Two of my readers created a page for me a few years ago. I monitor it for vandalism. Recently I was asked to update it to include recent magazine articles and places where I have been quoted. I did so. It was neutral and factual. I did it to maintain the integrity of the page. I could ask the readers who originated the page but am not in constant touch with them and don't even know if I have their addresses.

Apparently EDITOR ORANGE MIKE thinks I have made this an autobiography page. IT IS NOT. His accusation of this is LIBEL.
His editing is OVERREACHING. Everything in the article is TRUE AND FACTUAL.

Please remove this page if you think that. Everything on here is FACTUAL an I am an established author with a best selling book on Amazon. Please see the book on Amazon and the over 150 5-star reviews. It was About.com's 2009 Breakup book of the year as well as many other awards. There is so much about the book and me that is NOT on there. There are so many new things I have done that are not on there as I did not want to make it too much.

Please review my reviews and the many articles about me. Please do an internet search about me. PLEASE REMOVE ALL REFERNCES THAT THIS IS AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY WHICH IT IS NOT.

I DID NOT CREATE THIS PAGE and ONLY RECENTLY ADDED REFERENES TO MAKE IT RELEVANT AND UP TO DATE.

Orange Mike is wrong and I consider this slander about me. I am an attorney (yes Orange Mike, you can look that up!) and I want these accusations that it is autobiographical or I want the page REMOVED.

I am a living person and I consider Orange Mike's comments to be libelous. And I will take action if he accuses me of having written this page myself and I will send you to the reader who originated it and is not someone I am personally acquainted with.

PLEASE REMOVE THE PAGE OR ANY ACCUSATIONS THAT IT IS AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL OR I WILL TAKE LEGAL ACTION.

    'I suspect, based on your question'

    The language: "I suspect, based on your question ..." is frequently used in response to questions that are not about how to use Misplaced Pages but about general knowledge. Is there a template that substitutes that language? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:08, 6 May 2013 (UTC) ~

    It's from {{Astray}}. Like many other templates intended for subsitution, it leaves its name as a comment in the source: <!-- Template:Astray -->. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:28, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Userboxes

    I want to put userboxes on my user page. What page are the userboxes on? Robert McClenon (talk) 00:06, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    You can start on Misplaced Pages:Userboxes/Gallery. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:29, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    The gallery is more useful than the category of categories. Thanks. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:30, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    The entire collection is available at Category:Userboxes. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 07:02, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Thank you. The entire category of categories is so large that it is difficult to navigate, but I will just muddle along. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:47, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Language Template for Article Talk Page

    Where are the templates that can be put on article talk pages to specify what national version of English should be used for an article? (I am not referring to an article about a place or a historical event associated with a country or a biography, because in those the language should usually be obvious.) Robert McClenon (talk) 00:11, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Category:Varieties of English templates. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:34, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Relatively straightforward. Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:08, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    User talk deletion

    I'm incredibly confused on whether or not this is in the help section so I apologize if it is. A while back I left my wikipedia account up and a friend went on it and posted obscene things and of course they were removed, but I don't want them showing up in my user talk page or my contributions tab. Can you please explain how I can have my user talk contributions deleted in a simple way? Or if I can delete the individual contributions? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haharyne (talkcontribs) 01:25, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Wrong photograph

    Hello! My name is S.D. Perry, I'm a writer, and some nice person created a Wiki page for me. However, the photograph that appears on the page is NOT ME. I have no idea who it is. I would be happy to submit a picture, if you like, but either way, the picture on my Wiki page should be removed.

    Thank you for your time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.186.85 (talk) 02:19, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Which article are you referring to? I don't see any photo at S. D. Perry RudolfRed (talk) 02:24, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Are you by any chance referring to a photo shown to the right of a Google search on S. D. Perry? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Misplaced Pages" to indicate that particular text was copied from Misplaced Pages. An image and other text before or after the Misplaced Pages excerpt can be from sources completely unrelated to Misplaced Pages. We have no control over how Google presents our information. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:32, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    If PrimeHunter is correct and that is the photo you mean, clicking on it takes you to shelfari.com. You need to talk to them. Rojomoke (talk) 05:04, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    As Google's Knowledge Graph appears to be resulting in a lot of questions at the Help Desk I have just created a new standard response template, based on PrimeHunter's response above. You can find it at {{HD/GKG}}. As with all HD response templates, it should be substituted.--ukexpat (talk) 15:16, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Problem with Template:Infobox rail line on New Haven Line

    Looking at New Haven Line, it appears that {{Infobox rail line}} is supposed to appear on the page, but the infobox is not showing up there. The only sign of the infobox I see is the words Template:Infobox above the first paragraph of text. Can anyone help figure out why the infobox is not displaying properly? Thanks. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:39, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    • Update: I figured out that what was causing the infobox to malfunction was the following line in the infobox:
    map= {{infobox rdt|New Haven Line map|navbar=1}}

    I removed that line and the infobox showed up again. However, this removal means that the route map is gone from the infobox. Is there any way to have the infobox and include the route map within it too? --Metropolitan90 (talk) 04:03, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    When I tried adding it back in, I got a message "Warning: Template include size is too large. Some templates will not be included.". So that5 is the reason for the problem. I don't know if there's anything you can do about it though: perhaps put the route map separate from the infobox? --ColinFine (talk) 10:43, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    User:Original beauty 1/sandbox

    Hey this site was about me and is the first thing that comes up when you look up my name, I don't know who wrote it but it was really accurate and pretty mean. I removed the content but could you please remove the webpage as it keeps coming up as the first search link. Thanks so much 198.151.130.129 (talk) 05:43, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    • The page has been deleted from Misplaced Pages. I don't know if anything can be done about cached copies of the page as it used to be showing up in search results, but they should eventually disappear. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 06:04, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Hi, I have created my page several times but it is getting deleted, can u please share some useful points how to create a new page and edit the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.72.66.222 (talk) 06:31, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Misplaced Pages:Sandbox is a public page where new users can experiment with editing - anything you do there will quickly be overwritten by others so it's not a suitable place to draft articles. See Misplaced Pages:Your first article for instructions on creating a new article, and Help:Editing for editing tips. Please note that Misplaced Pages already has an article about Search engine optimization - any additional content or improvements on the subject would go into the existing article rather than a new one. - Karenjc 08:28, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Task force without WikiProject

    Is it okay to create a task force that is not attached to a WikiProject? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 09:28, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    While there's certainly no rule against it, I don't think it would be properly called a "task force" in that case. WP:TASKFORCE says that a task force is a "non-independent subgroup of a larger WikiProject," so I think a parent WikiProject is a necessary condition for calling something a task force, and thus whatever it is that you're interested in creating would likely go by a different name. What is it exactly that you want to create? Sophus Bie 10:13, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Well, that's a bit of a longer story. I am an NFCC enforcer and perform a task to identify and deal with 10c violations as outlined at User:Toshio Yamaguchi/NFCC task. That task was originally supposed to be performed by a bot. Unfortunately, that bot never materialized (not due to lack of consensus for such a bot I think, but because nobody coded it). After that was clear, I took over the bots task myself and I am performing the task as outlined on that page. However, the number of violations is huge and I my progress is rather slow, so I would definitely appreciate any helping hands on that task. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 10:22, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Also, I do not have an estimate of many people would be interested in joining that task force (not too many I guess). Many of the NFCC patrollers (including myself) are active at WP:NFCR. However, bringing all 10c violations there is not possible, because there are too many of them and NFCR is already backlogged. I personally only bring NFCC#8 vios there or cases where I suspect the file shouldn't be tagged as NFC at all and the task I perform is supposed to handle the 10c violations without bringing them to NFCR. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 10:46, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Aha! That's a lot of work for one person; I can see why you'd want to organize a group to work on it. I think what you want to create would be called a WikiProject proper, à la Misplaced Pages:Typo Team, for example. No one says that WikiProjects have to be centered around broad topics, after all. Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Council/Directory/Wikipedia lists all sorts of projects dedicated to very specific tasks. Sophus Bie 12:15, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Mhm, I would have to think about how to go about that, since I already tried to establish a WikiProject for that purpose and failed. It's definitely an extremely sensitive area. On the other hand, I've experienced few problems with performing this task so far. So a coordinated effort might be viable as long as each participant tries not to act like a brainless bot and tries to follow the rules for the task. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 13:48, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Well, that's a bummer. If you do decide to attempt the creation again, I noticed that User:Sven_Manguard, who seemed to be your main opposition, wrote, "Thinking about supporting it this time around." at the bottom of the page, so perhaps you'll have more success with a second try? Sophus Bie 14:22, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    I won't support or oppose any efforts. I've moved away active NFCC enforcement because I find the whole of non-free content soul-crushing, so I'm not going to support it, but if Toshio has been able to do it uncontroversially for all this time, I'm not going to oppose it either. Sven Manguard Wha? 15:36, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    My bio taken down

