Just for my personal interest, and seeing as though I have been administrating some many religious battles - I was wondering if people thought I was running a personal attack policy in a biased way due to religious POV. So I'm holding a survey to see if I am indulging in religious bias.
What is my religious affiliation?
Very serious comments about possible bias in my actions are welcomed

I am really amazed how all Indian disputed end up at your page. This "Cool as a Cucumber" award is in appreciation of the excellent work you are doing. Tell me when you stand for ArbCom! :)- Aksi_great (talk - review me) 15:06, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

- I still intend to go to India someday. It's still on my userpage list for the travel part. I was aware of the large diversity of political, religious and linguistic views in India and regionalism before I got here. It's not like Australia where there are two political parties, one language, more or less one religion,..etc. Blnguyen | rant-line 03:03, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- It isn't as conflicting as it appears on Misplaced Pages. Most people in India are tolerant of other faiths. Many Hindus and Sikhs go to Gurudwaras and Mandirs respectively. They also are proud of the Taj Mahal. All the Jews and Parsis while escaping persecution came to India because of its tolerance of different cultures. The diversity is in fact one of the most beautiful things about the nation. Gizza 07:22, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- No, of course not, people get on well, amazingly so - India is probably one of the few countries, if not the only one where people from minority groups are voluntarily allowed anywhere near leadership positions, let alone hold them such as Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and the Muslim president. For many countries things are so politicised I don't think that a minority group would even be allowed to become a captain of a sport team like Mansoor Ali Khan or Mohammad Azharuddin. But WP does provide an irresistably opportunity to try and push POV and soapbox for those who are unfond the wonderful linguistic and religious mosaic of India. Blnguyen | rant-line 01:51, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'd like to add my thanks as well. You've taken on several trying tasks, and are accomplishing them with admirable even-handedness. Hornplease 21:25, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Response requested
I had reported comments to you from Neta earlier too. And got no reponse. Then I had posted these comments 2 days later on islamic fundamentalism page. Including the details of the user who posted them. Today the user deleted them, so I put the comment back. And you have removed them again so I would like to ask you a question. Here is some of what Neta had said on my talk page "There is only one kind of Islam. The kind that blows things up" and " I'm not upset about fundamentalism in Islam because there is no fundamentalism in Islam. Islam ITSELF is 'fundamentalist', in the sense of Intolerance, Slaughter, Looting, Arson, Molestation of women, ie I-S-L-A-M."
My question is :-Are these comments on Islam made by a user acceptable as per wiki ettiquette ? Haphar 15:26, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
- If you look at my history, and my userpage, I don't edit on weekends. You'll see that you posted that on late Friday, and then I didn't come back until the 24th and then got sick for a week and didn't get back until the 1st of August (see User_talk:Blnguyen/Archive14) and thought that it would have died down by then. Secondly, you report personal attacks for action, not on pages reserved for discussion of article content unless you want to escalate the personal battles instead of quality content or you want a massive war like what happened after this kind of nonsense at Misplaced Pages:Miscellany for deletion/User:AMbroodEY/Fundy Watch. Blnguyen | rant-line 01:52, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- It was reported to an admin ( you) who for whatever reason did not respond. But all the above is a digression, If you could answer the question asked it would help. Let me repeat- Are these comments on Islam by a user acceptable as per wiki ettiquette ? Haphar 08:06, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the response, Another question You have posted the following case . There are some accusations made in the text, and though you are doing tasks for a blocked user Neta, should the unrealted to the case accusations not have been weeded out ? Haphar 18:19, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- I stated it verbatim as it is not my report. Furthermore, my comments to Hari Singh were not to condone personal attacks and civility, but it is an unfortunate fact that administrators are generally not held to account because in the past when this has happened it has often resulted in admins engaging in retaliatory block wars. Apart from 3RR which is cut and dry. Please do not twist my words as you have done on Woohookitty's page to indicate that I condone personal attacks and civility. Check my WP:RFA "voting" record. Blnguyen | rant-line 01:39, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

