Misplaced Pages:Arbitration/Requests/Case/DangerousPanda closed

This arbitration case has been closed and the final decision is available at the link above. The following remedy has been enacted:

1.1) For his violations of the standards of conduct expected of administrators, DangerousPanda (talk · contribs) is desysopped. He may regain the tools at any time via a successful request for adminship.

pardon my intruding nose, but I read this: "ArbCom expects desysopped admins to leave the project. It's a permanent sanction. Hawkeye7 (talk) 11:46, 25 December 2014 (UTC)" here. Was she an actress? IMDb doesn't list any credits as such. Clarityfiend (talk) 00:36, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

There is some info that might be useful just below the opening paragraph here. Of course there might be other sources that disagree with this but I thought its description of why the actress from the silent film era gets confused with her. Cheers to you both. MarnetteD|Talk 00:42, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
No idea what happened there! I've removed the comments about being an actress. Maybe she had acting credits when I created it in 2008 and it's a case of two different people having one IMDB profile at that time. Lugnuts 10:49, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
@Clarityfiend:, @MarnetteD: - Found it. Here's a snapshot of IMDB in early 2009. Clearly two biographies of different individuals. Lugnuts 10:48, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Good to know L. FYI for some reason the "ping" command no longer lights up the red dot notification for me. The "u" (as in {{u|MarnetteD}} still works. It doesn't matter here as I have your talk page watchlisted but I thought I'd let you know in case you try to contact me on another article or editors talk page. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 18:46, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Marnette! I've had my doubt about the ping function for sometime. Hmmm - Clarityfiend. Bazinga. Lugnuts 18:51, 4 January 2015 (UTC)
YW. There is a possibility that "ping" was replaced by this {{reply to|Username}}. I have seen this one a couple of times though it hasn't been used to contact me. I am guessing of course but I thought it worth a mention. MarnetteD|Talk 19:20, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

DYK for Me, Myself and Mum

Updated DYK queryOn 6 January 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Me, Myself and Mum, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Guillaume Gallienne (pictured) received critical acclaim for his portrayal of himself and his mother in his 2013 autobiographical comedy film Me, Myself and Mum? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your Opinion

Hi, I just wanted to know something. Is it necessary to include Golden Raspberry Awards nominations at actor's page of "Awards and nominations". Because they those awards look like parody or satire. I am confused on this matter, because some winners and nominees have included them in their age like Will Smith but some didn't like Jennifer Aniston. I will really appreciate your answer regarding this matter.--Jockzain (talk) 21:15, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Welcome, I'll probably add more tomorrow. The biggest problem of course are how some people have alternate names and stuff like that. Hello

Hello, what happened to you mate? I was shocked (quite genuinely) by your atrocious behavior recently. Afghanistan rename

I really don't understand why you thought it was a speedy request because if you read the discussion you would see it actually lasted for three weeks and a majority of 3-1 agreed to the rename based on sources. 100 percent unanimity isn't something that happens often on Misplaced Pages. Notability of Manic Street Preachers articles

You removed the {{notability}} tag from several Manic Street Preachers-related articles. The reason I added this tag is because the subjects in question didn't meet the notability requirements (the guidelines that are found on the link contained within the tag): e.g. they didn't place on more than one reputable chart, or, they placed on one chart but did not have sufficient independent references to back them up (e.g. in the case of 4st 7lb, the article has numerous references but they are in regard to the album The Holy Bible and not the track in specific; by this (incorrect) logic any track could have an article if the album's subject has enough references). Lachlan Foley (talk) 22:36, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

