Kpjas' RFA

Hi Nishkid!

On Kpjas' RFA, you have voted oppose based on his apparent lack of experience ("Lack of edits to user_talk and Misplaced Pages spaces even though he/she's been here since 2001"). In fact, Kpjas is already an admin on the Polish Misplaced Pages, and has 37,000 edits there, including 2,600 to WP space over there. You have voted oppose based on inexperience in WP space, but these facts clearly indicate plenty of experience in the required areas. Nishkid, you want an experienced editor for admin. Kpjas is clearly experienced. Without badgering you, I urge you to reconsider your vote in this particular RfA. Happy editing! :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 07:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey Nishkid,
Thanks for reviewing Kpjas' RFA, and your nice note on my talk page. I'm really glad you decided to change your vote. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 14:44, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Berwick, Ontario

What I took out was juvenile nonsense -- please look at it before you add it back in. Thanks, NawlinWiki 16:08, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

I was reverting the guys edits with VP, and I guess my revertion came right after yours, so it basically reverted your vandalism revertion. Anyhow, sorry if I caused you any trouble. It was purely unintentional.--Nishkid64 16:11, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Berwick, Ontario

hey stop giving me random messages about berwick I didn't write that story of the ringworm...so leave me alone and take your fancy editing and annoyance elsewhere

I told you I didn't write it, IP's change...I didn't even know Berwick ontario existed until now. \cheers, from British Columbia.

New userboxes

I have deleted a userbox template you recently created, as userboxes should no longer be created in templatespace per the terms of the German userbox solution. Here is the userbox code so that you can recreate the userbox in your userspace ("userfying") if you wish.

aight, I could see why you would come after me, but anyways the vandalism is reverted, so leave me alone, I'll get a new IP address soon enough anyways... Cheers from British Columbia

Your edit on 'train spotting'

I object to your edit of my contribution, good sir. If you look at http://orangecow.org/pythonet/sketches/camel.htm, you will see that that particular Python sketch is different from how it was summed up in the article. Please change it or rephrase it after seeing or reading this sketch. It is not nonsense. This time I am not playing around with you people, I wish to contribute. If you can forgive me, please look into the matter before calling it nonsense.

Please look at my link and you will see the inaccuracy of my original pop culture post.

My edit to Grand Theft Auto 2

Greetings. Regarding your revert and assertion of vandalism to my contribution to the article on Grand Theft Auto 2. I do not mind so much about the revert, and wouldn't have given it a second thought if it had simply been a revert - it wasn't critical information anyway, and I likely would have assumed it was simply due to space constraints or a personal decision about what is important or necessary and what is not. I do, however, wonder why it is considered vandalism or "nonsense" as you have described it. I have not defaced the article, nor have I inserted unrelated or offensive information, or deliberately made a bad-faith edit of any kind. I added a sentence to the description of a picture to more comprehensively illustrate (so I felt, at any rate) to any viewers thereof, the nature of the scene depicted. If you would be so kind as to cite a precedent for not adding minor amounts of relevant or at least harmlessly semi-relevant information to an article, or give your personal views on why this in particular was something that could not simply have been solved by a simple deletion of the added information, I would be very much grateful. If you do not feel this is necessary, or that your actions were self-evidently motivated, I will not bring this issue up again, as I do not see it as major, aside from the fact that I do prefer to at least have an idea what I have unwittingly done to harm an article, so that I may avoid doing so at some later point. Thank you for your time. 216.129.211.105 15:48, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

blocking User:83.26.24.55

You and I edit-conflicted on his talk page, and I had already blocked him. He had already been warned several times today, including a "last warning", and so I thought the entry-level {{bv}} template was somewhat misleading. (Especially the part that says "Welcome to Misplaced Pages" :-) ) Because he was already blocked at the time you left the warning, I figured it was better to remove it. Cheers, FreplySpang 16:50, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Edit reversion

Hello,

The edit I made which you referred to as nonsense is in fact correct information -- it can be verified by following the "Toplist" link included at the end of the wikipedia article.

Oh wow...sorry about that. I thought that was a joke. --Nishkid64 17:37, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Erm...it took you 22 days to notice that I gave you a warning for posting nonsense on a Misplaced Pages article? O.o I'm so scared. What are you going to do? Spam my user talk page? hahaha... --Nishkid64 21:24, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thanks so much for your kind words. I really appreciate them, as well as the barnstar.

Sorry about stealing your edits! I'm sure I'm not diminishing your abilities to help out the project, though. I've noticed you reporting a lot of vandals, so thanks for that on behalf of us other RC patrollers.

Deville's RfA

File:Scarlettanager99.jpg Hello, Nishkid, and thank you for the support on my recent RfA. The final tally was 72/1/0, and I have now been entrusted with the mop. I'll be tentative with the new buttons for a while, and certainly welcome any and all feedback on how I might be able to use them to help the project. Important

Why did you change my additions that I added to the article on Venice. They were nothing but facts. WEENER!

