This editor acknowledges COI with respect to this article as a devotee of Michael Roach -- see e.g. his user page. The difficulty however is that acknowledging the COI has not led to any restraint on his part in editing the article, sometimes aggressively. This Conflict of interest/Noticeboard (COIN) page is for determining whether a specific editor has a conflict of interest (COI) for a specific article and whether an edit by a COIN-declared COI editor meets a requirement of the Conflict of Interest guideline. A conflict of interest may occur when an editor has a close personal or business connection with article topics. Post here if you are concerned that an editor has a COI, and is using Misplaced Pages to promote their own interests at the expense of neutrality. For content disputes, try proposing changes at the article talk page first and otherwise follow the Misplaced Pages:Dispute resolution procedural policy.
You must notify any editor who is the subject of a discussion. You may use {{subst:coin-notice}} ~~~~ to do so.

    Additional notes:
    • This page should only be used when ordinary talk page discussion has been attempted and failed to resolve the issue, such as when an editor has repeatedly added problematic material over an extended period.
    • Do not post personal information about other editors here without their permission. Non-public evidence of a conflict of interest can be emailed to paid-en-wp@wikipedia.org for review by a functionary. If in doubt, you can contact an individual functionary or the Arbitration Committee privately for advice.
    • The COI guideline does not absolutely prohibit people with a connection to a subject from editing articles on that subject. Editors who have such a connection can still comply with the COI guideline by discussing proposed article changes first, or by making uncontroversial edits. COI allegations should not be used as a "trump card" in disputes over article content. However, paid editing without disclosure is prohibited. Consider using the template series {{Uw-paid1}} through {{Uw-paid4}}.
    • Your report or advice request regarding COI incidents should include diff links and focus on one or more items in the COI guideline. In response, COIN may determine whether a specific editor has a COI for a specific article. There are three possible outcomes to your COIN request:
    1. COIN consensus determines that an editor has a COI for a specific article. In response, the relevant article talk pages may be tagged with {{Connected contributor}}, the article page may be tagged with {{COI}}, and/or the user may be warned via {{subst:uw-coi|Article}}.
    2. COIN consensus determines that an editor does not have a COI for a specific article. In response, editors should refrain from further accusing that editor of having a conflict of interest. Feel free to repost at COIN if additional COI evidence comes to light that was not previously addressed.
    3. There is no COIN consensus. Here, Lowercase sigmabot III will automatically archive the thread when it is older than 14 days.
    • Once COIN declares that an editor has a COI for a specific article, COIN (or a variety of other noticeboards) may be used to determine whether an edit by a COIN-declared COI editor meets a requirement of the Misplaced Pages:Conflict of interest guideline.

Appears to be promotional material masquerading as a series of articles with some suspicious removal of material and amendments — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mighty Antar (talkcontribs) 21:47, 1 May 20 (UTC)

    Darrell Issa

I have been trying to include some material into the article by Rep. Issa. One user seems to be a guard against including negative material. I started to take a look at the edit history and he seems to be acting as almost a guard for Rep. Issa to stop any negative material. Also, I found this interesting:

" noted that after Christmas his Misplaced Pages page was rewritten to highlight many of the old controversies. “Fixing Misplaced Pages is a full-time thing when you’ve got people hacking it, or editing it, in a rather slanted way.” He added that in most areas of knowledge Misplaced Pages works well."Lizza, Ryan. "DON'T LOOK BACK". The New Yorker. {{cite web}}: |access-date= requires |url= (help); Missing or empty |url= (help) (Computer crashing URL link removed from cite. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 15:11, 2 July 2012 (UTC))

I am not sure if Bbb23 is trying to slant the article to be positive for Issa. However, his edit history makes me wonder if he is bring a COI to this article. Casprings (talk) 00:25, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

