my first one, yay. maybe one of these days i could be an administrator, although i am not quite sure how others would view my contribs... Thebestofall007 (talk)

It takes a lot of work and at least a year here. You then go through a process known as an RFA, where people vote if they think you are qualified to become one. I am having mine soon, hopefully. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:54, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Sesame

Two things:

  1. If you request stiki for him they might grant it.
  2. Why does he have so many talk page edits???

Dan653 (talk) 17:56, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

I don't know. Achowat approved him, not me. I just took him. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:13, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Didn't know whether to answer this on my own talk page or here, but the reason I have so many talk page edits is because I recently took part in the India Tag & Assess 2012 project and ended up assessing over 2000 of a total of 118,000 articles in 2 months (and got myself a Silver wiki award in the process:-)My edit count breakup does look a bit lopsided now, I guess Sesamevoila (talk) 17:05, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, just curious, and good job! I forgot that tags were on talk pages, even though I like to do the same myself. Silly me :P Dan653 (talk) 19:33, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

My article Ying Zhu now has links to other articles and links from other articles

Is there a process for removing the comments on the article that it has no links? thanks Alh95014 (talk) 19:23, 4 July 2012 (UTC) ALH95014

Yes, just remove the tags. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:12, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Help out on CVUA

If you're needing any resources for CVUA, I just want to throw my name in the ring as an eventual mentor. I'm a fairly new graduate of the academy myself, but vandalism is one of the things I'm passionate about. I'm also an instructional designer by profession, so if there's some desire to formalize the "training" aspect of the academy, I'd be very interested in helping out. Just let me know if you have a need for me. Vertium (talk to me) 20:28, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

We'd love to have you, but we require at least 1,000 edits, and you currently have about 800. Please come back to me in a few hours when you get about 200 more and we'll add you to the instructors page and hopefully get you a student. Best, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:41, 4 July 2012 (UTC).
Hi, I'm over 1,000 edits now (though with RepLag, it may not show it in the auto-generated statistics). Let me know how to best proceed. I currently use Twinkle, and am exploring STiki. I'll be working with Huggle too, once it's available for OS X, which I believe will be late this year or early next. Thanks! Vertium and done 20:55, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Add yourself to the status page and I would reccomend under the tool use section to just put down Twinkle, until you feel comfortable with Stiki, and Huggle comes out on OS X. Cheers Dan653 (talk) 20:58, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Dan, but I'm in the middle of a conversation with User:Electriccatfish2. I'll exercise the prerogative to wait for a response from the person to whom I addressed my communication. Cheers. Vertium and done 23:02, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Hi! I'm sorry, I did not see your reply because it is at the top of my talk page. Thank you for being so polite! Please add yourself to the status page. We'd love to have you on board! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 23:04, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
No worries, and I know Dan was only being helpful, I just wanted to respect the fact that you and I had already talked about it. I'll add myself to the status page now. Many thanks for your help. Vertium and done 23:08, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Warning?

I've got warned for "disruptive editting" for some reason, but I have never edited a Misplaced Pages page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.85.16.69 (talk) 19:04, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) I removed it, because you do not have an edit history, especially a disruptive one. Dan653 (talk) 19:36, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Reaver (Firefly) (2nd nomination) close

Hi there. I saw you just closed that AfD, but I didn't think those circumstances were the kind under which a NAC could occur, since there were two outstanding delete !votes. I agree with keeping, obviously, but I just thought your close could be problematic, and was wondering what your line of thinking on it was. Thanks. Torchiest edits 00:45, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Yes. I thought about it for a while, but I have seen other NAC's on on AFD's with over 3 delete votes. I felt that the consensus was reached to keep it, so I made the NAC. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 00:47, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Also, the only delete vote was just a speculation and another user commented on it, and the !voter never responded. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 00:49, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
I undid your speedy close. You can't do that. Even though its an obvious keep, you have the nominator and one other person still saying delete, so you have to keep it open. Dream Focus 00:59, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
But I have voted delete along with several other voters at other AFD's, and the AFDs were speedy closed. Also, the nominator's rationale was proved wrong by the other voters and the only delete vote was just a speculation and was again disproved by another voter. I'm not going to undo it, but please re-consider the close. Thank you, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 01:17, 6 July 2012 (UTC).
Maybe the speedy closes you've seen were done by admins? Anyway, I don't think it's really that big of a deal either way. It seems like a clear keep is coming, but there's no hurry to close it. Torchiest edits 01:20, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
No, they were all NAC's. I'll watchlist it and come back in a few days and we'll take it from there. If no more delete votes have been made and the only user who voted delete has not responded to the comment yet, than I'll close it as keep. Best, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 01:24, 6 July 2012 (UTC).
You need to provide links to these AFDs. If something was done improperly, report it, don't mimic it. Dream Focus 10:15, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

In the future

Please WP:Assume clue. I pointed out that he was a socking troll, and provided evidence even though it was beyond clear comparing the two IPs contributions. The latter IP placed a blocked template on my talk page. Warning him is only feeding a troll and absolutely useless. I can understand that an IP we might be able to believe is a new user who made a mistake needs to be warned beyond all reasonable doubt, but there was no reasonable doubt that 174.232.66.149 was 174.231.129.76 continuing to troll. I appreciate your work as a clerk, but please don't automatically treat a report without warnings as a case of WP:BITE. Ian.thomson (talk) 22:09, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

