WWE Vengeance is an annual World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) event, which started in 2001 replacing WWE Armageddon for that year and eventually took over Fully Loaded's pay-per-view spot in 2002. In 2004, Venegance became a RAW exclusive pay-per-view event, even though in 2003 it was a SmackDown! event. In 2005, Vengeance was moved once again, this time switching positions with the Great American Bash.

2001

This event was held on December 9, 2001 at the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, California. The theme song was "Sinner" by Drowning Pool.

  • Albert pinned Christian after a Baldobomb
• Edge def. William Regal to retain the WWF Intercontinental Championship (9:06)

• Jeff Hardy def. Matt Hardy (12:30)
  • Lita was guest referee. Jeff pinned Matt after a Swanton Bomb.
• The Dudley Boyz def. Big Show & Kane to retain the WWF Tag Team Championships (6:50)
  • Bubba Ray Dudley pinned Big Show after a hotshot into the exposed turnbuckle.
• The Undertaker def. Rob Van Dam to win the WWE Hardcore Championship
  • Undertaker pinned RVD to win the title after a chokeslam off the stage through a set of tables.
• Trish Stratus def. Jacqueline to retain the WWF Women's Championship (3:34)
  • Trish pinned Jacqueline with a backslide.
• "Stone Cold" Steve Austin def. Kurt Angle to retain the WWF Championship (14:55)
  • Austin pinned Angle after a Stone Cold Stunner.
• Chris Jericho def. The Rock to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship (19:00)
  • Jericho pinned Rock after a Rock Bottom.
• Chris Jericho def. "Stone Cold" Steve Austin to win the WWF Championship and retain the WCW Championship in a Unification Match (12:31)
  • As a result, Jericho became the first ever WWF Undisputed Champion. Jericho pinned Austin after Booker T hit Austin with the belt.

The Undisputed Title tournament to close out the pay per view was the first championship tournament to take place since the 1998 Survivor Series. Stone Cold Steve Austin came up short in both tournaments losing to Mankind in 1998 and Chris Jericho in 2001.

2002

This event was held on July 21, 2002 in at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The theme song was "Downfall" by Trust Company.

  • Spike put Guerrero through a table with the Dudley Dog. (13:15)
  • Benoit tossed Spike over the top rope and through a table. (14:30)
  • Bubba Ray put Benoit through a table with the Bubba Bomb. (15:01)
• Jamie Noble def. Billy Kidman to retain the WWE Cruiserweight Championship (7:27)
  • Noble pinned Kidman after a Tiger Driver to retain the title.
• Jeff Hardy def. William Regal to retain the WWE European Championship (4:15)
  • Hardy pinned Regal with a rollup to retain the title.
• John Cena def. Chris Jericho (6:14)
  • Cena pinned Jericho after countering the Walls Of Jericho.
• Rob Van Dam def. Brock Lesnar by Disqualification to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship (9:39)
  • Lesnar was disqualified after Paul Heyman pulled the referee from the ring. RVD retains the title.

  • Booker T pinned Big Show after a Houston Hangover off of the top rope.

  • Storm pinned Hogan to win the titles after Chris Jericho hit Hogan with the belt.
• The Rock def. The Undertaker and Kurt Angle to win the WWE Undisputed Championship in a Triple Threat Match (19:47)
  • Rock pinned Angle after a Rock Bottom to win the title. Undertaker lost his title without getting pinned. The Rock set a WWE record with seven WWE Championship title reigns.

2003

This event was held on July 27, 2003 at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado. The theme song was "Price To Play" by Staind

• Eddie Guerrero def. Chris Benoit to win the vacant WWE United States Championship (21:54)
  • Guerrero pinned Benoit when Rhyno interfered and gored Benoit followed by a Frog Splash by Guerrero
• Jamie Noble def. Billy Gunn (4:59)
  • Noble pinned Gunn with a roll-up. As a result, Noble won the right to spend a night with Torrie Wilson.
• Bradshaw def. Shannon Moore, Doink The Clown, Faarooq, Brother Love, Nunzio, Matt Hardy, A-Train, Danny Basham, Doug Basham, The Easter Bunny, Sean O'Haire, John Hennigan, Orlando Jordan, Funaki, Los Conquistadores, Brooklyn Brawler, Johnny Stamboli, Chuck Palumbo, Matt Cappotelli and Spanky in the first-ever APA Invitational Bar Room Brawl
  • Bradshaw won the match when he leveled Brother Love with a beer can.

Note: This was the first SmackDown! brand exclusive pay-per-view, and it was also the first WWE PPV to use all blue ring ropes, like Smackdown's ropes. This was the second Vengeance in a row to have the main event be in a triple threat match. Neither have had the Champion walk out the winner. Kurt Angle has also been in both of those matches.

2004

  • Batista pinned Jericho after a Batista Bomb on Jericho. Also Jericho's foot was on the bottom rope during the pin.
• La Résistance def. Ric Flair & Eugene by Disqualification to retain the World Tag Team Championships (12:31)
  • Eugene was disqualified after shoving the referee.
• Matt Hardy def. Kane in a No Disqualification Match (10:33)
  • Matt pinned Kane after he hit Kane with a steel chair which riccocheted the steel steps off his face.
• Edge def. Randy Orton to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship (26:38)
  • Edge pinned Orton after a Spear.
• Victoria def. Molly Holly in a #1 Contenders Match (6:21)
  • Victoria pinned Molly after a Superkick.
• Chris Benoit def. Triple H to retain the World Heavyweight Championship (29:05)
  • Benoit pinned Triple H when Eugene accidentally hit Triple H with a steel chair.
  • This was the first time the World Heavyweight Title was on the line at a Vengeance PPV and the first time the WWE Title wasn't.
  • This was Triple H's Vengeance wrestling debut.

2005

The theme song was "Happy?" by Mudvayne. WWE Vengeance 2005 was the first and only Brand Exclusive PPV to feature both a WWE Championship and a World Heavyweight Championship match. WWE Vengeance 2005 was the last RAW PPV to feature a World Heavyweight Championship match as then-reigning World Heavyweight Champion Batista would get drafted to SmackDown! four days later.

  • Carlito pinned Benjamin after hitting him into an exposed turnbuckle.

  • Victoria pinned Christy after blocking a Sunset Flip and holding the ropes.
• The Godfather made his way to the ring immediately after Lilian Garcia had proposed to Viscera and convinced Viscera to leave with his hos (whores), abandoning a crying Garcia in the ring.
• Kane def. Edge (11:09)
  • Kane pinned Edge after Edge accidentally hit Gene Snitsky with Edge's briefcase, followed by a chokeslam by Kane.
• Shawn Michaels def. Kurt Angle (26:09)
  • HBK pinned Angle after Sweet Chin Music.
• John Cena def. Christian and Chris Jericho in a Triple Threat Match to retain the WWE Championship (15:19)
  • Cena pinned Christian after a FU.
• Batista def. Triple H in a Hell in a Cell match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship (26:58)
  • Batista pinned Triple H after a Spinebuster on the ring steps, followed by a Batista Bomb.
  • With this win, Batista became the first person to defeat Triple H in a one-on-one Hell in a Cell match.