See BLPN discussion. Casprings has a problem because I don't agree with him. Indeed, no one thus far agrees with him.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:22, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm a BLP volunteer and I've commented on the BLP thread linked above. As far as COIN, this thread should be closed. This is an improper forum for a dispute that properly belongs at BLPN: Bbb23 has never stated an affiliation with or conflict in regards to Darrell Issa; Casprings hasn't even alleged an actual conflict of interest or anything coming close. He is complaining about editing history, from which he would extrapolate a bias. A bias is not a conflict of interest, nor is a bias indicated by simply removing questionable negative material per WP:BLP. To cry COI is demonstrable of a need to re-read WP:AGF and WP:COI for that matter. JFHJr () 02:03, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Casprings, why did you omit the '|date= January 24, 2011' publication date from your cite to the above quote from Rep. Issa? -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 15:17, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Obviously a lack of temporal context adds flavors of relevance and alarm. Putting the quote beside the accusation is meant to prod readers into identifying a particular editor with undated statements: this is at best disingenuous. There's no actual relevance between that year-and-a-half-old quote and what's going on at the article — nobody anywhere agrees with Caspring's proposed edits. Most importantly, there's been no allegation of an actual WP:COI, or any association or relation that might raise any sort of reasonable question. Please, someone, mark this closed. JFHJr () 18:54, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
    • Comment HUH? What COI? Seems that you are complaining that Bbb23 brings a POV to his editing, which may be true or may not. You are editing with a clear POV, and this is being balanced, which may mean someone with a POV or someone wanting to eliminate POV. COI implies you know who and why an editor is and that the style of editing belies an inappropriate commercial or personal interest (ie works on the campaign, is employed by the campaign, knows the individual personally) ; there is no evidence of that. --209.6.69.227 (talk) 02:02, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

    Tim Michels

Wikimichels has been making a large number of edits to the Tim Michels article. This includes reverting other editors' neutral edits and additions. As Michels is a politician, and a potential candidate for office, this is a serious concern. Wikimichels has twice been warned about conflicts of interest, by two different editors, the first time over a year ago. Perhaps a cooling off period is in order. Melodic (Musician)

I have been compiling information on how to build this article as well as to try and make it better than when I first created it for Melodic. I do not know him personally, and I am not in contact with him, and this is my first page I have ever created. I'm simply trying to do everything in the guidelines, but I keep messing up I have been editing it from the same computer logged in and logged out. I actually didn't know I was logged out at first because it still let me edit. When there seemed to be a problem I checked and saw that I wasn't logged in, so then I logged in and continued to contribute to the page. I am making no more contributions because I wouldn't want the article to be deleted. Please understand this is my first article. 68.82.183.35 (talk) 23:00, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Editting without logging isn't a problem as long as you are not pretending to be different people.
The page is being proposed for deletion because there is some doubt as to whether Melodic is sufficiently notable. There are a lot of musicians who would like a page on Misplaced Pages so we are careful to limit it to musicians who are notable. Read the deletion banner on the page and check out the links to see what we mean by 'notable'.
Editting a page where you have a conflict of interest and your edits may be deleted. In this case, where the only page you have ever editted is about this musician, it looks a bit like someone writing their own page, especially as it has info that someone who doesn't know him probably wouldn't know. That's why we thought you might be Melodic himself.
If the page gets deleted then maybe Melodic isn't ready for his own Misplaced Pages page. Leave it for a bit and edit some other pages. You can always recreate the page for Melodic when he ticks some more of the notability boxes. filceolaire (talk) 22:05, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

    National Youth Music Theatre

Long term ownership of the article, from an account professing to be the theatre's producer. As a result the article has long been an intermittently sourced promotional piece, with passages taken directly from its website. I've done some cleanup, but there's strong pushback from this account, with a clear sense of WP:OWNERSHIP; not surprising, given that they've edited the article virtually unchecked for several years. I've attempted to explain the concerns at user's and article talk page. A good copy editing to ascertain and remove further copyright problems would be appreciated. 99.11.4.60 (talk) 01:30, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

    João Gilberto

Gil Lopes is the principle of www.showbras.com.br. He is claiming (quite likely correctly) that João Gilberto has been under showbras's representation (or something like that) for a quarter century. While this may be true, Mr. Lopes hasn't provided any WP:RS about this, and I'm having trouble getting him to understand why we need more that just his say-so along with pages on his website. Could I have a hand with this please? --jpgordon 20:42, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

I'll say more about what is happening. For 25 years my company Showbras, cared for the management of the artist Joao Gilberto. This is public knowledge, we were quoted by major newspapers, trade worldwide and signed all the albums recorded by the artist during this period, as producer or executive producer. In the data sheet of the disks is referred to management. In addition to posters of important presentations are published on the company website. The site of the artist, the artist's most complete site with bio, photos and press material, including major newspapers published the world's environment is Showbras, for obvious reasons. I presume that before all this would be natural that the information in the Encyclopedia of the artist could use as a reference we have. I could not take pictures and publish contracts on Misplaced Pages, I can do is bring the information to cite a source here and the site of the artist, the most complete site, repeat. I do not suppose there is a conflict of interest in being myself the owner of Showbras simply because Showbras is a company with more than 30 years and several important Brazilian artists in its cast as it is easy to check the website of ShowBras. What I present is the reference site of Joao Gilberto, not the site of Showbras.

