I will get to every FLC and I will reply to comments I made on them. No need to hit me with "talkback" templates. If you're feeling particularly WP:BOLD, leave me a message here and update my to-do list! By the way, while I have admin and 'crat flags, I'm foremost commenting here as an editor. I am entitled to an opinion. If you think I've misused my admin tools or misused the 'crat tools, feel free to initiate their removal. Just let me know. Cheers!! |

Aeroflot Flight 902
Hello TRM. Regarding this edit, please see the article's talk page, where Cherkash (talk · contribs) and I discussed the matter.--Jetstreamer 19:08, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- According to WP:NONENG, sources in English are not mandatory. {{user}} has automatically notified the editor above at their talk page about this thread. I'm stepping out of the discussion.--Jetstreamer 19:59, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry, but other articles are dependent on this article's references. If they don't back up the claims, then WP:MINREF applies. Please take it up at the aviation project. The Rambling Man (talk) 20:01, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- What exactly do you mean by "other articles are dependent on this article's references" and why do you consider the references already provided as not sufficient? cherkash (talk) 21:16, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know how I can explain it more precisely. Other articles depend on this article to be well referenced. And it isn't. Inline references are preferable, any facts that could be challenged require them. Thanks! The Rambling Man (talk) 06:44, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, let me break down my questions into even simpler ones:
- Which other articles? Please provide a list.
- Why do those articles depend on this article's references? Simply saying they do is not sufficient without elaborating further.
- Which facts in this article are challenged? If none right now, then simply stating that something could be challenged is not sufficient to require inline citations.
- (For bonus points) Do you see where I'm going with my line of questioning?
- Please provide answers to each of the questions above (except the last one, which is of course optional within the context of fact-finding around your original claims). cherkash (talk) 22:53, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- You can see for yourself which pages link the the article by clicking on the "What links here" option in your toolbox. Ostensibly it's the List of accidents and incidents involving commercial aircraft but there may well be others. You need to take this issue up with the aviation project and perhaps get yourself involved in the discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:Manual of Style/Stand-alone lists which is trying to discuss this very topic! It would be fascinating to get your insight there. Any fact can be challenged, if you'd like me to challenge one then I will. But if I do then you will be obliged, per WP:V and WP:MINREF to provide inline citations. For bonus points, it would be better if you provided inline references than just general references. Why do you think we have a {{inline}} template, after all? Many thanks for your ongoing interest in this! The Rambling Man (talk) 06:32, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- With all due respect, but your claims and demands are without much merit. And despite my asking you very precise questions that could help us have meaningful discussion, you chose not to answer them one by one, but instead provide some vague statements again.
- Now more to the point: just because an article links to another one, doesn't oblige this other article to follow any specific format or guideline. Again, see the discussion on the talk page, it should provide enough reason and justification as per why inline citations are not needed in this case. To be even more precise, every statement in this article is based in at least one of the two sources cited. So no need to engage in disruptive editing, and definitely no need to challenge specific claims "just because". If your concern is about a specific fact mentioned, then by all means challenge it and the citation will eventually be provided. If your goal though is just to make sure the inline citations are provided for their own sake – then this may be considered a disruptive behavior, and I would warn you against pursuing it further.
- If you still insist on pushing your points further (for which you'll need to make a clearer justification), I suggest we continue on the article's Talk page. cherkash (talk) 15:09, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for your note. Did you bother reading all the debates and discussions I linked to (i.e. clear links, not "vague statements" as you erroneously claim above)...? It's not just "yourr" article that needs this inline referencing, it's all of those linked to from various articles in the aviation project that assume target articles have sufficient references. You can "warn" me as much as you like, but I'll still ask for inline references, just as the {{inline}} template recommends. Why you think a minor talk page chat between you and one other user means you can dictate how this article is referenced is beyond me. If you want me to tag all the facts in the article, I will, but I had hoped you'd be more incline to be helpful and put inline references in place rather than just argue and "warn" me. Some would say that there's a distinct smell of ownership going here with this article. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 17:43, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- I did read the discussions you referred to. It seems you misunderstood the context and essence of those discussions. To me, it sounds like the discussion was about inclusion of the articles on the lists on the merits of questionable/controversial facts. E.g., if in the process of compiling a list of air crashes, the very fact that the Aeroflot 902 had crashed was disputed, then you'd need to have an assurance that crash indeed happened and this fact was properly cited.
- So bottom line is, you still need to add more substance to your attempts to force inline citations by either a) disputing a key fact in the article which is relevant to the article's inclusion on an existing list (which list?), or b) just disputing a controversial fact in the article itself (which you never claimed was present, and which is not the basis of your currently requesting inline citations). cherkash (talk) 07:09, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
- Not at all. The template {{inline}} says it all. Please, you've wasted enough of my time with this already. It would have been more fruitful for the the project if you had expended this much effort on actually providing inline refs which it appears you say you can but just won't. How unhelpful. Now please do not post any further comments on my talkpage. Thanks. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:16, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi- just to let you know I've cleaned up some of the writing and added a new section discussing some practical examples discussed in the (mostly non-philosophical) literature. If there's anything you'd like to contribute to the FAC, it'd be more than welcome- if not, that's OK, as I certainly appreciate you taking on the GAC when no one else seemed to want to. 2009 Oscars
Hello,
I noticed that the 2009 Oscars has been promoted to featured list status according to Misplaced Pages: Featured list. However, there is no star on the list itself, nor is the Featured list nomination talk page closed page closed, nor does the article's talk page indicate otherwise. I undestand you are busy, but can you update the information? This will be extremely appreciated!

