== Hey genius == | |||
How is saying that a person was scratched before receiving the Eucharist, as was reported/documented rather ubiquitously about the incident, in any way improper. (And trying to cite a non-religious source----the article that I cited actually chalks all the events up to purely natural phenomena, yet you accuse me of citing a religious article Einstein) You libs have totalitarian blood running through your wimpy, shrivelled, little veins. The irony is that half of the critiques allowed to remain on the page are rampant speculation, and yet they are allowed to stay. Also, why is pointing out that one author mentioned in the article is an atheist, improper? | |||
Not a fair bone in your body... Misplaced Pages editors allow their passions to control their actions in about the same way as chimps or dogs. Being a proper human means allowing your intellect to dominate your passions, not vice versa. This is why Plato says most men live lives fit for beasts. Enjoy trying to fill the God-sized hole in your life with mindless, empty distractions and another 65(or so) years of procrastination, hoarding dust. <span style="font-size: smaller;" class="autosigned">— Preceding ] comment added by ] (]) 03:38, 23 September 2014 (UTC)</span><!-- Template:Unsigned IP --> <!--Autosigned by SineBot--> |

Hello, Philg88 - I just happened to notice your perfect score of support for administratorship. Congratulations for that, I'm sure you'll do a fine job. Cheers - John

- @Sphilbrick: Always nice to see a message from a fellow map enthusiast, especially one like this. Sorry to see that no one has picked up your map request for US regions at the map lab. I'm a bit tied up at the moment getting to grips with the tools, but I haven't forgotten our conversation - maybe next week? Best, Philg88 16:12, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
To repeat what I said on another talk page, I missed the excitement on your coming into what you called your "janitorial" duties, so belated but lively congrats and hopes that like Janus, the namesake of janitors, you will happily look after beginnings and doors and portals for a long, long time! ch (talk) 20:43, 23 August 2014 (UTC)

Congratulations. I couldn't comment in support on your RfA, but good work with your 100% supports. We really need more people like you editing pages about Hong Kong and China. Wield the mop with caution. Good luck! Epicgenius (talk) 01:11, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 24
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
- Flying car (aircraft)
- added a link pointing to Flying car
- Outline of transport
- added a link pointing to Flying car
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:21, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- That, my dear DPL Bot, is because Flying car is a disambiguation page. Philg88 09:36, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- The bot picked up these links because you removed the piping of the links through Flying car (disambiguation). This is done (per WP:INTDABLINK) so that those of us at WP:DPL who fix disambiguation links know that the links are intentional. -Niceguyedc 09:49, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- Many thanks for that, Niceguyedc. So is "Flying car" OK as it stands or do I need to do something else? Cheers, Philg88 10:43, 24 August 2014 (UTC)
- Not at all. I've already set the hatnotes back to pipe through the (disambiguation) redirect, so these links are fixed (the bot will be happy :) ). -Niceguyedc 10:44, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

Hello my friend, how is life as an exalted being treating you? Have you come to terms with your new tasks and tools, and most important: Is it fun? :) I'm moving along quite nicely with my usual articles. Still having a hard time sorting out who did what in the Grill family. Sources are not always too clear on the subject, so everything has to be tripple checked. It's pioneering work since no one has ever bothered to do this before, which feels a bit special. Anyway, fact of the day: The largest archive with all the 7,000 documents from Jean Abraham, was originally not digitized on behalf of the Swedes. Nope! It was done in 2003–2005 at a request from the Macao Historical Archives. The Swedish website is just a nice byproduct from this work. So, maybe some of the documents are more available to you at the Macao site. I've been looking around at their very large website but not found them. Maybe you have better luck. They might be hidden away behind some Chinese characters. :) Just thought I'd mention the whole thing. All the best, w.carter-Talk 20:53, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hey kompis "Exhausted" would be a better word than "exalted". So much more to do—never mind the copyedit on Lucknow, which has taken the best part of two days. Aside from that, all is good. In terms of content, my focus right now is on Dzungaria and related matters; a fascinating part of East Asian history of which little is known in the west. Apart from improvements to the existing content, there are perhaps a further 20 articles that need creating. As you can imagine, that will take some time (particularly given the sopkvast thing) so it will be a while before I get back to the trading stuff. BTW, if you're so inclined, drop me an email. It's about time we opened that channel of communication. Best as always, Philg88 21:20, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- Just take care you don't wear yourself out! It's easy to do when things are new and interesting. So, we're each stuck with huge projects. An loving it, at least I am. I might be done by the time you have your 20 articles. And I'll certainly try the email thing, never done it here on the Wiki though, but I'll figure it out. Oh, and JB is just getting some very competent ce. I thought I could just drop it in the GAN line to take that load of your back. The Plan did not include the sopkvast at the time of hatching. :) One has to be flexible. Now go get some sleep. Cheers, w.carter-Talk 21:46, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- If you could drop it in the GAN queue that would be good. If no one picks it up within a reasonable period, let me know and I'll do it. Cheers, Philg88 19:05, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

