And you think it’s « neutral » Melanie to write such a phrase ? You accuse someone of « probable conflict of interest » without any proof ? Just by reflex ? Is it journalistic ? Is it respecting the freedom of speech to have as first reflex to put some doubt about the neutrality of a journalist, and to propose to delete a page ? | ||

Escalating prods
I can't speak for the other user, but in the case of right to a family I caught it because the LGBT-related keywords in it meant that it showed up on User:AlexNewArtBot/LGBTSearchResult — so after looking at the article and seeing a virtually contentless pile of nonsense, I reviewed the edit history and saw the prods and deprod that way. If there's a page where all deprodded pages can be automatically tracked, though, then unfortunately I'm not aware of it. Bearcat (talk) 06:44, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for answering my question, Bearcat. It would be a nice feature, though, wouldn't it? --MelanieN (talk) 06:47, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sure would sometimes...maybe somebody should suggest it at Misplaced Pages:Village pump (proposals)? Bearcat (talk) 07:15, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) There is of course the Article Alerts bot which projects can sign up for. It is an extremely important tool for my work on the schools project for example. It works only for each project that is subscribed to it and it relies on someone having it on their wl and watching regularly. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 02:00, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion, Kudpung. I guess that's what worked for Bearcat, and would work for anyone interested in a specific subject area. I had wondered (in my question to Bearcat) whether there was some category or list for all articles that had been prodded and then deprodded. I thought that would be an interesting list to patrol. Oh well. --MelanieN (talk) 04:56, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Try this: Category:Past proposed deletion candidates. It might be what you are looking for, but I haven't got time right now to take a closer look at it. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:27, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Well, that's an interesting category all right. Pretty much too huge for browsing, and mostly older articles (I saw nothing more recent than 2012), but interesting nevertheless. The reason they are all listed by talk page is because they have a template ( {{oldprodfull}} ) on the talk page saying "This article was proposed for deletion in the past". I have never seen that template before; is it still used? --MelanieN (talk) 16:26, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, no idea. I guess 'old prod full' is something to do with the fact that articles can only be prodded once. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 16:43, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks, User:Ritchie333! As a matter of fact (GMTA) I was working on the article when you pinged me. I am back from Wikibreak and working on your suggestions, one at a time. I will let you know when I have the article in shape. Thanks for your patience! --MelanieN (talk) 18:22, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- No worries. Being a parent means that patience is absolutely necessary, especially when Christmas is coming up. Anyway, I am delighted to see you enjoy rescuing articles from AfD, which is a favourite passtime of mine as well. More thoughts here. Ritchie333 18:40, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Glad to meet another article rescuer. AfD nominated articles are more challenging; I also do unreferenced BLPs but they are a snap. I think this one was my favorite: Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Emil Frei. Now back to documenting Double IPA! --MelanieN (talk) 19:17, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Ah yes. Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/University of Michigan Men's Glee Club was a long hard slog, no matter how many sources I threw up, people kept !voting delete, so in the end I sourced everything, copyedited it and said "right, you buggers, I'm taking this to GA, see if I don't!" ... and did ;-) Ritchie333 19:51, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- LOL, now that's a rescue I haven't attempted yet! (taking the article to GA.) Well done! --MelanieN (talk) 19:54, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Evan Kosiner was a tough one to crack, as it was a marginally notable person buried in a ton of COI spam which kept getting put back mid-AfD so people !voted delete all over again. I forgot I said "If multiple reliable sources said he was a notable lavatory attendant, that would still meet WP:GNG and be worth a stub" ;-) UMMGC is the only AfD -> GA I've done, they are incredibly rare, you basically have to have a long article that's totally unsourced where most sources are offline to do it, I think. Ritchie333 19:58, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- AfD to GA is the definition of WP:HEY, isn't it? I notice that most of the people who invoke WP:HEY don't actually do any of the work to get it there. --MelanieN (talk) 20:11, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- I think WP:HEY is generally used as a compliment to whoever did the heavy lifting. Good call on Emil Frei by the way, WP:ACADEMIC and WP:PROF are not understood as much as they should be and a well placed source to a university website confirming a post will kill a !delete vote stone dead. If you want a "live" example, by the way, Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Summer Camp Music Festival is on my radar, I've added a Rolling Stone source which ought to seal the deal, but you never can tell. Ritchie333 20:17, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- I love doing academics - and politicians. Because the criteria are so clear-cut, and the sources are almost always there. I'm making good progress at the GA nom article by the way. --MelanieN (talk) 20:33, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- Oh yes, that. I'll have a look when you're done - I think it was just sourcing and verification issues, the prose and coverage was pretty good. Ritchie333 20:47, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Nepal/Canada articles
Hi!
