water, then the long lens for tiling (note the flags - quite windy that day). Shots were with a Cannon 75-300 zoom, fairly high zoom to get the detail, with the final image reduced to half size to reduce artifacts and file size. I can reshoot this pretty much any time I want to but it is a 20 mile drive and conditions are quite variable there. Also, I cannot see the bay from my locale. Perhaps pre-storm cirrus or clearing conditions after a storm would get a dramatic sky.
I have another series of the old SF BB eastern span, that looks absolutely awful up close. It was taken from a moving boat so I need to derotate and distort the original images for that first.
One problem with the stitcher that Canon provides is that it requires the meta-data to get the focal length, but if you first derotate, pre-distort, and color balance in Photoshop that info is lost.
What I'd like is a stitcher that allows the designation of continuous lines/curves across images that adjusts the images so that the (horizontal) line conforms to a destination line, with a number of such line sets, and vertical lines that could be snapped similarly. Also a way of adjusting color balance across images by specifying adjacent image match points with preferred destination color selection. Can the stitcher you mentioned handle that? I program so perhaps I could contribute a specification for that capability if not already present. (I program and could do this but am currently engaged in a huge single-handed development project.)

Vandalism on Tornados 2012 page
I noticed a vandalism warning on wikipedia when I was looking at it earlier. It was on a page that my tornado-fascinated 7 year old son checks daily...so I questioned him about it. He didn't tell me what he put on there, but I did figure out he didn't understand that his changes affected the whole planet.
I think he now understands not to edit wikipedia at all. I too have spent some time fixing vandalism here on wikipedia, as I love the site and want it to be as factual and well referenced as possible.
Please pass this message along to any others who were concerned, and feel free to have them notify me if it is noticed at this IP 98.223.242.247 again.
Do you know of any way to make the "edit" links unavailable under a user's login or something like that? That would help me control the situation as well.
Thank you,

Hello, I noticed that you put a speedy tag on the photo which I took of the Waldo Canyon Fire overlooking the Colorado Springs Air Force Academy. The speedy was removed as I took, and currently own the copyrights to the photo. I took the photo off of Interstate 25 next to the scenic overlook which shows the backdrop of the AFA and the football stadium. I then submitted to the respective facebook pages of www.krdo.com and www.kktv.com These were given full permission by me to use in whatever way they wanted to. They then put the picture on Coloradoconnection.com and later on yahoo! news. I can assure you though, the picture in question is of my own work. Keystoneridin (speak) 01:15, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Your "Witch hunt" claim
I am not on any "witch hunt" at all - I support admin-isters in any way I can. Your comment was imo close to a personal attack - I don't like poor administration - and you will always find me complaining about it if I see it - poor administration loses us valuable contributors. Can you please link to any witch hunt type of comments I made in that discussion and tell me who and why you think I am witch hunting and give me some feedback as to how I could have discussed better in that report - thanks - Youreallycan 16:25, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
- To be fair, getting all worked up and obsessing over something until you beat it into the ground is kind of your standard way of handling things, YRC.
- I'm not familiar with this current discussion, although YRC, you certainly seem to be commenting more than anyone else about matters that already seem settled. I'm just pointing out that hunting down what you consider to be "injustice", and continuing to beat a situation into the ground seems to be something you're still having a lot of trouble with. No harm meant, just an observation. NobleDarkling (talk) 20:08, 29 June 2012 (UTC)