- User:Hahc21 is my go-to guy on this, I'm certain he can fix it! ;) The Rambling Man (talk) 17:05, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
What happens is that the bot is currently down or somwthing. Vacation9, the bot owner, is currently rewriting the bot to make it process FARs and featured portals, as well as other things. Until then, a delay in the promoting process will exist, since I'd have to manually archive and promote each list. Cheers. — ΛΧΣ 07:04, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

- I've removed some stuff from the main article, and put some of it into the discography. However, I think the discography still has enough-more info than the main article to avoid an unnessecary content fork. A lot more listed chart positions and certifications than in the main article, and more list music videos than stated in the main article too. Deserves its own list. Barry Fuller
A step by step improvement based on your comments and suggestions Where's his birth date referenced? A reference link has now been added. Could crop the image for the infobox. Has now been cropped. "2006-07 FA Trophy" make sure you use en-dashes where relevant per WP:DASH - amended. Anything about his personal life before signing up for the Addicks? Unable to locate any info in this regard. Underhill is a dab link - reworded to avoid. Try to avoid repeating "Fuller" in consecutive sentences when there's no need to do so. If it's clear who "he" would be, then let it be "he" to avoid the repetition. "on to make 9 more" -> nine - changed to he where appropriate. "Despite these significant set-backs" I think "significant" is your opinion - reworded in order to be more objective. "by beating the Dale" that's not brilliant for folks who don't know Rochdale can be referred to as such - renamed to Rochdale. "achieved his greatest professional honour to date" WP:OR and WP:POV - omitted for the sake of creating a more objective article. "The 27-year-old defender..." last person mentioned was Frampton - this has been amended o avoid confusion. "making just 9 league appearances in total." -> "making just nine league appearances." - amended. "having made 137 league appearances in total." no need for "in total". - amended " the 28-year-old defender " -> maybe "28-year-old Fuller..."? - amended. Consistent retrieval date formats needed - amended Ref titles, 3, 5, 7 etc... spaced hyphens rather than unspaced en-dashes - amended soccerbase.com or Soccerbase? Now all labeled consistently as soccerbase.com.

