:I would tend to agree; when you start using socks, it's time for an indefblock. Go ahead and block him indef, and if someone wants to argue it, they can raise it on ANI or file Arbitration and try to make the argument that he's an asset to the community. I'll get the IPs and block them if I can. <span style="font-family: Verdana">] <font color="#7b68ee">(<small>] • ]</small>)</font></span> 07:18, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Deletion

Hello there! I was just wondering if you could delete this image for me, please. As far as I know, the Wikiglobe isn't licensed under GDFL, so you can't use it in other images; and since this one was uploaded to Commons, I came to you seeking help (as you're a Commons admin). Thanks again, Master of Puppets 23:35, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Hm, no can't delete outright; the tag should be changed to Copyright to Wikimedia, though, as all images that use our copyrighted logos have to be copyrighted to us (law, not policy). The Foundation hasn't gotten around to creating a policy on who can and who can't use our logos on our projects, so there is no way to say "this isn't allowed" or "this is allowed." You can, however, list it for deletion, and mention that it's an unsanctioned derivative. Essjay (TalkConnect) 00:30, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

A little question about your userpage

Hi, I see you are one of the most experienced users of wikipedia. I've noticed the icons you've put to you're userpage (actually, I have done something like that in my own) and ask you something: Would you please tell me how to make an image to link to an article? Thank you —Argentino (talk/cont.) 00:27, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

It's in the code that's used to create them; check out User:Essjay/Icons/Right. Essjay (TalkConnect) 00:30, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Delete an audio file

Hi, Essjay,

I was wondering if you could delete Image:Pride and Prejudice, chapter 44.ogg. I want to reupload it. For some reason, it doesn't show up that it's on the server here. I mean, I can go to the page, and view that I did in fact upload an audio file title Pride and Prejudice, chapter 44.ogg, but I cannot access it (I'm uploading these to use on Wikisource) or stream it. I can't figure out what the problem is, but I can upload other audio files. I think if what Commons currently has gets deleted, I can upload it again and have it work. Thanks.—Zhaladshar 02:57, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

I didn't know that this redirected to Misplaced Pages. The image in question is on Commons.—Zhaladshar 13:27, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

The problems fixed (don't know how). So you don't need to delete the file. Sometimes I hate computers...—Zhaladshar 13:30, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Okay! :D Essjay (TalkConnect) 00:30, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

"Please do not. . . ."

<!-- Please do not edit above this line. -->: oh dear, so I can't add another "c" to "sucessful" (sic). -- Hoary 04:13, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Assuming you mean on this page, you're welcome to change it, you'll just have to do it on the page where the text actually appears; if you notice, the page header for this page is done via transclusion of other pages, and so you can't actually change that text by editing this page. The notice is there to keep people from editing the transclusion, which would cause the page header to disappear. You can find the page header text here. Mediators...

I would like to volunteer to serve as a mediator here at Misplaced Pages. I understand that there is a shortage of such, and would like to help. Are you the person I should contact to volunteer my time? Ramsquire 17:23, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

You'll have to put up a request on Misplaced Pages:Mediation Committee. Read through some of the old cases and old nominations before listing yourself to get a feel for what we do and what the other committee members look for when considering applicants. See your Commons talk page. pfctdayelise (translate?) 01:48, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I left a suggestion about how to go about writing a good welcome message, and I'll let the Wikiquotians know about the bot. Essjay (TalkConnect) 03:57, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

You've been truffled by Charlie

Charlie has given you some of his famous Solid chocolate truffles! Chocolate truffles taste good, help moods, promote WikiLove and hopefully make your day better. Charlie also wanted to give you this message: Thanks for the Barnstar! It really means alot coming from you Essjay!

Hope you find the truffles to be tasty, and make sure you enjoy them with a nice tall glass of milk (they're rich)! --Charlie 02:00, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome, you deserved it! <runs away with the chocolates and hides> Essjay (TalkConnect) 03:57, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

I wanna do somethin

Hi Essjay, I took a look at your user page for the first time today and i was like omg :O :P, what awesome work u;ve done,

  • Admin on MetaWiki
  • Beauracrat on ? (sorry! :P)
  • Checkuser
  • Sysop on enwiki_p
  • Mediation Committee

Thats just awesome ;) Well Done. Now i don't mean to be envious or anything.. but what 'things' as such can norm's like me do; such as Esperanza and RC Patrol, but is there anything else..? Also, What's the deal with the Mediation Committee, do u have to be a sysop or anything to be in it? Thanks, --Deon555 04:13, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Check the cleanup categories. The needing-wikifying categories are a fertile source of easy work, and there are tons of things listed in the village pump. --maru (talk) contribs 04:19, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

I swear...Am I the only one getting the "new messages" bar when someone posts here? Is there a committee somewhere that has all posts to my talk page outputting to an IRC channel? :p

On the serious side:

  • You forgot Commons and Wikiquote, too. ;)
  • Bureaucrat here on en.wiki

Thanks, I do my best.

You can do a lot of things; anything that doesn't specifically require having restricted permissions (like blocking or deleting) can be done by any user. They're always looking for people to do cleanup and reference checking, as well as things like copyright problems.

As for the Mediation Committee, you don't have to be an admin, but the committee members tend to look for people who have a lot of demonstrated experience in dispute resolution, and have a great deal of community trust. Reading through the nomination archives is a good way to get a feel for what they look for. Essjay (TalkConnect) 04:37, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

The Middle East Conflict Man

He's got another obvious sock/meat/whatever - Freeway (talkcontribspage movesblock userblock log). I told him when Fooltocry came along that if another appeared, I'd block him indefinitely (which was met with the usual strong protest, and of course by "strong" I mean "you fucking" and by "protest" I mean "idiot"). However since you're checking the IPs I'm not sure how to proceed. My reading of RFAR/Iasson says that if it's obvious that someone's sockpuppeting (on which we both agree) it doesn't matter if they managed to line up their open proxies beforehand, and I don't think it's a violation of AGF to say that TMECM is clearly going to end up banned here as he was on two other Wikipedias. Still, do you want me to extend the block now or wait for the results of your checks? --Sam Blanning 07:16, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Go ahead and block him indef, and if someone wants to argue it, they can raise it on ANI or file Arbitration and try to make the argument that he's an asset to the community.