- I do not think anyone would question you as an admin for raising a checkuser report on your own. If it is not your report Neta can raise it when active again. If you think his request has merit you can raise it yourself without going in for "verbatim". You could have also asked him to reword it as it carries accusations not related to the complaint. In my opinion on an issue where all parties are asked to excercise restrain, to forward a complaint by Neta that makes unrelated accusations against me, (a party to the restrained from responding group) is not expected from an admin. Specially in light of you not taking action on issues reported to you about Neta's behaviour by me in the past. Haphar 13:31, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Matra Bagheera DYK
Hi Blnguyen, thanks for having mercy and updating the DYK! I understand you have taken off the Bagheera because you saw the notice on its talk page. Well, actually it was put on the DYK by mistake and (more or less promptly) removed, but the admins involved decided not to remove the template from the talk page, and hence the kerfuffle. I am sorry that you got confused. Is it possible for you to bring back the Bagheera so that it gets the rest of its due "air time"? Bravada, talk - 00:34, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot and excuse me for the kerfuffle. Btw, I guess we had a collection of rather lenghty DYKes this time. I try to take the guideline that says nominations should be "short and pithy" seriously, but I believe some nominators are pretty liberal about that. Or am I being unfair here? Info on deleted article
The Elaine Louise Zanutto article is currently at AfD (here). It appears to be a recreation of a previously-speedied article Elaine Zanutto. Could you check the history on Elaine Zanutto and let me know when it was originally created, by whom (I'm assuming it was User:MathStatWoman), and whether it is substantially the same text as the recreation? The newer one was created in somewhat curious circumstances (see here). Thanks - David Oberst 01:18, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. You mentioned on the AfD page that it was "created last week by the same author". This would be User:Ksingh20? I've been trying to figure out if that user (first edit on the 20th) is a sockpuppet of User:MathStatWoman, or some sort of meat-puppet/logrolling is going on (there is some connection with Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/SGGS on Meat). - David Oberst 01:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure on this one, but I'm leaning toward it being ok. Looks like a remarkable young man, but I'm a little uncertain as to his notability. He's too junior to be appropriately assessed per WP:PROF. Wasn't there a notability guideline on prodigies from way back? Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Kiwi Alejandro Camara may be relevant as a precedent. I'd still put it up for DYK (in-line cites would be great!). Semi-Protection
Could you possibly semi-protect this template: User:Daniel.Bryant/AUSeasonTemplate ...as an IP is continuing to remove links (which are added for consistency, and aesthetics) claiming that Misplaced Pages isn't a crystal ball. For peace's sake, it would be of benefit if it was protected for a few months so this ill-quoting IP doesn't continue to create inconsistancies between agreed-upon A-League season templates (as a project, we agreed to use the templates, and considering they agreed upon my initial version rather than that of the IP). Vandalism
- Hi. Are you the same BLnguyen with whom I chatted on irc a few hours ago? If you're not, then plz ignore this message. I'm still very new to wikipedia and am only getting the hang of this editing stuff.
I was reading the article on "Hinduism" (titled Hinduism) and noticed an anonymous user (like I was until now) putting edits that are very biased, pejorative and point-of-view-y. So I "reverted" them (I mean I went to the history page and clicked on the earlier version and saved it instead). Is this ok? I don't want to get into trouble or get anybody else into trouble so am asking you, since you seem like a nice guy (from what I read abt you in this talk page thing). I clicked on his contribs page and noticed a lot of other anti-Hindu edits that he has been making on Nazism articles, saying that Hindus are racist and like Nazis and such. I fixed those too and am watching this contribs page. I will paste it below:
http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Special:Contributions&limit=500&target=61.3.165.195
I read help pages on wikipedia and saw that I have to warn him with a template so I put subst:test3 in his talk page and warned him. Is this also ok? Thanks. Hkelkar 10:23, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I am, and he is now blocked for 1 month as everybody thinks it is the banned Anirudh77. In the case of extreme POV-commentary and OR, a user can be blocked, especially here he made the absurd claim that because the Nazis used the swastika etc, the Hinduism is responsible for it (presumably that applies to Buddhism also).Blnguyen | rant-line 01:42, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