It wasn't me. Look at the article history. I didn't even make any edits to the page. I was going to revert your spam, but Dina beat me out. Besides...you were just blanking pages and adding random nonsense. Those are not called facts. --Nishkid64 15:39, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

vandalism?

i was just reported for Vandalism on the Dream page for adding after the Torah (Known as the Old Testament in Christianity.) You might disagree with its place in the article but i think its fair.

The Torah is the same as the Old Testament? That's news to me. (I'm not Christian or Jewish) I thought you were vandalizing. Sorry about that! I'll remove the warning asap. --Nishkid64 00:18, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

er

Thanks, and it was partially my mistake, the Torah is onle the first 5 books of the Christian Old Testament

Thanks for the welcome

Hi Nishkid64,

Thanks for the welcome to an anonymous user.. made me feel welcome. I'm actually quite familiar with Misplaced Pages, although I've been out of the loop for a while. Forgot the password to my named account (User:Kander) and no longer have access to the associated mail address, so I figured I'd go anonymous until I remember the password again :/. BTW: Your instructions on my talk page mention signing with tildes... is that recommended also when working anonymously?

Victor Willis Edit

Hi, I just attempted to enter a correction and somehow I mistakenly removed that very nice box. I did not intend to. Please accept my apology. Hopefully it can be fixed right away. Thanks. Victor is listed as a "dancer" he is not a dancer. I also attempted to add his additional occupation as "actor," because he's a former Broadway star. I would never vandalize anyone else's contribution. Again, please accept my apology. Thanks,

Oh wow...I'm terribly sorry about that. I actually was trying to welcome you to Misplaced Pages but I guess I pressed the wrong button. I actually should apologize to you, not you to me. --  Nishkid64   Contribs  21:25, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Teke's RfA thanks

Thank you for your support of my RfA, which has passed with a final tally of 76/1/1. With this overwhelming show of support and approval I am honored to serve Misplaced Pages in the task charged to me and as outlined in my nomination. Happy editing to you! Teke 17:11, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Your signature

Your signature is rather huge and rather distracting. It also makes it difficult when one is editing. You may wish to go back to the previous version of your signature, which was somewhat less obtrusive. Please refer to the guidelines on "important considerations" about signatures. Your signature

Is a bloody eye-sore! Catchpole 20:24, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

My poor eyes. It's the garish colour I object to. It's akin to a toddler scrawling in crayon across a textbook. Note this is purely my opinion. Catchpole 20:35, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

What's so bad about it is that it needs this amount of text:

<span style="border: 2px solid purple;">]''']'''</span>

Compared to a normal signature:

]

This is unnecessary server and download time, and makes it harder for other users to read through the edit box. Isn't that a bit inconsiderate?

Tyrenius 00:50, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Look, I just want to say that I'm not going to do anything about your sigs if you carry on using them, but I've seen the above objection raised by Tony Sidaway about another long sig. He just went to the settings and changed the code. My post is for information only. If you carry on using it, you might suddenly find it's vanished. If you want to be on the safe side, I guess you could raise the matter on WP:AN. Then if you get a consensus, you'll be rock solid. Tyrenius 16:08, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
It was most... eye-catching, that's for sure! I think you should have a display of your signatures on your user page. :) Tyrenius 21:03, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

"Passing" the Google Test

Please actually read Misplaced Pages:Google Test. It explains at length why one cannot say that something "passes" the Google Test without qualification. Counting Google hits is not research. Research involves actually reading the web pages that Google locates. A Google search is a research tool, not a measuring device. So don't count hits; cite sources. Uncle G 21:40, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

regarding article and warning

Perhaps I should've explained it the first time, but I was NOT trying to vandalize by adding a notiability tag to that article (and personally I fail to see why adding a notability tag to an article about a rather insignificant and obscure character from a game is considered vandalism anyway). Anyway, as implied above I feel the article does not merit encyclpedic merit. The only thing I want to say is that I think it was extremely rude of you to warn me like that, especially since I'm an unregistered user with little powers to reply in kind other than to type this message - which goes to show the elitism this place tends to have 24.9.10.235 02:12, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

adding references and critique of subject through talk

Where do you cite references. Often I use Science articles cause I have every issue since 1983. Is there any copywrite issues? Also when one is not happy with the balance of a subject or a lacking of information ,how do you best address it? Should I post criticisms in talk and if so where do you put comments? It all can be quite confusing, also I am having some vision problems right now. Oh yeah, It will take me a while to figure it all out, so please be patient. I just saw comments on my talk that I hadn't noticed. Thanks for any help. I'll find time to read more info as soon as I can. I like the idea of Wiki, but it also scares me that misinformation could be posted. I see you are addressing my concerns. GetAgrippa