I noticed your comment in your AfD nomination of "Effective microorganisms (EM) for accelerating composting" that the article was "one of a group of articles created last month about exporting agricultural products from Canada to Nepal". I haven't seen the other ones, but this just popped up in the New Pages feed:
Nepalese honey (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Nepalese/Canadian agricultural export/import is a pretty niche subject, so I assume this is more of the same... Kolbasz (talk) 19:46, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads-up, Kolbasz! Since I became aware of these things (by noticing half a dozen in quick succession at New Pages and saying "hey, wait a minute"), I have been finding them everywhere - 25 or 30 of them to date. I have prodded most of them, but a few were acceptable as articles after I deleted the Nepal/Canada stuff. It's possible I have missed a few. No one seems to know who is doing these. I suspect it's a school assignment, but nobody knows anything about it at the Education project, and the users haven't responded to questions. Others have suspected it was spam by sockpuppets, but I doubt that; the writing styles are too different. Anyhow, if you spot any more let me know; repelling this invasion seems to be my "school project" right now! 0;-D --MelanieN (talk) 20:43, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- It is most strange. Hitting the search function, I found some more of them: Nepalese Persimmon Ginger Jam (already PRODded), Nepali orthodox tea, Nepalese silk, Nepalese Buckwheat (already tagged for A10 speedy deletion), and Maofeng green tea. Sinopodophyllum seems to have gotten a drive-by Nepaling as well, with some cleanup attempts and reversions going on (see its talk page). Kolbasz (talk) 22:21, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- Great searching! This is too weird. I'm going to start a list of these articles, so other people can see how they are part of a pattern. And maybe we'll eventually be able to figure out what is going on. --MelanieN (talk) 05:38, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Kolbasz: I started the list, it is here: User:MelanieN/Nepal-Canada articles. Feel free to add to it, and to deal with any of these articles as you come across them; I do not WP:OWN this investigation and would be glad of some other eyes on it. I PRODded Nepalese honey but I haven't really looked at the latest ones you discovered. --MelanieN (talk) 06:18, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- The plot thickens! I just found another addition to an existing article, at Girardinia diversifolia. The username, Studentinsuomi, suggests a Finnish school project. Kolbasz (talk) 13:53, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for your additions, keep it up! The Canada link seems so strong with the others, maybe this is a Finnish student studying in Canada??? I wonder if we'll ever find out what is going on here. --MelanieN (talk) 15:16, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Well, here's a clue: User:Nepalese Junar. This draft is still in userspace, so it doesn't need to be dealt with as an article. But it says at the top that it was written by a student at the University of Guelph - which is in Ontario, so yes, these are coming from Canada. That's part of the mystery solved, thanks to User:LowLevel73 who found that draft. Now if we just had a professor's name we would know who to ask about this.
Meanwhile the student has taken the name of the article as their username and has posted the article as their userpage. I'm not sure what if anything we should do about that. It's now in their sandbox. --MelanieN (talk) 18:13, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Buckwheat
Hi, I just wanted to draw your attention quickly that Nepalese Buckwheat is apparently not just Fagopyrum esculentum as the page says, but includes two species, as this article says. This tangle might take some time to sort out. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 18:44, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for that information, Sminthopsis84! I have actually proposed the article Nepalese Buckwheat for deletion, since it is an essay or analysis of the economic possibilities of buckwheat growing and exportation, rather than a true Misplaced Pages article. (See the above section here on my talk page, about Nepal-Canada articles.) It may be that the author chose to ignore F. tataricum, since according to the reference you linked, the Tartary species is "unknown in the West" - and the author was interested only in exportable products. If the article gets deleted, does that solve the problem, or is there still something that needs sorting out? --MelanieN (talk) 19:13, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm. The Fagopyrum tataricum page says "unfamiliar in the west", which I think is more accurate, meaning that people don't buy it to eat. This source says it is a weed in Europe and North America, and it is used for animal feed. The page about the species could be greatly expanded. Do you suppose that any of the material from Nepalese Buckwheat should be moved there rather than to Buckwheat? Sminthopsis84 (talk) 19:58, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'll have to defer to your expertise on that. Since the author did not mention F. tataricum I'm not sure what we would move there, but if you see anything that would be appropriate, please go ahead and boldly add it. I did put a paragraph or two from the Nepalese article into the Buckwheat article; was any of that incorrect or in the wrong place? Sorry about misremembering "unfamiliar" as "unknown". The mind is the first thing to go. 0;-D --MelanieN (talk) 20:24, 14 December 2014 (UTC)