IRC cloak request
Hello Philg88,
you or somebody pretending to be you filed a request for a wikimedia IRC cloak. However we have not received a valid diff. A valid diff has to be in one's own userspace and contain "IRC cloak request" as its summary. Please contact me on metawiki with a link to such a diff if you wish your request to be processed. Hi Phil unfortunately your guideline that you sent me didn't answer my question. I really appreciate your help :) <3 —Flora786 (talk • contribs) 18:30, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Flora and thanks for the message. I'm sorry that the guideline didn't help you. The message you recieved about a "peacock" term means is that you used a word in an article that is designed to promote something without really adding anything useful to the encyclopedia. Words like great, leading, celebrated, award-winning, famous, renowned, remarkable, prestigious and world-class are considered "peacock terms" and they shouldn't be used in Misplaced Pages articles. I hope that answers your question, but if not please feel free to come back. And if you have any more questions, come back and ask those too! Cheers, Philg88 19:03, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- p.s. don't forget to sign with four tildes (~~~~) when you leave a message on a talk page.
- Sorry, I didn't know the discussion was going on here as well. My mistake, w.carter-Talk 19:38, 26 August 2014 (UTC) (aka Calamity Jane)
- Don't be silly W.carter. Replying at the Teahouse wasn't a mistake and you don't need to apologise. The fact that Flora has both of us trying to help her is a good thing. :) Cheers, Philg88 19:45, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Hi and thanks so much Phil! I now understand and i will try not to repeat that mistake. It did answer my question.
- It's fine W.carter. Replying here is absolutely helpful. I appreciate your help! Please feel free to join in our discussion. :) Flora786 (talk) 13:59, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
Old town
Your question at WP:RMTR prompted some reflection. The entries in the Old town list weren't very satisfying, because it's not obvious from going to the linked articles how the reader would find the old-town content. In fact the German article at de:Liste von Städten mit historischem Stadtkern is more convincing. There is an even better one (limited to Germany itself) at de:Liste von Städten mit historischem Stadtkern in Deutschland. This is an issue of article content I guess so that's a job for Some Other Editor to improve the English article. On the other hand, there are a few things like Old Town Historic District for the USA. EdJohnston (talk) 19:34, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the input Ed. I went ahead and moved the article as requested given that the sentence case version is a collective rather than a proper noun. I also gave it some more thought and left a message on the original requester's talk page suggesting that a move to List of old towns by country might be appropriate. That fits in with the German idea of de:Liste von Städten mit historischem Stadtkern in Deutschland but on a global scale—although German grammar is different and they would capitalise Städ/Städten regardless of its noun status (I think). Cheers, Philg88 20:04, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- It looks like you were right to perform the move. The Germans are safe from our capitalization disputes owing to their language! Sorry I was on vacation during your RfA; I missed my chance to support. EdJohnston (talk) 20:46, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, although German grammar is much stricter and would make our lives here easier sometimes, I like the flexibility English gives us. I hope you enjoyed your vacation. Best, Philg88 21:00, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

I have removed the tag you added to the article because I disagree that it should be there if there are multiple reliable sources there already. While you may feel the subject is not notable, I would at least think you would not tag if there are several reliable sources already. But I will not edit war if you choose to put it back.--Mark Miller (talk) 08:29, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Mark and thanks for the message. I didn't add the tag lightly - here is a run through of the references 1) is a blog called GirlGeek while 2,3,4 and 5 are passing mentions in filmographies or trivia books, i.e. insufficient to establish notability. I'm not going to edit war either, but I suggest you move it into the Draft space before somebody puts an AfD tag on it. Cheers, Philg88 08:40, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- Nah, I won't draft it. I was attempting to fix the issues that were there earlier when the subject had been attempting to edit and noticed due to their post on the Teahouse. It does look like the Geek Girl World source is a magazine blog, akin to a Forbes magazine blog. I should add attribution in the text for it, unless you think the reputation of the magazine would not allow its use for lack of fact checking, editorial oversite etc.. I think you convinced me to re-add the tag. :-)--Mark Miller (talk) 08:59, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Mark Miller: Me? try and convince you? Never! -:) . Cheers, Philg88 09:05, 27 August 2014 (UTC)