In the case of "Further Away" it was pretty easy to add a handful of references. -- Sam 01:44, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
They're clearly notable. Lugnuts 10:09, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
The following message by Lachlan Foley in reply to my message above has been moved from User talk:Sam Sailor#Further Away notability in order to avoid fragmentation. I hope you don't mind, Lugnuts. -- Sam 10:37, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
I notice you removed the {{notability}} tag from the article Further Away. You have added sources, which is good, but it appears these references are not specifically about the subject in question – I believe in order to qualify a subject as Misplaced Pages-notable it must contain numerous sources specifically about that subject, not just sources which may mention the subject. If this differs from your understanding please let me know, but, if not, I think the {{notability}} tag should be replaced.
Please notify me with the Talkback template once you have replied. Lachlan Foley (talk) 06:48, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
@Lachlan Foley: The belief that "in order to qualify a subject as Misplaced Pages-notable it must contain numerous sources specifically about that subject" seems to me to be in conflict with WP:GNG that says Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention but it need not be the main topic of the source material. (my emphasis). Which guideline is being quoted? -- Sam 10:37, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Please keep this on Foley's talkpage. His ass-handing is coming soon enough. Lugnuts 10:51, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
OK, I have struck my previous above and asked Foley to reply on my talk page. -- Sam 11:09, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
Danke. Lugnuts 11:10, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
"They're clearly notable" is not a valid argument. Lachlan Foley (talk) 23:15, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
Stop being a WP:DICK. Take them to AfD if they're not notable! Lugnuts 10:05, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

Jane Clive

So I made the page for Jane Clive who was listed as being nominated, but now she is not on the Oscar page (and she just had all her refs removed from her page from someone else as well as some odd things happened), not sure what to say is she nominated or not? Sarkis Assadourian (fencer)

I attached the category "Iranian Armenian people" for Sarkis Assadourian (fencer) as he is an ethnic Armenian from Iran just as the category implies. You had earlier asked where does it does say that he is from Armenia. Again, if you reread what I wrote, you would know that he is from Iran and not from Armenia. There is no argument there. As for the source to where it says he is Armenian, there is none posted. I just know he is an ethnic Armenian just by name as Armenians have a big community presence in Iran. I don't understand how you think of me as vandalizing an article? Perhaps, we could clear up some misunderstanding. Hovhannesk (talk) 14:33, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Just a note

Cwobeel has demonstrated a pattern of WP:IDHT and battleground behavior. It was not an unassuming error that was made. Those edits occurred after this discussion at this BLPN. After Cirt makes that BLPN notice the very first thing Cwobeel does is restore the entire unsourced page.. While User talk:Cwobeel#IMDB is not a reliable source did follow - Cwobeel was entirely aware of BLP and the requirements. While he says he knows the difference now, but he was informed repeatedly including that discussion by Kww and repeatedly disagreed with Kww. This WP:IDHT attitude leads to Cwobeel challenging Kww with this edit stating: If you are going to block any editor that adds material without a source, you will not have time for anything else. Look, I understand the issue, but this is a storm in a team cup, so let's drop it, shall we? The block came a minute later. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 14:55, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

The Good Companions

This film had its world premiere at the Warner Theatre, Leicester Square on March 7th 1957 (I believe I initially put January in error). The film is, therefore a 1957 film and the BFI is wrong. A film is dated by its first public performance, not the year it was made.Ambak51 (talk) 12:58, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Source it. Lugnuts 12:58, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

THe source is the cinema's advertising in The Times of March 7 1957, available on The Times Online Archive. In addition, the BBFC website gives January 9th 1957 as its certification date, so it could not have been shown to the public before that date.Ambak51 (talk) 15:59, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

About your (non)participation in the January 2012 SOPA vote

Hi. I am Piotr Konieczny (User:Piotrus), you may know me as an active content creator (see my userpage), but I am also a professional researcher of Misplaced Pages. Recently I published a paper (downloadable here) on reasons editors participated in Misplaced Pages's biggest vote to date (January 2012 WP:SOPA). I am now developing a supplementary paper, which analyzes why many editors did not take part in that vote. Which is where you come in :) You are a highly active Wikipedian (21st most active!), and you were active back during the January 2012 discussion/voting for the SOPA, yet you did not chose to participate in said vote. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me why was that so? For your convenience, I prepared a short survey at meta, which should not take more than a minute of your time. I would dearly appreciate you taking this minute; not only as a Misplaced Pages researcher but as a fellow content creator and concerned member of the community (I believe your answers may help us eventually improve our policies and thus, the project's governance). PS. If you chose to reply here (on your userpage), please WP:ECHO me. Thank you! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:59, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Tag-banned user and AfD nominations