    You used to have an accurate bio on me lacking the fact I am a high time FAA Blue seal Private Pilot. Somebody took it down and put up careful slander. Please restore correct version with above addition. Also May 16 1996 cover page of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL above the fold had my picture and said I was #5 national Talk Host. Chuck Harder 174.131.120.2 (talk) 11:36, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    You seem to be referring to Chuck Harder, which was deleted after Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Chuck Harder. Please raise this at Misplaced Pages:Deletion review (see the instructions at the top of that page). Given the Articles for deletion discussion with 3 keep and 2 delete votes I think there is a chance that the page might be restored. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 11:52, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Misplaced Pages Entry for GlobalCollect

    My company's page, GlobalCollect, was deleted almost five years ago for overtly commercial text. I fully understand and respect Misplaced Pages guidelines, but it can't have been the intention for the company to have received a "lifetime ban". How can APPROPRIATE content on the company be re-added to Misplaced Pages? Many thanks.

    Crosebrook (talk) 12:42, 6 May 2013 (UTC)CRosebrook

    No, it was never a ban: it was a statement that that particular article, at that time, was unsuitable and could not be rescued. Assuming that your company satisfies the criteria for notability, it may have an article; but you are strongly discouraged from writing one, because of your conflict of interest (which easily leads to such promotional language even when you think you are being neutral). Have a look at WP:ORG, and then if you think the company is notable, I suggest you make a request at WP:Requested articles. --ColinFine (talk) 14:59, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    i am obviously able to share my watchlist with others (www.mediawiki.org/Manual:Watchlist) I have researched quite a bit, but didnt find how to exactly do that. Two questions: (1) How can I actually share my wathclist (2) How can I access or at leat see another user's watchlist? sry, if this is argued somewhere in lenght, but I didn't get it... Krit777 (talk) 12:48, 6 May 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krit777 (talkcontribs) 12:47, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    In Special:Preferences, under "Advanced options" there's a field called "Watchlist token". Filling in this field with a secret key will generate an RSS feed for your watchlist. Anyone who knows the key in this field will be able to read your watchlist, so share that key with whomever you want to see your watchlist. You can't see other people's watchlists unless they share their key with you. Hope this helps. Sophus Bie 12:57, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    thx, that helps. One more question: If I have this key, where do I enter it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krit777 (talkcontribs) 13:19, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Please see the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Syndication#Watchlist feed with token. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 14:10, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Reply on TALk

    Could you please tell me how I can respond to messages I receive on TALK. Could you please assist with uploading an image of an artist whose bio I created. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Papasart (talkcontribs) 14:02, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    The messages should be signed so there should be a link to the talk page of the editor who left it. If you leave your message on their talk page they will see it. (They may also watch your talk page for a response but that is less certain.) If it isn't signed you can check the history tab for your talk page to see who has edited it. Does this help? Hi,

    I am having problems correctly formatting my references. What am I doing wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nina munteanu (talkcontribs) 15:31, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Have you taken a look at Misplaced Pages:Citing sources and Misplaced Pages:Citation templates? Taking a quick look at your most recent edits, it looks like your problem is thus: the <ref>this is a reference</ref> must go above the {{reflist}} on the page, or it won't work properly. Why are Little Barrier Island and Richard Evans (British author) watched so often?

    I just found Misplaced Pages:Database_reports/Most-watched_pages. Most entries at the top of the list are obvious. But how about Little Barrier Island (rank 16) and Richard Evans (British author) (rank 22)? Does anyone has a theory about this? --Zulu55en (talk) 14:40, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    I have no actual idea, but I have a guess. My guess is that there were edit wars on these articles in the past, and that Requests for Comments were publicized, and a large number of users watched these pages. That is a guess. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:23, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    It’s clear now: Talk:Little Barrier Island#Why is this the most watched page on Misplaced Pages? and moving of the Introduction talk page to Richard Evans (British author) and back afterwards, so all the watchers of the Introduction page – which at the moment is the second most watched page here with 16562 watchers and surely had thousands of watchers already in 2007, when the article has been created – were automatically transfered to the new article. --Geitost 17:10, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Strange errors in a cite

    Please take a look at reference #68 on West Wetlands Park (Yuma, AZ) - it cites a United States Geological Survey (USGS) publication and from what I can make out it is supposed to have a very specific format but I have no idea where to find relevant guidance. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:23, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Heya, looks to me that the META tags from the source page got copy/pasted into the ref. I, as a layperson, interpret the meta tags to be the USGS's requirements for displaying information on the USGS website. It doesn't look relevant to us and could probably be deleted from the reference. What do you think? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:21, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Thanks for the sanity check - I suspected it was an error by the Reflinks tool. I've fixed it. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    Resubmitting a declined page

    Dear Wiki reviewers, i have edited an entry for Philip Awadalla, a geneticist-I can`t upload it for review though. Can you please help. Thanks you User:Cag-anjos/sandbox S Cag-anjos (talk) 18:33, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    You accidentally deleted the AFC review template, I put it back for you. The template contains "When you are ready to resubmit, click here." that's what you need to do. However, you need to fix two of the references before you submit it again as they have become broken. BTW the page has been moved to Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Philip Awadalla, your sandbox now contains only a redirect. The article does not prove the subject's notability - all your sources are by the subject but notability requires that you use sources about him. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:48, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Hi Cag-anjos, I have made some changes to Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Philip Awadalla so it now cites some independent sources. Edit it further if you like and then re-submit the article. Yaris678 (talk) 23:36, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    Richard A. Hellman

    Dear Sir/Madam:

    I am writing to ask your advice on how to fix the following situation. It has come to our attention that the UNEP logo and name are being inappropriately used in a Misplaced Pages article on Richard A. Hellman (Richard A. Hellman). Richard A. Hellman has been using UNEP's logo without our authorization, in violation of UN rules, and has been associating himself with a defunct group known as “Friends of UNEP” which has not existed for many decades. Through using this false affiliation, he has associated himself with UNEP while making statements that do not align with UNEP’s and the UN’s views. Since Richard A. Hellman is not authorized to use UNEP’s name and logo, or to claim, imply or suggest in any manner to represent UNEP or its views, we ask your help in removing the logo, and all references to "Friends of UNEP" from the Misplaced Pages article. I look forward to your advice. Many thanks and kind regards, Regional Director United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.105.109.178 (talk) 19:49, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    I have removed the logo from that article per the non-free content criteria. --ukexpat (talk) 20:12, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
    Just to clarify, it's UNEP, USA that hasn't existed for several decades, and you'd like us to clarify that in the article? Was there any press coverage of the UNEP USA closure/ceasation? Was it succeeded by the UNEP Regional Office of North America? -- Zanimum (talk) 22:27, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    I'm new to all this. I wanted to report a delete article about a place that still exists.

    The wiki article regarding Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, NY is deleted for some reason. The facility still exists, I worked there VERY recently. They are currently expanding. The confusion may be due to a 911 mandated address change. Their current address is: Mohawk Correctional Facility 6514 Rt. 26 P.O. The Wiki "China Pyramids" Information is False

    The China Pyramids were built by "White People" as the Tariam Mummies prove they are not tombs of Asians. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.23.160.131 (talk) 22:10, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    I don't know the subject but I don't see a connection between the Tarim mummies and the Chinese pyramids. It appears the mummies were found around 2000 km from the pyramids, in an area controlled by other people. Twitter: original post of tweet

    In the article Friday (Rebecca Black song), there's mention made of a tweet deeming it the "worst video ever made?" There are references in the articles to news articles mentioning this tweet. Along with those YouTube Trends and Mashable articles, I cite the original tweet. While I didn't try to defend it in the failed FAC, someone raised it as an issue. Is there any way to link to the original tweet, without it being deemed an improper reference? -- Zanimum (talk) 22:23, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

    Why link to the original tweet? Just use a reliable secondary source. I suggest:

    <ref>{{cite news|newspaper=]|last=Baldwin|first=Stephen|title=Five things you need to know about Rebecca Black’s Friday|url=http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/03/17/five-things-you-need-to-know-about-rebecca-blacks-friday/|date=March 17, 2011}}</ref>

    Note, though, that the lead section of an article is for summarizing content in the body of the article, so there's a problem here with this rather significant detail being only in the lead. It can be only in the body in full, with a summary in the lead, but not the other way around. Note also that usually when you source something in the body of an article, you don't need the citation in the lead, but that is not the case with quotations, which must always be sourced with an inline citation, even if repeated. Here's where I saw it: Misplaced Pages:Village pump (technical)#Section edit links are migrating westwards. A way to move them back to the right is given here. Deor (talk) 00:23, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    Thanks for the explanation and the link. I can't find the preference setting mentioned there. RudolfRed (talk) 00:39, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    As I understand it, you have to go to (or create) Special:Mypage/common.css and then add the line
    span.mw-editsection { float:right; }

    to that page. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll probably do so eventually, when I get tired of continually "reaching" for section-edit links in the wrong place. Deor (talk) 00:58, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    Thanks! I've put them back where they belong - on the right margin. Why are the WMF code writers so busy lately, are they just fiddling around out of boredom or have they really never heard of the "don't fix what ain't broke" principle? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:29, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    My Default language - English. What happened to it?

