== Commas ==

I'm going to go ahead and let your undoing of my edit stand because it's not actively wrong to have a comma in there. But the fact remains that dates *in American form* always have a comma: "On June 19, 1986, ..." In *European form* the comma is extraneous and unnecessary. The Misplaced Pages Style Guide makes this clear and Mary Norris, the New Yorker copyeditor, suggested on Twitter switching to the American form so "you don't have to decide if the phrase is restrictive". I'd switch to the American date form but, again as per the Misplaced Pages Style Guide, since the article is about a Dutch hero, dates should be in the form used in the country of the subject.

Again I would ask where in that list of commas usage on that link I posted you'll find there should *always* be a comma following a date. Your examples -- "In 1945 comma..." "On Wednesday comma..." "On 2 November 1956 comma..." -- should each be comma-free. This isn't comma-n sense (nice pun, by the way -- I mean that sincerely) but proper punctuation.

Misplaced Pages is overrun with too many commas. I'll admit I've been getting possibly overzealous regarding removal of them but I think in this case I'm absolutely right.

A brownie for you!

In an attempt to bury the hatchet, and hopefully move forward with positive and cohesion in our editing! Plus... brownies are yummy! livelikemusic 01:57, 20 February 2015 (UTC)

Thank you. I can't say as I've mastered the art of sending brownies quite yet so you'll have to forgive for not sending one back. Cebr1979 (talk) 02:02, 20 February 2015 (UTC)