Radical Islam in Australia
Hi there,
I'd like to discuss the deletion of Radical Islam in Australia and request immediate un-deletion:
- 1. The article in question received a number of "delete" votes prior to article expansion including a large number of edits affecting the articles coverage, tone and structure. Had the vote taken place after this significant changes were made, the result would have been in favour of "keep."
- 2. Voters who requested deletion did not respond to arguments in favour of "keep."
- 2.1. Arguments were made for keeping the page (e.g. why the article topic was valid, etc.). This arguments were not discussed prior to deletion.
- 2.2. Arguments made for "delete" received comments and responses which pointed to logical flaws in citing particular WP policies as cause for deletion (e.g. WP:Fork). It was argued that these policies do not apply to the article under discussion. No response or further discussion was made.
- 3. The final cause for deletion was not specified. This is especially concerning as WP policies cited as reasons for deletion may have been irrelevant to the discussion or not sufficiently demonstrated how they applied in this case.
Thank you, I.am.a.qwerty (talk) 15:01, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi I.am.a.qwerty and thanks for the message. The reason for the deletion was that there was a strong consensus in favour of that outcome for the reasons stated in the deletion arguments, i.e. that the article was a WP:POVFORK of Islam in Australia. That is why I commented in the close that a section could be created in that article if there was consensus to do so.
- If you believe that I misinterpreted the concensus to delete then you are of course free to take the matter to deletion review, but you should note that no article is exempt from Misplaced Pages policies. Cheers, Philg88 15:38, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Where can I view the article as it was prior to deletion? Can you retrieve it? I.am.a.qwerty (talk) 16:14, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- @I.am.a.qwerty: Unfortunately not. Requests for undeletion is limited to AfD debates with little or no participation other than the nominator, which was not the case here. As I said above, the next stage is taking it to deletion review. Philg88 16:33, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- Can you please do a temp undelete so I can archive the last version of the article?I.am.a.qwerty (talk) 17:18, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
- @I.am.a.qwerty: AFAIK, the only situation where {{TempUndelete}} can be used is as part of the DRV process that I've linked to twice above. Cheers, Philg88 18:21, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

- Well done on your first DRV. If you're not dragged there every now and then you're not doing it right :) --Mkativerata (talk) 08:17, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Mkativerata, your support is appreciated. By definition many decisions at AfD won't please everyone but the guiding principle, as well you know, is consensus. Individuals may not like a particular consensus but it demonstrates the policy based will of the community and is therefore in the best interests of the encyclopedia. In this case, I considered the reason for deletion fairly obvious but in future, for the avoidance of doubt, you will always find me providing a closing summary of the consensus based decision. DYK for Henry Lansdell
On 29 August 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Henry Lansdell, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Henry Lansdell (pictured) distributed multi-lingual religious tracts and Bibles in hospitals and prisons in Siberia and central Asia? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Henry Lansdell. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

- Hi there Fantasy Lover 16 and thanks for your message! First of all, Welcome to Misplaced Pages. It can look a bit confusing at first but I'm sure that you'll soon get the hang of it. I've left a table of useful links to things that might help on your talk page (which you can get to by clicking here). Again, welcome and if you have any questions please feel free to come back and ask them; you may also find the Teahouse a useful place to learn more. Philg88 17:25, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
Yes! Having trouble moving page
I am having trouble, so thank you for offering assistance! All I need to do is change the title from Saint Mark's School to Mark Day School. New articles of incorporation were filed in July 2014, so the move is uncontroversial.
I have tried numerous times to enter the necessary code snippet with the information filled in into the Technical Move request field but I keep getting errors.
I have only 9 edits so I am not yet an autoconfirmed user. Thank you for any advice or assistance you can offer. Skylions (talk) 18:37, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Skylions: Hi there! I've moved the page as requested - you may like to add a reference to the article confirming the change of name in case anyone gets confused. I think you already know this but once you are autoconfirmed, which will happen in 6 days or if you reach 500 edits before then :), you will be able to move pages yourself, except where there is a redirect in the way or for some other reason - in such cases you will need help from an admin. Good luck with what I hope will be a long career editing Misplaced Pages! Cheers, Philg88 18:59, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS QUICK FIX. I really, really appreciate your assistance. Skylions (talk) 20:43, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi Phil, congratulations on your successful RfA! Sorry I've been away and missed !voting on your nomination. I have no doubt that you'll make an excellent admin, just don't let your administrative duties take too much time away from writing articles and making maps :) -Zanhe (talk) 06:10, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you my friend, good to hear from you. So far I'm keeping the content flowing without interference from the mop. Amursana is the latest of the Dzungaria articles and there will be more maps in that context. I just hope Xi Jinping doesn't follow Qianlong's example in resolving the present Xinjiang problem. Cheers, Philg88 06:23, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

