about you
After going again to ← that talk we were having on wikipedia talk:disambiguation
I've just noticed there are a lot more about you I wanted to know! :P
Just like when I met User:EliasAlucard, few hours ago. o_O
But your webpage has so little about you, and I still could find so many coincidences!
I really wish we could talk, I believe we have a lot to learn from each other.
For example: I'd love to build a simple page like yours, instead of the mess I have on mine right now. :P
Try to find me on Google Talk if you also want to, it's not too difficult. :)
Or maybe on WoW's Blizard game. (I'm heading to there now). XD

I'd love to see an advice from you on that! :)
I'm off wikipedia now. Thanks again!

Maramec Spring Park
I saw the link you added to Meramec River article referencing the non-existent Maramec Spring Park article. Are you working on that article? I was thinking of starting one up myself, but if you're working on it, I'll wait and see what you come up with, though I'd be inclined to just name the article Maramec Spring. Whatever, I have some pictures I can upload for it. -- 04:44, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- No, I'm not working on this article. I came to the set of dab pages for the homonyms of 'meramec' via a set of information I'm working on that included a reference to "Merrimack Pharmaceuticals", so my actions were related to general cleaning of a related set of disambiguation pages. Please create and edit the article as you see fit. Courtland 05:00, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

20 week break
Yes, of course, this solves much. Not sure I can do that, however. How 'bout 2 weeks? :-) By then I will have forgotten all about this page anyway. :-) By the way, how'd you get your sig to not have a link here? Is that on purpose? Makes it harder to talk with you, ya know? Tedernst | talk 22:39, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
- Interesting on your sig. And yes, I understood you mean 20 weeks away from that article. Catherine Munro made a similar recommnedation just now in a different section of the page. I forget about pages within days if they don't show up on my watchlist, so just backing away for 2 days is probably enough. :-) Tedernst | talk 22:58, 28 December 2005 (UTC)
Signature
I noticed that your signature does not link to your user page, which I'm assuming is deliberate. I'd like to ask that you consider having at least one character link to your user page or talk page, or perhaps if you don't mind you could let me know why you don't wish to do so? Thanks! — Knowledge Seeker দ 05:18, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I hope I didn't come across as being bossy. I understand your desire to avoid excessive conversation, although I still feel that one should have a link to some personal page, as you have done in your last message to me (although if you disagree, I am not going to cause any trouble for you or anything). Your other reason makes sense as well. Linking to your talk page seems to be a good way around that obstacle, or if you prefer you could link to a user subpage instead. Whatever you wish. Thanks for being receptive! — Knowledge Seeker দ 03:04, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

