Excellence Canada is a non-profit organization that specializes in the training, implementation, and certification of organization excellence in Canada. Excellence Canada is also the custodian and adjudicator for the Canada Awards for Excellence, under the Patronage of His Excellency, the Right Honourable David Johnston, the Governor General of Canada.
History
Established in 1992 through start-up funding provided by Industry Canada, Excellence Canada (then the National Quality Institute) was formed as a not-for-profit partnership between the Government and leading private sector organizations as a response to Canada's lagging economic competitiveness globally. To combat this slippage, Excellence Canada established the Canadian Framework for Business Excellence in conjunction with Industry Canada and quality experts across Canada. The Framework provides criteria for best practices that can help Canadian organizations to achieve world-class performance. Excellence Canada has recently developed its Excellence, Innovation and Wellness Standard, its Healthy Workplace® Standard, and its Mental Health at Work® Framework. These innovations are drawing positive reviews from professionals involved in both the domestic and international “business excellence” field.
Awards
The Canada Awards for Excellence are internationally recognized as the global quality award for Canada. In its patronage of this award, Excellence Canada stands beside the likes of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, who administer the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the United States, and the Japanese Union of Scientists and Engineers, who govern the Deming Prize in Japan.
