::Gandydancer is not the one who reverted you. I am. You keep talking about "discussion on the talk page" as if there is ] for your mass changes; there isn't. There's mostly you ranting on the talk page. And I had already checked it before reverting you. Your editing has indeed made the article worse -- it's a citation-needed tag mess, for example. Adding a lot of cn tags instead of one big tag telling readers that the section is unsourced or needs additional sources is ludicrous! You also need to read up on what ] is. Reverting you, restoring the article to the ] version is not vandalism.

Clarification

Just to avoid any misunderstanding, I deleted the consideration for deletion; the page has already been deleted and there is no requirement to discuss whether it should get deleted or not. In the future, I will provide an explanation if I do this, so thank you for alerting me. For your information, I created that page and wished to delete it, because the issue was not relevant anymore.

Thanks.

editing on a page you messaged me about

I have documented proof that what I edited was approved by a court of law. The persons page I was editing continuously lies about a relationship that never happened for the purpose of reckless attachment. Its all a media ploy. Zero factual evidence supporting her claim. So, moving forward, as she adds her lies for the media, I have the right to delete them. Also, there is no difference between her posting fake marriage information that NEVER happened, and the links of bad press describing her personal life character of being a snake and media whore. Slander is not something taking lightly on the internet in 2012, almost 2013 and she is 100% slanderous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.112.64.32 (talkcontribs)

Joanna Clapps Herman

Hi Jim. I created a Wiki article for Joanna Clapps Herman back in July. It was deleted because she was deemed not notable. Can you give me some advice as to how I can try again? Thanks so much! Srdemuro (talk) -Sam

Balija

There are a lot of wrong quotations on the article Balija, which is a major Telugu speaking Hindu caste. Books written by authors belonging to other castes, other religions sometimes would be insulting to Balija caste. So when I removed some quotations, lines on Balija caste page, there was a reason since these references were derogative to my Balija caste / community. For a Hindu more then religion, the Caste to which one belongs is more important since the caste/community tag adds prestige. Please kindly understand our sensitivities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.178.250.71 (talkcontribs)

About the ancestry of people, the additions that I made to those people were alerady listed in their official Misplaced Pages biographies. I thought that those listings were source enough for that particular article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.133.80.28 (talk) 20:59, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Looking at Donnie Wahlberg, you added "Paternal grandmother is of English descent". here The Wiki page does not mention grandmother, though it does mention English. The ancestry record mention Irish, French, and Canadian, but not English. Looks like Misplaced Pages is not a reliable source! Where did you find that one grandmother was of English descent?
Elijah Wood - Father is of English descent: you changed "Of partial" to "Father is of " (English descent). diff Wood's father's anscestry is not mentioned in Elijah Wood.
Please do try to verify your information before you make changes. Happy Thanksgiving to you to! Jim1138 (talk) 21:38, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Citation in 'Bureaucracy'

Hi, I am Burham. The following is originally the fragment of my edition which you removed on 14th November. It was citation from Concise Encyclopedia it is a fragment at the end of Merriam-Webster definitions. I found however more direct one. Finally it would be:

Robert K. Merton emphasized its red tape and inefficiency due to blind conformity to procedures. More recent theories have stressed the role of managerial cliques, occupational interest groups, or individual power-seekers in creating politicized organizations characterized by internal conflict. #5 i.e. http://www.merriam-webster.com/concise/bureaucracy

Let me know if you see something wrong with it. --Burham (talk) 02:23, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

I presume you are referring to bureaucracy as a form of government. I don't see any reference to "government" in the Webster reference. If you are trying to find a reference to list bureaucracy as a form of government, can you find it in a more formal source than a dictionary? Maybe the CIA: cia.gov? November 2012

Your recent editing history at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion/Log/2012 November 21 shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Stuartyeates (talk) 02:43, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Refactoring other's talk in talk pages is considered vandalism and is not limited by 3RR. See Misplaced Pages:Vandalism#Talk_page_vandalism Please note the edit summaries that I left on my reverts. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 03:04, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Alicia Keys

The article clearly states that she identifies as being multi-racial, not specifically as African American. This was explained by Xela in editing. To treat these edits as if they are unexplained is just not logical. Your approach here seems to be driven by a desire to have fewer people edit wikipedia, bu driving people off by aggresive responses to their actions. I think this has been a high handed approach, especially when the article itself states the person involved openly identifies as being multi-racial, thus of African-American descent but not being specifically African-American. Your approach seems to be to quick to threaten blocks, and too unwilling to let people explain themselves. The edit was explained, so to remove it as "unexplained" is uncalled for.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:25, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Xvons's latest edit

