ShortcutsPlease submit error reports only for content that is currently or will imminently appear on the Main Page. For general discussion about the Main Page, kindly use its talk page. |
National variations of the English language have been extensively discussed previously:

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
Main Page toolbox- Protected pages
- Commons media protection
- Associated
- It is currently 23:52 UTC.
- Purge the Main Page
- Purge this page
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 23:52 on 31 December 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.
Errors in the summary of today's or tomorrow's featured article
The lead for Hiram Wesley Evans and our TFA blurb states:
Although Evans had kidnapped and tortured a black man while leader of the Dallas Klan, as Imperial Wizard he publicly discouraged vigilante actions.
This is sourced to Steel Valley Klan, page 7, which says:
Categories:According to Congressional testimony, Evans led his Klan in the abduction of black bellhop Alex Johnson for pandering. The Klan flogged Johnson ... " It does not say that Evans personally tortured or flogged Johnson, which our article states.
Although not a WP:ERRORS issue, the article also says, for example:
After Evans sold the Klan's former headquarters, it was purchased by the Catholic Church, and became the Cathedral of Christ the King.
But our article on the Cathedral of Christ the King says that:
Early masses were held in the mansion that occupied the land (a former headquarters of the Ku Klux Klan), but the house was eventually torn down to make way for the cathedral building.
Emphasis mine. The text there is uncited, but the image of the cathedral shows it unlikely to have been Klan headquarters. Following up by examining the source in the article (Wade), one finds confirmation that the cathedral was built on the grounds of the former Klan site-- our text is misleading-- the Catholic church purchased the land and built a new cathedral. In fact, we've also given the impression that the Catholic church bought the Cathedral directly from the Klan, when in fact it was first sold to an insurance company and later to the Church. This is at least two instances of subtly incorrect information in this article. I am concerned about the research that went into the article and that a more thorough review be connducted, but at minimum the blurb needs to be reviewed and corrected. - Main page concern addressed. Others not within purview here. Paging Mark. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 04:04, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick action on this, Crisco! I don't have more time to follow, but I hope this article will receive closer scrutiny, as there are statements that raise eyebrows and are easily checked on Google books. I'm out of time, best, and thanks again, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:08, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

- The official toll appears to be 190 now. You're requested to check. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 10:22, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- @TheOriginalSoni: The article says 210 now. And it would he helpful for admins here if you give the source here as well. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 12:05, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: BBC says 500+ now. Source. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 14:48, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
- This is why we're supposed to avoid exact numbers. Simply use 'hundreds' and then there's no problem of the number constantly changing. Modest Genius 23:19, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- I prefer using a close enough estimate than just the word "hundreds" as it tends to give a much better idea to our readers of how big or small the catastrophe has been. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 01:58, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
- Also, the official death count is now 1000 according to NYT. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 01:58, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
Singapore haze
Currently, the item says, "smoke from slash-and-burn cultivation in Indonesia causes the worst haze ever recorded in Singapore." Shouldn't it also be mentioned that parts of Indonesia and Malaysia are affected by the haze? Judging from population data, there must be more affected people in Sumatra and southern part of West Malaysia. Singapore only generates most publicity 222.165.10.249 (talk) 06:38, 22 June 2013 (UTC)
- I also considered asking this but I dunno if the article says that there are also record numbers in Indonesia and Malaysia. The PSI readings in Sumatra are actually worse than SG's, soaring to 500 (compared to 400 in SG) but I dunno if that's a record there. –HTD 17:27, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