Your experience with Teahouse
Hello Philg88,
I am working on a project to support the development of current and future newcomer mentorship programs on Misplaced Pages.
Because you recently participated in the Teahouse, I would like to interview you about your experience in this program.
If you are interested, please email me at gmugar syr.edu and hopefully we can find a convenient time to conduct an interview via Skype or Google hangout.
Thanks,

User Page
Thank you for the reply regarding creating a profile on Misplaced Pages. I do not want to use Misplaced Pages as a webhost but instead would like to create a decent user page. What I meant was is there a link on Misplaced Pages where I can add templates to my user name page? Thanks again. Conspirasee1 (talk) 06:37, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Conspirasee1 and thanks for the message. Apologies for the misunderstanding but whenever I see the word "Profile", I think Facebook, Linked-in etc, which is not permitted here. Making a nice-looking user page requires a reasonable knowledge of Wikimarkup language and cascading style sheets but you can create the basics using Userboxes and other templates. The easiest way to get to know your way around this is to look at (don't change!) the source code to other user pages so you get to understand how it all fits together. Because everything on Misplaced Pages is released by its author for use on Misplaced Pages, you are quite free to shamelessly plagiarize other user's work to put something together. Bear in mind the overall guidelines on what you may and may not have on your user page are explained here Good luck! Cheers, Philg88 06:50, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Talk: Amanda Eliasch
Hi, Could you take another look at the {{oldafd}} you added to Talk:Amanda Eliasch with this edit . For some reason "disscussion" is linking to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Amanda Eliasch and not to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Amanda Eliasch (2nd nomination). I'm still fairly new to Misplaced Pages, so I'm not sure how to fix that or if I'm even supposed to try and fix that. Thanks in advance. - Marchjuly (talk) 09:41, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Marchjuly and thanks for the message. I've fixed up the link so it should all make sense now. Cheers, Philg88 09:50, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the time to look at it again. Maybe I could've fixed it myself, but I wasn't sure and didn't want to do anything improper. For some reason, that particular page seems to be generating lots of heat, at least more than I it should, and didn't want to do anything that would accidentally add a little fuel to that fire. - Marchjuly (talk) 21:28, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, Marchjuly, the article does seem be the focus for a lot of emotive editing. I'll try to keep an eye on it but if anything happens that you think I should know about, please feel free to let me know. Cheers, Philg88 04:57, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
Script
Hiya Phil, it looks like you started doing adminstrative works. Good. I saw some of your Afd closures. Do you use the close Afd script?? If yes then never ever forget to recheck your closures. I have used it before while doing non admin closures. I have faced some bugs. In some cases it doesn't remove the second relisted category (Although Legobot removes it if missed), doesn't add signatures and many others. I now close Afds manually although it takes sometime but it's safe. Btw do you use this script. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 12:48, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Jim Cartar: I know you are only trying to help ... but ... Yes, the Afd closing script has some bugs and yes, something does occasionally slip through, as is shown in the foregoing section. That is the correct way to point out that something is amiss, not to tell me to "never ever forget" to recheck my closures or do it manually as if I have no idea what I'm doing. Philg88 16:02, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- No no don't take it that way I was telling it on humourous way. Don't take it otherwise. I was actually comming here to introduce another script which I have mentioned above. I obviously know that you do things perfectly. I just expressed how I feel using that script. I'm sorry if it hurted you, I don't have any intension to hurt. Sorry again. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 20:22, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Jim Cartar: I don't want you to be sorry, I want you to consider how the recipient of one of your messages might read it, despite what you may think it means, humourous or otherwise. Now forget about it and let's move on. As you know, I've made my thoughts clear on what I think about the script you mention above on the author's talk page. Let me precis my views here: a) I wouldn't like to see it used. 2) I wouldn't want to see it improved. I hope that's clear. Cheers, Philg88 05:14, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
- Okay. I just wanted to hear from you if I should use it or not. The moment you posted the message on the author's talk page, I started digging into the history of that script and soon I discovered that it is an outdated script. Sorry again. Your comment at UAA notwithstanding, I blocked the account because with a name like that, promotional intent is easily inferred regardless of the actual content of the edit. Also, it implies shared use for that purpose. Daniel Case (talk) 15:33, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: Thanks Daniel. I would have done the same but as a "newbie" I felt that a comment might be better rather than a block by me at this stage. Now I know that it should have been blocked and I appreciate you taking the time to explain. Best, Philg88 16:08, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
LaPorte CPA and Business Advisors
Hi Philg88,
Thanks for the feedback regarding the Laporte Wiki you edited. I noticed you declined the posting, but I wanted to mention first that Laporte is one of the largest CPA and consulting firms in the lower Gulf States. I am just starting out as an editor, specializing in Finance and Accounting firms in the South and Southwest United States. I have an MBA in finance and my interest is in maintaining the integrity of information written about such financial institutions. Most of the sources I provided on the Laporte Wiki are major/ notable national accounting publications of which Laporte has been mentioned in several times a year. If you could provide me some more feedback on what more I need to include that would be great. I feel I have done a good job in my research on this company, but would feel more confortable having it open to the public for editing as well. IF possible could we make this page go live so that the public can add in additional information? Thanks so much for all your help. Let me know if you have any questions! Here is the link to the site.