    I've always BEEN a USA American. Misplaced Pages has always spoken to me in my language until two months ago when I VISITED Nicaragua. Now I'm back. When I am logged in - my profile KNOWS that I only speak English - yet it persists in presenting in Spanish until I 'cambiar' the language. Please help to change the language for ME permanently to English. 'Mucho Gusto', Rix Dobbs — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rixdobbs (talkcontribs) 00:50, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    page needs to be verified

    Hi

    i have created a page for Lou Sticca

    I have included several reputable references but the page still has a box on it saying it is flagged for deletion.

    could you please advise why the references have not been verified yet or what i can do

    The high five salute

    I just heard that Dusty Baker was the original person to institute the high five. I always thought it was Glenn Burke who played for the Alburque Dukes in 1975-77 and was called up to the Dodgers where played in 1978 and then was traded to the A's and then became ill and never played again — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.198.2.161 (talk) 01:17, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    Hi. There's an ESPN article here about the high five you might find interesting and our encyclopedia article on the gesture has quite a bit of material about the origins. Anyway, what isn't clear from your post is your reason for telling us this. Is there something we can help you with related to using Misplaced Pages?--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 01:39, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    hi there some problem, with our page!!

    dont know why!!

    Per the AfD page you linked: the article creator is a banned spammer, the page is overly promotional, and the notability of the subject is not established. RudolfRed (talk) 03:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    To explain a bit more what the deletion discussion and RudolfRed are saying: Misplaced Pages is an encyclopaedia, not a directory or website host. It has articles about subjects not people's pages (or listings or profiles), and promotion and advertising of any kind is strictly forbidden. This means that articles are acceptable only if they cover subjects which are notable, which means that other reliable sources have already written about them; and the article must refer to those sources to show that the subject has been noted. It also means that the content must be written in a neutral way; and because of that, it is difficult for somebody closely connected with the subject to write a satisfactory article, and they are discouraged from trying.
    There are only two references in the current article, and neither of them looks to be a reliable source (the information probably comes from the singer himself). In order to prevent deletion, you will need to find the reliable sources I have mentioned to, and reference them in the article. Actually, I don't agree with the point in the nomination that the language is promotional: I don't think it is, but the article does contain a lot of unreferenced detail which should not appear unreferenced in an article about a living person.
    If you can find the required references, the best solution might be to ask an administrator to userfy the article, so you can work on it in your sandbox and improve it. But if there are no such reliable references yet, then there cannot be an article on Nurtuan at present. --ColinFine (talk) 09:22, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    Article Creation Help

    Hello there,

    I work as an intern for the band Bestfriends. This specific article page has been in creation for a while:Misplaced Pages:Articles for creation/Bestfriends

    Is there any possible way to speed up the process? What else would I need to help create the article? Any help would be much appreciated.

    See Misplaced Pages:Notability (music) and expect a bunch of COI comments as well. I find that User:CorporateM/How WP:COI would read if I wrote it puts in a friendly nutshell.--Canoe1967 (talk) 03:29, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    There are 735 pending submissions for articles to be created. All you can do is be patient. RudolfRed (talk) 03:30, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    That's true, but neither Misplaced Pages:Articles for creation/Bestfriends nor Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Bestfriends are currently submitted for review, so being patient is not going to help.
    I would suggest reading WP:42 and WP:REFB carefully, improving one or other of those pages using that information, and then putting {{subst:submit}} at the top of it to submit it for review. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 03:38, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    And also read WP:There is no deadline. If you are in a hurry, this suggests that you might be interested in the page for promotional reasons rather than to improve Misplaced Pages. --ColinFine (talk) 09:23, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    If your organisation has only formed recently, it is unlikely that it meets our inclusion requirements for companies and organisations. Once a degree of coverage has arisen in reliable sources, we will be able to have an article about BYCP. Misplaced Pages is not a news service; we aggregate pre-existing information from other published sources, rather than publishing original information. Yunshui  08:28, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    All Google hits for the phrase "Banglabhashi Yuva Chatra Parishad" are to Facebook, with the exception of this topic. So it has clearly not yet achieved notability. -- Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:44, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    Pingala

    This is with reference to the information about Pingala

    In the section: Combinatorics There is a sentence : Pingala's work also contains'the Fibonacci number, called mātrāmeru, and now known as the Gopala–Hemachandra number.

    Its the other way round. Pingala existed before Fabonacci. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.84.184.140 (talk) 12:06, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    It is not saying anything about primacy. It is saying that the thing known in English as the Fibonacci number was described previously in Pingala's work. --ColinFine (talk) 12:16, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    Indeed. One of Fibonacci's greatest influences in European mathematics was the popularization of another Indian invention, what are commonly known as Arabic numerals but are really Indian numerals. Robert McClenon (talk) 15:59, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    Citation Templates Protected

    I'm sure I've toggled something because the citation templates are protected on my account at the moment. I am just working an article up in the sandbox. Any suggestion to get them working again?

    Sidpickle (talk) 12:32, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    The templates found at Misplaced Pages:Citation_templates are generally always protected, due to their frequent use. However, that just means that there will be no changes to the templates themselves; you can use them regardless of whether or not they are protected. Taking a look at User:Sidpickle/sandbox, they seem to be working fine when you use them. Sophus Bie 13:17, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    They still do not respond when I click to open a fresh one. They did work when I started the article. Could just be a corruption. I'll work round it. Thanks for looking at it for me. Sidpickle (talk) 17:05, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    You need to be very careful with the syntax, one little error and they won't work.--ukexpat (talk) 17:12, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    It isn't clear to me what it means to "open a fresh one". What does that mean?
    I don't see anything terribly wrong with your citations except how you've used |page=. Oddly enough, that parameter is for page numbers. Anything other than page numbers corrupts the citation's WP:COinS metadata. There is a parameter for chapters, |chapter=, which should have the chapter's title.
    Trappist the monk (talk) 17:33, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    When I try to open the citation template for say web it does nothing. I think it may be a local setting my end now that I have thought about it. I just fiddled with the browser settings to see if this has sorted it.

    Thanks again for looking into the issue.

    Sidpickle (talk) 18:42, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    Are you talking about one of the buttons on the editing window tool bar? If you are, then it isn't a citation problem but a toolbar problem.
    Trappist the monk (talk) 19:42, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    I cannot use the template on any article in Misplaced Pages (I discovered), not just the sandbox. Either from the toolbar at the top or the drop down list at the bottom. Sidpickle (talk) 08:58, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    There are two disambiguation pages for Clinton Park:

    Dealing with Hostile Posts

    CipherCloud (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    The company CipherCloud seems to be the victim of a negative social media campaign. The company's Misplaced Pages page is now evidently part of this campaign. Because it's so easy to create a Misplaced Pages account, anyone can quickly remove any information they like - industry recognition, a list of company leadership, and any other information that's factual and unbiased but positive, and make broad-sweeping claims to hurt the company's credibility.