I see you deleted his latest comments, then thought better of it and put it back. What I did was strikethrough his second vote; that seems to be what people do when someone has voted twice. I left the rest of the comment entirely intact, and explained below why I did what I did. Dude needs to cool down a notch; he seems to think because I want to axe this category (really more for its nomenclature than its usage), I'm going around burning crosses in front lawns. I think my point on Talk:Alicia Keys illustrates how to deal with the biracial issue pbp 04:48, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

homopolar motor edit was legit

My edits to homopolar motor were actually legit, believe it or not! It will take me a day or two to dig up the cite, as I have it in my file at work (I am a civil rights atty). Any chance you consider letting it stand for a few days with a citation needed tag until i can get to the office on Monday? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.133.160.189 (talk) 07:01, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, but we cannot do that. Thinks about it for a moment; when you read something in a Misplaced Pages article, do you expect it to be backed up by a reliable source (See WP:V) or do you expect it to be backed up by "Some random person editing Misplaced Pages under an alias said it was OK"?
Furthermore, even if you later come up with a citation, it is likely that your edit will be reverted again if you use that wording. Do you have a citation to a reliable source that shows that "the general ignorance of Texas law enforcement officers" is an established fact, or do you just want to insert your editorial opinion into Misplaced Pages? How about "considered to be illegal in the state of Texas before the advent of Lawrence v. Texas"? Do you have a citation to a ruling where a Texas court ruled that possessing a homopolar motor violated Texas's anti-sodomy statute? How about "they were erroneously believed to be a variety of homoerotic sextoy"? Do you have a citation saying that any police department in Texas made such a decision, or is your citation the opinion of one or two individual officers? Did the department back them up? Did the prosecutor?
If properly cited, your story might be a good addition to the article, but it would have to be written in a neutral, encyclopedic tone, and it would have to stick to the facts. Something like this: "In an incident in an officer of arrested . Prosecutors |declined to charge him] and he was . The "screw a homo pole" is allowable if you can establish that it was widely reported in legitimate news outlets.
I am not trying to give you a hard time here. I hope that you will stick around and become a regular contributor (I could certainly use some help at Plummer v. State), but you will have to learn a bit more about our quality standards. --Guy Macon (talk) 11:46, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Deletion / redirect

Hi Jim. Thanks for your message. - I do understand the general rules concerning deletion, yet this seems to be a somewhat different case. I deleted the redirect from a page, that is from a page that had no contents in the first place; and because there is no good reason for redirecting The Ebonys to a page about two guys who composed one of their songs. So, I'm not quite sure about what the correct procedure should be in such cases (as there was no actual content in the first place). - Thanks for any kind of feedback on this. Cheers --Albrecht Conz (talk) 07:37, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

A redirect page should be deleted rather than blanked. The simplest method per Misplaced Pages:Criteria for speedy deletion perhaps you could have it deleted with a {{db-misnomer}} (at the top of the page, leaving the redirect as the second line). Otherwise, you would need to use Misplaced Pages:Redirects for discussion. Try the first, and if it is rejected, the second. Good luck Jim1138 (talk) 07:52, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice! - Tried that now. --Albrecht Conz (talk) 07:56, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

HAY Jim! You have recently reverted 2 External links without seeing their contents. I think both of these external links were useful and more constructive for this article. I hope you would review it. Thanks 14.98.228.136 (talk) 09:04, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

There is nothing on that geolysis article except a very brief description of Tilokpur. That geolysis' source is not apparent, so the reliability of the page is suspect. The other link added is just a duplication of the reference . Surly you can find a more suitable reference for that page? Something that would do Tilokpur proud? Hi Jim!

Thanks for showing me how to send you a message. It's all rather strange to the new-comer, isn't it? You probably wouldn't know - by the looks of it you are very adept at navigating around Misplaced Pages (and very fast, too!). I think it only took you four and a half minutes to rush over to Louie's page and tear up my hard work. Well done! Is it fun being the Misplaced Pages Police? My son wants to be a policeman when he grows up, perhaps he could talk to you and get some pointers? With regards to Louie's page, I really don't know what your issue is with what I've written. It is all 100% accurate, and I have considerable knowledge in all things Louis Fenton. Which aspects in particular bother you? If you like I can supply you with photos to prove that nudism runs deep in his family. I did note as well that you don't have a problem with the clearly inaccurate statement that he gives good head. It is a well-known family trait to be rubbish at heading the ball (the goal against Sydney was simply a fluke - for a better indication check out his miss against Newcastle last week).