- BTW - there were four of these student-written essays where we kept the articles, while removing the "how to export from Nepal to Canada" type stuff. If you feel like it, would you like to take a look at those articles, and see if 1) what the students wrote was accurate and 2) what we removed was appropriate? One of them was a new article, Sapindus mukorossi. The other three were existing articles to which the students added their essay: Vigna mungo, Girardinia diversifolia, and Sinopodophyllum. Thanks for your help here! --MelanieN (talk) 20:51, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

I've had a look at those articles now, and I won't look too deeply at what the students wrote (I wonder how the professor assesses material placed in wikipedia). I think what you did with the Nepalese buckwheat article is appropriate; it looks as if at least two species had been conflated, and some other parts would have been more appropriate at cover crop. I've added a little at various buckwheat articles in the hope of preventing such confusion in future. (Using common names for article titles causes all sorts of messes, and I'm sure it has made this poor student's life more difficult. WP:FLORA tries to prevent some of that sort of thing by using scientific names for plants as much as possible.) Sminthopsis84 (talk) 23:29, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, Sminthopsis84. I was actually in favor of deleting the Nepalese buckwheat article entirely, but a redirect accomplishes pretty much the same thing - especially since you say that the student may have been confused about the species. I can see how a title like "Buckwheat," when there are several species under that common name, leads to this kind of error. --MelanieN (talk) 18:42, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Quick question about GA
Hey, is there any minimum standard for the prose size of a article? I mean an article that is well focused and is well cited but has less than 6000+ characters. Can that article become a GA, even when the prose size is low compared to other GA articles? Jim Carter (from public cyber) 16:47, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- There isn't any specific rule about the length of the article that I can find at Misplaced Pages:Good article criteria or Misplaced Pages:Reviewing good articles. I think the requirement is just that the article cover the subject in depth. If you have something you are thinking of nominating for Good Article, do you want me to look at it first? I'm no expert, but I have three Good Articles, so at least I've been through the process. --MelanieN (talk) 18:37, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- (stalking) Which article is this? As Melanie says, there's no hard and fast rule, but from my experience an article below about 6K is more likely to not meet the "broad in coverage" criteria (while an article above 60K, conversely, stands a good chance of not meeting the "focused" criteria), and an article below 3K is a strong candidate for a stub or merge. Ritchie333 11:12, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- It is not yet a article, but a draft kept here. It needs some copyediting and then it can be a good DYK candidate. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 14:59, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- It's a good article, but I don't know it if is a Good Article. (Pardon the pun.) As the saying goes, let's not put the cart before the horse. First get the article into shape (you're right, it does need copyediting; I could help with that). Launch it into mainspace. Submit a DYK. See how the article gets rated by the people who do the evaluating for WikiProjects. (I'm always surprised by how low they rate things; they'll say "start" for something that looks to me like a B class article.) I think it's quite possible that a biographical article about a historical figure like this might cover the subject in depth and still come in at less than 6,000 characters. I think you have made good use of your sources and created an excellent article. Nobody is recommending that you "pad" the article just to bring it up to an arbitrary size. Ritchie, can you point us to some Good Articles about similar people for comparison? --MelanieN (talk) 15:17, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- I will be glad if you can copyedit it then I will move it to mainspace and you can nominate it for DYK if you wish. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 16:18, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- This, not a huge article but a FA. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 16:33, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Not huge, no - but still, 17,000 bytes of readable prose. --MelanieN (talk) 16:36, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Since we don't have any such rules so I think one cannot decline it's GA nomination for that reason. The subject didn't have a huge career so while the article is indept, the length is not as long as other GA articles. Jim Carter (from public cyber) 17:33, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Certainly nothing will stop you from nominating it for GA, and if the length is the only problem it might well pass. I agree that you have covered the topic in depth and well sourced. I think this is premature to think about now though. First to create an article, then to think about GA for it. --MelanieN (talk) 17:46, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much! I noticed that you removed the part of his death from the lead. I saw in some good articles like this which mentions it in the lead. Jim Carter 18:11, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- It could be mentioned, but the sentence in the lead was exactly the same, or at least contained exactly the same information, as the sentence in the text; you want to avoid that kind of redundancy. --MelanieN (talk) 18:19, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- OK, good, I