    Certainly, the company can monitor this, and make changes while citing the reasons for them, but are there any other tactics available? What we're seeing here is not in the spirit of what Misplaced Pages was created to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IDigAwards (talkcontribs) 14:52, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    I'm one of the people who edited CipherCloud page and removed your edits. As noted in the history of the article, it was substantially written by Allen Pogorzelski, Sr. Director of Marketing at CipherCloud. It had an "Advert" template when I first saw it. I tried to improve it a bit by removing unsourced claims. I also removed the "Leadership" section. Your username is IDigAwards and your only contribution, before you started edit war, was adding another advertising-like section to this article with the comment "CipherCloud has won some important awards that seem to be missing", adding non-notable awards. I suspect a sockpuppet account. If you have any relationship to the article subject, please stop editing the article. Dchestnykh (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:11, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    : A request for page protection might be in order. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:04, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    EDIT: After looking at the article, it appears that there are a number of issues with the quality of its content. Jargon, promotional language, etc. That there are other editors attempting to conform the article to WP:MOS and other Misplaced Pages guidelines doesn't mean there is a negative social media campaign active. Misplaced Pages is foremost an encyclopedia, and not an indiscriminate collection of information. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:10, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    • I don't think IDigAwards should be telling us what Misplaced Pages was created to do. It wasn't created to be the Yellow Pages with color pictures. There is no campaign, there is no conspiracy, there is no cabal. I don't see the need for protection yet, personally, but I do think that IDigAwards should be careful in both their edits and their accusations. If three different people tell you you're wrong, you could be victim of a social media attack campaign, or it could be that you were wrong. Drmies (talk) 15:22, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    In response to this question, at least one more editor (probably several) has put CipherCloud on his watchlist and will help to protect it from being used for promotion. Maproom (talk) 19:11, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    Editing a page that has speedy deletion removed

    Hi all,

    I want to contribute to an article Payne (company) but I'm concerned that it may get nominated for speedy deletion as it was already nominated several months ago. Even though speedy deletion was removed I'm concerned that any contribution I make even with valid citations may mean its deletion.

    As speedy deletion has been removed, does this mean that it will not get nominated again, and can only instead be reverted back to the state after speedy deletion was removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tauqsouth (talkcontribs) 19:07, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    If the page meets the criteria, it can be nominated again, but I wouldn't expect that to happen. It would probably get reverted back to a good version, or nominated through the normal (non-speedy) deletion process. Unless you have a conflict of interest, you should be bold and make the changes you want to. See WP:BRD for more details. RudolfRed (talk) 19:44, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    I think this is not correct. If a speedy nomination has been declined (by someone other than the article creator), it may not be renominated. It must go through PROD or AFD. (I swear this was a policy somewhere, but I cannot find it now.) Gaijin42 (talk) 19:49, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    Its party of the CSD template, but I cannot find it in a policy. One way or another that is a discrepancy that should be resolved. Gaijin42 (talk) 19:51, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    If you want to contribute to the article and don't want your contribution to be lost by deletion, you can watch-list it, and if it is nominated for deletion by any of the deletion processes, you will be notified.
    If you have an affiliation with the company, please see the conflict of interest policy. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:55, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
    (ec) WP:SPEEDY says "A page is only eligible for speedy deletion if all of its revisions are also eligible.", so you're right. If there is a good version of the page, it can't be speedy'd. RudolfRed (talk) 19:58, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

    Concerns regarding recent username announcement

    My username on the English Misplaced Pages is "Neelix" and I am afraid that, because of the recent announcement about unifying accounts, I will lose my username. I am by far the most active user named "Neelix" across the various Wikimedia projects. As far as I know, there have only been a handful of edits made under that name on Wikimedia projects other than the English Misplaced Pages. On all projects other than the English Misplaced Pages, my username is "Ambassador Neelix". Is it possible for me to have a unified account across all Wikimedia projects under the name "Neelix"? This must be about Data3 limited, it's the only article you have ever contributed to. As it stands, the article is far too promotional, with sentences like "The Directors of PCA knew this heralded a new era for computing." It provides no evidence that the company is notable. And it says that the company "provides .. solutions" – this is evidence that it was written by a marketing person who doesn't know what the company actually does. Just to add (I was the deleting admin), although a bot highlighted a copyright issue, the main reason I deleted Ectomuscle was that it was an obvious advertisement, so the page would not be restored even if the copyright issue was resolved. January (talk) 10:41, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    Problems getting pages to load

    Since about 20:00 on May 6 (UTC) I've had major problems getting any Wikimedia pages to load. Even when they do, most of them don't load properly. The issue seems to be that something or other from bits.wikimedia.org doesn't reach me (or does so extremely slowly) and as a result the whole page essentially fails to load. I've managed to make a few edits (like this one) through persistence, luck and reloading all pages in Private Browsing mode (which helps... a bit) but it isn't much fun.

    Has anybody else had similar problems, and can they be solved by something at my end? (In case that matters, I'm using Mozilla Firefox 20.0.1.) Sideways713 (talk) 08:13, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    Lookingat , it looks like that have been having problems over the past week - not sure it it is related though... 13:43, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    Suspect Medical article

    hi, can someone review this medical treatment page please? User:Bella-doctor/Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy

    I'm a member of a health board that persistently have spammers promoting this treatment. On the face of it there are four or five companies but when you look at the detail you realise it is only one. And it uses google and hotmail contact e-mail addresses.

    The only other google hit for the various terms they give are the page above. It seems to have no references, just claims of how great it is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.165.149.106 (talk) 09:13, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    That's actually a user page, not an article. The edtior created it in May 2011 hasn't been back since then. However, even though it's a user page, I don't know if that type of content is allowed. But there's no doubt that a more experienced editor will see this and tell you soon. 76.189.109.155 (talk) 09:18, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    facebook page called about babies

    Where the hell do you people get off giving information to this page, and where the hell do you think you get the right to steal photos from other peoples facebook pages and put on this about babies facebook page. There are a lot of peoples pictures that have been stolen and a lot of people who want to know why. As wikipedia is mentioned as a source on this page, you have a lot to answer for. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.216.0.59 (talk) 09:46, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    You appear to have a fundamental misunderstanding of the way that Facebook reuses content from Misplaced Pages. Facebook, like any other website, is free to use content from Misplaced Pages articles, provided (amongst other things) that they attribute Misplaced Pages as a source. That is likely what has happened here; they've used some of the writing from an article on one of their pages. If there are photos from Facebook that are being misused on Facebook then this has nothing to do with Misplaced Pages; the photos are not stored on Misplaced Pages's servers nor were they ever stored here. You should contact Facebook about that. Now if there are photos being misused on Misplaced Pages articles on this website then we can do something about that, but that does not appear to be the case here. --(ʞɿɐʇ) ɐuɐʞsǝp 09:50, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
    If you are aware of a picture which is being used on Misplaced Pages without its owner's permission, tell us, and it will be removed. But if you just refer to "this page" without saying what page you mean, there's nothing we can do. And if it's a Facebook page you are complaining about, please complain to Facebook, not to Misplaced Pages. Maproom (talk) 10:09, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
    Facebook community pages may incorporate content from Misplaced Pages—such use complies with Misplaced Pages policies on reuse of content. We at Misplaced Pages have no control over how the content is included nor can we help to remove it. Facebook does have a topic on Community pages and profile connections on their Help Center. --  Gadget850 11:15, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
    It may be even more benign that this.
    Many people are aware that when doing a Google search, a box shows up on the right, with some information, often from Misplaced Pages, and an image, often from Misplaced Pages. However, the image is often form some other place. The text is labelled as from Misplaced Pages, the image is not labeled, and people jump to the conclusion that the image came from Misplaced Pages. At OTRS, we deal with issues like this every day, where people complain that Misplaced Pages has the wrong image.
    Facebook has launched something similar, call Graph search (See Facebook announcement, see Misplaced Pages coverage). While I haven't yet seen it in action, OTRS volunteers received an alert today thay people might be complaining about images from Misplaced Pages, even though those images might not be from Misplaced Pages.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 12:00, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
    Addendum. The images might also be from Misplaced Pages, but as responses above note, if it was properly added to Misplaced Pages with a free license (i.e. not a fair use) then Facebook is allowed to use it. It isn't the case that Misplaced Pages has given it to them, it is here to be used by anyone, including Facebook.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 12:08, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Jim — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pronitro1 (talkcontribs) 14:48, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    Well, first off, it wasn't that the company was allowed to write it, it was that an editor wrote the material. It was allowed to be kept because of what Misplaced Pages calls notability which is described at Misplaced Pages:Notability (organizations and companies) and has to do with whether we can verify the information in reliable sources. I assure you it is nothing personal. RJFJR (talk) 15:02, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
    And also note that Misplaced Pages is not a directory. It does not have "business listings", it has articles about notable subjects.--ukexpat (talk) 15:08, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
    Also note that just because another page exists that appears very similar to one that is deleted in no way implies that the deletion was improper or unfairly handled. For any problem you encounter in an article and which which goes against our policies and guidelines, you will see many other articles with the same problem, not yet addressed. This occurs because of the decentralized way in which content is added and reviewed. Please see by way of analogy What about article x?--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:06, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    Hi, there are a few issues here: 1) Misplaced Pages is not a social networking site or a repository for vanity articles. People who are the subject of articles must meet our notability guidelines. Are you someone who has achieved acclaim in his field of expertise? Are newspapers writing about you? Did you take an iconic photograph that made you the subject of international attention? That sort of thing. 2) Individuals who meet the notability requirements are discouraged from writing about themselves, as this would present a conflict of interest. 3) In order for the article you wrote in your user space to become an actual article, you'd need to submit it to articles for creation. However, based on what I'm seeing in your article (which you blanked from your sandbox today]), it suffers from a lack of any references. If reliable sources aren't reporting on you, and if there are no references in your article, it is going to get deleted ASAP. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:07, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    Help:CS1 errors#Unknown parameter |????= ignored

