== Those who can write, write; those who can't write, pretend to tell others how to write. ==
Allow me to offer some advice I gave someone else recently: . The (sub-faculty) staff teaching freshmen "Expository Writing" at Harvard has improved greatly since I was there, but in my time these were largely frustrated would-be Hemingways. I always felt bad for my instructor -- pretending to teach writing to a bunch of kids, most of whom were already better writers than he was, and all of whom were way smarter than he was, must have been a tough pretense to maintain day after day. Something like that applies here as well.
I think an RfC might be in order here. Perhaps after a rest you and I and the 3 or 4 not-crazy participants might talk about how to do that. In the meantime, if you'd like a taste of my style, take a look at ] (which, to my surprise, has almost no links from inside quotes) and ] (see esp the passage found by searching for ''device'' -- and by the way this article is nowhere near done and has at the moment a certain amount of what might appear to be OR, but really isn't).{{citation needed}}

I just wanted to you let you know that your comments in the thread Wikipedia_talk:Did_you_know#Error_and_desperation in response to Maile66 come off as extremely rude. It is possible you are not aware of this, hence this message. If necessary, please review WP:CIV. Thanks. Viriditas (talk) 03:48, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- P.S. Imagine my surprise to discover that you are an administrator, a bureaucrat, and an Online Ambassador. Based on your behavior, I find that absolutely incredible. Viriditas (talk) 03:53, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- I for one think you are overreacting. Till 07:05, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- The comments aimed at Viriditas (talk · contribs) weren't that bad, but the criticism coming at the hook is rude for someone's work (in this case, mine). It was clearly a good faith nomination, and I was trying to improve this site and to say bad things like "was not only the most boring DYK that I've ever seen". You should have a least had the proper mind to leave me know you are remove my own hook from the main page, and your reasons why. I'll leave a more detailed reply Misplaced Pages talk:Did you know#Error and desperation, please see that. It appears to violate WP:CIV somewhat. TBrandley 07:45, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- I for one think you are overreacting. Till 07:05, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Thank you all for your valuable and insightful input and suggestions on how to improve my behaviour. I shall most certainly be reviewing my ongoing contributions to this project in light of the criticism here. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 11:42, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- Oops, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I meant that I thought Viriditas was overreacting about your comments about the hook which I didn't really find uncivil. Till 12:20, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- No, it's fine, the response above was to those who criticised me. I'm really going to work on my attitude here, especially as I have the tools to protect pages and rename people. I'm going to try to do better, I really am. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:03, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- P.S. Imagine my surprise when I read that Viriditas "discover" I was an admin and 'crat and found it "absolutely incredible". Happy to discuss where I abused those positions when declaring an opinion on a DYK hook and where I removed an erroneous DYK from the main page, but suggest the discussion is conducted centrally so everyone can have their say, not just here on my parochial little talk page. Thanks for your interest! The Rambling Man (talk) 16:17, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- Aha, more censorship! Well, as you would say "For fuck's sake STOP"! Hypocrisy of the highest magnitude. Get off my talk page forever. Bye now! The Rambling Man (talk) 22:08, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- By the way, there is something seriously fucked up here if you think me suggesting a DYK hook to be boring is somehow worse than yelling "For fuck's sake STOP" in an edit summary. To think, an editor with over 100k edits and such experience would react to an edit by User:Mercurywoodrose to add a "low" parameter to a talk page in such a way is very disappointing indeed. Incredible in fact. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:24, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah it is hypocritical to tell someone to read WP:CIV when you have engaged in using unnecessary profanity in an edit summary (it was only two days ago). The comments at the DYK were slightly harsh if that, it's nothing compared to saying 'for fucks sake stop'. Till 23:51, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Possible featured list nomination
Hi again Rambling Man! I am currently developing a "List of aviation services in the Okanagan" list for airports, heliports, etc., in the Okanagan region of Canada; however, I am not sure it would meet 3b for comprehensiveness, I was thinking that I could expand into a "List of aviation services in the British Columbia Interior" or something. I'm not exactly sure. Thanks and happy holidays, TBrandley 23:29, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hey, I'd need to look at the list you're suggesting to see its scope and context and to determine if it was 3b resilient or not. Let me know. And, of course, happy holidays to you too! The Rambling Man (talk) 23:31, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, it is located at User:TBrandley/sandbox9. As you can see, it is not done yet, but for that, in the table those aviation industries would be the only ones. I suppose I could perhaps provide a couple sentences as a summary, but I'm sure yet. Cheers, TBrandley 23:48, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
- Needs a bit more work.... but let me know when you'd like me to review it. The Rambling Man (talk) 23:56, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi
Hi, if you remember, I opposed your RfB and we had what I thought was a productive discussion about it. While I still think there's plenty of 'crats for me to disagree with, it seems clear that you are not one of them, and I wanted to drop by to say that. I thought that your recent questions to those requesting the restore of rights were very well formulated and I too would very much like to know what prompts such users to requests their tools back after such lengthy period of inactivity, without at the very least returning as normal editors for a little bit before doing so. I'm very glad that 133 people disagreed with me 4 years ago :) Snowolf 02:11, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Snowolf, of course I remember your oppose, it's burnt into my brain! Thanks for your kind words. While we're stuck with our current re-sysop approach, I'm going to carry on asking the questions...! The Rambling Man (talk) 11:03, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Snowolf, you can disagree with me if you like.
Logically, you should refuse this offer, which actually means you're accepting it. Be careful. If you think about this too much, brain cells may visibly leak from your ears. --Dweller (talk) 22:42, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