Anyway, dinner is served, I better run. I'll quickly change the page back and hopefully it will still be like that when I return from the table.

All the best, Rictorious Rictorious (talk) 09:16, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi there

Hi,

Sorry, I am quite new to Misplaced Pages and I edited the Anglia Ruskin page. I removed the part that stated the British Accreditation Council accredited its degrees as this isn't a degree awarding body - I think the university is recognised as a degree awarding body. Jugglesaurus (talk) 10:26, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Anglia Ruskin University does award degrees. You or I could award degrees. However, it is British Accreditation Council that says whether or not the degrees are any good by the accreditation. It may be rather irrelevant to state such on this university. BTW: I undid your edit as you did not state why you removed the content on the wp:edit summary Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 10:35, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi,

The British Accreditation Council inspects private colleges - its accreditation doesn't mean anything for degrees at all. It wouldn't inspect a public university like Anglia Ruskin, either. Anglia Ruskin's degrees are recognised by the Education (Recognised Bodies) (England) Order 2010. They're recognised/accredited directly by the UK government - there's a list of degree-awarding bodies here: http://www.bis.gov.uk/policies/higher-education/recognised-uk-degrees/recognised-bodies In the UK, you and I could not award degrees. "Degree" is a protected term. You could award a diploma or something, but definitely not a degree. Jugglesaurus (talk) 10:52, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Feel free to change it back. Obviously, I'm not an expert here. I undid your edit as you did not leave an edit summary and I did not understand your reasoning. Not because I thought you were wrong. People often delete things simply because they don't like them or just to vandalize. In the US, "degree" is not protected, and there are many diploma mills. It's a first amendment thing, I believe. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 17:34, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks - I will know to put an explnation next time. 2.29.147.133 (talk) 21:58, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi Jim1138, I saw that you put a gentle warning on my talk page yesterday regarding blanking of one of the templates. I did not mean to do so and I am also rather inexperienced, so I thought the template was related to only my own post, thus it was an accident. So, I will remove the warning.

Most important of all, it is always great to learn something new about wikipedia from experienced Wikipedians like you. Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arctic Kangaroo (talkcontribs) 14:06, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

That is rather complex. Given that there are a number of people who bump ratings beyond what they are, how does one tell the difference between that kind of vandalism and postings of early releases of figures? I suspect that this will be an ongoing problem for you and I (as well as others of similar intents) Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 06:08, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello,
Please see the discussion at WT:Record charts at section #4, singlechart. Do not report chart updates (or any other material) without a VISIBLE source in the article as this violates verifiability. If listed ONLY in edit summary is UNACCEPTABLE, since readers cannot be expected to view an entire edit summary for potential 'hidden' sources.
If you go to the bottom of the discussion, you will find my 'work-around' for this issue. Enjoy.
Thank You and Happy Editing.—Iknow23 (talk) 10:23, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Notable Progressive Christians

I know a lot of IP edits are vandalism or spam, which makes any IP edit which adds an external link something of a red flag. That does not, however, make it okay to automatically label and revert IP edits as "spam" just because they include an external link.

If you take a moment to look over the John Shelby Spong and Progressive Christianity articles, you'll see that adding Bishop Spong to the list of notable Progressive Christians is not a spam or otherwise bad-faith edit. Certainly, you or anyone else has the right to challenge the inclusion of any listed individual – ideally on the article's talk page, for individuals who are not obviously out of place in the list. Or, if it seems appropriate, to suggest converting the list into a category.

Perhaps your objection is just to the external link – but if so, it's inconsistent to both remove Spong from the list entirely, and to leave the many other external links in the list. Unless there's an overriding policy for such situations, the talk page again seems like the most appropriate place to discuss whether external links should accompany listed individuals whenever applicable, or only for those without working wikilinks.