    See Misplaced Pages:Help desk/Archives/2013 April 29#Help:CS1 errors#Unknown parameter |????= ignored

    There have now been three templates that I am aware have suffered from this problem (one that did not exist prior to the move to the Lua-based CS1 engine):

    While these can be fixed relatively easily as was done with ODNB, it does complicate the code in those templates -- and while I appreciate that the current checking in the new core is superior to the previous code -- I think it would be helpful if an extra parameter was created that did nothing but silently swallow any information passed by that parameter. It would allow the current code to work with just a parameter name change, and it would be a useful feature as it can be used to reduce the complexity of code in any "wrapper template" that calls {{cite encyclopedia}} or similar.

    It is good practice when calling a template to only pass in the parameters that are required as passing in parameters with an empty value can cause problems in templates if the person who writes the code is unaware of the problems and does not code accordingly.

    Up to now calling a template and passing in an unknown parameter was handled silently which was a useful way to write simple code to protect against the problems of valid parameters being passed in with a null value. (see Help talk:Template/Archive 3#parameters in templates passed into templates tested and failing mw:Help:Parser functions in templates and mw:Help:Extension:ParserFunctions )

    Adding an extra parameter that did nothing but silently swallow any information passed by that parameter would allow this new interface to closer to backwardly compatible with the previous interface and help keep the interface to the templates {{cite xyz}} closer to other templates that preform the same sort of reference function (there are a lot of them and more created all the time). -- PBS (talk) 16:36, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    Perhaps WP:VPT is the best place for this?--ukexpat (talk) 17:56, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
    I am happy to discuss it anywhere. Is that the best place to do so? -- PBS (talk) 12:32, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    I fixed the other two examples you gave, though I used a different strategy than the first time. Personally, I'm not really sold on the utility of HIDE_PARAMETER, though I might be convinced. Dragons flight (talk) 18:56, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
    Thanks I could have fixed them, but wanted to use them as examples as to how best to fix them (where in the code is the best place to do it), and fixing the immediate problem was not what I wanted to raise. BTW the parameter does not have to be called "HIDE_PARAMETER". I simply used that name because it was used in an example I saw, and thought it a reasonable self documenting name. Your solution to the page parameter can be generalised for any single parameter (assuming that cite ... does what the box says and empty parameters are ignored)
    |prmtr-name={{#if:{{{prmtr-name|}}}|lead string {{{prmtr-name'|}}} post string }}
    --PBS (talk) 12:32, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    I'm pretty sure we have been here before. HIDE_PARAMETER is an overcomplex solution. You could easily change
    |{{#if:{{{last|}}} |last |HIDE_PARAMETER}}={{{last|}}}
    to
    |{{#if:{{{last|}}}|last={{{last|}}}}}
    But, this is not needed with the new templates. Just use |last={{{last|}}}}}. Try it. --  Gadget850 00:43, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    I do not think "|{{#if:{{{last|}}}|last={{{last|}}}}}" will works as you suggest it does. Here is an example of a template "{{wrapper template 1}}":

             This is wrapper template 1: <!--
              -->
             {{cite encyclopedia
             |{{#if:{{{title|}}}|title={{{title|}}}}}
             }}

    For your convenience I have set up this template in {{user:PBS/test5}}.
    • Calling {{user:PBS/test5|title=FRED}} currently returns:This is wrapper template 1: {{cite encyclopedia}}: Empty citation (help)
    This is not the same result as
    • calling {{cite encyclopedia|title=FRED}}: FRED.
    As to your second solution let us suppose that we have two parameters that are potentially passed into the same parameter in {{cite encyclopedia}}. Lets call them "title=" (for a standard title) and "wstitle=" for one that will be used to pass in a title that uses a sister link to the sister project (there dozens of templates that do this, but for a typical (short) example see {{Cite Nuttall}}. Here is the demo code

             This is wrapper template 2: <!--
              -->
             {{cite encyclopedia
             |title={{{title|}}}
             |title={{{wstitle|}}}
             }}

    The initial title setting will be masked by the second setting of title as wstitle and will not appear. On the other hand if the ordering is inverted then title will mask wstitle (I presume that the ordering is not specified and may change). BTW it is no good suggesting |title={{{title|{{{wstitle|}}} }}} as an alternative solution in the calling template, because if that "wrapper template 2" itself called by a second wrapper template (wrapper template 3) then we have the same problem of title being set to empty so wstitle= is never passed on by (wrapper template 2). An elegant solution to this in standard templates (and in the standard cite templates before the implementation of the new code) is to use a dummy parameter:

             This is wrapper template 2: <!--
              -->
             {{cite encyclopedia
             |{{#if:{{{title|}}}    |title  |DUMMY_PARAMETER}}={{{title|}}}
             |{{#if:{{{wstitle|}}}  |title  |DUMMY_PARAMETER}}={{{wstitle|}}}
             }}

    This will not work with {{cite encyclopedia}} and similar if the left-hand side of the equals sign is anything other than empty (because that give the dummy parameter a value and that dummy parameter is then rejected, but it works will all other standard templates. Is there an alternative elegant solution for the two into one as described above without the use of a dummy parameter which will work with all templates?
    -- PBS (talk) 12:32, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    See User:Gadget850/1:

    This is wrapper template 1: <!--
    -->{{cite encyclopedia
     |title={{{title|}}}
    }}
    Markup Renders as
    {{User:Gadget850/1}}

    User:Gadget850/1

    • empty citation as expected
    {{User:Gadget850/1|title=FRED}}

    User:Gadget850/1

    • title parameter as expected

    As to multiple input parameters:

    title={{{title|{{{wstitle|}}}}}}

    You can nest parameters as desired and they will be parsed in order. Si if 'title', then it is used, else if 'wstitle' then it is used, otherwise, no value. --  Gadget850 22:44, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Gadget850, your your multiple parameters test will only set wstitle if title is not set so for example:
         {{wrapper 1
          |wstitle=FRED
          }}

    will work.
         {{wrapper 1
          |title=
          |wstitle=FRED
          }}

    will not. I have modified {{user:PBS/test5|title=FRED}}
    • {{user:PBS/test5|wstitle=FRED}} returns: This is wrapper template 1: FRED.
    • {{user:PBS/test5 |title= |wstitle=FRED}} returns This is wrapper template 1: {{cite encyclopedia}}: Empty citation (help)
    If wrapper 1 is called directly from an article the error will not usually show up because article writers do not usually pass in blank parameters and if they do then this type of multi parameter test is not often used in the internal code of a template. But it is a serious problem for someone writing a wrapper template if they do not take adequate precautions, because like you many coders do not realise that the inner parameters of an if test are not tested if an outer one is set to null/empty and code "if statements" the way you proposed above -- It took me some time to realise what the problem was when this problem first bit me (see my posting mentioned above). I first came across it as a serious problem in the old coding of {{cite encyclopaedia}} -- where the internal code had |Surname1={{{last|...author|...}}}}}}} and lots and lots of other examples -- when a user of the template {{cite DNB}} posted to the talk page that that author parameter was not being set. If one writes a wrapper template that call warapper 1 (which calls {{cite encyclopedia}} eg:
         This is wrapper template 2: {{wrapper 1
          |title={{{title|}}}
          |wstitle={{{wstitle|}}}
          }}

    It will fail every time that it is called with wstitle=FRED set because wrapper 1 never tests wstitle but instead sets "title=" to "title" which either has a value or is always set to empty and passed in by wrapper 2. Which is why (belt and braces) it is better to code with

          This is wrapper template 2: {{wrapper 1
          |{{#if:{{{title|}}}    |title   |HIDDEN_PARAMETER}}={{{title|}}}
          |{{#if:{{{wstitle|}}}  |wstitle |HIDDEN_PARAMETER}}={{{wstitle|}}}
          }}