William Hill Sports Book of the Year
I've put a lot of work into creating and maintaining the article over the course of many years. It's not perfect, I don't own it, and I don't mind changes but if you are going to do major changes we might have some disagreements, as we already do. You could make the process easier by communicating on the talk page and/or creating a draft in temporary space. If you're going to force things with no talk page communication, I would have no option but to open a conflict resolution and bring in outside editors. Given my investment of time on this article already, I would have no problem working with you for the weeks and months required to get the article into good shape. -- Green Cardamom (talk) 20:47, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- While I don't own the page, I certainly created it and brought it up to spec some years before you even registered an account, so don't bother trying that one on me. The use of the caption in a table is not for use to use BIG text or colourful backgrounds or anything equally naff, it's for screenreaders. As for the rest of it, sure, feel free to help making this into an FLC. That's my plan. And happy Christmas to you! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:55, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- Well that's great then, we both have a vested interest in improving the article (BTW my time at WP far proceeds this account). How great of you to create this article in 2006, but there's been a lot of changes since, including my saving it from being deleted while defending it from User:Hazir and User:2005 both of whom would have also deleted it. -- Green Cardamom (talk) 21:14, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- Noted, but you didn't create it as you claimed. And I'll fix up all the issues that have been recently introduced in attempt to make it a half-chance at FLC, it would be good if you could help with that! Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 21:18, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- No sorry I didn't mean "creating" in the sense of created but creating content for it, but granted it was not clearly phrased. I know I didn't create the article (otherwise it would be listed here). I'm basically the resident Misplaced Pages expert on literary awards, or at least seem to be the one with the most edits and knowledge about them. -- Green Cardamom (talk) 21:26, 24 December 2012 (UTC)
- "I'm basically the resident Misplaced Pages expert on literary awards" hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I needed a laugh after watching the Snowman & the Snowdog, so thanks for that. Anyone who "self-identifies" as a "resident Misplaced Pages expert" clearly needs some work on their communication skills! Duh! The Rambling Man (talk) 21:29, 24 December 2012 (UTC)

Wickets
In the discussion on W-L etc.You say that the cricket game article has links that clarify it. I clicked on those links (even though clicking on links is precarious here in Mongolia, since it can cause a crash), and got nowhere. The definition of wicket seems to only talk about the objects (I already knew that), and the next link produced the single letter F. The averages link did make sense for an outsider. But in order to understand what the bottom-line was, I would have had to invest a lot more time than I am willing to. Kdammers (talk) 06:39, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for December 25
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited William Hill Irish Sports Book of the Year, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Back from the Brink (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Question about your BN question
Hey Rambling Man,
I fully appreciate the sentiment behind your questions at WP:BN, but I'm trying to see it through the eyes of someone who has been away for years, is returning, and may be expecting a warm welcome. Your question, while valid, may come across as challenging, as opposed to the honest question it is. I posted a comment to User_talk:Ligulem#BN along these lines. I wonder if there is a better way to approach this, maybe a bit of background along with the question on the talk page, rather than the more public BN page?
Hope you are having a great holiday, --SPhilbrick(Talk) 15:08, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your message. It's been made clear to me that while trying to reassure these candidates that they will still most likely be procedurally resysoped, my questions have been perhaps taken as some kind of official line of enquiry rather than just trying to understand why an admin flag is so important to someone who hasn't edited for four/five etc years. If I bother to keep asking the questions, I'll try to rephrase in such a way that it isn't misconstrued. Happy holidays to you too. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:33, 25 December 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'm glad you appreciate that it might not always be interpreted in the way you intend. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 23:22, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

Dear Rambling Man, season's greetings to you. Can I ask for your assistance Ladsgroup has expressed a wish to change the title of Edmund the Martyr. I have replied to his request here . I know i when I visited his page I discover he has announced his retirement. Advise appreciated . Please fix it yourself others i will fix, Thank You A Great User ✉ ✉ 12:43, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- Responded at the FLC, and added a bunch more comments about issues in the lead. Better for you to get to grips with the MOS than me fix it for you. The Rambling Man (talk) 13:06, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Peer Review
Hello sir, you suggested to withdraw the list and hold a PR. I did the same but anyone is not even presenting their thoughts over the list. It has blocked my working schedule as I was supposed to start editing new article but due to this list, I'm struck in between. Please, present your thoughts and issues on the archieve page. Not even one reviewer is interested, if i renominate it then they oppose. I'm asking when a PR is going on then why they not present their issue now. I think it's unfortunate for me and my work. Please, help me.—PKS:1142 · 19:19, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

First of all, Happy New Year. Please, help me on the peer review of Priyanka Chopra list of awards and nominations. As decided during flc, to get wider opinions on the list the PR is going on. Pls, contribute and help me regarding its PR. This time, i don't want to be left behind. I want it to be complete and one of the best lists on Misplaced Pages. Please contribute and help me. Those who can write, write; those who can't write, pretend to tell others how to write.
I think an RfC might be in order here. Perhaps after a rest you and I and the 3 or 4 not-crazy participants might talk about how to do that. In the meantime, if you'd like a taste of my style, take a look at Phineas Gage (which, to my surprise, has almost no links from inside quotes) and John Harvard statue (see esp the passage found by searching for device -- and by the way this article is nowhere near done and has at the moment a certain amount of what might appear to be OR, but really isn't).