If after reviewing the articles you conclude that Bishop Spong is not in fact a notable person within progressive Christianity, and as such does not belong on the list, please make your case on the talk page so that I and others who are familiar with the subject may respond to your objections. I'm sure we both agree that this would be preferable to the alternative. --108.35.11.154 (talk) 06:21, 29 November 2012 (UTC) (This reply to a spam warning template is mirrored on this IP's talk page)

Spong's entry on the list is not spam, but the link to his website is. I removed it and any other links to personal websites that do not support notability. I also removed redlinks per wp:listpeople. Feel free to put a brief description after his name (best to keep it on one line) to distinguish Spong from other clergy. Also feel free to add one or two external links to reliable sources (i.e. time.com or similar, but not blogs or social media for instance) that support his notability. One or two links to personal / organization sites can go on John Shelby Spong, but should not go on the list page. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 07:57, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi. You had converted an article to a redirect at Chris Ross due to notability concerns. I have reviewed the subject and determined that he appears to meet our notability criteria for musicians. As such, I've changed it back to an article. I've provided my reasoning at Talk:Chris Ross#Notability. If you have any concerns with my change, I invite you discuss them att he talk page. The/the Beatles

Hi - your edit comment here drew my attention. The consensus since Misplaced Pages talk:Requests for mediation/The Beatles is that we use "the Beatles" in mid sentence. Essentially, the close is in line with existing Misplaced Pages style guidance, which are also listed on that page. Regards SilkTork 08:58, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

No problem. Editor should have mentioned that in edit summary. Not sure why I reverted it; it's been awhile. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 18:13, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

Sayyid article

Hello, I believe you have made a mistake. In anyway I do not consider myself vandalising, but I believe I am helping the various articles on Misplaced Pages like the Sayyid article which I have recently edited with my full attention and knowledge from various sources. There are many mistakes in the previous Sayyid article which I have fixed, but which you have changed. I do not believe in any way, my edits are in anyway what so ever ae vandilising Misplaced Pages. I too, am of Sayyid origins and I believe know about my people and their culture and beliefs. I think he actually sourced it correctly the first time diff. I reverted the IP too, I checked the ref and did not see the tab. The IP did aggravate a number of RCPs, including myself. Circumcision

You're 100% right. I should be more clear. Most medical organizations (just not the WHO and CDC) claim the circumcision prevents HIV idea is a myth. I believe this is a big deal and should be pointed out in the article. WIKIPEDIA is global, not just American. Apparently, only the WHO and American groups make this claim. Most believe it is a myth. Not everyone nor every medical organizations believes circumcision can reduce HIV. Many doctors and researches point out the following and this should be mentioned in the Circumcision Wiki Page (in my opinion.)

1 Foreskin produces smegma, which fights off foreign bacteria (where viruses live)

2 The US (where most males are circumcised) have higher HIV rates than places where most men are not circumcised (like UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, France, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Japan, etc.)

3 MORE African countries have a higher rate of HIV/AIDS amongst the circumcised populations than the UNcircumcised populatoins (than the other way around)

4 Non-sterile circumcisions have been shown to SPREAD HIV/AIDS Just to name a few CHECK OUT THIS STUFF. Apparently, only the WHO and a small number of other organizations claim circumcision reduces HIV. MOST medical organizations claim it's a myth (like the circumcision prevents masturbation myth.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.55.142.31 (talk) 09:28, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

List of terms used for Germans

Dear Jim, I typically do not go around editing Misplaced Pages articles as I have better things to do with my time. However, when I see an obvious mistake I take it upon myself to correct it. My correction was releated to the incorrect translation of the Russian word Fashisty (Russian: Фашисты) which was incorrectly translated into English as "Nazis" (Russian: нацизм) by whomever wrote this article. As a native Russian speaker, I feel qualified enough to make such entry without refencing a "source." A simple five second Google Translate search from you would probably have confirmed my revision. Reversing entries for reversal's sake is a bit silly. So much for trying to help this community.....this is the last time I'll try to correct some of the BS here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 171.161.56.16 (talk) 04:11, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

???? CQ by Roman Copolla

Hello Jim.

I realize that you wikipedia folks are extremely punctual about making sure facts and such for pages and what not all have something to do with one another. I left a note in the history summary for the page CQ about oh I don't know...THREE DIFFERENT TIMES that having a filmography for Frances Ford Copolla when it clearly states (not only on the DVD of the film itself, but all press materials: CQ is a 2001 film written and directed by Roman Coppola.)and it can also be seen all over the internet. If you were to look in the history section, 3 very OBVIOUS times I mentioned in the history as to why that content was removed. I gave my reason and even put the question out there in the talk section and it keeps getting put back. If you can explain to me how listing a filmography for Frances Ford, for a film his son directed has anything to do with the films' wiki page, then you might as well list all of Frances' films for every film his daugher Sofia has directed (Marie Antoinette, The Virgin Suicides, Lost In Translation etc) because even though he didn't direct those films, why not list his name and all his accomplishments on every page having to do with the work his children have done to be fair. I had no idea that removing something like that, which is EXTREMELY OBVIOUS if you were to look at the content that the ONLY thing in common with the film CQ and Frances Ford, is the fact his son directed it. Roman didn't direct any of his father's films so would one attach a list of his work to his father's page of accomplishments? I really wish sometimes you wiki police would just actually read through the content people edit sometimes without playing cops and restoring the obvious that needed to be removed. It is something so minor and obvious! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.125.88.197 (talk) 05:44, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