    If you, or any one else, knows of another method of coding {{wrapper 2}} so that the coder/programmer can achieve the same level of code security without making the code in {{wrapper 2}} more complex, then please explain how to do it. -- PBS (talk) 09:35, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    You appear to be intent on making this overly complex. I can't help you any more. --  Gadget850 11:17, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    I am not trying to make it overtly complex (and it is a breach of good faith to say so). Is there anything in my posting that you do not understand because the two solutions that you have suggested:
    1. "|{{#if:{{{last|}}}|last={{{last|}}}}}"
    2. "title={{{title|{{{wstitle|}}}}}}"
    have been shown not to work and only to work in limited circumstances, and my last posing here asks for a simpler solution than the one I have currently implemented. -- PBS (talk) 13:21, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    Sister project links

    Is there a way for me to customize the left side navigation so that I can put, say, sister project links there? (I'm thinking of my own user pages more than anything else.) Thanks. StevenJ81 (talk) 19:19, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

    I am no expert on this stuff but, for say, a link to the Commons to appear in the left hand "toolbox", you can add to Special:MyPage/common.js:
    addOnloadHook(function () {
       addPortletLink("p-tb", "http://commons.wikimedia.org/Main_Page", "Commons")
    });

    To adapt for your own purposes, just replace the URL above with that for the sister page you want and replace "Commons" with the name you want to display. Remember to bypass your cache after saving. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 01:01, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    At the risk of being repetitive - I really think it's time the WMF complained to Facebook about the way they use our material - specifically their failure to clearly distinguish what content they take from us and what they get from elsewhere. Complaints such as this are becoming more common and are damaging our reputation.
    But the "Pictures of babies" panic going around on Facebook appears to be a misunderstanding, according to Facecrooks. See . --ColinFine (talk) 22:32, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Counting items in numbered list

    Is there any function or reference template for counting the number of items in an ordered list? (E.g., returning the number "13" from a numbered list of 13 items.) czar · · 00:30, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    1. one
    2. two
    3. three?--Canoe1967 (talk) 00:33, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    Right, I'm looking for a way to return the value of the number of items (for use in a template), such as "3" for your list. czar · · 00:34, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    Not to my knowledge. There is a way of making a separate column that uses pound signs (#) to number the list, but that is as far as it goes. Someone else, though, might know more. Apteva (talk) 00:35, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    superman enemies

    Template:Batman divides to major villains and more minor villains by a layout I am not very familiar with but is neat. This is how it goes:
    {{#switch:{{{1|}}} |List of Batman Family enemies |Anarky |Bane (comics) |Black Mask (comics) |Blockbuster (DC Comics) |Calendar Man |Catman (comics) |Catwoman |Clayface |Cluemaster |Deadshot |Firefly (DC Comics) |Harley Quinn |Hugo Strange |Hush (comics) |Jason Todd |Joe Chill |Joker (comics) |KGBeast |Killer Croc |Killer Moth |Mad Hatter (comics) |Man-Bat |Maxie Zeus |Mr. Freeze |Victor Zsasz |Penguin (comics) |Poison Ivy (comics) |Ra's al Ghul |Red Hood |Riddler |Scarecrow (DC Comics) |Tweedledum and Tweedledee (comics) |Two-Face |Ventriloquist (comics) = * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * {{#switch:{{{1|}}} |Joker (comics) |Red Hood |Jason Todd = ] (] * ]) |] }} * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] |* ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] }}
    It limits villains on the navbox but adds on more of the villains in particular articles. Well I decide to do the same thing to Template:Superman but instead get a lot of unsuccessful results. This is what I did:
    {{#switch:{{{1|}}} |List of Superman enemies |Atomic Skull |Bizarro |Bloodsport (comics) |Brainiac (comics) |Bruno Mannheim]] |Conduit (comics) |Hank Henshaw |Darkseid |Doomsday (comics) |Faora |General Zod |Gog (comics) |Imperiex |Intergang |Jax-Ur |Kryptonite Man |Lex Luthor |Livewire (DC Comics) |Mala (Kryptonian) |Mercy Graves |Metallo |Mongul |Morgan Edge |Mister Mxyzptlk |Neutron (DC Comics) |Parasite (comics) |Prankster (comics) |Silver Banshee |Solaris (comics) |Superboy-Prime |Superman Revenge Squad |Terra-Man |Titano |Toyman |Ultra-Humanite |Ultraman (comics) = * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] |* ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] * ] }}
    What am I missing? Jhenderson 02:27, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    The Batman template uses a second file called Template:Batman/adversaries, which is where the switch is located. I do not know if that makes a difference, or if it can be done all in one template. Apteva (talk) 04:55, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    Yeah I know about that. I don't know if that makes a difference. The second file was there to keep inclusions as it was protected from editing. I helped make it semi-protected. Later on User:J Greb added on this switch device to please more fans with inclusions they might have wanted (which I am not sure he is still active). So I am totally getting confused with this thing. Jhenderson 14:02, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    Thanks I figured it out while looking at the Batman template. Jhenderson 15:00, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Vandalism of the Banjo article

    Dear editors:

    It seems that the Banjo article is continuing to be vandalized every day or two. Can anything be done? Several people are watching it and reverting the damage, but rude language and occasionally racist remarks are being added. —Anne Delong (talk) 02:53, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    It looks like most of it is coming from an IP user, so semi-protection would help. You can request it at WP:RFPP. You can also report vandalism at WP:AIV to get the user blocked. RudolfRed (talk) 03:08, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    New Question

    Hi, I just made a background page on "Islamic television networks" here: Islamic television networks

    I want to link that new page to this old page, which has a list of Islamic television networks: Category:Islamic television networks

    I tried to link it like the Misplaced Pages Help page suggested, using this code at the bottom of the page: Category:Islamic Television Networks I also tried taking the first colon out but it didn't work. Can someone help me please? Thanks in advance! Yallabye (talk) 03:04, 9 May 2013 (UTC)Yallabye

    Categories are case sensitive. Category:Islamic Television Networks doesn't exist but Category:Islamic television networks does. It's fixed. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:20, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Very scantily sourced; refs are little more than listings with no biographical content. Apteva has proposed it for deletion, and unless it is substantially improved in the interim I see no objection to deleting it per the PROD rationale and policy at Misplaced Pages:Blp#Deletion_of_BLPs_of_relatively_unknown_subjects. - Karenjc 07:57, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    PROD has been disputed, next step is Afd. Anyone?--ukexpat (talk) 14:38, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    The article is (now) scantily sourced because 24.125.180.232 (who claims to be its subject) is persistently removing two of its sources. Maproom (talk) 17:16, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    I tried to request semi-protection on the page, but my request didn't format correctly. It might be a good idea for someone to request semi-protection while AfD is in progress. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:36, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    Also, 24.125.180.232, if you persist in removing material from the article, you could be blocked. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:36, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Defamatory comments on page

    I am writing as the article about Tom Waterhouse is continuously edited by someone with untrue and defamatory information regarding Rob Waterhouse. Rob Waterhouse recently won a court case against these allegations and every time I change the entry and delete these negative comments, it reverts back within a matter of hours. I feel this is a personal attack on Rob Waterhouse and the Waterhouse family and something which needs to be taken seriously.