Hi, GetAgrippa! I appreciate you taking the time to figure out everything on Misplaced Pages before editing. Usually, an article has a section called "References" or "Sources" at the bottom. When you add some information (like here), specifically to science articles, you usually need to cite a source from a book or the internet. Although I think using a book source is the best reference, an internet source is used most predominantly. Please let me know what are these science articles that you're referring to. Also, read WP:Citing sources, which can help you when you're trying to add material to an article page. Remember not to copy word for word, but to paraphrase or re-write the information using the general ideas of the source. I personally can't answer your copyright issues question, but read WP:COPYRIGHT to get an idea about your problem's solution.
Okay, to answer your second question, I just want to tell you that you should always discuss on the talk page. If you feel that the article is not up to par, then you should post messages on the article's talk page telling what you personally think is the problem and what should be done. When doing this, make a new section heading like "==Problem with article== " and then address your problem with the article and then sign the article with ~~~~, which automatically puts down your signature and time of edit. If you feel an article is lacking information, I suggest you use sources (like the internet or a book) and then add the information to the page and then add a reference so people will know where that information you added came from.
On a talk page, you post all new topic comments on the bottom of the page , not at the top or middle (as you did here). Feel free to speak your mind and honestly tell other users what your issue is. People will always be willing to listen and discuss with you.
Also, there usually is a orange message box at the top of your screen that says "you have a new message" any time someone posts a message on your user talk page. Be sure to read the message and reply back (if needed) as soon as possible.
Heh, I totally understand how the fact that anyone can edit Misplaced Pages is pretty scary. But, you have to deal with it. That's why there are lot of people, like myself, who spend their time fighting vandals on Misplaced Pages, by reverting their edits and to make Misplaced Pages safe from people who just want to ruin this trusted and top-notch Internet encyclopedia.
Okay, well I hope I answered your questions. If you are confused about anything I said above or have more questions, feel free to contact me on my user talk page.
Also, whenever your posting on a user talk page or an article talk page, sign your comment with ~~~~. You don't have to manually type out your name every time you edit.
Happy editing!

Regarding Oro-Con

Hi, the user re-made Oro-Con and I tagged it for speedy deletion since he remade an article that was previously deleted.

He says he got permission from the company's website, but I said that the company is non-notable so it doesn't warrant an article on Misplaced Pages.

I just wanted to let you know, and to see if I did the right thing.

EDIT: I removed the speedy deletion tag after reading the user talk page and the article's talk page. It's not a notable company. EDIT2: Article just got deleted.

Indeed it seems you are right - but the guy has so few ghits, and the article is so poorly written that it was definitely suspicious. (|-- UlTiMuS 00:08, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Heh yeah. I was suspicious at first too. So then I Googled it and just so happened to see that the guy was listed on a Misplaced Pages article. If that hadn't happened, I would have surely thought it was a hoax, too. --Nishkid64 00:12, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Response

Like you said, I should've made it clear as to my reasons why (I did so with some of the articles I tagged, and I didn't tag all the C&C character articles so I thought it might be more obvious that I'm not just trying to vandalize), and I should also point out that I was trying to use a VFD tag but the notability was really the closest I could find. I'm sorry for any confusion I caused. 24.9.10.235 03:43, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Format of citations

I am having a difficult time figuring the format for citations. Here are some of my post in the cancer heading and the references. Perhaps you could show me one. Do you place references at the end and it format correctly and inserts appropriately? Most have multiple authors how do you address in text? GetAgrippa 11:46, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

The Warburg effect is the preferential use of glycolyisis for energy to sustain cancer growth. p53 has been shown to regulate the shift from the respiratory to the glycolytic pathway. Synthesis of Cytochrome c Oxidase 2 (SCO2) has been recognized as the downstream mediator of this effect. SCO2 is critical for regulating the cytochrome c oxidase complex within the mitochondria, and p53 can disprutpt the SCO2 gene. P53 regulation of SCO2 and mitochondrial respiration may provide a possible explanation for the Warburg effect. Knudson’s two hit model has recently been challenged by several investigators. Inactivation of one allele of some tumor suppressor genes is sufficient to cause tumors in tumor suppressor genes This phenomena is called haploinsufficiency and has been demonstrated by a number of experimental approaches. The main viruses associated with human cancers are human papillomavirus, hepatitis B virus, Epstein-Barr virus, and human T-lymphotropic virus. Okay, to show you an example of how to use references, see the article I made called Gardasil. Right here you can see a reference:
Gardasil also may be used in preventing HPV 16/18-caused anal cancer.
If you click that subscript 1, that will link down to References and if you click 1 on References you will get the source of the previous text. Now you may ask how I did that reference. Here:
<ref name="AnalCancer"> , Edwin J. Bernard, AIDSmap, ], 2005 (Accessed ], 2006) </ref>
The ref name can be whatever you really want to title it (has to make a bit of sense though). Then you add the URL and then space and add the title of the article which will carry down over to the Reference section of the article. You then add "]," and add authors and website. Then you add the date it was created, and then date it was accessed. Then you close the reference by doing </ref>.
Then at the bottom of an article, if a reference section has not already been made, you just add ==Reference== and under that you write <references/>.

That's how I do URL. There's an easier way to do it, in which you don't have to worry about all this reference stuff. After the section of information you added, just add , and then you're set. This is probably much easier, but I just wanted to tell you because some articles have lots of lots of sources in the reference form, and it's usually best to follow that format.
An example of another way to reference (just like I showed from Gardasil above) can be seen here:
A billion articles is a thousand million<ref name="million">{{