Following their recent ban from tagging with {{notability}} I notice that in just two days from the 2nd to the 4th they have send 17 articles to Afd (). Several of these cases are articles where the editor previously tagged with notability. Some AfD nominations fall within just 2-3 minutes of each other. I had a go at the oldest nomination,4st 7lb, and it was quite easy to add ten sources. All in all I don't get the impression that they try to search for and add sources prior to hitting the XfD button. Your thoughts? -- Sam 13:44, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

JustPlaneEditing

I might need a bit of help here. As understood, I can be blocked the next time I break the rules again. We should keep an eye on the kid under our watchlists, just in case he starts spamming our talk pages or anything as soon as his 3-day block is up. I just reverted his own edits at his own talk page, as he was apparently taunting me. Just a smart-mouth hypocrite spoiled brat that is so great at trash-talking just because he got his own self blocked. JoesphBarbaro (talk) 20:58, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks JB. Wont be too long before he hangs himself. Lugnuts 07:42, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Stub template spacing

Per WP:STUBSPACING: It is usually desirable to leave two blank lines between the first stub template and whatever precedes it. --Bamyers99 (talk) 22:24, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

"It is usually desirable" - come back to me when it's changed to "You MUST leave..." Lugnuts 13:00, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Various questions

Let me start just with one question that I couldn't figure out by searching the project talk pages, but I guess you have an answer to, categories: common sense (if I dare think I have any such) tell me that we only add production companies. Which in any case sometimes is 3-4-5 companies. We don't add Distributors and 'Other Companies', right? -- Sam 19:10, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Heads up

When someone asks you to stop posting on their talk page, barring an ANI notification or something like that, it means stop posting. Not post another snide comment and then insult the person who rightly removed your dreck. If you have a problem with Bishonen (or any other editor), take it to ANI. §FreeRangeFrog 20:00, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

And you are? Let me know when you've crawled out of their arses. Lugnuts 20:03, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
I'be blocked you for 12 hours to give you a chance to cool off, which you apparently need. I'm sure you know how to use the unblock template without assistance if you so wish. §FreeRangeFrog 20:15, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Powertrip much? Lugnuts 20:16, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Have a read of WP:BLOCKNOTPUNITIVE and WP:CIR. Lugnuts 20:18, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
FreeRangeFrog I think you should unblock Lugnuts. He only posted once after being clearly told not to post there anymore, that one post got removed (by me), he acknowledged the removal (I wasn't insulted, I'm happy to be Bishonen's lackey and sycophant) without insisting on re-posting it or edit-warring. I don't think this block is preventing anything except Lugnuts from improving the encyclopedia. ---Sluzzelin talk 21:35, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
@Sluzzelin: Thank you, but what he posted on your talk page was just icing on the cake. I blocked him because I wanted to prevent further disruption on Bishonen's talk page, which I assumed was likely given her responses to you and myself here. Lugnuts is obviously a prolific content creator, but no one is above our policies and guidelines. One of the cornerstones of this community's safeguards against harassment is the ability to ask someone not to post in their talk page. No one should be forced to put up with any harassment there, if nowhere else. Bishonen has as much a right to reject those edits as you do to accept them on your talk page. I don't know what triggered all this and I really don't care - if I ask someone to walk away from my talk page I expect them to do it, and I'd expect that any uninvolved administrator would be willing to enforce that right. Since I had the talk page on my watchlist, I simply did. I sincerely hope that 12 hours will be enough to convince Lugnuts that what he did was wrong and that it won't happen again. WP:CIVIL is not a collection of suggestions, it is a policy. §FreeRangeFrog 23:56, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply. My attempt was to de-escalate, by removing before someone responded and specifically not to interfere with Lugnuts further. Obviously he reacted. I chose to respond sillily and in a way I thought might steal his thunder, again with the aim to de-escalate. After that he moved on and was working on articles for 45 minutes or so until you posted a warning here. I would not have expected that action to have a de-escalating effect, and indeed it didn't. To then block was problematic in my opinion. I doubt Lugnuts would have returned to Bishonen's talk page and I don't think anything else would have happened had you not posted here. Such a block probably would frustrate and demotivate me. ---Sluzzelin talk 00:09, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
If Lugnuts wants to make an unblock request then Lugnuts can do that. However it seems very clear that there was a violation of our civility policy that did warrant a block. I think waiting out the 12 hours would be best. Chillum 21:39, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
I agree with the block and Chillum. Lugnuts is fortunate not to have incurred a longer block. It doesn't help that after attacking Bishonen he then attacked FreeRangeFrog. I see no sign thus far that he acknowledges that he did anything wrong.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:13, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
It's OK folks, FreeRangeFrog is clearly making up for an inadequacy in their own life and needs to do what they did. Nice to see all the old glory hunters returning en-masse. Lugnuts 08:26, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Blocked for personal attacks

