UK Asylum applications
I wanted to update the graph you made of asylum applicants to the UK up to 2014. The original data has disappeared into gov.uk and the government has passed over the collection of stats to Eurostat which only publishes monthly figures. I've totted these up for 2008 to 2015/9.
- Year Total Count First Fcount
- 2008 0 12 31290 12
- 2009 31675 12 30645 12
- 2010 24340 12 22620 12
- 2011 26915 12 25875 12
- 2012 28795 12 27890 12
- 2013 30585 12 29640 12
- 2014 32790 12 32125 12
- 2015 19295 9 19065 9
The 2008 figure don't exactly tie in - they only give first time applicants not total for 2008, though the difference isn't great.
Can you update your graph? If you don't have the time, I could do it though finding the data on the NSO website is a pain so if you can give me the original figures it would help. Chris55 (talk) 10:45, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Chris55. Are you sure that Eurostat now collects the data rather than simply publishes it? I would have thought only the Home Office could collect it. There is Home Office data from 1984 on here, which tallies with that I used to create the chart. I'm happy to update it myself if you give me a day. Cordless Larry (talk) 12:12, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- You're right - Eurostat is (obviously) only doing the publication. I was deceived by this turnoff. But you're obviously more practiced than me at chasing these! I note the 2008 figures are the same as above to <100. I'm very happy to leave it to you. Chris55 (talk) 12:23, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
- Done, Chris55. I've also updated the chart description and source at Modern immigration to the United Kingdom. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:47, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

edit explanation
Hi Cordless Larry, I see you reverted my edit on Irish migration to Great Britain, may I ask why? I removed a refimprove template from 2010: since then the references section has been vastly improved, so I thought I could take it away...--Navarco (talk) 17:17, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Navarco. There are lots of sources listed in the bibliography, I agree, but what the article is lacking is inline citations that indicate which parts of the article are supported by each of the sources. Perhaps a better template would be {{More footnotes}}, thinking about it. Cordless Larry (talk) 17:28, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
- I see, I'm sorry!--Navarco (talk) 11:19, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
- No need to apologise, Navarco. As I conceded above, I may have restored the template to the article when an alternative one would have been more appropriate. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:48, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Expertise needed at Maus
You know much more about current and historical usage concerning ethnicity than I do. I wonder if you'd care to join the discussion at Talk:Maus#best terms for groups of people? I should warn you, there's just been a difficult discussion at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#POV-pushing abuse of sourcing at Maus but the tone at Talk:Maus is now much milder and more constructive, and I suspect your participation would help keep it that way. NebY (talk) 19:46, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, NebY. It's an interesting discussion and I've posted a comment. Cordless Larry (talk) 20:35, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
mirpuri page edit
I understand your comment about the lack of specific mention of Mirpur but my edit was more relevant to the current situation of forced marriages than the original statements which you possibly didn't notice had weakness of sources too! eg "According to the British Home Office, as of 2000, more than half the cases of forced marriage investigated involve families of Pakistani origin, followed by Bangladeshis and Indians."The reference given gives no mention of Mirpur. "The Home Office estimates that 85 per cent of the victims of forced marriages are women aged 15–24, 90 per cent are Muslim, and 90 per cent are of Pakistani or Bangladeshi heritage" has a reference which has no mention of Mirpur or even of Azad Kashmir. Maybe you would prefer to remove the whole paragraph? The quoted sources are no better than mine and less relevant in 2015. Thanks for your attetion...quality should be maintained in this Wiki. Grahamcole (talk) 23:10, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- True, Grahamcole, but them there's the sentence "60 per cent of forced marriages by Pakistani families are linked to the small Potohari towns of Bhimber and Kotli and the Potohari city of Mirpur", so one could argue that the sentence you quote is just setting the context for the material on Mirpuris. I was a bit concerned that this section consisted of synthesis, but the source is discussing the issue as it relates to migration to the UK. The section could probably do with rewording, though. Thank you for your earlier answer to my Teahouse question! I've sent you an email, asking for help with an issue. I've added your page to my watchlist, but would really appreciate if you'd send any reply via my email (which I've enabled) rather than on a public page. Disambiguation link notification for November 21
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Australian diaspora, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bloomberg (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