- Hi 65.38.99.229 and thanks for the message. As I said at the review page, you need to show significant coverage of the firm in independent reliable sources to establish that LaPorte CPA and Business Advisors meets the requisite notability criteria for a Misplaced Pages article.
- To save you from a long and rambling dissertation on notability, I'm going to quote another editor's comment left on the draft. "Just being around for a long time and being well liked does not establish notability. If it did my Mom would have an article."
- Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, not the Yellow Pages. Unless you can show that the firm meets the requirements shown above, then I'm afraid there is no possibility of its inclusion. Best, Philg88 05:29, 7 September 2014 (UTC)
-- Hi Philg88,
Thanks for the quick response. I have read the Misplaced Pages page on Notability (Misplaced Pages:Notability (organizations and companies) and would like to point out that primary criteria for a company/ organization to be deemed notable is based on the following definition. "A company, corporation, organization, school, team, religion, group, product, or service is notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in secondary sources. Such sources must be reliable, and independent of the subject. A single independent source is almost never sufficient for demonstrating the notability of an organization." LaPorte does meet this definition because it has been the subject of significant coverage year after year in many of the popular and notable accounting magazines such as Accounting Today See Accounting_Today and Source Media, SourceMedia. All sources on the LaPorte page are reliable are accurate and completely independent of the subject matter at hand. In addition many other large publishers like the Houston Business Journal, See wiki American City Business Journals, have also covered LaPorte extensively over the years. Let me know if I am missing something, but I do feel that given the definitions on Notability, that LaPorte does deserve the right to be published. Thanks for all your help. 65.38.99.229 (talk) 19:02, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi there 65.38.99.229. Putting notability discussions aside for a moment, I have to ask you whether you are being paid for your "advocacy" of this article? You do not seem to have made a single edit to what is, putting it bluntly, hardly the Misplaced Pages article most likely to set the world on fire. Do you also edit as Wiki-edit-king, the creator of the article in question? How come you have "done a good job in my research on this company" if you haven't contributed to its article? While paid editing is allowed on Misplaced Pages, it is strongly discouraged and should be declared. Philg88 05:47, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hello 65.38.99.229, You have claimed notability for the company as having received "significant coverage" but you have overlooked the section Depth of Coverage which describes what does not qualify as significant. Please provide actual references (not just names of publications and claims that coverage exists) that show significant coverage and not just inclusion in "Best of" and "Top Places" lists. Thanks for your continued interest in improving Misplaced Pages. — Bill W. (Talk) (Contrib) (User:Wtwilson3) — 13:07, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

I have pinged Ekabhishek, and Philg88 on their talk page with this same message for participation request. Regards. --AmritasyaPutra✍ 07:12, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your message re: Conflict of Interest
Hello :-) Thank you so much for your message. I am just sitting here with my husband Paul and son Jake considering what to do about Paul (and Jake's) wikipedia entry and the advice that the wiki editor gurus have so kindly given. It's pretty difficult for an individual to cite things like 'we are not divorced'. One can't produce a 'not divorced' certificate and anyway, this stuff is private and you shouldn't have to argue with strangers about the details of your own lives, especially as the source for the misinformation wasn't cited in the first place and can't be because it was made up in the first place. Do you see what I mean? As I have said, the most annoying thing is the way that journalists repeat the mistakes all the time. A few years ago, when it said, for instance, that Paul was born in Surrey and played cricket for the county team we thought it was funny and if a newspaper repeated it we thought, haha, you obviously don't know us. I edited it out a few years ago and no one said anything or replaced it. Where do people get their ideas from? Crazy. Thanks for your contact. I hope to contribute to wikipedia in a positive way. Is there a list of pages that need basic editing that I could help sort out? I edit all kinds of writing for a living so I promise I'll do it properly.
Thanks again for your time Annie