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 36 hours for blatant violation of WP:NPA with this edit. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Stephan Schulz (talk) 10:15, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I've yet to have been notified of the discussion on ANI by the other user, per the subst:ANI-notice template. Lugnuts 12:18, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Misplaced Pages, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
  1. understand what you have been blocked for,
  2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
  3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Tiderolls 13:46, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Just to make it easier for whoever reacts on the unblock request, Lugnuts reacted at ANI in this very topic which clearly shows that he has seen the ANI topic.--Ymblanter (talk) 12:20, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Only due to the red-dot notification. You didn't actually follow the process, and as an admin, you should know that you MUST do that. Lugnuts 12:21, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
In my ANI message I asked anybody to inform you, which became redundant after you reacted, so that I crossed it out.--Ymblanter (talk) 12:24, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
No, you as the person logging the incident should have informed me. - "When you start a discussion about an editor, you must notify them on their user talk page" It's in red at the top of the page incase you missed it. Lugnuts 12:26, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Note that Ymblanter obviously has issues with me going back to this edit. And this one where I warn him of his vandalism. Lugnuts 12:51, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
I'll have to say I fail to see WP:AGF in that interaction, and I also don't think that "I'm not going to forget your disruptive edits and vandalism" is a useful warning - it certainly reads more like a threat to me. Please try to de-escalate, not to escalate conflicts. WP:AGF is there for a reason - not every edit you perceive as bad is actually bad, and even if it is, it usually is a long way from vandalism. Instead of assuming someone is "deliberate attempting to compromise the integrity of Misplaced Pages", take a step back, try (patiently) try to find out the reason for the edit, and then find consensus via discussion of the sources. It's not as if someone added "OBAMA FUCKS JIMBO" to the Oscar page... --Stephan Schulz (talk) 15:31, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Request reason:

Thanks Tide rolls. OK, having reviews the above points 1, 2, 3, and the help from Floquenbeam, below, I'll state my case for an unblock request. :From time to time, I do take things too seriously. This involves some heated exchanges of words with other users. On reflection, this is clearly not the correct thing to do. WP:NPA is just that - no personal attacks. I was wrong for what I said and in the context it was said. So, in order (I believe): :Bishonen - I apologise for questioning your competence on your talkpage. It was a bad, knee-jerk comment that I should not have said. :Sluzzelin - I apologise for what I posted on your talkpage. Again, should not have happened. :FreeRangeFrog - Again, apologies for the comments directed at you on my talkpage. There was simply no excuse for them. :I promise not to make personal attacks on any other editor, no matter how I feel on a given topic, and remain calm, knowing that not everyone appreciates my sense of humour (dark, with a squeeze of black). You have all the ammunition against me if I go against this promise. I'm here to help build an encyclopedia. And to work with other editors to reach that goal. All my contributions are useful, but I do let myself down from time to time, as this incident has shown. Again, apologies to anyone who was offended by any comments I've said (esp. over the last 24hrs). I hope to move on from this and never be brought back to ANI in a negative light. Lugnuts 14:40, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Accept reason:

With an agreement to tone it down significantly, and the apologies above, I see no need for the block to remain. I don't see any autoblocks, let me know if I've missed one. Floquenbeam (talk) 15:50, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Sickening. Now man-up and block me! Lugnuts 09:12, 13 February 2015 (UTC)

Email to JPE?