Please kindly stop querying the former players and former managers. We have removed the 'Notable' comment, and so it is just a list of former players and former manager, who IS famous in historical football terms (let alone in GNE's history) it does not need to specify or have an inclusion list as to who they are.....do Man United have to say where all their former players are from or who they are, No, so neither do GNE. they are historical players to GNE and we don't need to explain who or where they are from....they are from OUR past. GNEBandit — Preceding unsigned comment added by GNEbandit (talk • contribs) 18:17, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
- What is the inclusion criteria? It does need to specify why they're included. That's the whole purpose of the {{famous}} template, otherwise it's just a random list of names. Why aren't other players included in the list? Or other managers? Have GNE only had one manager? What made him more notable than all the others? This is an encyclopedia, not a school project, we need justifiable inclusion criteria. Manchester United former players article says "This article is about Manchester United players with at least 100 appearances.". So please do similar. And please discuss this on the article talk page, not here. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:24, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to review the article, I was beginning to wonder if it would get stuck in the list forever! I'll try and address your comments over the next few days, and if there's any other problems please don't hesitate to buzz me. Cheers once again :) QueenCake (talk) 21:46, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
Curious
Hey The Rambling Man, I have notice that you promoted 5 featured list, and I do not want to frustrated you, but I am just curious why my FLC, wasn't promoted? It has 3 supports. I thought that a excellent amount of support, to make it a featured list status. I am just curious. SoapFan12 Talk page here 22:51, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- (a) The FLC instructions clearly state "each nomination will last at least 10 days", (b) there are still unresolved comments at the FLC it would appear, with regard to concerns with overlinking. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:31, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- Oh okay, Thanks for explanation! SoapFan12 Talk page here 09:36, 24 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi,
I fixed most of the issues regarding the 2000 Oscars to featured list status. See discuss page for concerns
FLC update
Hi TRM- Just a quick update: List of aircraft accidents and incidents resulting in at least 50 fatalities currently has 3 support and 1 oppose. I'm working to find a compromise with User:Nick-D to gain support (or remove the oppose). I wanted to let the momentum slow down a bit, but should I now be trying to get more reviewers? Thanks, -Godot13 (talk) 13:48, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hey. I still owe you a review on this (apologies again), but my advice would be to make a judgement on whether it's now stabilised enough in content, and then perhaps ask for others to chip in. Having said that, you're already on the cusp of a promotion, so it depends if you want to rock the boat again! The Rambling Man (talk) 16:08, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
- No apology needed, I was waiting for things to settle down and understand the value of list stability prior to possible promotion. I posted the FLC on the Aviation Portal as soon as it was nominated. Between the AfD and FLC, plenty of editors have had the opportunity to express their opinion. I'm not a big fan of rocking the boat, however I want to make sure this list is the best possible for its scope. If you think I should approach another Aviation editor for a review, let me know and I will. Thanks--Godot13 (talk) 17:49, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Could you advise?
Hi RM, I'm trying to help someone out with the sortability of a table, but struggling badly at the moment, as I can't get the damned thing to work! I've got a copy stashed in my user space. The problem I'm having is with the budget and box office figures that just don't seem to want to go into the right place! Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 13:11, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Buggles discography FL
Hello. Not sure if you remember but I was asking you if you could do a copyedit review on the FL candidate page for The Buggles discography. It looks like you forget and just wanted to make sure you would remember, and I apologize if a lot of other FL nominations or other busy stuff has been keeping you from doing that. Have a great day. Peer Review revisit
Hi Rambling man. Last year you were kind enough to peer review the List of people from Park Ridge, Illinois. I'm trying to get some consensus on what these "List of people from..." pages should look like. I've had ample time this summer to revisit this effort and believe that I've addressed issues you raised, as well as those raised by other editors. Would you be kind enough to take another look and see what you think. My hope is to submit it to Feature List review soon. Cheers, --Dkriegls (talk to me!) 22:00, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
FLC rules on sub-headings
Are FLC rules different from FAC in regards to sub-headings? FAC allows them if they're level 4. I'm referring to this. --JDC808 ♫ 19:32, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter, but sub-headings should be discouraged as they will affect the table of contents unnecessarily. Cheers! The Rambling Man (talk) 19:51, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Sorry for the delayed reply, I took care almost all of the concerns the past few weeks, but I been dealing with a just about fried laptop that turns off randomly and unable to replace it for the time being because of a recent illness. I should take care of the rest tomorrow, using a university computer. Secret 00:38, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

I see sarcastic thanks were given to you for honestly answering a question elsewhere. see move request. Maybe not what you intended but it is what it is. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:43, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yep, no worries. I've never interacted with User:Agathoclea but I'm sure their comments were genuine and not sarcastic in the slightest. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:48, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Edit War?
Why didn't you say the same thing to Andy the Grump? Bootyshorts71 (talk) 21:16, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- I left him a note asking him not to edit war. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:18, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you, yes I saw that. I also see that Andy the Grump now has hit 4 reversions, continuing to edit war even after you politely noticed him. Bootyshorts71 (talk) 21:23, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- This is almost certainly another of Technoquat's socks. And given that comparing Jimbo to Hitler is a violation of WP:BLP (doh!), I'll carry on reverting anyway... AndyTheGrump (talk) 21:30, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

ITN
Thanks for your note re Snowden & ITN. I've tried copying the form on other occasions but just made a mess of it. When something / someone covered in WP becomes a major news item, some designated group of technically and journalistically capable Wikipedians should be charged with getting it into ITN. Because, to the general reader, the phrase "In the News" does not denote only WP items recently updated. It just means news. Sca (talk) 21:53, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Just let me know next time you wish to make a fresh nomination, I'm more than happy to help. If you wish to change the way ITN works, then WT:ITN is the place to start. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:07, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- Well, at least the article has been pretty thoroughly updated, though in a chronological way rather than the usual journalistic way — in which the granting of asylum & Snowden's departure from the airport would have been in the 'lede.' Of course by today (Aug. 2) it's old news, but I still think it ought to be in ITN — if for no other reason than to offer our millions (billions?) of readers a ready link to this fascinating and important story. If you'd like to nominate it on my behalf, please do. Thanks.
- Sorry to be so technically backward. When I started out, it was on a manual typewriter and with a thick copy-editing pencil. Sca (talk) 13:49, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- So, I think I actually did it. Perhaps you could check WT:ITN to see if it looks OK. TNX. Sca (talk) 15:04, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

I have to take you to ANI?
A redirect was not the outcome of the AFD. I've asked the closing administrator to delete it under G4. May I also note the precedent involving this redirect creator with the O. J. Murdock article. It was AFd, went through DRV, then Jax0677 tried to make it into a redirect. The redirect was deleted....William 16:45, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- Go for it. You haven't got the WP:COMPETENCE here I'm afraid. A redirect to the specific section of the airline article is an ideal solution. Your determination to delete everything you personally dislike is unhelpful to our readers. Please send me a link to the discussion you start, I really can't wait.