see you have moved it. It still needs: some categories; a persondata box between the references and the categories; and a {{DEFAULTSORT:Watts, Charles DeWitt}} tag right above the categories. --MelanieN (talk) 05:32, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hey, yes I moved it. I will not add default sort or persondata as it will be done by Yobot and BattyBot. I don't know what cats to add. Thank you for expanding it a bit. Btw are you willing to nominate it for DYK? Jim Carter 07:04, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I will nominate it for DYK in the next day or so. You really should add some categories, the article is not complete without them. You know he is a physician and an African American; there are probably subcategories within those categories that would be better than just "physician" and "African American". You could take a look at the Category:African-American people page to find the best subcategory; for example look under "African-American people by occupation" to see if they have "surgeon" or "physician". You know what year he was born, and that's an easy category for any biography: "(year) births". Likewise "(year) deaths". Likewise alumni of the schools he went to, and the cities he is from. Categories are an important part of the job of writing an article, and this subject probably fits into 10 or 12 categories.--MelanieN (talk) 15:08, 19 December 2014 (UTC)

Paul Rosolie
Good morning, Melanie! I started an article about a naturalist, Paul Rosolie but now I'm not sure if it meets our notability threshold, can you please take a look and express your opinion? I was in the process of expanding that article now, but it looks like my mobile battery will not last long so I kept it incomplete. Any sort of help is appreciated. Thanks! Jim Carter 12:56, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm traveling and can't do a lot of Misplaced Pages stuff. But I took a look at your article and did some searching for sources. There are additional sources at Fox News and People. But I think your hunch is right: he may not meet the Notability requirement right now. Basically all of the coverage is about the Discovery Channel special; some people would consider that is a matter of WP:BLP1E. And that is very recent so it's almost a matter of WP:NOTNEWS. He has also written a book but I didn't find any coverage about it. I think if this came to AfD the result would be to delete - or to redirect to the Eaten Alive article. You could use what you have found to expand that article, if you want. BTW I'm surprised you started this article in mainspace. You usually do a userspace draft first. Being an actual article, it is out there for anybody to tag for deletion at any time. And the clock is already ticking, as far as being eligible for DYK. Sorry not to have better news! --MelanieN (talk) 15:57, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- I wanted to start a stub, I don't know how come you thought I was asking for DYK. I haven't done much research before starting it but when I did, I doubted that he might not yet notable for the same reasons you said. As I thought of starting a simple stub hence I didn't started it in userspace. I only start userspace drafts when the project is something special. From my experience, I have seen that articles started by experienced users are less prone to get deletion tags. Anyway, I have turned it into a redirect. Thanks for your help! Jim Carter 17:09, 22 December 2014 (UTC)
- I just mentioned DYK because it's always a possibility with a new article. You're right that people are less inclined or at least less quick to tag articles by experienced editors for deletion, but it does happen. Even a stub has to be about someone notable. Redirecting was smart. It preserves all your work, if you want to expand it into an article later. MelanieN (talk) 17:22, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

FYI
Since you are on vacation, I have created a new article which I myself have nominated for DYK. Anyway, Happy new year! Jim Carter 09:16, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- Great, congratulations! So that's another Misplaced Pages skill you have mastered. I see you did a QPQ even though you didn't have to. That's actually a good habit because they always have a backlog. I sometimes drop by DYK and review a nomination or two just because I have a little free time. Happy new year to you too! MelanieN (talk) 17:23, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
- I have been credited for five DYKs now. The criteria says QPQ is not needed if one have less than five DYKs to there credit. But yes, now I like to review DYK nominations. - B class is actually very good for a brand new article. Most of mine have been rated Start or C when they were new. You can certainly nominate it for GA. I don't have ability right now to review the GA criteria and advise you. I will try to do that next week. MelanieN (talk) 18:29, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

- @Jim Carter: I looked over the GA criteria and I don't see any reason why the Charles DeWitt Watts article wouldn't pass. About Le Courrier de Floride
« Probable conflict of interest ? » And you think it’s « neutral » Melanie to write such a phrase ? You accuse someone of « probable conflict of interest » without any proof ? Just by reflex ? Is it journalistic ? Is it respecting the freedom of speech to have as first reflex to put some doubt about the neutrality of a journalist, and to propose to delete a page ? https://en.wikipedia.org/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution
Since when is it a « conflict of interest » to write about yourself or about your creation or company ? Where as it been written that it’s not part of the freedom of speech to speak about yourself or to speak about your creation or company ?