User:Netscott
I unblocked him and reblocked him for 24 hours. 1 week was punitive and excessive. I discussed this on the #wikipedia-en-admins IRC channel with other admins prior to doing this and consensus was to do this for 24 hours. His previous blocking should not figure into his present situation. He's an otherwise good editor. Bastique▼ voir 02:59, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

- This user appealed on his talk page. He had reasonable arguments. 24 hours is standard. Regardless of past history. And users are treated to different standards. Bastique▼ voir 03:12, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

- JoshuaZ...you want to make a point. I mean, we don't block people to make points, do we? Bastique▼ voir 03:34, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Actually yes we do. This is precisely why blocks get longer as users repeat the same behavior- they aren't getting into their heads that their behavior is unacceptable. Thus the blocks get steadily longer to drive the point into their heads. Just because one is making a "point" doesn't make it a WP:POINT point. JoshuaZ 04:14, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Not unless you agree with the "point" being made apparently. On what basis is Netscott considered a "controversial editor" any moreso than Slim or Jay, who have their own histories. Please take this to wikien where there is much more discussion on the relevant topic. Editors who tag team others should not be rewarded with punitive powers - a week is excessively excessive given Netscotts consistent responsiveness on relevant talk and on wikien. -Ste|vertigo 04:08, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Hanoi Blogs
Hi,
I added links to Hanoi-related blogs on the Wiki "Hanoi" page, but these were deleted (I've re-added them since) in a revert. Since, according to Misplaced Pages, "Reverting should be used primarily for fighting vandalism," could you please explain this? Blogs by expats and locals provide valuable insight into the culture of a city and are an increasingly important feature of the WWW that people are coming to rely on for information. Thus, well-known blogs associated with any particular topic should be included on Misplaced Pages. The blogs I added are purely informational, non-commercial sites and are important to the Hanoi/Vietnam Internet culture for many.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hanoian (talk • contribs)
- Hello. Rollback is also used for deleting suspected linkspam. I looked at the blog and there were three posts in four months, which tells me that they are not notable, unless stated otherwise. Thanks, Blnguyen | rant-line 01:14, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. Only one of the blogs has so few posts because I accidently posted the old link; the others are very frequently updated and visited and are written by people who have interesting and important things to say about Hanoi--even Harvard's Global Voices links to three of them! I will update the link to one of them and hopefully you will allow them to remain on the page:) I was hoping to add more important blogs to the list by people who live/travel in/to Hanoi. Thank you.
BAP system
I have been too busy to login to wikipedia for a while, but when I looked for my page on BAP System, I couldn't find it. There was no record of it in my profile and I am sure it used to be there. There are still references to it. When I asked what happened, I was told that you deleted it due to a copyright problem for some image?!
I don't remember adding any image to it and I am wondering what image it was and why the image couldn't just have been deleted if there was indeed some image. Just deleting the entire page seems pretty drastic, especially since a lot of other pages link to it.
I apologize if I am not following the proper protocol as I have not had the time to become familiar with all the netiquette here, so if I did something wrong, please let me know. Is there a way to get the page back or do I have to write a new one?
Clint - Clint Ballard 02:18, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
So, you are saying it was deleted because it wasn't notable enough? I just found out that this happened and was not notified about any pending review period. While there have only been around half a dozen tournaments run with it, that is more than the Sophia rules. The BAP only applies to chess masters, so it is a relatively small universe. Have you polled chess masters to see if they know about BAP?
The following players are attending the GM Slugfest
GM Victor Mikhalevski 2670, top GM from Israel GM Varuzhan Akobian <http://www.akobian.com> 2660, world open winner GM Alexander Shabalov 2653, multiple time us champion GM Lubomir Ftacnik 2600, chessbase.com advisor GM Dmitry Gurevich 2583 GM Greg Serper 2575 IM Eric Tangborn 2475 IM John Donaldson 2452, captain of US olympic team
These are many of the top players in the country and even from over seas. There has been much discussion about it and the USCF board acknowledged that BAP tournaments can be rated.