ACC merge
Hi Ceyockey,
At the end of the last year, about 2 weeks ago, you proposed merging Adaptive cruise control into Cruise control. I agree with you on this one, and I think its been long enough that anyone who wants to oppose it would have (since CC is so controversial!). Thus, I am planning to make this my Merge of the Day coming up soon, unless for some reason you want to do it yourself. (I'm sorta new to wikipedia, but I've noticed from lurking around talk pages that people here can be very territorial. So I figured, better safe than sorry, don't wanna 'steal someone's thunder'.... probably i'm just being silly) The pi pirate 01:53, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
88th Regiment of Foot
Hello,
I just stumbled across List of Regiments of Foot. It looks as though this edit of yours added added the template for 88th Regiment of Foot into the list. However, it looks as though that also included this article in Category:Disambiguation. I edited 88th Regiment of Foot so that the category was bracketed by <noinclude></noinclude> tags. I *think* that this has resulted in the category not appearing in the List of regiments article. I'm not sure if you are still using this approach to sub dab pages or not, but thought you might be interested. older ≠ wiser 02:45, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Afghanistan-geo-stub.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Afghanistan-geo-stub.png. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. -- Carnildo 09:53, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:List of administrators
Hungary, objectivity and all the rest
In principle, you are perfectly right, of course ! But on the other hand, please also try to understand me - I think I have made it clear that the sections on Hungarian history (as literally thousands of pages on similar topics on Misplaced Pages) contain not only a host of factual errors (e.g. wrong year dates) that can easily be corrected but are in general written in an "ideological framework" that permeats most of its pages and makes the expression of views diverging from the "mainstream" of Misplaced Pages's "experienced editors" nearly impossible.
I neither have the time nor the wish to surf through Misplaced Pages for weeks on end to make articles on all things "communist", "Soviet" and "East European" at least ideologically more "neutral" (I dare not beg for more). The only result (even I would tame myself to the utmost) would be that most of my changes would get reversed in a timespan ranging from a few minutes to a few weeks. The senselessness of such an enterprise can be proven by the behavior of people sharing my points of view: Since I am definitely not alone in my convictions (and also not in the undeniable fact that I know a little bit more about those things than most of Misplaced Pages's "hobby experts") it seems strange on first glance that there are not many more people constantly trying to influence and to rectify Misplaced Pages's stance. But the reason is quite simple and understandable: they, too, feel that such an undertaking would only cost huge amounts of time and in the end produce nothing more than frustration (and the pledge never to get involved in such editing wars again).
To exemplify this on Hungary: I'm really not in the mood for a discussion about the events in 1956, with angry young men and women constantly re-editing my modest changes and hissing at me on talk pages because "that's not what our history teacher has told us".
I do not have the capacity (nor, again, the wish) to fight an "official" picture of history that seems (for the time being !) invincible in a general public context like Misplaced Pages against a majority of streamlined "politically" and "historically correct" editors.
In my first comment, I have already talked about "historical myths" so extremely "en vogue" today in Eastern Europe (as in the rest of the world). These myths are different in every single country and are invented, nurtured and changed (if necessary and opportune) to fit the interests of the current political, economic and scientific establishment. In Hungary this is inter alia the myth of "We have been the first. We have made it best." "And furthermore even before 1988/89 our 'communist dictatorship' has been a tiny bit 'softer' than most others (viz. all this nonsense about the 'happiest barrack')." Numerous past and present forces and interests collide and interact here to produce "national myths" conceived to secure and serve current interests. Often even if certain claims have at least some historical foundation, they are presented and interpreted in such a way and are put in such a crooked context as to render their explanatory power practically inexistent.
By the way: after having read the sections on Hungarian history in question again, I am convinced that their core originates from some cheap "propaganda leaflet" (perhaps even something like a travel brochure) from the time of Hungary's first "democratic" government in the early 90s.
So whenever I "edit" something on Misplaced Pages I try to confine myself to some rather harmless minor corrections of misgivings that no one could really disaprove of.
In the end it all boils down to a fact that many people critical of Misplaced Pages have already noticed and deplored before: Misplaced Pages is a great idea but in most cases useful only if you look for information on topics that "no one cares about".
And to get even more general: All of Misplaced Pages's "rules" on things such as "objectivity", "neutrality" and "verifiability" are, of course, extremely questionable and ultimately illusionary. Beyond a certain point "objectivity" and "neutrality" become nothing but a chimera: for example, from the very first moment you start to interpret history, to mention some things but leave others out, to give "names" to "events" or to use "terms" and "concepts" that are per se highly "ideological" (and could never be any other way, like "democracy", "dictatorship", "free", "revolution" etc. etc.), you leave the space of a "neutral" and "objective" enumeration of "facts" (I doubt whether this is possible at all !) and step into nothing but the realm of per definitionem "political" and "ideological" evaluating, interpreting and reasoning. And it simply cannot be denied that on Misplaced Pages "neutral", "objective", "verifiable" and all those sublime concepts mean hardly anything else than "following the 'officially accepted', 'correct' Western (or Westernized) mainstream point of view as it is permanently presented in official science, the media, politics and so on" with a small spectrum of "tolerance" on both sides. Whenever there appear "deviations" from this trodden path of "mainstream correctness" they have little chance to "survive" long, get edited, deleted or branded with the label of "disputed neutrality".
In the case of Eastern Europe, for instance, some nationalist or even chauvinist nonsense gets easily accepted (as long as it goes against "the Russians", for example) but whenever a certain line is crossed that can no longer be "harmonized" with the overall mainstream framework, it gets deleted, altered or the dreaded "disputed neutrality" label. I mention this not because I want to defend nationalist views but only to show that Misplaced Pages's thin path of "correctness" knows not only "leftist" (as in my case) but also "rightist" deviations that are marginalized and fought against.
To come to an end: I do not want to "fight" all this - only very seldom, when I simply cannot bear some obvious error I step in and correct it or write a comment on a talk page as I did yesterday. But I believe it is perfectly legitimate to point out problems such as the ones I have mentioned in this comment. I just want all users to know that the internet (not to speak about all the other sources of information) is a vast space and knowledge on sensitive topics should not only be searched for on sites like Misplaced Pages.
I hope this explains why I will in all likelihood not go and rewrite the "Hungarian history" page completely but nevertheless would be glad to receive an answer from you.