My first reflex as a professional journalist is to be neutral. I’m not publishing my name to make my own advertising, you can erase my name, it’s not a problem. When i put my name, I just do LIKE THE OTHERS DO, to be conform with Misplaced Pages. This is my first reflex, not to try to put censorship everywhere.
I made a French newspaper in the US for the first time since ??? a very long time. If you think it’s not interesting, then explain us why the other newspapers published in the past are in Misplaced Pages !? https://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_French-language_newspapers_published_in_the_United_States
Is there so many newspapers created in the US during the last years that the first reflex shouldn’t be to support journalism, but instead to propose to erase the mention of this new newspapers in Misplaced Pages ?
Someone may study the case, someone may change the text, wiki is done for that. I’m just surprised that some people are just obsessed by censorship or to put some doubt about « neutrality ».
Please check the facts before accusing ; that’s what us, journalists, are obliged to do. And it’s a good rule. G. Gauthier — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.127.100.103 (talk) 14:21, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, M. Gauthier. (Please remember to sign-in to your Misplaced Pages account before you post; that way we will know it is you.) I'll respond to your comments in a minute, but first: Misplaced Pages has rules, and it has several processes to make sure that the rules are applied fairly. "Proposing for deletion", as I did, only applies when the deletion is uncontroversial. You have objected; that makes it controversial; so I will remove the "proposed for deletion" tag. Instead, I will take it to a general discussion where other editors can discuss the article, decide if it meets Misplaced Pages's requirements, and reach a community decision which will be enforced by an Administrator. That process takes a week, and during that week you can improve the article by expanding it and adding more references. You can also comment at the discussion, explaining why you think the subject meets Misplaced Pages guidelines and the article should stay.
- I'm sorry you were offended by my saying "conflict of interest". But to answer your question "Since when is it a « conflict of interest » to write about yourself or about your creation or company": that very definitely IS a conflict of interest at Misplaced Pages and it is "strongly discouraged". Please read WP:COI and especially WP:COI#Writing about yourself and your work.
- But Conflict of Interest is not by itself a reason to delete an article. The main reason I proposed deleting this article is that it does not meet our criteria for WP:Notability. What that means is that there has to be evidence that the subject (in this case, your newspaper) has been written ABOUT, by outside, independent, reliable sources. A simple explanation of the guideline is here. Your newspaper is new; I searched but I could not find that any outside source has written anything about it yet. You did supply a link to a notice by the French Consulate, but that is not enough. Notice that even before I proposed it for deletion, someone else had tagged it "The topic of this article may not meet Misplaced Pages's general notability guideline." and "This article may rely excessively on sources too closely associated with the subject, preventing the article from being verifiable and neutral."
- Finally, "freedom of speech" and "censorship" do not apply here. "Freedom of speech" says that the government cannot repress speech. But Misplaced Pages is not the government; it is a private organization. Misplaced Pages does not publish everything that anyone cares to write. Misplaced Pages has standards, as it must have if it is to maintain its usefulness as an encyclopedia. One of those standards is notability.
- I do wish your newspaper well, and if outside sources take note of it and start to write about it, it could be eligible for an article here in the future, even if it gets deleted now. --MelanieN (talk) 15:58, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
There is a conflict of interest if i ask to 50 friends to do it for me ; not if i assume what i'm writing !!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:37f6:4670:2ce7:8b30:f2d8:dca (talk • contribs)
- The discussion about whether to keep the article is here: Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Le Courrier de Floride. You are welcome to comment there, but be sure to first read the policy pages I linked to above: WP:COI and WP:Notability. --MelanieN (talk) 16:14, 5 January 2015 (UTC)
- PLEASE sign in to your account, User:GwendalGauthier, when you comment. Otherwise it is almost impossible to carry on a conversation. Let me explain what has happened here: I proposed your article for deletion, but you objected; that means it cannot be deleted on the basis of a simple proposal. I still think it does not meet Misplaced Pages's criteria to have an article here, so I have taken it to a general discussion, where other Misplaced Pages editors, including you, can comment. The decision will be made based on Misplaced Pages policies, not general arguments, so be sure that you understand the policies I have linked to. And please understand that the decision (whether to keep the article or delete it) is not any kind of value judgment about you or your paper. I have looked at your paper, and it is well written and interesting; I hope it is successful. And even if it is not now notable enough for an article here, it might be in the future - if it gains wider notice from outside sources. --MelanieN (talk) 16:21, 5 January 2015 (UTC)

AfD to save