Chessninja, Boylston and Chessmind are the top 3 chess blogs. How much more notoriety is needed? This is an obscure alternative to a way of scoring chess games. Not exactly front page news. Shouldn't top chess players be consulted about this? Who exactly determined that it was not well known enough? Do they even play competitive chess? Are they a master? Do they have an anti-BAP agenda like most chessplayers appear to?
I thought Misplaced Pages was not into censoring stuff that was not liked by the establishment.

P.S. There are only about 60 GM's in the entire United States, so 10% of them are playing in the BAP based GM Slugfest. Does it have to be 100%?

Matra Rancho
Blngyuen, thanks for choosing my DYK again. I must, however, express my deepest shock with the fact that it is not Matra Rancho but Ludwika Maria Gonzaga. What in the world was wrong with the Matra? And why again are DYKs from remote dates chosen rather than the oldest? I must say that if it was up to me, I would have chosen the Rancho over Ludwika Maria anytime, as I am really fond of my car DYKes, and Ludwika Maria was just a side job when I had no idea what car to expand/create an article on that time (and to add some diversity to my noms). There isn't a car DYK this time, there wasn't one before. In fact there isn't a single one on post-war France which could be seen as interfering with its topic. I am doing my best to submit articles which are quite expanded and to provide adequate photos, which sometimes takes me some time, and I really can't understand why I got passed over without a word of prior warning this time... :( Bravada, talk - 09:30, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
PS. The Rancho was create actually on the 23rd August my time (but 22nd your time, presumably, which is why I nominated it for that day), so it might still be eligible...
- I mean, it was in the 22nd section then, as I see most updating admins are from the time zone where it was the 22nd when I finished creating it and I tried to stick with "your" time when nomintaing (I tend to create most articles in the beginning of the "next day" my time). I used the dateline trick to reinstate it :D My problem is that when you pass a nomination, you should have a reasonf or that. The Rancho was gently and quietly sitting there for five days and nobody said a bad word about it, and then it suddenly gets skipped in favor or Ludwika Maria, who pops out of the blue. I see the rule of selecting the oldest noms first getting increasingly neglected and I believe it is a bad thing. If you believe the Rancho DYK is still not fit, do give me your opinion on what could be done better, and I'll try to fix it. Otherwise, please do not pass it next time (actually, of all the five oldest noms w/o "gripes", this is the only one with a pic, so I guess it could make a nice "standard bearer"). Regards, Bravada, talk - 23:45, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well thanks for saying that, but I am just one pesky user with a DYK fetish :D I also don't think I would make a good admin for a number of reasons, limited and irregular availability of time for the Wiki stuff included. I actually looked at some RfAs of some users around here out of curiosity sometime ago and I believe most of the people usually voting would be against, given what criteria they use (and I guess they are right in what they do). Last but not least, I believe that selecting one's own DYK nominations for DYK is rather improper. That said, BigHaz might be a much better prospective admin, give his reliability, unfalteringly kind manners and willingness to perform tidious and repetitive tasks. Bravada, talk - 00:11, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Need more administrators who write, definitely. Blnguyen | rant-line 01:34, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
- Now I think I have broken all records in "unethically pushing for own nom and image to appear in DYK", but thanks anyway! As a way of expressing gratitude, I wanted to dispense the notices you asked for in your edit summary, but seems like Samir got me halfway. You might want to check whether everything is OK in my edit history immediately prior to this entry. Regards, Bravada, talk - 02:02, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Images on DYK/the Main Page
If you are going to become fairly active in updating DYK, please remember to protect images that appear on this template. Anything that appears on the main page should be protected to prevent repeated vandalism and keep our welcome mat clean. See (WP:PPOL#Images protected while on the Main Page and Misplaced Pages:Main Page FAQ#Why am I not able to edit the Main Page? for more information).
The protection template for main page images is {{mprotected}}. However, there may be some that are actually stored on Commons — for those, you should upload a temporary copy here onto Misplaced Pages and add {{C-uploaded}}. All of these steps are listed near the top of Template talk:Did you know, the "To Administrators:" list. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 01:43, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