DNA Microarray manufacturer's list
Take that list out!!! It will only lead to trouble for you... Can you add something like this: Today businesses relating to this technology include producing arrayers, making Arrays or Slides (including spotting them) and also synthesising Oligonucleotide/Probe sets for spotting on slides.
Create a external reference:

Indication of foreign words in English passages
I usually format foreign terms or names in italics, but when they are also accompanied by an English translation, I've taken to surrounding the translation with single quotation marks. This appears to be the normal practice in linguistics articles. I find that the single quotation marks are less obtrusive than double quotes, which reduces clutter when there are several foreign words and their translations together, and they serve to subtly distinguish translations from quotations. Thus, in AAA: Alianza Anticomunista Argentina ('Argentine Anticommunist Alliance' in Spanish).

Misplaced Pages:Abbreviation expansion
Awhile ago, you asked at Misplaced Pages talk:Abbreviation expansion#In support ... about the path to guideline/policy. I have a bit of time this weekend, and wanted advice. Every TfD and CfD about this proposed guideline has been resolved as keep, yet still several administrators are ignoring the long-standing concensus. Is this best raised on Misplaced Pages:Village pump (policy)? Is the best path ArbComm, or does one have to write a RFC first? I'm finding the consensus process has no teeth, other than ArbComm.

Thanks for supplying the info. I am amazed at the units "milligram/pound" – what an odd combination of SI and Imperial units. Wiktionary vs. Wiktionarypar template at Integrity
You reverted one of my recent changes on the Integrity article. I had changed {{wiktionarypar|Integrity}} to {{wiktionary|integrity}}. My reasoning for making this change was:
- article titles in wiktionary are now lowercase, which differs from wikipedia, in which the titles are upper case; therefore, linking to Wiktionary:Integrity redirects to Wiktionary:integrity. This means that {{wiktionarypar|Integrity}} points at a redirect in Wiktionary instead of an article.
- the wiktionary template was altered in the past few months to support piped parameters and, therefore, has rendered wiktionarypar redundant for most intents and purposes.
- {{wiktionarypar|Integrity}} is identical in effect to {{wiktionary}}, if in fact you intended to point at Wiktionary:Integrity instead of Wiktionary:integrity.
I would be interested to know the reasoning underlying your reversion of my edit. Regards, User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:20, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

letter combinations
During the discussion at Misplaced Pages:Redirects for deletion/Redirect Archives/June 2006, User:Kusma (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) mentioned: "If deleted, move back into main space? Or move all reference tables into Portal space?"
The Portal: space idea is novel to me, I'd never heard it mentioned before. Wouuld you find that acceptable?
The other possibility mentioned on my Talk was a proposed new Appendix: space, similar to that at Wiktionary. This is where Wiktionary moved their Appendix:List of two-letter combinations in December 2005.