    " He is the son of convicted perjurer and race fixer Robbie Waterhouse." " Waterhouse's father, Robert "Robbie" Waterhouse and grandfather William "Bill" Waterhouse are also bookmakers. They have attracted controversy in the past including the loss of their bookmaker's licences for eighteen years (originally life bans) due to their involvement in the Fine Cotton substitution scandal in 1984. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.146.66.238 (talk) 05:26, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    You should discuss this on the article's talk page. If the statements are backed up by reliable sources, you'll need to explain why they shouldn't be used. Don't enage in an edit war. RudolfRed (talk) 05:32, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    adding new articles

    Is it possible to add new articles under the same user name and if so how do I do this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Craftmethodology (talkcontribs) 09:10, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    A WP:Username is a unique identifier for a person, and is used to identify that person's contributions. Any number of articles can be created by one person, using that same username. A user name that is tied to one article is not recommended, and often not allowed. That is what is known as a Single Purpose Account. While there are legitimate uses for alternate accounts, most edits can be done with a single account. I would suggest reading the username policy and choosing a different username. Most editors do not use their real name, and before doing so, it is important to read that section to understand the ramifications. A good place to start learning how to create articles is WP:Your first article. Apteva (talk) 09:34, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    If you are referring to the content on your user page, then it's not yet an article, nor should it be in anythiing like its present form. Firstly, it has no references. Secondly, it appears to be a copy or very close paraphrase of the web content here and here, so it almost certainly breaches our rules on copyright violation even though I cannot find an overt copyright notice on the pages concerned. Finally, it appears to be in breach of our rules on promotional content; because it is written in non-encyclopaedic, promotional language and actively markets a commercial product. Your username appears to confirm your conflict of interest with respect to the material. Sorry, but it is unsuitable for Misplaced Pages without a comprehensive rewrite and evidence of notability, and it should not be written by someone with a conflict of interest. - Karenjc 10:54, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    While Karenjc's advice is all good and you should definitely take note of it, I think the answer to the question you actually meant to ask is that it is not recommended to create articles on your user page at all, but it is common practice to create as many user sub pages as you like to work on articles in. --ColinFine (talk) 22:39, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Adding links to WikiData

    How in the heck can I link an existing article on the Finnish Misplaced Pages to an existing article on the English Misplaced Pages in WikiData? I'm trying to link fi:Maalarinteippi to Masking tape. But if I try to add a link to fi:Maalarinteippi to the Masking tape article on WikiData, I get an error that the tag is already used. (ec)You have not fully addressed the problems pointed out by the tags - The Bruce Van De Velde article relies on primary sources - specifically the website of his employer. Articles must be based mainly on independent reliable sources - such as mainstream news media, not sources that are directly connected to the subject. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:54, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    If you are Bruce Van De Velde, please do not edit the article yourself, which would be a conflict of interest, but you may provide reliably sourced information on the article's talk page. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:49, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    In fact the sites listed as External links are superior sources for the article than the one that is used. BTW a Google search result is not an acceptable source at all. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:57, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    I think that I agree, but am requesting a clarification. I agree that a Google search as such is not an acceptable source. However, I assume that you agree that a Google search can be used to find external web sites that are reliable, and that the editor doing the Google search should use judgment in whether the sites found are reliable. Are we in agreement? Robert McClenon (talk) 18:40, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    Yes, nobody is saying that you can't use Google to find your sources. But using Google's search results page as a source is a no-no. Dismas| 18:48, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Redirects from userspace to article space

    I created some articles on subpages in userspace. When I was satisfied, I moved them to article space (mainspace). This created redirects from userspace to article space. First, is there any positive value to these redirects? My assumption is that there is not, and that they are simply the result of the way that a move between mainspace and mainspace is supposed to work. Second, is there any negative value or harm to these redirects? For instance, can they create useless hits in searching? If so, how can I get rid of them? Should I tag them with {{prod}}, for instance? Robert McClenon (talk) 17:06, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    I usually tag them for speedy deletion per G6 as "routine housekeeping". As you created them you can tag them for speedy with G7, "author requests deletion".--ukexpat (talk) 17:11, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
    If they are in your own userspace tag them with - {{db-user}} - they will be deleted quickly and painlessly.

    Archiving Article Talk Pages

    They are not auto-archived unless the appropriate templates are added to the page. See Misplaced Pages:ARCHIVING.--ukexpat (talk) 17:11, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Unique Acronym

    I created two articles that have unique acronyms. That is, the entry of the acronym doesn't result in a hit either as a redirect or to a disambiguation page. Should I create redirects from the acronyms to the articles? (I know that if the article has an acronym that already has a disambiguation page, I should add an entry to the disambiguation page for the acronym.) Robert McClenon (talk) 17:13, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    Template refreshing glitch

    A problem I had related to what I was talking before. I created a template that doesn't seem to refresh it's later edits (after the first edit) not unless you go to the edit portion of the intended article. Call me crazy but I don't think it's supposed to do that. I did notice Misplaced Pages did that before while I was editing the same navbox yesterday (but it didn't last) although this one takes the case as being worse because this one doesn't seem to refresh at all. I went on here because I am not sure where to go about it and I know somebody would listen on here. Jhenderson 22:50, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

    So you have {{Superman}}

    Superman
    Characters
    Locations
    History and themes
    Ongoing publications
    In other media
    Related

    and {{Superman/adversaries}}Template:Superman/adversaries

    and each has the same list of 12 villains as the latter is transcluded into the former. Everything looks happy now to me. When you add a villain to the adversaries sub-template, there may be a delay in that update transcluding to the Superman template until the server cache is refreshed by the system. But you should be able to accelerate that if you don't want to wait, see Misplaced Pages:Purge. – Wbm1058 (talk) 00:48, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    • Guys, seriously - this is diseased.
    • We ought to be using categories instead of infoboxes.
    • But if you deny that, at least we ought to be limiting infoboxes to spam only a few links to a few articles, not hundreds of links to each of hundreds of articles. Anybody looking up any one of these characters on a search engine will get a hundred junk hits to sorta-maybe related articles that have the term only in the template, rendering the search futile.
    • But if you deny that, at least we ought to have an infobox template all in one template, not in multiple sublevels being assembled together so that you have to go on a paper chase just to find where the article content can be edited.
    • But if you deny that, then at least we should have one version of the infobox, not different versions for each article that trim or don't trim a few names here and there.
    • But if you deny that, then at least you shouldn't send {{PAGENAME}} as a parameter from the upper template so that an arbitrary number of different versions of the same infobox can be generated from this subscript, depending how you edit it...
    • My feeling is that somehow we've lost track of the notion that there should be some kind of clear command and control over the actual content within an article by means of editing that article itself. If a template is designed to deliver a short list or a long list, at the very least it should have a parameter short-list or long-list right in the main call from the article page, which is explained in the docs for the top level template. Templates that transclude on dozens or hundreds of pages make cleaning up after page moves very tedious and time consuming when cleanup involves finding where the links that need to be updated are "hiding." If a page transcludes several templates, you need to go on a scavenger hunt, randomly making guesses until you find the one. Unless two templates transclude the same link, then you need to keep looking. Wbm1058 (talk) 11:30, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    Well, it was refreshed now on one of the articles (not the rest of them). Although I am guessing we now have issues with the sub-template now. My idea was basically modeled after Template:Batman's Template:Batman/adversaries. We have a category on just Superman villain but basically all the DC comics villains. If you guys have such a issue on the switch I suppose I can get rid of it. I couldn't understand every point that you tried to come across with. I do assume when you say infobox you mean navbox right? Jhenderson 14:02, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    Right, I think Wnt meant WP:NAVBOX. An example infobox these articles might use is Template:Infobox film, e.g., Superman II uses one. Wbm1058 (talk) 16:08, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    Did you try purging as described in mw:Manual:Purge? Maybe if you can give an example page that isn't working, what you expect it to show, and what it is actually showing? For example, General Zod is showing me a list of 12 "primary enemies" and 24 "Other recurring enemies"—is that what you want it to do? When I look at just the plain template I still see 12 "villains" without the primary/other breakdown. That's under template control? Syntax to make that happen should be documented. Wbm1058 (talk) 16:46, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    I exactly did trying purging it by placing ?action=purge on the url (right after my last comment on here) and it seems to work. So thanks for the suggestion. Is there any issues that you think needs fixed or changed? Would it be better withought the switch device? Jhenderson 17:09, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    I don't want to discourage what you're doing too much, I do appreciate your initiative and creativity. There are differing opinions on this, for example:
    I do think navboxes are fine, when used in moderation. If your plan is to show a more complete list of villains only on articles about other villains, in general I think that's a good approach. Don't overdo it with too many navboxes on a single page, that's what can introduce maintenance headaches. Good luck, Wbm1058 (talk) 17:44, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    Article quality scale grading system

    How do quality scale grades get assigned to articles? Is there a procedure for submitting for review or something? I'm aware of how to nominate for GA, but I've been working hard on the Chicago article and would love to see it get bumped up to a B. — MusikAnimal 04:10, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    Except for FA, GA, and A-level, all other grades can be assigned by anyone, including you, if you feel confident that it meets the criteria spelled out for that level (B, C, Start or Stub). A-level grade is handled by Wikiprojects (and if you can't find an active Wikiproject that gives out A-level grades for your article, forget that). GA is handled at WP:GAN and FA is handled at WP:FAC. I hope that helps. --Jayron32 04:19, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    It does, will coordinate with others to see about a B. Chicago GA on the horizon. Thanks! — MusikAnimal 04:24, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    And just out of curiosity, we don't do topicons for A-class? I see GAs and FAs but A falls in between the two? For an example this revision is supposed to be an A per WP:1.0/A. Thanks — MusikAnimal 04:33, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    headline