I find it hard to believe that someone would waste there time deleting things that are helpful..........obviously we have to prove our artists, in all seriousness are you telling me that a band can be deleted because you havent heard of them so they are not important?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Altered Beats (talk • contribs)
Im only annoyed as I had only put up the page for the band, yes we are their record label, they have a deal with us and Carhartte Clothing as well as having videos on MTV ESP and the fact that a worldclass percussionist is part of the band.......need I go on?

Yes I would definitely be intereseted. By the way, on a side note, could you be my admin coach if you have the time? For example, from time to time, you could make a detailed analysis about my edits and point out to me any of your concerns regarding this. Moreover, you could also advise me on the proper time to run for adminship again after three failures. You could also guide me to make my edits more constructive to further this purpose and make me a better editor of Misplaced Pages. Thank you so much for offering a listening ear in this matter and best of luck for the future! Dear Blnguyen,
I created a webpage about my Medical School but someone named Robo doc is has been posting trash about the school. - Done! Again, see my edit history after your notice on my talk page to see whether everything is fine. Excuse me for pestering you, as I said I couldn't find anybody else online (and seems like NOBODY reads Misplaced Pages:Main Page/Errors!!!) and I didn't want the poor Tagora to ruin the mainpage totally for 24 hours. Thanks a lot for assistance (and selecting my nom, btw) Bravada, talk - 04:14, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- PS. One thing occurred to me - I was quite surprised to see the Fiat 130 selected, as chronologically this was my latest nomination, a second car and Fiat in a row and that all on a day when a car is featured, but then I figured out that it was simply the last on the 27th or 28th and you ran out of earlier noms. This makes me wonder whether the "place your noms at the end of the date section" rule makes any sense, as then you end up taking the most recent noms first, rather than the other way around.
Wow
That sounds cool!! Thanks for the memento -- Lost 02:31, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Need advice with a possible issue with User:Holywarrior
- Hi. I remember you from our chat session and was hoping for some advice reagrding a problem that many of us are having with this user. I have made some well-sourced verifiable edits to the Kancha Ilaiah article and discussed with several users in the talk page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Kancha_Ilaiah ), who agree with me. Holywarrior, on the other hand, keeps deleting them, and has even violated 3RR to that effect in the past. He keeps giving bogus defwarns and threatens to report me and get me blocked. Please see his edit summaries:
http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Kancha_Ilaiah&action=history
He has also threatened to report me for 3RR violation (in another user's talk page) even though I have not made more than 3 reverts in 24 hours.
http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=User_talk%3ABen_W_Bell&diff=72835608&oldid=72595138
I have defended my case in the above post.
I have noticed this unfortunate trend of users getting other users blocked just by putting complaints without proper investigation even though complaints made against them may be unjustified. I'd like your advice on how I should deal with this matter. Thank you and have a nice day.Hkelkar 15:53, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Parthiv Patel
>> He is a left-handed batsman and is of a very short stature of 160cm.
What is the source for his height ? I had been looking around for this without success. Ramnath Parkar (5' 2") is the shortest Indian cricketer among those who played before 1980, and since then Patel is the only one of a similar height. It is possible that Patel grew up a few centimeters since his debut in 2002 so it is imporant to know when this came out.

The Voice (song) and Shir Habatlanim
Out of curiosity, I've just noticed some inconsistencies with the way you've been writing these up (specifically with Bravada's infobox). In the case of "The Voice", the infobox registered a semi-final position of 2 and a score of something or another, which is wrong since there obviously wasn't a semi-final in that year. In the case of "Shir Habatlanim", you'd written the article up with the song being in Hebrew (which is correct) but listed it in the infobox as being in German. I'm assuming this is just the result of being an admin and writing quality articles. BigHaz 09:06, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