On/off script
Hey! I just installed the script for "OneClickArchiver", it's about time I learn how to archive things myself instead of bugging others. And it's a script. :) It works just fine and I was able to paste in the counter at Einar and all. But, is it ok to uninstall the script when it is not needed and install it again when I do? I don't need it that often and I noticed a problem for me with it. I don't use a mouse, I use a pen tablet, and when I scroll using the scroll bar, it is dangerously close to the "Archive" clickables and I don't want to archive anything by mistake! Archiving is not reversible, right? Or? Cheers, w.carter-Talk 21:50, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hey Kompis. Let me answer the question backwards for no reason other than I want to. Archiving can be undone (as can anything on Misplaced Pages) but in some cases you would have to do it manually rather than revert when there is history in between the archiving and restoration. In other words it's best avoided as things can go terribly wrong, particularly if your middle name is Calamity :). To enable/disable OneClick Archiver just comment/uncomment at the start of the appropriate line using //. Cheers, Philg88 05:43, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- Phew! Much more comfortable. You are quite right, with a name like this it's better to tread carefully. :) Best, w.carter-Talk 07:18, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Copy of deleted article
Hello,
Would it be possible to obtain a copy of the article "Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors," which was recently deleted (in the last 24 hours)? I wish to continue slowly working on the article in order to make it acceptable for Misplaced Pages. There wasn't mush content, but I still wish to have a copy of those pieces.
Thank you,
--Jelly Bean MD (talk) 03:00, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Jelly Bean MD. Sure, I can email you a copy of the last version of the article prior to its deletion. First off though, you will need to set up an email address for your Misplaced Pages account. If you click on the "Preferences" option in the top menubar then scroll down to the bottom of the displayed page, you will see an option to set up email. Let me know when you've done that and I'll send you the text. Cheers, Philg88 05:33, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the instructions; I successfully added and confirmed my email account. --Jelly Bean MD (talk) 22:21, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm new so I don't know how else to thank but I very much appreciated your input on my recent question. --Wakeman60438 (talk) 15:35, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
- You're welcome, Wakeman60438. Misplaced Pages is a pretty friendly place and we do try to help new people find their way around. At first it can seem a pretty daunting as there all sorts of things to remember. That will pass, I assure you, and you'll soon be diving in to edit pages without a second thought. In the meantime, if you have any questions, however trivial they may seem, feel free to ask them here or at the Teahouse. Cheers, Philg88 16:02, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Sarawak/Malaysia
Hi
I saw your reverts there. I don't know how much you know about this issue, but it's a "perennial" which flares up on Malaysia articles with IPs, SPAs etc promoting the POV that Malaysia was formed as Malaya + Sarawak + Sabah + Singapore, and not 14 states, so Sabah/Sarawak should be seen as more "important" or equal status to the mainland. They feel they got the shitty end of the stick, and perhaps they even did... But they feel very strongly, and they have a little rush at this every so often. One user Omdo, got himself indeffed over it. It's messy - you can see some explanation at Talk:Malaysia/Archive_4#Malaysia_or_Federation_of_Malaysia. It's been going on a long time.
Sorry if you already knew this (and sorry I missed your RFA, too, by the way - you would have had my vote - glad you didn't need it...) Begoon 15:44, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up Begoon. Yes, I've seen this one time before and we're obviously in for another round. I blame the British :) Prof. Khoo is probably the newly registered IP. Will they win? I doubt it. Best, Philg88 15:55, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- Oddly enough, I blame the British, too, for leaving a mess - and I am British, though my defence is firstly that I wasn't alive at the time (just), and secondly I 'escaped' to Australia 15 years ago. Professor Khoo may bring some 'friends', who knows? Deja vu... Take care. Begoon 16:02, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

