Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Rettetast: No one was asking for it to be protected pre-emptively. At the time this request was made, there was already a "high level of IP additions that can be considered vandalism and original research" which has since continued because of you making the wrong call and not taking the time to look through this properly.Cebr1979 (talk) 19:29, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Indefinite Semi-protection: This page just stopped being under protection (the expiry date just passed). However, this group is now in the process of releasing their first album and fans/IPs are adding and changing information as they see fit without sources. This is mainly due to the sudden spike in rumors surrounding the group due to their upcoming debut through a popular and successful agency. Requesting indefinite page protection to help keep page clean from unsourced and unfounded good-faith edits and from the vandalism that usually plagues k-pop pages. Today's featured article always has vandalism. The debate around if and when to protect it has been discussed to death, and it's instead decided on a case by case basis. We try our best to avoid protecting the spotlight article on a project where "anyone can edit". I would protect it without question if it weren't TFA. And yes, school is almost out in the US, which generally means less vandalism — MusikAnimal 19:54, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
