It's weird because I hadn't looked at the Mick Jagger talk page at all, and I didn't know the same thing was being argued there. I never had a problem with it being too British sounding or anything like that. When I originally corrected it in 2012 I thought it was a grammar mistake. When you undid my edit then, I learned that it was the UK term and I moved on. What brought me back is when it was changed back to founder and the sentence with 4 rhymes in a row just sounded so horrible to me, I wanted to change it. Since it seems 'founding' is also used in the UK, it seems like a legitimate reason to make the sentence sound pretty good. Maybe Misplaced Pages isn't the place for attention to the aesthetics of the language, but I think the opening sentence and paragraph are important, and seemed like an easy fix. I have no problem with Keith Richards being a 'founder member' of the Rolling Stones, or Mick Jagger for that matter. They were British, so I suppose the language of the article should reflect that, but for the love of god, please let's rearrange or rewrite the whole sentence. Or use a different word. Looks like Mick Jagger is currently 'co-founder', which sounds stupid to me, but maybe there is something else.Chafinsky (talk) 03:13, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

I really don't care to get involved pursuing "genre warriors" any more. I will say, however, that the long standing consensus at Queen (band), as well as the articles covering their songs, is that "Rock" is sufficient as a genre for the infobox, e.g., Talk:Queen (band)/Archive 8#Rock Genre and here, as well. Chis & Sid house colours

Thanks - it was another editor who added the boxes and described the colours - all I did was try to improve the layout (not by much as it happens). note about Oxford spelling?

Hi Radiopathy, you referred to a note on the Beatles talk page – could you please direct me to that note/discussion? Have to say, I think Oxford English is an antiquated form that's not in common use in the UK/Britain, and hasn't been for a long, long while. I was hoping my edit would reopen this discussion. It was unilaterally decided by User: DocKino a few years ago that we would use Oxford spelling at The Beatles, John Lennon and Sex Pistols. I restructured my response to you to note that our article naming guidelines relevant to a colloquial/official dispute, WP:UCN and WP:OFFICIAL, explicitly states that "Misplaced Pages does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." Hey I went ahead and closed the move discussion, I do agree with you that the nominator did pester people about it, but I based it more on the fact that no consensus was reached, which is a requirement for an article to be moved. This Boy

By my "source" (singular) you mean "sources" (plural)... the one 'Beatles in Mono' specifically contains the quote "Lennon's early doo-wop experiments like This Boy" calling it a "doo-wop experiment" is to call it an "experiment" that is doo-wop. The others sources specifically mention that the song is written in the classic doo-wop 'I-vi-ii-V' structure. Now I am guessing that your strong point is probably not music theory (which I studied) but if a piece of music is written in a structure that is the "back-bone" of that genre then it fits into that genre (it is easy to look into this even on Misplaced Pages); whether or not it is a part of another genre due to structural similarities with other works in said genre is besides the point. 'Beat' isn't a genre in a classical sense but a musical movement that covered doo-wop, rock and roll, rhythm and blues et cetera.

And if you do not wish to be called a "troll" then learn to write why you are reverting a revision. Especially one that is referenced to at least three sources (maybe you should read up on them yourself!). Sigurd Dragon Slayer (talk) 01:09, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Edits on The Who: "County Fool" vs. "Misery"

I hope you'll edit The Who again to put it back to the "Misery" state. Me, I'm retiring after this tour of duty in the edit war.

I reinstated the edit at The Who that changes "County Fool" to "Misery", because of the evidence at Talk:The Who. The links didn't go anywhere for me, either; but I looked at the source text of the edit history and copy/pasted the URLs.

The URLs pointed to three YouTube videos, with audio for "Zoot Suit", "County Fool" and "Misery". There is no doubt even to the tinniest of ears that the "County Fool" edit is completely wrong, and that "Misery" is the correct source of the "Zoot Suit" music.

An IP editor (I assume the different IPs are the same editor) has taken a few cracks at correcting this information, which we've thwarted. They might have made it easier for everybody if they'd added comments to their edits, or perhaps provided a link to some evidence, or when they provided evidence on the talk page, used links that did something. Trust me, though. I jumped through that final hoop to get to the YouTube links and have no doubt that the editor is correct, and that the page currently has an error in it.

So again, I hope you'll take the step of reinstating the edit that the cluster of IPs has so valiantly tried to make to the article. They've been through a lot, hopefully learned a lot, and it would improve the accuracy of the article.

RE: Genesis (Not Helpful)

Exactly what was unhelpful about my edit on this page? Apparently there was never a choir arrangement for the song Let It Be. The song features backing (or rather harmony) vocals by George Harrison and John Lennon. Additional harmony vocal overdubs were provided by Linda McCartney under the supervision of Paul McCartney and George Martin.

re: Easy Action

Yeah, I figured out what was going on after I had already posted on your talk page, that's why I deleted the posting. It was a misunderstanding due to the link you put in having a syntax mistake and the message system showing me the page with that corrupted link again rather than showing that you had corrected it right after. I thought you were just undoing what I had done and redirecting the link back to Alice (solo) rather than Alice (band). The Alice Cooper band/solo situation is unique and will always cause confusion - I would suggest merging those two articles but I see that they were just split due to discussion. Oh well. Thanks for your help : )

Radiopathy, I'm sorry for locking horns just now. But really, if I make additions at three articles for an upcoming box set release, when "box set" is industry standard (right or wrong), and you then change each one to read "boxed set", well …

I'm sure there was a time when "long player" was unacceptable – when it should have been "long-playing record" – but terms are and always have been adopted, and dictionaries follow suit. If you want to take it up at the Box set article, then okay, but it's no good hitting each and every article that mentions a "b… set" and wondering why others disagree, surely? I wish you well, because I really don't have the energy to expend on this kind of thing. If it's wrong and you get it established at Box set that it's wrong, that's different.