Back in the day, I actually tried a bit to get them to work with us, to give some better representation to their point of view in the articles, but I think that was less interesting, or less "fun" than disruptive activism for the cause. Shame, we could have had better articles, and they could have been more widely "heard". You can lead a horse... Begoon 16:40, 12 September 2014 (UTC)
- Indeed my friend, 'tis sad when people are blinkered. Fortunately, I was born about 700 miles from Sarawak so I'm pretty familiar with the history and geopolitics of the region. Best, Philg88 07:28, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Could you provide me your feedback/suggestion on the overhaul of Vidya Bharati
I see that you are an expert GOCE, I started on Vidya Bharati article as part of GOCE but discovered that it is full of POV and copyvio and did not have even a single reference(there were few totally irrelevant ones). And I asked you to test my script atleast for once so that I can confirm that it is working properly on English Misplaced Pages. I have tested it on Test Misplaced Pages too. Actually until now I'm the only one to use the script, here and on Welsh Misplaced Pages. Now, I will not force you to test it, if you wish you can test it. South Horizons nomination for AfD
Curious why you nominated it for AfD. It is a long page with a lot of content. Have you nominated other HKG housing estates for AfD as well? Jtbobwaysf (talk) 09:46, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Jtbobwaysf and thanks for the question. The "content" you mention is travel guide/gazeteer stuff that doesn't belong in Misplaced Pages in the first place on the basis that the encyclopedia is not a travel guide. Some private estates have been boldly merged - this one is the only one I have Afd'ed purely because another editor has recently added content and Afd is the best way to handle such a situation. I have made a similar comment to this one at the AfD itself. Cheers, Philg88 09:59, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
User talk:Notwillywanka
Fortunately I noticed your ping (although it's not working, since my full username is BullRangifer). I can see what you mean. We'd want the block notification in the history. Can the histories be merged now and the move made? That would include the history of the notification, wouldn't it? -- Brangifer (talk) 18:09, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- It appears things are happening on several fronts. See here: User_talk:Safiel#User_talk:Notwillywanka_and_User_talk:Notwillywanka.2Fdelete -- Brangifer (talk) 18:22, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- @BullRangifer: Sorry about the malformed ping earlier. The Notwillywanka thing isn't really a big deal. Now that Safiel has moved the previous "delete" page to a talk archive, we're in the same position as we would have been had I merged the history then archived the old talk posts. There is no need for further housekeeping in that area while I've left a message on Notwillywanka's talk page asking him to request a change of name to User:NotWillyWonka. Connections
Hi! Re prev conversation about finding awesome stuff, I was wrapping up the editing session by fixing the section of one if the lesser Grills Draft:Grill (family)#Claes Grill (II), not much written about him in Swedish sources anywhere. But through a site which compiles the history of Gothenburg, I ended up with the first real connection between the Grill's (and thereby the SOIC) and the East India Company! Through intermediary companies the SOIC was in fact selling iron to the East India Company. See this. Connected to all of this is the passport of Grill & sons that I showed you when all this started. In the description at the Gothenburg Library data base it is stated as "unknown". It is listed under "Claes Grill" but it is mixed up since they seem oblivious about the fact that there were two guys with the same name. They haven't made the connection!! Anyway, this is a primary source and good for nothing but a nifty illustration, but just knowing you have found out something new is...wow. There is also a second firm called "Harrison & Grill" (London area is presumed) involved, but I cannot find any reliable sources about it. Do you have access to some "hidden", British, data base where it can be checked out?
At the same time I also stumbled upon The History of Tea Smuggling from Gothenburg to England = four(!) more books. Turns out that of all the tea Sweden imported from Canton, sometimes only about 10% stayed in Sweden. About half of the rest was exported legally to the rest of Europe and the last part (45%) was smuggled from Gothenburg to Scotland and on to England. Phew! "Insignificant Grill", mon derrière... Cheers, w.carter-Talk 21:18, 15 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi W.carter. Interesting stuff! I searched the British Newspaper Archive for Harrison & Grill (and various permutations thereof) but found nothing. Poking around Google books I found this in a book on China Trade Porcelain which shows the early connection between the SOIC and the EIC as well as having some nice details on the Grills.
- According to this source, "great quantities" of tea were smuggled into England by the Danes and Swedes between 1734 and 1744. Now, Colin Campbell's first SOIC expedition to Canton returned to Gotenburg towards the end of 1733 and the next year there was a massive increase in the amount of tea smuggled into England. Coincidence? I think not. Were the EIC complicit? Highly likely. All we need to do now is prove it :). Cheers, Philg88 05:14, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Please protect 2014–15 Liga I
I made a request to WP:RFPP since yesterday but there is no action so far... User:FCSTEAUABUCURESTISA also broke 3RR rule (see https://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Edit_warring#User:FCSTEAUABUCURESTISA_reported_by_User:Shocate_.28Result:_.29). Me and User:Eddie Nixon are having serious problems with him. Shocate (talk) 08:44, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Shocate and thanks for the message. This appears to be a content dispute and since FCSTEAUABUCURESTISA is arguing his case I don't think page protection is going to move things forward. If edit warring is involved, you can report it at the appropriate noticeboard but it might be better to start off with a talk page discussion. Cheers, Philg88 09:26, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
Draft:Kill Yourself Save the Planet, Islamic perspective