I didn't think that you were biting him. I clerk at AIV and currently, I'm not an admin. My job is to point out things that may be problematic in a  Clerk note:. I tried to give him a regular sockpuppetry notice, but it includes a link to the socking investigation, so I used the AGF one instead. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:12, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Electriccatfish, I worked with you about a month or so ago regarding rollback rights, CSD, and a couple of other things on here. I believe you would set a great example for an admin. If I were to nominate you, would you accept? Thanks!Keystoneridin (speak) 18:07, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

AIV request

Hi Electriccatfish2 - I see on your talk page and on AIV that you have self appointed yourself as a "clerk" for AIV. Although I admire your enthusiasm and desire to help out, I believe that the idea of traditional clearking of the page is counter-intuitive and actually bogs down the process. The page serves a very specific purpose which is to act as a venue for editors to report clear vandalism and spam for administrator review in as clear and quick a format as possible. Adding traditional clerk icons and "endorsement" comments does nothing to improve or speed up the process. Would you mind terribly reconsidering the role you are playing there? --Jezebel'sPonyo 18:09, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Actually, I first saw NTox doing it. I then asked Tide rolls, who told me that there was no official position and I could do it if I wanted to. I'm supposed to identify problems in the report, such as that the user has not been warned sufficiently, the user has stopped vandalizing. You're right that the  Clerk endorsed templates mess up the page, so I won't use them anymore, but Tide rolls told me it's fine. Also, the bot often doesn't remove blocked users quickly. Your thoughts? Electriccatfish2 (talk) 18:13, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Non-admins are of course allowed to provide input on the page (especially if they have unique knowledge of the specific case in question), but any admin who responds to the AIV report will need to fully review the history of the reported user or IP regardless of your comments there. It's simply redundant for you to check each report and comment when the responding admin will need to do the same background checking. There are many venues where your time and effort would be (and are) much more valuable. Jezebel'sPonyo 18:25, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! First of all, I have made over 100 reports there of my own. You're right, it's redundant to add in some comments, but if I am involved about a specific case, I'll make a comment. Also, I'll remove blocked users, as that benefits the admins there, as they don't have to wait for the bot to remove the report. I also comment at WP: AN/I. Do you agree? Thanks, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 18:28, 8 July 2012 (UTC).
The bot generally removes blocked users immediately (unless it's down), it's only declined requests that require manual removal. ANI is a different beast altogether, I have no advice regarding editing there. Good luck! Jezebel'sPonyo 19:18, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Userrights

Moved to Misplaced Pages talk:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy – Per Dan's request. Theopolisme TALK 22:02, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Why do we need to know them on the the status page??? Dan653 (talk) 20:54, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

So that students will know their instructor's qualifications. Some may prefer an admin, and some will prefer a content creator as an instructor to help them out with content creation after they graduate (I had Hahc21 do that for me). Electriccatfish2 (talk) 21:44, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, no consensus needed, but I'm just curious to know what other instructors think. Dan653 (talk) 21:57, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Fine. Also, it will be the instructor's responsibility to update their user rights. Riley requested reviewer at WP: PERM, so if he gets it, he'll have to update that, and when my RfA hopefully passes in January, I'll update that. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 21:59, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

What's AFTv5?

And what do you mean by feedback? Do you mean an edit summary, an email, a message on your talk page, a message on an article talk page....? Can you link me to this feedback? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 21:23, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Replied on your talk page. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 21:41, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I have two questions:
  • Are these ratings the ones I've seen at the bottom of articles?
  • Can you link me to the rating/feedback in question that contains the objectionable language? Nightscream (talk) 00:48, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
You may have seen them at the bottom of articles. They start off with "Was this article helpful to you?" and have Yes and No boxes. Also, I don't have specific feedbacks. There are many feedbacks with curse words, often lurking at Special: Articlefeedbackv5. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 01:36, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Everloop AfC

It may have been a bit premature to move the submission to the mainspace. I'd say that there are still issues with the article in terms of the tone (advertising). -Cntras (talk) 05:59, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

You're right. I usually only send about 10% of the AFC submissions that I review to mainspace, and this was my first issue. I tagged it for advert and will try to fix it. Thanks, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 10:36, 9 July 2012 (UTC).
It may need to be completely rewritten though. -Cntras (talk) 11:45, 9 July 2012 (UTC)
Yikes! I'll try to work on the basic context to make it less adverty. It passes WP: GNG, though, as I have seen it being featured in many major newspapers. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:05, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Permission participation

Hi Electriccatfish2, I noticed this comment from you on a recent permissions request. While I don't want to discourage you from commenting there, I would like to point out that "endorsement" comments are not recommended for two reasons: 1. they are not helpful for admins who review and approve/decline the requests (no admin will skip making their own review just because someone endorsed; also, a comment such as "looks good to me", something similar to that, or the agreement of that type of comment don't give any insight into why someone should receive a particular userright), and 2. a request for rollback, reviewer, etc. is not a request for adminship, therefore "votes" to support/oppose people are counter-productive and risk turning requests into "mini-RfAs". Also see this thread, which covers much of what I'm talking about, and this comment from me recently.

This all being said, if you find a reason why a user shouldn't receive a particular userright, such as bad reverts for someone requesting rollback or the creation of unsourced pages for someone requesting autopatrolled, that sort of input is definitely welcomed and very helpful, but if there's nothing wrong with a request, nothing needs to be said! :) I hope this wasn't harsh...it's not meant to be a warning, just a note! Thanks for your help and interest in the area. Best. Acalamari 10:09, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
