The term is used by the Irish police force, the ], to describe the legal boundaries of the Dublin division. For many years, this area covered the ] except the part of ] north of ]. This area was covered by the Meath Garda Division. The Dublin Metropolitan area also included the ] towns of ] ], and the ] towns of ], ], and ]. | |||
However, during 2008 the current Garda Divisions were realigned along county boundaries. It differentiates between which towns are considered ], and which are considered ]s. The area is considered as being from ] and ] in ] in the north to Greystones in County Wicklow in the south, and as far west as ] in County Kildare. This differs from the Gardaí's designation in that it stretches some 20 km further west. | |||