    I just completed an entry for the first time. The "headline" is my user name so when searching on the internet, it is under the user name instead of the subject of the entry. Could you please tell me how to edit my entry so the top headline is the name of the subject? Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moremohonk (talkcontribs) 04:41, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    Thanks for your interest in adding an article. I would suggest starting out by reading WP:Your first article. Apteva (talk) 04:57, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    The article needs to be moved to the correct name (presumably Kathleen Clark (playwright)). However, it would quickly be deleted if it appeared as an article in its current state - it has no sources, does not seem to suggest Ms Clark meets the relevant inclusion guideline, and is slightly (though not overtly) promotional in its tone. I'd suggest submitting it via Articles for creation, so that you can get some help fixing these problems before it goes "live". To facilitate this, I'm going to move the page to a subpage of your userspace (User:Moremohonk/Kathleen Clark (playwright)) and will add a template at the top which you can use to submit it to AFC once you're ready. The most important thing to add is references; see this page for some help doing so. Yunshui  07:45, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    The image under discussion would appear to be File:Happiness.jpg. Keri (talk) 08:10, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    (edit conflict) Hi Marie. This article may help set your mind at ease. The information above refers only to the source for the picture "Happiness" by Sabrina Campala, and does not reflect the source of photographs of your child (which would have come from your own Facebook uploads). Yunshui  08:13, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    Several IPs have complained at WP:RD pages about this. What they're really seeing is this Facebook page, which is re-using Misplaced Pages content and then displaying pictures (from their own Facebook friends' pictures and their own) that matches "newborn". Naturally this is nothing to do with Misplaced Pages, the photos in question aren't hosted by Misplaced Pages, and complaining to Misplaced Pages is pointless. It's a 100% Facebook problem, and it is to Facebook that respondents should direct their ire. -- Finlay McWalterTalk 08:47, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    We have had several complaints like this recently. But Marie is is the first complainant to specify what picture the complaint is about, and I would like to thank her – it is much easier to look into a complaint when we know what image is involved. But I am puzzled. The photograph "Happiness" was uploaded to Misplaced Pages in 2008, by someone claiming it was taken in Salerno, Italy. Marie appears to be posting from Manchester, England. Marie, are you claiming that the "Happiness" photograph is of your own child? Maproom (talk) 08:58, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    We have received many confused posts from Facebook users about this. Marie said "here is the details of the person that shared it". I guess Marie didn't describe her own photo but incorrectly thinks the Facebook page was made by the author of File:Happiness.jpg. The page was actually made by Facebook who used a picture from Misplaced Pages. Marie, other Facebook users (except possibly your friends) do not see your private photo on that page. A Facebook page can display different images to different people. If you log out and view the page again then your photo should be gone. Persecution of Muslims

    I made an edit to this article, but the history page is showing the edit as being made by user:Ahmedzas. Is this a known problem? Op47 (talk) 12:18, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    I guess you and Ahmedzas made the same edit at nearly the same time, reverting to the 27 April version, but Ahmedzas saved first. This means you made a null edit when you clicked Save page, because you saved what at the time had become the current version of the page. A null edit returns you to the page with no message, so it looks exactly the same as if your edit had been saved. It has happened to me several times when I reverted an edit. Transmode

    Dear Misplaced Pages Editor, I have recently revised the entry Transmode I have written this article for Misplaced Pages on behalf of the company which operates in the same business sectors as Cisco, Alacatel-Lucent and Huwei Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei However the Misplaced Pages Transmode entry has various warnings and advisories: - This article appears to be written like an advertisement. Please help improve it by rewriting promotional content from a neutral point of view and removing any inappropriate external links. (March 2010) - This article may require cleanup to meet Misplaced Pages's quality standards. No cleanup reason has been specified. Please help improve this article if you can. (March 2010) - This article needs more links to other articles to help integrate it into the encyclopedia. Please help improve this article by adding links that are relevant to the context within the existing text. (October 2012) None of the entries of the other companies mentioned has such warnings and I would like to know what I need to do to the entry to meet your standards (and so that the warnings may be removed). The article has been speedily deleted as far too promotional in tone and content - please see WP:SPAM. Also note, that you have an almost insurmountable conflict of interest here as you are, apparently, being paid to write this article. Although you probably disagree, it is very hard for someone with a conflict of interest to maintain the neutral point of view required for a Misplaced Pages article, and that's why people with a COI are strongly discouraged from writing and editing articles where they have a conflict.--ukexpat (talk) 13:49, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    add images to article

    Hello, I have previously successfully added an image to an article, but recently I have tried using the same tutorial, but after saving the edit, instead of the image appearing in the article, only a link inside a frame appeared. This link went to the "file upload wizard". What am I doing wrong? Impressionistic (talk) 14:37, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    According to your list of uploads to Wikimedia Commons, the file is named with a "jpeg" extension not "jpg". I have fixed the article for you. -- John of Reading (talk) 14:43, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    Of course, I should have noticed.
    Thanks, John — Preceding unsigned comment added by Impressionistic (talkcontribs) 15:08, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    If we are talking about Lee Bracegirdle, you need to do some work on references and content. Although it has some external links, the article does not have inline citations. Please take a look at WP:REFBEGIN for help with that. More serious, it also reads like a resume and appears to be a very close paraphrase if not a copyvio of the resume on his website. You will need to fix that ASAP otherwise it will be deleted as a copyright violation.--ukexpat (talk) 16:57, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    At the top of this page, on which you have just posted your question, it says:
    • This page is only for questions about how to use or edit Misplaced Pages. For other types of questions, use the search box or the Reference desk
    • Do not provide your email address or any other contact information. Answers will be provided on this page only.
    Having said that, you might find some of the links in the article Anti-spam techniques helpful; or you could ask on the computing reference desk. --ColinFine (talk) 16:38, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    I have a cite at the top of my page which states: A major contributor to this article appears to have a close connection with its subject. It may require cleanup to comply with Misplaced Pages's content policies, particularly neutral point of view. Please discuss further on the talk page. (April 2013)

    I did not start my Misplaced Pages page. It was started by two readers of mine and they agreed to maintain it but they do not know everywhere I am cited. However, and everything on the page is factual. Whenever a magazine or news article cites to me or my book, my publicist from my publisher or me will add a footnote for legitimacy.

    I have not added anything that is not fact. Everything on the page is simply fact about the book and my work. Please let me know how I can remedy this at the top of the page as it makes me appear self-promoting of which I am not.

    There is much more which could go on this page and is not there. I have tried to NOT put every little thing on there or connect to every article written about me or my book or my work. There is much more that can go on there and I refrain from doing it as I want to adhere to Misplaced Pages's guidelines. I recently footnoted several magazines I was cited in because I was asked to by my publisher. If that is a violation, I would like to know.

    To me, that is neutral and gives an air of legitimacy to what is being written about me. If I am not allowed to edit my page in this way, please let me know. Thank you.

    Assuming you are in fact Elliott, you should read WP:PROMOTION, WP:COI and WP:AUTOBIO. That note obviously belongs on this article, since neither you nor your publicist nor your publisher should be tampering with it, due to your obvious conflicts of interest. Instead, you should have made suggestions for improving the article on the talk page of the article. Note also: it is not "my page": it is an article in an encyclopedia, not a MyPage or Facebook page; you do not own it in any way. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:30, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
    Thank you for not editing the article yourself, which would be a conflict of interest. However, if your publicist is editing the article, that appears to be a conflict of interest, so that the tag is still appropriate, and the article still could benefit from cleanup. (The article doesn't appear to be promotional because it has that tag. The article has been tagged because it appears to be promotional.) You may provide information on the article talk page. Sorry but that "article" is a blatantly advertorial hagiography with completely inadequate referencing and serious structural problems. A complete rewrite might be able to save it - provided it passes the notability rules. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 18:39, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    @ OrangeMike

    Hi OrangeMike,

    I would like to find out why the page I created on the Swedish company Transmode has today been deleted - after several years of being displayed.

    I made some changes to it earlier today to update the content: financials, personnel and similar business related material - but now it has been removed.

    I noted on the Talk Page that some similar companies have Misplaced Pages pages without apparent problems (e.g. Cisco and Alcatel Lucent) but somehow the Transmode content is not acceptable?

    Please can you explain what I need to do to make this Transmode material acceptable.

    You could go to Articles for Creation and request that someone else write an article about the company. Robert McClenon (talk) 19:18, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

    I did not write an autobiography!!!!!! I am not the original author of this page and just recently added citations to make the material stronger.

    User-multi error: no username detected (help).