Anyway, until this is understood, I did not tell the Showbras or me in the article. --Gil Lopes (talk) 02:26, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Then how do I do? I have to sell Showbras that my contributions are allowed on Joao Gilberto? Should I ask someone I know to go on Misplaced Pages and write the truth? My testimony to the Misplaced Pages is censored by the fact that I have participated in the story? My company is perceived as being my own person and therefore can not be cited as actually accomplished? I think the rules are being read and interpreted the wrong way . And please, i would like you consider your own rules: "Editing in an area in which you have professional or academic expertise is not, in itself, a conflict of interest. Using material you yourself have written or published is allowed within reason, but only if it is relevant and conforms to the content policies, particularly WP:SELFPUB. Excessive self-citation is strongly discouraged. When in doubt, defer to the community's opinion. In any case, citations should be in the third person and should not place undue emphasis on your work, giving proper due to the work of others as in a review article". That is it! We are talking about exactly these, so...--Gil Lopes (talk) 15:33, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Gil; Bem vindo. I don't write Portugese well but I can read it and I had a look at the Showbras site and at your user page on pt.wikipedia and I see that the Conflict of Interest rules and guidelines have been discussed there at length. I assure you that the rules here on en.WP are just as strict. This is not because we think you are lieing. On the contrary, as the agent for these great artists you know more about them than anyone here, however your job is to act for them, to support them, to make them look good. Over the years we have found that people in your position have great difficulty in writing from a neutral point of view and so we ask you to present your information on the Talk page for other users to consider and add to the topic page.
You have already done the most important thing - you have created a page for Joao Gilberto on your own site. His WP page already references this as his official web page. If there is something you want to add to the WP page make sure it is covered on his official page on your site first then drop a note on his WP talk page telling us there is some new info there and what it is. You could even mark the page on your site as licensed under CC-BY-SA so we have the right to copy stuff verbatim if we want to, without having to rewrite it in our own words. If you don't get a response on the talk page then after a few days create a new item here on the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard (WP:COIN in wikispeak) and that should bring someone to check it out.
A note on your site is useful to verify basic facts - what year records were issued and how you spell their titles etc. For bigger claims - like his invention of bossa nova - or for stuff about showbras itself we will be asking for independent sources.
Another thing you can do is put more information about yourself on your own user page. Tell people who you work for, list the artists you represent. Don't make it an advertisement for your company but a useful reference page so people know to come and ask questions. If you have references to portugese language sources and other editors have problems with them then feel free to contact me on my user_talk page and I'll see if I can help. It might take me a few days to get back to you though - I've been busy lately. Hope this helps filceolaire (talk) 20:58, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Looking for a Wikipedian who wants to create an article on myself

I am trying to find a fair Wikipedian to create an article on myself by using my publications in my user ID: PLee223 . Please talk to me if there is Wikipedian who wants to help me out. Thank you! Plee223 (talk) 07:23, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Plee. Thank you for coming here to ask for help. There are a few issues that will need to be addressed. Most importantly, one needs to be "notable" to be included in the encyclopedia. "Notable" is defined a little differently on Misplaced Pages than it is in Webster's, Oxford, etc. and the definition can be found here. Secondly, much of the information found in a biography of a living person much come from independent source but you can find more information on that here. Lastly, if a user helps you, they'll need to do so from their own account and the content they create will still need to satisfy all Misplaced Pages policies and guidelines. I'm not suggesting that you wish to promote yourself or do anything but create an encyclopedic article but it can sometimes be hard to write an article or help write an article about yourself that doesn't show some point of view. WP:COI is our guideline regarding conflicts of interest and covers this concept thoroughly although it's based on the basic concept of a conflict of interest.
Based on your edits at AfC, I'm assuming that you're Paul Lee. I see that you have links to lists of books/poems you have written but the pages are in Korean and in forms that can't be translated by Google Translate. I did my own search on Amazon.com but can find none of your publications (only Paul Lee the comic book writer). I also see that you write your OhmyNews which is a website that publishes articles written by anyone who submits an article. Being published by OhmyNews on its own would not make you notable. Your publications are most likely the only way that notability can be established and I can't assess that. You can help by providing a list of the most widely distributed or most notable books that you've written as well as the company that published those books. From there, we can assess notability and determine if an article should be created or not. OlYeller21 16:49, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
Also try to provide any independent secondary sources which mention you detail. IRWolfie- (talk) 17:02, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
    • Hi 01Yeller21 & IRWolfie, thank you for your help. I am trying more and more to make my bio-article come true praying "Help me, God!" Thank you again... your talks are very helpful! I will let you know when I have notable sources on my publications such as reviews, publishing companies and book stores. By the way, if I provide you Korean sources, can you read and search them for verification? I have some Korean sources on my publications. Please advise me... Plee223 (talk) 20:40, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
    • I would like to help you out, but I'm seeing a few troubles with your request. First, your name Paul Lee is sooo common that I (or anyone) would not be able to search a news database to find source material for the article. A second problem I'm seeing (from your talk page) is that you also go by Poong Ho Lee, making it harder to find reliable sources on you. You would have to be able to supply the reliable source material from which the article would be developed. Those supplied sources would have to be independent of you (not connected to you in any way) per WP:GNG. Third, you appear to be looking for someone to write a Publications of Paul Lee article instead of a Paul Lee (author) biography article. Misplaced Pages only has a few "Publications of" articles and those appear to be redirects to biography articles. A fourth problem I'm seeing is that the sources you want to supply are in Korean. We could try to use Bing translator, but the output sometimes isn't so clear. You might want to get your biography article developed on Korean Misplaced Pages first and then have that foreign-language Misplaced Pages article translation into English at Misplaced Pages:Translation. There's something at Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Paul Lee (author, poet, engineer), but you might be better off drafting the article at User:Plee223/Paul Lee (author). -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 10:03, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