on Gender role article

Hey. You reverted my edits, because according to you, they are "not explained". However, all my edits are explained in the "history", and all of them are according to the rules and discussion on the discussion page. I also added alot of content, please don't do this. The article is clearly much better as is, not as a long list of stuff, but rather with short descriptions with links to the main articles. 88.114.154.216 (talk) 07:56, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Well, the last five edits you made to Gender role were not explained in an edit summary. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:02, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
No, but the edits concern the Julia Wood material, which is discussed on the talk page. Maybe I should have mentioned that also in the edit summaries. The problem is that 1) the sectio is too long, longer than all of the rest of the article and the claimed sources have not been found. I put a "main"-tag to link two other wikipedia articles on gender and comunication. Also in the last 5 I think I took out some of the non-sourced claims in the Gender role theory section that had been marked as unsourced years ago. However, there also I put a "main" to another article that talks more in detail about the issue. 88.114.154.216 (talk) 08:35, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
You can put your reason in talk and just add "See talk". I have no intent of undoing anymore of your edits to Gender role. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 08:39, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
OK, sorry. I though that it was obvious, but I should be more careful. 88.114.154.216 (talk) 08:59, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

The article was very bad and needed a lot of work, however it is my opinion that 88s recent edits have made it even worse. For just a few small examples of numerous problems, a study is mentioned and sourced at the end of the paragraph, however that did not stop 88 from adding (more) "citation needed" tags. Or, for instance, this wording:

The process through which the individual learns and accepts roles is called socialization. Socialization works by encouraging wanted and discouraging unwanted behavior. These sanctions by agents of socialization such as the family, schools, and the media make it clear to the child what is expected of the child by society. Mostly, accepted behavior is not produced by outright reforming coercion from an accepted social system. In some other cases, various forms of coercion have been used to acquire a desired response or function. On the other hand, theories such as the socialization approach suggest that gender identification and behavior is learned by the child by rewarded for behaviors that are seen as appropriate towards their sex; in other words, gender is socially taught and acquired (Cherlin, 2010, p.86).

Was changed to this:

Socialization refer to people adapting ideas about social roles from other members of their society. Some theories of socialization emphasize how society sanctions what is considered inappropriate behavior, while other theories such as the socialization approach suggest that gender identification and behavior is learned by the child by rewarded for behaviors that are seen as appropriate towards their sex; in other words, gender is socially taught and acquired .

It's not an article that I work on and it would take a great deal of work to restore it to its previous state - which admittedly was not very good either. Gandydancer (talk) 15:02, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Hey that editor you mention is me. If you have some ideas concerning the article, come participate in the discussion page. A cn-tag is in place in my opinion, if that specific claim is not in the source article give in later on (with another sentecne). Otherwise I'd use "failder verfication". The part about socialization, I'd say is better (except for the typo verb infliction on "refers"). The original claims to know how socialization works, without sourcing that claim. In addition it is too long in my opinion. Why add claims about sanctions and other mechanisms if you don't have a source?88.114.154.216 (talk) 19:59, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Also, just because you don't like some wording on one paragraph doesn't give you the right to revert 20K of stuff without discussion. I had also added alot of content, you know. I think that considering the above passage the best thing to do is to main-link the socialization article, and concisely discus it's relevance in the sociology of gender, so as to minimize redundancy. You should discuss this stuff on the articles discussion page so that the other editors could participate and give you feedback on your ideas.88.114.154.216 (talk) 20:04, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Gandydancer is not the one who reverted you. I am. You keep talking about "discussion on the talk page" as if there is WP:CONSENSUS for your mass changes; there isn't. You also need to read up on what WP:VANDALISM is. Reverting you, restoring the article to the WP:STATUSQUO version is not vandalism.
And don't bother leaving me a message on my talk page, since my IP address constantly changes and I'd have to reply to the message as a different IP. 220.255.2.103 (talk) 13:53, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Jim!