I have find that you deleted my Draftsbox, I was trying to mend it to resubmit it or to paste as a criticism, Now how can I retrive the data which I had posted ? Thanks Waqar Ali Mumtaz Mohammad (talk) 14:20, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Waqar Ali Mumtaz Mohammad: Your draft was deleted because it was a copyright violation. Misplaced Pages does not permit any material in which the copyright does not belong to the purported author. Sorry, but in short, you can't retrieve the data. Philg88 14:45, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Sutton twin towns mural
While I can't argue about the votecount, it would be helpful if a closing admin indicated whether the arguments have any merit policy-wise, when an AfD has been debated like this one. Misplaced Pages:Deletion guidelines for administrators makes it clear that "Consensus is not determined by counting heads, but by looking at strength of argument, and underlying policy (if any). Arguments that contradict policy, are based on opinion rather than fact, or are logically fallacious, are frequently discounted. " It would have been nice to get some indication of why you closed this as keep in the closing statement. Fram (talk) 06:53, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry if you feel I should have provided a detailed rationale for the close, Fram rather than the "Strong consensus to keep" I provided. Under Misplaced Pages guidelines there is no onus on the closer to provide such a rationale, the key issue being that the closer weighs the consensus and decides on the outcome. In this case, I don't think there was any question as to the will of the community being in favour of keeping the article. You are of course welcome to take the outcome to deletion review should you disagree. Cheers Philg88 07:25, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
- So you totally ignored what I said (at the AfD together with Bencherlite, and here). The "will of the community" is not relevant if it is based on bogus arguments like "persistence" for sources spanning three days, "there probably are other sources", or "but it's the summer of monuments". It is your task to ignore the pure votecount and look at the strength of arguments. Fram (talk) 07:34, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Fram:I haven't ignored what you said and I think I've made my position quite clear above—in my view there was a strong consensus to keep the article. Should you believe that I misjudged that, deletion review is the way to go. Philg88 04:50, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Promotional username and edits
Hi Phil. You soft-blocked Fuelexperts as obviously promotional. Rather than reading your message and getting a new (non-promotional) username, the same editor is now block-evading as ((User:VRC Fuelexperts Ltd)) (intentionally unlinked) - posting on my own talk page about the deletion of the original user page. Their suggestions may have merit with regard to the article in question (though their only actual contribution to date has been to add spam links) but we can't even start down that path while everything else is going on. Can you maybe hard-block the new account and direct them back to their original account and options for amending usernames? I'll hat the discussion on my talk page and move relevant commentary to the article talk page under whatever new username they pick. Appreciated your help, thanks! St★lwart 07:42, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Stalwart111 and thanks for the heads up. I have blocked for block evasion but I think it's more a question of the user not understanding the rules rather than a deliberate attempt to flout them. That said, it ain't allowed. Please prod the user in the direction of requesting a user name change against the original softblock. I will do the same on their talk page after I place the block notice. Cheers, Philg88 07:54, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- Agree 100% - I think most of it is a lack of understanding. Thanks for taking the first step - hopefully they will come back to their original account and pick a different name. St★lwart 22:48, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Hit the Deck (1955 film)
Hi. Please would you look at the latest edit on this page. Many thanks. Lugnuts 09:01, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm. Thanks for the message but I have no intention of getting involved in an edit war over the article style. I'm at a loss to see how we move forward on this since all dissenting views seem to be ignored or dismissed on sight. Philg88 09:11, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- What about the issue of a clear violation of WP:3RR? Lugnuts 09:16, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- Without trying to duck the issue, I'm arguably involved here and can't act in an admin capacity. WP:AN3 would seem the logical place to report the situation. Philg88 09:39, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks Phil. For info. Lugnuts 10:01, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Lugnuts: Thanks for the update. A minor point but per your AN3 posting I didn't say "4 different editor's posts being removed", I said that the "Improve the encyclopedia, don't spend your time on trivialities which only increase the bureaucratic load which content editors have to put up with" comment was "a reflection on the views of the three editors (four if you include Lugnuts whose post has been removed) who have questioned your actions". Apologies for the pedantry. Philg88 15:04, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- @Lugnuts: Looks like things are moving forward in a positive way. Please let me know when the RfC surfaces. Cheers, Philg88 12:00, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Something is awry
Hello P. Thanks for moving the Lon Chaney article. I have wanted that for many years. One thing though - the talk page that was at the Lon Chaney (Sr) article did not get moved properly. As you can see Talk:Lon Chaney the only thing there is the DAB Project Banner. If you can fix this that would be great. One of the threads on the old talk page is a mention that the Sr shouldn't be used for the article as he was never known by that name :-) Thanks for your time. MarnetteD|Talk 05:07, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- I see you got it. Many thanks. MarnetteD|Talk 05:20, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
- I did, thank you. I was about to let you know but you were too quick for me. Best, Philg88 05:24, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Hey genius
— Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.33.31.11 (talk) 03:38, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