Hi Lugnuts,

This "death threat in an email" claim that JustPlaneEditing made needs to get resolved one way or the other. If you sent him any email in the last couple of days, please forward (not copy-paste, but forward) it to ArbCom so they can compare it to the one I've asked him to forward to them. If you didn't send any email at all, please say so. --Floquenbeam (talk) 14:01, 11 February 2015 (UTC) (p.s. If you want some advice on the blocking thing, I've got some, but won't stick my nose in if it isn't welcome. --Floquenbeam (talk) 14:01, 11 February 2015 (UTC))

Hi Floquenbeam. I can confirm that I have sent no emails to JPE, or any other user on WP, at any time. I might be dumb (see the above block, for example), but I'm not stupid enough to send death threats. I'd like to know what happens to users who throw accusations around like this, which are untrue. Yes, any advice on the blocking thing would be welcome too. Lugnuts 14:09, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
If JPE can't provide evidence of such an email, I'll indef block him.
Keep in mind I'm a great admirer of Bishonen's, so you may not value this advice (and that's fine). But you're kind of being obnoxious to everyone you're running across. I'd give examples, but you know what I'm talking about. I'm not sure that a series of escalating blocks are a great way to stop that, but something has to give. As a reviewing admin, all I'd really want to see is an agreement that you'll dial things back and move on to other things. An acknowledgement that you're upset with one person and so have over-reacted to others would be nice, but not required (and it doesn't really sound like you, does it...). --Floquenbeam (talk) 14:22, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. JPE have had a recent history, I'll admit that (and talkpage diffs from both sides will confirm that), but it's one thing to do that, than to go and send emails. And yes, it doesn't sound like me, but sometimes you have to admit you made a mistake, man-up, and move on. I'll give it a shot. Lugnuts 14:26, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for the unblock, Floquenbeam. Has any progress been made on this issue in my absence since lunchtime? Lugnuts 18:58, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
JPE hasn't edited since I left the note on his talk page. I don't have the benefit that you do of knowing 100% whether there was an email sent, so I kind of have to be like Schrödinger until there's a reply. My current plan, subject to change if I think better of it later, is to block JPE if I don't hear from them in 24 hours; if I do, I'll play it by ear. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:36, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Gah. It just occurred to me that you actually don't have email enabled, so you couldn't have sent an email to JPE. Ignore the above, this will be resolved in a few minutes. --Floquenbeam (talk) 20:46, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Haha, I never thought of that! Bazinga. Lugnuts 11:00, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Hello

I liked your apology. Please take this in the spirit it's meant (I know I can come across as patronising sometimes): Some suggestions you might find useful. --Dweller (talk) 14:45, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Dweller. I hope a reviewing admin comes to the same view. Lugnuts 14:59, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
As far as I'm concerned: apology fully accepted. All the best. ---Sluzzelin talk 15:07, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Lugnuts. No grudges or hard feelings, we all have bad days. I'm just happy to see this de-escalated and resolved so you can get back to the good work you do around here. §FreeRangeFrog 17:35, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Okay, so I won't link the discussion in question but we both acted like children and I didn't realise you had the above going on at the same time. Deletion discussion about Michela Balducci

Hello, Lugnuts,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Michela Balducci should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Michela Balducci .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

So I wanted to drop by and hope this finds you well. We now have a complete set of (still quite stub'ish) list articles on Robert Awards (quick view: {{Robert Awards chron}}). I've used {{Ill}} as far as I had the time, so if you're sitting around not knowing what your next ten new articles should be there are dozens of redlinked film/actor/director subjects that needs translation. Talking about new articles, is it a correct observation that you often make a dummy edit, e.g. here, in articles you have created following another editor's contribution? Why?