    YSR Congress Party

This is a major splinter party in one of India's largest states. The leader is Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, a guy known to his fanbase as "Jagan"; and the editor has a name which pretty much predicts the kind of edits he/she is making, on this and related articles. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:27, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Duplicate on website marketing 1,750.00$ trumpets

I initially saw Mitzvah to kohanim to sound silver trumpets and started trying to improve the article adding copy and refs (which I have now removed), and initiating a RM to a WP:COMMONNAME, but then a duplicate of the article on a private website http://kehuna.org/silver-trumpets/ with accompanying advert appeared:http://kehuna.org/trumpet-order-page/ "The price of the trumpet is 1,750.00$ (subject to change), and requires 2 weeks for delivery (US orders)." etc. ...

A COI is not itself a suitable argument for deletion. AfD is used to determine if an article should be deleted because the article doesn't comply with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Issues that result from a COI can certainly be cause for concern but usually other policies are guidelines would be used to delete an article (namely WP:N for WP:A7, WP:ADVERT or maybe WP:NPOV for WP:G11, and WP:COPYVIO for WP:G12).
In this case, the article appears to be a copyright violation and qualifies for WP:G12 speedy deletion as it's a copy of this article posted 15 days before the WP article was created. I have marked it for G12 deletion. We'll see what happens but in any case, the article should be watchlisted and the editor informed of our relevant policies and guidelines (I'll do both). OlYeller21 02:35, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
On a side note, if you notice that text is taken directly from another website as you did in this case, please either mark the text for deletion or let someone know so that it doesn't slip through the cracks. You can always report it Misplaced Pages:Copyright problems or I can help if you're not sure. OlYeller21 02:43, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

    SolveIT_Software

User Trident13 is the creator and primary editor of the SolveIT page. He also heavily edited and flagged with a COI the Quintiq page - Quintiq is SolveIT's direct competitor in APAC. I have requested clarification on whether Trident13 and Michael.Davies have a conflict of interest in their involvement in the Quintiq and SolveIT pages - Michael.Davies is also the name of a senior employee of SolveIT, as is Imran.Sarwar. Imagini

I discovered this article (as I often find potential COI issues) at the copyright problems board. The copyright issues I detected have been removed and revdeleted, but I noticed what looks like an awful lot of puffery (one issue corrected; one noted at the talk page: http://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Imagini). I'm trying to knock out some of the nearly 40 day backlog at CP and don't have time to look. I know that no one here may want to take this up, but just in case I thought I'd drop it off. :) It could use an experienced eye! --Moonriddengirl 14:08, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

    Michael Roach

This editor acknowledges COI with respect to this article as a devotee of Michael Roach -- see e.g. his user page. The difficulty however is that acknowledging the COI has not led to any restraint on his part in editing the article, sometimes aggressively. That's one element of the behavioral aspect of things that I'd like assistance with; another is his habit of describing me as "not neutral" (because I don't agree with the way he wants to edit the article) -- examples here. FTR, I do not have a COi w/rt Roach -- I had never heard of him before the article was brought up on BLPN a couple of months ago. Given the mode in which this article is being edited, one would think that the COI guideline doesn't exist at all. Nomoskedasticity (talk) 06:18, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
