Unblock request

User:Jllproductions, whom you rightly blocked for having a spam username (he'd tried to create an article on a company of the same name) has requested an unblock, and, after a few rounds of discussion, seems to have adequately understood (or, at least, expressed an understanding) of the problems of spamming and promised not to do it anymore. Do you have any objections to an unblock? He hasn't actually formatted a proper unblock request, but I think the intent is clear. Qwyrxian (talk) 10:41, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

User:Embassy of Iraq

Hello, you unblocked this user a month ago to allow them to change their username. They haven't done so and have continued to edit with the current, inappropriate, name (contribs). QuiteUnusual (talk) 18:45, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Daniel

Re: poopy

Cool. Thanks for getting back to me. So should those sorta names be reported in general? Personally, I've only been reporting them if they make vandalesque edits (sorta like "promotional" usernames and their edits). EvergreenFir (talk) 04:55, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Will do! Thanks again for getting back to me! EvergreenFir (talk) 20:29, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

Unblocking User:Macableton

I've unblocked this user (see your TP archive 17, thread 1.283) under the conditions that he change his username and avoid linking to his site in future, both of which he's agreed to. No action needed on your part, just letting you know.Cheers, Yunshui  07:49, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

IP at Nina Rosenwald

Just ran into an edit conflict with you there. I hadn't thought of the possibility this was more than one person. I have to laugh at the accusation I've been edit warring - that was what I was responding to when we had the edit conflict. This IP is pretty obviously and openly(changing to appears to me to be, see below) anti-Muslim. Hopefully know he/she/they has managed to get attract enough attention. It will be interesting to see if we get any SPAs as the article is semi-protected for the rest of the month. Dougweller (talk) 18:05, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. Actually my sock possibility resulted from not having fully read the section hed that says that comment was moved from another page. In any event, I've looked it up and the IP resolves to a Verizon server in the Virginia suburbs of D.C. Wonder if it's Rosenwald herself. Daniel Case (talk) 18:10, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
The IP has posted to my talk page saying that my post above is libel and that he is "not anti-Muslim and you have no basis for making such a claim." It could be that appearances are deceiving and he is not anti-Muslim, so I will revise my statement to say that he "appears to me to be anti-Muslim." This is on the basis of his edits but I don't want to use your page to argue the case. Dougweller (talk) 15:36, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your help on my talk page. You need to look at . Dougweller (talk) 05:14, 12 October 2013 (UTC)

Oversighter needed

Could you come and check the WP:ANI section entitled "Brahma Kumaris: Protecting individual privacy"? Someone's offered evidence that sounds to me like it's pretty damning, but the evidence was oversighted after it was offered. It might help if you could come in, check the diff in question, and then participate in the discussion. Nyttend (talk) 00:21, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the help! Perhaps you saw that someone else (who commented just after you) offered comments based on looking at the edit before it was oversighted; however, I'd much prefer an opinion from someone who was just looking at it in addition to someone who'd seen it hours earlier, simply because of human forgetfulness. Disambiguation link notification for October 10

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Perry Mason moment, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rose Garden (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Opting in to VisualEditor

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit ") is currently available on the English Misplaced Pages only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 100 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Misplaced Pages:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:29, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Citations in New York NR articles

Perhaps you've seen the latest discussion about NRIS-only stubs at WT:NRHP, which has led to the creation of pages such as User:Dudemanfellabra/NRISOnly. I'm currently going through the "Articles with only one source that is not NRIS" section, marking things that have a badly formatted NRIS citation and removing entries that are sourced to something else. Among the latter category are many of your New York articles such as United States Post Office (Granville, New York), which have "just one source" because they're written from the nominations. Of course I'm not complaining that you're using the nominations! I'm simply coming here to ask if you could go through your New York creations and add NRIS citations (or New York SHPO citations, if applicable) to the infoboxes, since the nomination form doesn't mention the property's reference number or the date when it was added to the Register. Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 13:28, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Possible IP block?

Hi! In September you'd blocked the ip 107.210.111.166 for 24 hours for vandalism. The same person appears to be back it again and while I think I've cleaned up all but the latest mess they made today, would it be possible to get another block applied so at least they'll be stopped again for a bit? Thanks! Ultraviolet (talk) 19:00, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

IP address you blocked back editing again

You blocked 88.104.25.210. 8 out of the 9 edits of 88.104.29.3 have been on the same pages that the other IP address was on. Same IP range. Same rude personality. Same person. They are getting around the block by using a different IP. Dream Focus 17:50, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Request for account to be renamed

Hi Daniel. I recently listed User:BlackBab00nHamilton at the UAA noticeboard with the suggestion that the account should be renamed per WP:BLPABUSE, as the username is a racial attack against Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton. However HBC AIV helperbot7 removed the listing because the account has already been blocked. I'm assuming that if I relist the account at UAA, the bot will just remove it again, so I thought I would approach you directly, as you appear to be active at the UAA holding pen. Thanks. DH85868993 (talk) 11:07, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Why would we rename an account that's blocked indefinitely? That's what we do with offensive usernames, we don't rename them...WP:RBI ES&L 11:18, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
WP:BLPABUSE says "Certain disruptive and offensive usernames (for example those containing contentious material about living persons, or those that are clearly abusive towards any race, religion or social groups) may be immediately blocked by administrators and renamed by bureaucrats to protect Misplaced Pages and the subjects involved from harm." Hello Daniel Case, I was just wondering whether, considering your recent indefinite block of Edaniels1004 (talk · contribs), the page Misplaced Pages:Edaniels1004 should be deleted. Thanks, Toccata quarta (talk) 07:27, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Non-violation of Vantage Production Ltd

Hi,

I've just spotted at WP:UAA you've not blocked, for example, "Vantage Production Ltd". Surely that account is either misleading due to it not being controlled by a company, or it is controlled by a company and therefore afoul of our rules about accounts only being for one user? I can see a few cases where you've declined to block in similar circumstances, and I don't understand the logic for letting them lie when, for example, "Juiceentertainment" has just been blocked on these grounds.

