Could someone please explain to me what those symbals mean, that appear on my watchlist: N User: whatever or M: usertalk: whatever so on and so forth? Almost Famous 20:35, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
ERROR MESSAGE
I received this error message when trying to view my watchlist, can anyone tell me what it means?
- A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden) from within function "wfSpecialWatchlist". MySQL returned error "1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '<<<<< .mine AND rc_this_oldid=page_latest ======= AND rc_ (10.0.0.2)".
That's the message I'm trying to decode Almost Famous 18:00, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- This indicates a bug in MediaWiki. Please file a bug report using the Wikimedia Bug Tracker at bugs.wikimedia.org. Thanks. Kelly Martin (talk) 18:07, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Re: I Have A Friendly Question
Why is your page a target for vandals? Are you heavily into the AFD discussions? Just curious, and could you respond on my talk page? Almost Famous 08:48, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
I wish I knew, perhaps it's because I RC patrol among other things, it was pretty bad for a while there. --Pilot|guy 13:38, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Re: Article Copies on User Pages
In an effort to study Misplaced Pages, its users, and the general operations of the site I've been monitoring the administrator's notice board and someone has commented on a user who has copied one of the articles and pasted it into their User Page? Why would this be against policy? RE: to talk page if possible. Thank you, Almost Famous 05:21, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
If you can point me towards the specific issue I might be able to better answer your question. I don't know any policy that might prohibit such a thing, but I don't see the point in doing it (one may wish to provide a link to the article, however). --Pilot|guy 19:53, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Image copyright
Please see Misplaced Pages:Copyrights#Image guidelines, specifically:
- Images and photographs, like written works, are subject to copyright. Someone owns them unless they have been explicitly placed in the public domain. Images on the internet need to be licensed directly from the copyright holder or someone able to license on their behalf.
The images you uploaded are from sites such as http://townoflongisland.com. Images from this site have already been deleted from Misplaced Pages. As the above states, if they are not explicity public domain or released under a free license such as the GDFL, they must be licensed directly.Econrad 02:06, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware that they had been uploaded alreayd. Almost Famous 01:58, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
TOWN OF LONG ISLAND.com
Is a publicly funded site. Therefor' all images are public domain images. The only images that probably are "questionable" were the car ferry, the freighter, and the summer home. Almost Famous 03:18, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- The postcards are also public domain, no one specifically owns those pictures, although they sell them EVERYWHERE. Almost Famous 03:19, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Regarding the images from http://townoflongisland.com: As already posted here Image talk:LILibrary.jpg, publicly funded does not equal "Public Domain."
- Also see: Misplaced Pages:Copyright_FAQ#Public domain: works of the *Federal* government may be public domain, but public domain "applies only to the U.S. Federal government. Most state governments retain the copyright on their work."
- Most "publicly funded" stage governments retain copyright. Ditto for town governments, unless explicitly stated otherwise. Econrad 04:09, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- Why don't you prove that they do? Or have in this case? You don't live on Long Island, I DO--I should know better than you. Almost Famous 04:38, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- That isn't how it works. The procedure is on the Copyright Problems page. In short, the copyright owner would either have to release the pictures under the GFDL on his website or would have to send a release to the Wikimedia Foundation. Dr Zak 11:26, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you.Dr Zak 12:48, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Images found on the web
Hi there, I notice that you have been uploading a fair number of images that you found somewhere on the web to illustrate articles. This is laudable but somewhat contrary to the spirit of Misplaced Pages. Misplaced Pages aims to be the FREE encyclopedia. The idea behind Misplaced Pages is to increase the amount of freely available information in the world, and that is why creation of new material is inherently preferable. It's obvious that you are interested i local history. Why not grab a digital camera, take a few pictures and upload those to illustrate articles on locality. Dr Zak 13:00, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
"Fair use" pictures in userspace
Hi there, per the image policy pictures used under the fair use doctrine are not allowed in userspace. Consequently I have removed Image:CBL LOGO.gif and Image:Lanyard.jpg because those are copyrighted (and hard to justify as "fair use" anyway. Cheers! Dr Zak 13:04, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Copyvio tags etcetera
Hi there, please do not remove copyvio tags from images that you uploaded. They have been put there, because someone thinks that they might be a copyright violation. The images are now listed for an uninvolved third party to have a look at them. Even if you think that the tag has been put there in error please leave it there. Removing it is considered vandalism.
Also it is firm Misplaced Pages policy not to have propietaty images (such as the Virgin logo) on user pages. Please read WP:FU and User:Durin/Removal_of_fair_use_images. Regards. Dr Zak 18:40, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi. This is just a note agreeing with the above... please don't remove the templates, but instead explain why you think that the images are not copyvios in the appropriate place. Jkelly 19:57, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to hear that you're frustrated. But, look, here you claim some image was published before 1923 when part of the collage is dated 1991. That's a terrible way to convince people that you know what you're talking about. Instead of getting worked up about these things, please take a minute to get some advice on how to follow Misplaced Pages:Image use policy. Jkelly 20:23, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not talking about the collage, I'm talking about the old post cards. The collage is a whole different thing. The tag on the collage says: "possibly." Truth be told, I'm not sure which tag to use for it. Almost Famous 21:21, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