I am somewhat new to Misplaced Pages. I've been using Misplaced Pages for a few years now, mainly for checking things, and I got the idea of making an account so I could contribute. I would greatly appreciate it if you would start my talk page and give me the basic information I should know concerning rules and what-not. Leo 05:49, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Mandatory Palestine article should about Mandatory Palestine, not Jews in Mandatory Palestine !

I was deleting statements that had no references linked to them or the information in those statements were not found in the references sited. In addition to that, I am trying to make the article less about "how much were the Jews better than everyone else" because so far that is the direction that article has been taking. Jews represented but a small percentage of the population in Palestine it felt ridiculous reading this article. It reached an extent where it was no longer about Mandatory Palestine and simply about what the Jews were doing in Mandatory Palestine.

Please stop supporting biased an subjective statements, this should be an educational site, stating FACTS not opinions! And this certainly is not a place to practice and push a party's political agenda.

I am a regular donor to Misplaced Pages and I want to keep this place clean and clear, and what you are doing makes me feel my money is going to waste. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.93.218.136 (talk) 06:36, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Flu pandemic

In regards to my attempt to edit http://en.wikipedia.org/1918_flu_pandemic , there seems to be someone intentionally tampering with the introductory paragraph. I had attempted to fix this, but it appears that I was unsuccessful. I am not familiar with the editing process and probably would be a poor student, but in the interest of site accuracy I would be pleased to hear that you could undo the obnoxious spam editing. I did not check the entire page for errors, but the most obvious were in the first paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.3.195.104 (talk) 11:52, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

He claimed there wasn't a reliable source for them being black, even though in a couple of them there clearly was. Either way, he's still fighting against a long-held consensus to categorize them as such. Please help me monitor the situation...I've reverted him once on the three pages I've listed, I hope I don't have to again. pbp 05:11, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

A reply to your removing my external link from the Nikolai Medtner page

Hi Jim1138. Thank you for taking the time to look over my recent change to the Nikolai Medtner page. I do believe the external link to openclassical (https://www.openclassical.com/composer/Nikolai_Medtner) is very relevant, and should be restored. Please allow me to elaborate on this. openclassical's mission is the organization of classical music, of which there is over 1,000 years of highly varied and remarkable music. More than this, it also organizes existing internet media, providing a simple gateway for a visitor to browse and discover classical music. It is also free to use.

In the case of Medtner, openclassical has cataloged and organized his complete works, providing sorting and filtering tools, and the ability to actually listen to most of his works while browsing the score. Medtner's page has received the highest commendation from the president of the International Medtner Foundation.

For someone visiting Misplaced Pages wishing to learn more about Medtner, I think this is a very relevant external link. Can you please restore the link?

Thanks. D clef (talk) 15:17, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

A few issues with adding links like this. The article is about Nikolai Medtner, not about supplying links to his music. See wp:linkfarm If the link supported the page by allowing access to information on Medtner, it might be acceptable. The second is that openclassical.com supplies access only to Amazon.com. This would open up the article to other purveyors of Medtner's music. Not a good idea. And, the links to amazon.com supplies more information then is needed to link to the specific music item, suggesting a profit motive; i.e. wp:spam. I would advise against adding this and similar links to Wikipeida. Please add new talk to the bottom of the talk page where people expect it. It's likely to be missed if put elsewhere. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 18:00, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your comments. Please let me outline my perspective on this. I think openclassical has related goals to the IMSLP project, which is also an external link from Medtner's page, and most other composers. IMSLP does not provide much information about the composer, but focuses on his musical works (like openclassical, it links to Medtner's Wiki page for those wanting to read his biography). IMSLP also has amazon integration.
I think that someone wanting to learn more about Medtner would definitely want to learn more about his music - without his music, most likely there would be no Medtner Misplaced Pages page. As illustration of this, I note that around half of the text on his Misplaced Pages page discusses his music.
I would also like to note that, like IMSLP, our Amazon integration does not suggest affiliation with Amazon, nor is the visitor forced to use it. openclassical is a free resource, whose mission is to make the discovery and hearing of great classical music easier.
Does this address your concerns? I am very happy to discuss, and make changes to openclassical if necessary, since first of all I understand it is a new project (we launched it this year), and I am convinced that many people will find it very useful when learning about classical music.
Thanks D clef (talk) 02:08, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
