WSB-TV "Channel 2" (Channel 2, DTV 39) is the ABC affiliate in Atlanta, Georgia. It is the flagship station of Cox Enterprises along with WSB-AM-FM and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Its transmitter is located in Atlanta.
History
WSB-TV is the second-oldest station south of Washington, DC; it began broadcasting on September 29, 1948. James M. Cox started the station; he also owned WSB radio and the Atlanta Journal. WSB-TV originally broadcast on channel 8, while its present channel 2 was licensed to the Journal's rival newspaper, the Atlanta Constitution. When the two newspapers merged in 1950, FCC rules (at the time) forbade one entity from owning two television stations in the same city. Therefore, WSB-TV was moved to the Constitution's old channel (2), while channel 8 was then occupied by the new WLWA-TV, now WXIA-TV. In 1952, channel 8 was surrendered for non-commercial educational use and moved from Atlanta to Athens (home of the University of Georgia, although it did not begin educational broadcasting until May 23, 1960. Channel 8 became WGTV, the flagship station of Georgia Educational Television (now Georgia Public Broadcasting).
In 1955, both AM and TV moved into the noted "White Columns building," where they remained until a modern new facility was built next door in 1998. Both buildings are located along Atlanta's famed Peachtree Street.
WSB-TV had long been affiliated with NBC and carried some ABC programs from its 1948 sign-on until WLWA signed on in 1951. In 1981, it swapped affiliations with WXIA-TV, becoming an ABC affiliate. Former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw has worked at WSB-TV in the past.
WSB-DT went on the air on April 17, 1998 (just before the move), making it one of the first regular-service DTV stations in the country.

Criticisms
WSB is one of the few ABC affiliates not to air Jimmy Kimmel Live. WSB's sister station in Charlotte (WSOC-TV) also does not air the program.
WSB is one of the few ABC affiliates not to air Good Morning America, Weekend Edition. WSB's sister stations in Orlando (WFTV) and Charlotte (WSOC-TV) also do not air the program.