Hi. I came across Ika Hügel-Marshall which is up for AfD but a book search reveals a huge amount of sources. Not sure of whether the coverage is significant, but I'm going to see if I can expand it a bit, and if you want to help, that would be great. This might just be another potential AfD -> GA, depending on the level of sourcing I can find. Ritchie333 16:43, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, sounds like a very interesting woman! I added a little more about the title of her book; not sure I can help it all the way to GA. Nice rescue on your part! --MelanieN (talk) 18:13, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Ritchie333: Well, OK, you hooked me. I added some more stuff and some categories. I would like to see a reference link to her book, but I'll let you add it since it's your format. At Amazon I find: the 1998 German version , the 2008 translation , and an annotated English edition . Not sure how much of that you want to include but if we are going for GA we might as well be thorough. --MelanieN (talk) 18:55, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Well the first thing we could do is to extend the article 5 times for DYK. When I got hold of it today, it was 689 bytes of text, and now it's 1863 bytes. If we can get it up to 3445 bytes (another 1582, probably another few sentences) that will be enough. I'll see if I dig out some more book or news sources, might need to go to German ones, and get it up there. Then after that, after I've used all the sources I can possibly find and it describes her entire life and influences, I can try for a GA (that's likely to be about 10K of text). Watch this space. And thanks very much for your help so far! Ritchie333 21:56, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Let's discuss any further improvements on the article talk page; I have it on my watchlist. You started expanding it today? So the DYK deadline is Jan. 12? --MelanieN (talk) 22:16, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
- Wow, that was fast! Great work. --MelanieN (talk) 15:50, 8 January 2015 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Alfred D. Robinson
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Alfred D. Robinson you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of AmaryllisGardener -- AmaryllisGardener (talk) 15:21, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
Another article
This needs some Copyediting. And I was thinking about a DYK. Jim Carter 15:42, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- I looked through it and did a little copyediting. I also added some categories (you know how I love categories!).
- A suggestion that is more than just copyediting: refocus the lead, so that it is about the things that make her notable - first African American woman to earn a PhD from Harvard; first full-time black professor at George Washington University; historian of the District of Columbia - rather than a repetition of her resumé.
- Nice article, I'm sure it will qualify as a GA with a little work. DYK would be good too; there are some obvious hooks. How about "Did you know... that Letitia Woods Brown was the first African American woman to earn a PhD from Harvard University in history?" --MelanieN (talk) 22:48, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- Yep. Thanks for adding those cats. Yesterday I left that work as I was feeling sleepy.
- I have added those things to the lead.
- I like the DYK hook. Feel free to nominate it for DYK. I have already nominated it for GA. Thanks for your help! Jim Carter 10:36, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Actually that hook won't work. The references don't support it. Refs 1, 2, and 8 don't mention the claim at all. Ref 3 mentions it but says "unable to substantiate". Ref 7 says "among the first" African American women. If you are already working toward GA let's let the DYK go for now. It will become eligible for DYK all over again, if it is advanced to GA. --MelanieN (talk) 17:30, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Oops. I don;t know how did it happened. Look at this, I originally written: "one of the". Anyway, it passed GA. Feel free to nominate now. Btw I'm not going to respond for few days (maybe) I slammed my computer while I was trying to vote at your RfA. Out of frustration. And it is not working any more. Jim Carter 19:50, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- About DYK: I've kind of got a lot of my plate for the next seven days. 0;-D Do you want to nominate it yourself? Sorry to hear about your computer; hope it feels better soon! BTW about the RfA: the most recent two commenters said that your sandbox page alone was enough to convince them they should support! So you see, you DID get to nominate me after all! --MelanieN (talk) 00:33, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Acentrogobius kranjiensis
Today Acentrogobius kranjiensis was submitted as the first article ever by User:Pi-gimjiRu, and after checking Fishbase, ITIS and some other sources, I think this species is not valid, it seems to be a synomym with Drombus kranjiensis, see genus Drombus on wikipedia, http://www.fishbase.se/summary/Drombus-globiceps.html on Fishbase, and http://www.gbif.org/species/106851867 on gbif.org etc. I guess one option is to redirect the article to Drombus kranjiensis, if this is the valid species? What do you think? Dan Koehl (talk) 23:50, 13 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking at this, User:Dan Koehl. With my edit, I was not vouching for the information at all; I was just giving the article a lead sentence per WP:MOS. I will defer to your expertise to determine whether it is a valid name. If this name isn't valid we shouldn't redirect it anywhere; we should delete it.