A longer block

Hey Daniel, I was thinking that User: Shoka1234 deserves a longer block due to this comment, the user was blocked for personal attacks and harassment before, and frankly the user frequently violates WP:V and probably deserved a longer block then 12 hours from the beginning. Its all on your opinion though. STATic message me! 04:12, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I mean it is one thing to call names to another editor, but to tell two editors to "kill themselves" is a bit extreme to me, people that are going to say those type of things frankly do not belong here, in my opinion. But I will message the blocking admin. Regards, STATic message me! 04:54, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

UAA issue

Since I've talked with you in the past about the UAA list, I thought I'd turn to you in this case. Another admin was clearing out the UAA list and removed two (1 and 2) offensive names because of their lack of edits. I've not seen any other admin have this policy, nor is it mentioned anywhere in the guidelines or on TW. I understand why we have this policy for promo names, but it seems unreasonable to patently disregard offensive usernames because of their lack of edits. Indeed, I've seen many usernames be hard blocked for offensiveness without any edits. As I've explained to the admin, my issue is not with the ruling of offensiveness, it's the removal of the names due to lack of edits (instead of a UAA|no and it being left on the board for others to see and possible discuss). I just request that a second opinion on this issue. Thank you for your time. EvergreenFir (talk) 22:50, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Avoidance of a block

An IP editor that you blocked today is avoiding his block and being disruptive on Talk:Kleargear. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 19:02, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

Persistent Alvin and the Chipmunks vandal again

Daniel, please could you investigate this disruptive user who persistently puts unsourced / unhelpful material about "Alvin and the Chipmunks" into articles about songs. You previously issued a block against the user, but whenever the anonymous IP user is blocked, he or she just comes back again under a different IP address.

Over a sustained long period of time, the amount of disruption that he or she has caused to articles is huge.

97.86.5.61 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)

Then evaded block by coming back as:

198.246.7.69 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)

Has come back recently as:

68.186.161.55 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)

If I report him or her to "Administrator intervention against vandalism", I may possibly be told by Admin that not enough warnings have been issued against the latest IP address 68.186.161.55. But the problem is that he or she continually does this under different IP addresses and evades blocks in this way.

The IP user's persistent disruptive edits in my view now merit a long-range IP block. Otherwise this will carry on indefinitely and continue to damage the Misplaced Pages community. Kind Tennis Fan (talk) 20:54, 28 November 2013 (UTC)

My guess is my questions will go nowhere, anyway, but I'm a glutton for punishment.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:21, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for Thanks

Daniel, thanks for reaching out re: the revenge porn article and for creating/adding the Wiktionary entry! I was only able to dedicate the time and resources to working on the article because I pitched it as a Directed Research project to my law school. It's going up for evaluation soon and I would be honored if you or User:Jayen466 looked through the article - it's gone through a lot of changes - and improvements! - since it was first evaluated in October. Thanks again. - Amphiggins (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:29, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. December 2013 Spuyten Duyvil derailment

Hi, Daniel. I'm just wondering how a section about how to get around the accident is germane to the article. Doesn't WP:NOTTRAVEL still apply? Epicgenius (talk) 16:53, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

I don't think that information comes directly under WP:NOTTRAVEL, at least not based on the examples given there (putting in the MTA's phone number or URL and telling people to call for information would be closer to what I think that's intended to exclude). In any invent I didn't phrase it as a direct how-to for that reason, as well.

But I think that how the two railroads—including the one whose train did not derail—responded to the accident in terms of guaranteeing service to their riders is useful information, for comparison purposes if nothing else should something similar happen in the future. We did, after all, find Sandy's effect on the city's transportation network notable enough to have a section on (and that's sort of how that section of the derailment article should read once this is all safely in the past). Daniel Case (talk) 22:55, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Although it may not come under WP:NOTTRAVEL, saying "The next day, the first regular business day back from the Thanksgiving holiday, it restored limited service as far south as Yonkers, three stations north of where the derailment occurred. From there riders were advised to take a shuttle bus to the Van Cortlandt Park—242nd Street subway station, the northern terminus of the 1 service into Manhattan and Penn Station, where they could take the 42nd Street Shuttle to Grand Central, the usual southern terminus of the Hudson Line," is basically answering the question "How do you get from Yonkers to Penn Station on the day after the crash?"

These can be interpreted by some as travel directions for the commute on Monday, and they were not under WP:NOTTRAVEL because you added that text today. By contrast, Sandy's effects on transport were just that—effects on transport. So, your text was not exactly travel directions; however, they sounded like they were. Epicgenius (talk) 23:59, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

You got it. If I had written that as more of an explicit how-to, as something like "travelers can take a shuttle bus from Yonkers to ...", then it would fall afoul of NOTTRAVEL. A description of a process can sometimes be read as instructive (See French press#Preparation, for instance—you could derive instructions for how to make coffee that way just from that section. And then you could literally see the accompanying video of me making coffee that way, in case the text wasn't enough. Daniel Case (talk) 06:38, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
Okay, got it. Epicgenius (talk) 13:21, 4 December 2013 (UTC)
