Shilpa Shetty(Tulu:ಶಿಲ್ಪ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ) (born 8 June 1975) is an Indian film actress who appears in Bollywood films. Her sister is actress Shamita Shetty. She is one of the tallest actresses in India standing at 5'11" tall.
Early life
She was born in coastal Karnataka, India in a Bunt family and is a native speaker of Tulu. She currently lives in Mumbai. She attended St Anthony Girls' High School in Chembur and then went to Podar College. She was the captain of the baseball team. She also has a green belt in karate. She is one of the tallest actresses in India with her height being 5'10".
Film career
Shilpa made her debut in the murder mystery, Baazigar (1993) with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The film was a great success. She also had a success with Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994). However, succeeding films -- of which she made many -- did less well at the box office. She won critical acclaim in 2004 with her performance as an AIDS vicitim Phir Milenge. Her 2005 film Dus was a popular success. She was also a part of Mani Ratnam's stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai.
She appeared with her sister in the film, Fareb.
She has been nominated three times for "Best Actress" at the Filmfare awards. She has also appeared in the PeTA India campaign ads.