- We would need to find a reference listing it a species name used somewhere, as well as confirmation that it is an alternate name for the same fish which is the target of the redirect. The only source in the article is in Thai so it's no help. If we can't find some kind of confirmation of this name, the item should be deleted. BTW you suggested it might be a synonym for Drumbus kranjiensis, but according to Misplaced Pages, the threadfin blue goby is Acentrogobius cyanomos ! What do your sources say about that?
- Let me know what you think. If you feel it is invalid based on your search of references, I will be happy to propose its deletion. --MelanieN (talk) 00:36, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Not sure, Ill ask tomorrow on Wikispecies. At this very moment, I belive its not a valid species, but synonym with Drumbus kranjiensis, and could therefore be redirected there, so we cover all google serach keywords. The populair name threadfin blue goby have no relevance for this species, I think. Ill get back tomorrow, no need to delete yet, but lets make sure we provide accurate info within a couple of days? And I can later fill in the taxobox for the article, so it looks better, in case you dont. see you tomorrow! Dan Koehl (talk) 00:46, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Well, the fact that they listed the wrong common name suggests that NONE of their information can be relied on - maybe not even the existence of the species name. Thanks, and let me know what you find out. --MelanieN (talk) 02:02, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

- More here. Dan Koehl (talk) 06:16, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks, User:Dan Koehl. They said "neither CoF or Fishbase lists Acentrogobius kranjiensis" Am I interpreting that reply correctly, that they found no record of any such species as Acentrogobius kranjiensis in the standard resources? I'm not an expert in this field so I want to make sure I am understanding correctly. If you agree that was what they were saying, I will request deletion of the article. --MelanieN (talk) 00:35, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Good wishes for your upcoming RFA. I really like the way you have answered question 3, with ANI links. Hope for the best. --Tito☸Dutta 09:57, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- The only objection to your RfA that I can foresee is that...
- ... And 300+ supports for you will severely embarrass those Wikipedians already in the admin corps

Thank you both - I hope you haven't jinxed me! What's that old saying about counting chickens? 0;-D And Tito, congratulations on the way yours appears to be going. You are an inspiration to other prospective admins. --MelanieN (talk) 14:09, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
*waves* (:and question 5:)
Just thought I would pop in to say good luck with your RFA! Love the answers to the questions. As for the one that User:NE_Ent removed I was actually asked the same question many moons ago. Personally I don't see the question as irrelevant as I learn't a lot about you through your answer. I would restore it but would rather not accidentally create any drama or large discussion about what is and is not relevant! ·addshore· 00:53, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- Well, Addshore, I enjoyed your question, but I agree it's not something to create drama over. (By what right does one user remove another user's question? Let's not go there.) And I guess this answers my question "Is levity not allowed here?" The answer appears to be "no, it isn't." --MelanieN (talk) 01:01, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Another rescue
While you're waiting for your mop and bucket to be FedExed, could I interest you in saving Sonia Poulton from AfD? I've done a bit of cleanup, and I think much more can be done to save it - unfortunately her main work has been at the end of journalism that Misplaced Pages doesn't really like, so I think it'll involve pulling together lots of bits of carefully picked sources. Ritchie333 12:45, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
- I took a quick look and wasn't encouraged; this one may not be salvageable. I'll look more later. It's kind of a crazy time for me at Misplaced Pages right now. 0;-D --MelanieN (talk) 23:52, 15 January 2015 (UTC)
Please wait
I very much appreciate the support and encouragement I have been getting at my Request for Adminship. However, I'd like to ask that you hold off on "congratulations" type messages until the discussion is closed and the mop (if any) actually awarded. OK? --MelanieN (talk) 14:52, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

Something useful
(barring a record-breaking pile-on of opposition with convincing diffs...). Have a look at User:Peridon/links. The top part is the admin dashboard (also obtainable elsewhere of course), and some of the bottom part you won't need, but bits might be handy. Peridon (talk) 12:55, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the link. It made my head spin. How long does it take before one is actually conversant with all of that??? --MelanieN (talk) 15:52, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
- That's what the links are for - just remember the everyday stuff. The admin school is useful for playing with to begin with. You'll build up your own collection of handy links for the things that aren't easy to find in a hurry. The main problem is remembering to add them after you've found them and hurriedly used them and moved on to something else urgent. 8-) Peridon (talk) 16:32, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful and made you an administrator. Take a look at the administrators' how-to guide and the administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Also, the practice exercises at the new admin school may be useful. Point Loma Heights, San Diego
Hi Melanie - just wanted to let you know about a new PL neighborhood article I just wrote. I think it may have been the last SD neighborhood without one - at least it was the only redlink in the communities box. There was very little usable info I found outside of the SD police map and the Peninsula community plan (which actually doesn't use the term "Point Loma Heights"). Which makes some sense, as I always considered this part of PL "generic Point Loma". Please take a look and add to it as you are able. Thanks! Dohn joe (talk) 03:50, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- Wow - there used to be a LOT of redlinks in that communities box. Is that your doing, that you have been creating the missing articles? Great work! As for Point Loma Heights, my experience is the same as yours - the term isn't used much. Apparently the planning department and the police use it as a catchall term for areas like Ocean Beach Highlands and the other (I think mostly 1950s) developments in that area. But you have created an excellent article with the sources you have. I'll take a look for more a little later but I suspect you have found what there is to find. --MelanieN (talk) 15:09, 23 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks Melanie. I did maybe a dozen or so, mainly in Southeast San Diego and the South Bay. This had been the last one in the box, and it finally got to me enough to go write something! Dohn joe (talk) 16:59, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

All the information is here: Misplaced Pages:Courtesy vanishing. Sorry to see you leaving Misplaced Pages! --MelanieN (talk) 16:09, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Blood donors article
would you please help us to upload the content in blood donors of America. There can not be any humanitarian organization which entirely works for the welfare of the community. would you please help us.
thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Febnin (talk • contribs) 03:11, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Febnin, and thanks for your note. Let me explain. I realize that Blood Donors of America is a real organization, and that it is a legitimate charity and does good work. But unfortunately that's not enough for inclusion in Misplaced Pages. This is an international encyclopedia, and it has to have standards for inclusion; we don't have articles about just everything in the world. One of those standards is that the subject has to be "notable". What that means is that independent, reliable sources like newspapers or journals or news programs have taken note of the organization and have written about it in depth. It's not enough if there are passing mentions (like "The Blood Donors of America will have a blood drive Saturday"); there has to be coverage ABOUT the organization. Things like Facebook or your own website don't count because they are not independent. I did a search, to see if Blood Donors of America has received that kind of coverage, and unfortunately it has not. That means it cannot have an article here.
The article has now been deletedtwicethree times, bytwothree different administrators. If you create it again, it is likely to be deleted again. In fact, if you create it again, we will probably block the title so that nobody can create an article about this any more. You need to accept this and move on. There are many places where you can promote this organization, but Misplaced Pages is not one of them. Sorry, and thanks for caring! --MelanieN (talk) 15:49, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
help needed
Hi Melanie. You seem to have an affinity to this editor. He's trying to Wikilawyer with me, but he'll only end up of making an enemy out of me instead of a friend. Perhaps you can spread some of your magic calming dust. Cheers, --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 11:06, 1 February 2015 (UTC)

Camille Cosby
Thank you for protecting the Camille Cosby page. That was getting tiresome removing unsourced comments about her husband's sexual abuse allegations. -- Kbabej (talk) 20:29, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Kbabej: You're welcome. I hope two weeks will be long enough. Let me know if the problem resumes. --MelanieN (talk) 20:30, 3 February 2015 (UTC)
- Will do! :) --Kbabej (talk) 20:31, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

@Alexf: Block evasion on 2014–15 S.L. Benfica season. SLBedit (talk) 21:44, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- Hello! You are talking about the edits by the "new" user 85.245.81.143 ? I don't have the ability to confirm whether that is someone evading a block. Maybe Alex does? --MelanieN (talk) 22:08, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
- Possibly; can't confirm for sure. Edits are not the same. -- Alexf 00:50, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Alexf: Now it is possible. See the edit summary. I have requested page protection and reported the user for vandalism. SLBedit (talk) 09:55, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

How is that user getting through your PP on Williams? It's not even a real account. Atsme☯ 23:26, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Atsme: I don't know what you mean. According to the article history there have been no edits to the article since I put in the protection. --MelanieN (talk) 00:02, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
My apologies. I didn't realize it was on the Talk Page - clearly disruptive. Atsme☯ 00:44, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- PS - had to pop a top after I saw the pictures. Atsme☯ 00:45, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- @Atsme: Well, at least they are no longer messing up the article. Talk pages are almost never protected. And it might cause more trouble than it would solve to delete the comment as trolling. I would say just ignore them unless they begin swamping the page, and then I would try AIV. P.S. what pictures??? --MelanieN (talk) 00:51, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

- Oh, well, yeah. People give me virtual beer because I like to write articles about beer. I think that got me a couple of extra votes at my RfA! 0;-D --MelanieN (talk) 01:27, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
