Peeps, I need a solution to a problem of mine i.e.
I have done some work in the past, i.e., I’ve collected some information from the internet mixed and matched with some of Misplaced Pages contents because Misplaced Pages didn’t have much information on it. This was before I joined Misplaced Pages. Now I joined Misplaced Pages, I’m aware of Misplaced Pages’s rules and regulation how to establish their names and so on in my work.
Problem that I’m face is,
1st: I don’t have cite the page information of Misplaced Pages’s. What can I do to mitigate this problem? Because Misplaced Pages insists on providing correct attribution and dating, when I retrieve an article(s)... Is their a solution to this? Is their anyway I can use the current one's information or how can I find the previous ones information?
2nd: I don’t know if the work that I got from other websites are copyrighted. What if I rewrite this work which is mixed with Misplaced Pages’s work. Can anybody find out at all. – Basically the contents will be the same but will be rewritten, some layout might/might not be the same such as bulletins/Numberings (if you know what I mean), depending on your statement of course. If you advise to change the bulletins and Numberings too in a complete different layout then I will… Is there a solution to this? Some paragraphs might be mixed with Misplaced Pages and one/two/three website informaiton (mostly one according to my guessing)
The main problem is if you guys reject it then I have to redo a lot of work beyond imagination.
Note that I have not inserted any images from any websites at all as most are ristricted or require others permissions...
Any suggestions?

- I'm not sure what you're referring to. Do you mean on outside websites? or here on Misplaced Pages? If you mean on outside websites, then as far as reusing material from somewhere else on the internet is concerned: always summarize in your own words, except when you use quotation marks or a blockquote; and preferably state your sources somewhere, especially for quotes (the name of the person or website is often enough, but it's best to provide a link). For Misplaced Pages, it's enough credit if you state the article name that you took stuff from, but it's a better idea never to copy stuff, even if you make just slight changes - a copy is always a rip-off. Write it up in your own words except when you quote.
- If you mean writing you've done on Misplaced Pages, then please identify as many of the articles as you can, and where you took material from; if you copied within Misplaced Pages, make a note on the talk page of what article you copied from; if you copied from somewhere else, or changed only a word here or there, write down here what you can reconstruct, because it will have to be cleaned up. We have to be strict about copyright violation on Misplaced Pages because of the way the project works.
- Do those two answers cover it? If not, post another {{help me}} template and explain what you still need. But I'm going to cancel out this one for now. Yngvadottir (talk) 15:44, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hello Yngvadottir, what I’m doing is for a book. The websites I collected information’s from, are very old, I’m not sure if the websites copyrighted their materials or not. I accumulated the information's over a year period... What shall I do?
- I know how to advertise Misplaced Pages's name now, but what shall I do with the previous work (old work), I don't have their 'dates' or 'permanent link' information... I didn't know how to attribute or anything else, rules and regulations and so on then, I only wished to advertise Misplaced Pages name because it was like a school/college/university to me (still is and will always be...). then I find out there are rules and regulations and so on. This what confused me, this what made me think about other websities. I had this thought in my mind for a long time but didn't have anyone to ask... -- (Russell.mo (talk) 19:24, 22 January 2015 (UTC))
- The golden rule is: use your own words. Rewrite it so that except where you quote, you are always summarizing what others say. Always assume it is copyrighted (very few things are not). And do your best to list your sources. In a book, it doesn't have to be footnotes - it can be a Sources section at the end of the book or at the end of each chapter. List the URLs you can find; you may have bookmarked them as you researched, or you may be able to find most of them again by searching. List the owners of the websites (organizations and individuals) as an alternative where you can't find the exact URL. For dead URLs, the Wayback Machine will often have the page as you originally saw it. Yngvadottir (talk) 19:30, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
