Welcome to Misplaced Pages!

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

You are welcome to continue editing without logging in, but you may want to consider creating an account. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits such as the ability to create articles. For a full outline and explanation of the benefits that come with creating an account, please see this page. If you edit without a username, your IP address (78.156.109.166) is used to identify you instead.

In any case, I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, check out Misplaced Pages:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on this page. Again, welcome! — Cirt (talk) 16:00, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Please ask your queries on a relevant desk

You have put two queries on the Computing reference desk that have nothing to do with computing. Please try harder to ask at an appropriate desk and not stick irrelevant questions where they're not wanted. Dmcq (talk) 21:55, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Your recent edits

Information icon Hello and welcome to Misplaced Pages. When you add content to talk pages and Misplaced Pages pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 15:38, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm TeaDrinker. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, you can use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! TeaDrinker (talk) 22:09, 1 December 2013 (UTC)

If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
What does "anon. only" mean? From "(anon. only, account creation blocked)". 78.156.109.166 (talk) 10:08, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I will behave

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Misplaced Pages, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Yunshui  14:23, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Anon only

To answer your question what does "anon only" mean in the context of a block, when a user is blocked, the blocking administrator has several options. In the case of blocking an IP address, an admin can allow editors to log in to edit but block anonymous edits. That way if it is a shared IP address (one used by multiple users), anyone already using the IP address with a log in can continue to do so, but anonymous editing is blocked. This is usually coupled with a block on account creation, so that a blocked user can not simply create an account to evade the block. However existing accounts can continue to use the IP address if they are logged in. Hope this helps, --TeaDrinker (talk) 21:01, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

How does one log in with an IP? So that means that I am both blocked from account creating and anonymous edits? But not logging in with an IP? --78.156.109.166 (talk) 20:19, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
"Log in with an IP" refers to someone using this IP address who already has a registered Misplaced Pages account. Such a person can still log in to their account from this IP and edit, although anonymous users are blocked. JohnCD (talk) 21:53, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

9 December 2013

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:30, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Why does this say 9 December 2013? May have been involved? I think it's a sure thing I am involved. --78.156.109.166 (talk) 20:02, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

In response to your question

Given your dozens of posts to the reference desk or help desk in the past few days, I suggest that you hold off on asking any more questions at either location. --TeaDrinker (talk) 13:14, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Which question--78.156.109.166 (talk) 15:44, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

You asked where to post a question asking where to ask about browser problems when viewing Misplaced Pages. Since you have asked dozens of questions in recent days, I suggest you not ask additional questions for the time being. --TeaDrinker (talk) 16:00, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Blocked again :D

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of one week for disruptive editing, as per ANI discussion. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  JohnCD (talk) 20:16, 8 December 2013 (UTC)
