Reference errors on 10 January

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Ocelot (Metal Gear)

Hi, I'm 69.123.55.110 and I'd like to make Revolver Ocelot to Ocelot (Metal Gear) because the character "Ocelot" is general unlike Revolver Ocelot, Shalashaska, Major Ocelot etc.

69.123.55.110 7:00, January 11 2017 —Preceding undated comment added 00:12, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Same situation only make Big Boss to Naked Snake because it's unfair to Venom Snake as the two are symbiotically Big Boss.

Snowdrop (game engine)

Hi, I´m Psychedelic2004 and i would like to ask you, why you said that Snowdrop (game engine) is "not independently notable" engine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Psychedelic2004 (talkcontribs)

@Psychedelic2004: Because reliable sources only cover the game engine when discussing Tom Clancy's The Division, which is the only game to use this engine. This information should just merged into the development section of The Divison article. I don't see any reason to split off a separate article yet. --The1337gamer (talk) 15:23, 14 January 2017 (UTC)

Request for opinion

Sir, can I request your opinion on the discussion "Timeline of computer security hacker history" which is located on my talk page? Please leave your opinion/comments on my talk page instead of here if you have one. Mdikici4001 (talk) 02:49, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

GAN review swap

Would you be interested in doing a GAN review swap? If you're up for it, I'll do a review of Colin McRae Rally in exchange for one of either Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine or Steins;Gate Drama CD Alpha, Beta, and Gamma.--IDV 08:56, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

@IDV: To be honest, I'm probably not the best person to review them as I don't really know anything about those series. I only tend to review or read entire articles on stuff that I'm familiar with or interested in. I've also got a backlog of stuff to work on at the moment. Sorry. --The1337gamer (talk) 18:24, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
No worries, just figured I'd ask since you also have a GAN up right now.--IDV 18:39, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

I believe "The Twisted Ones" should have an individual page.

It seems you redirected the "Five Nights at Freddy's: The Twisted Ones" page for the following reason:

Random user post on reddit is not a reliable source. Fails WP:NBOOKS. Cover it in the series article and split out if and when it becomes independently notable.

First of all, the source was not the post on reddit. It was the comment that the creator of the book made, confirming its legitimacy.

Secondly, in what way is this book not "independently notable"? It's a completely different book, so should need a completely differet page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WackyWikiWoo (talkcontribs) 03:41, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

@WackyWikiWoo: Read WP:NBOOKS. Pay attention to the criteria section. It clearly doesn't meet any of these criteria. The book has no coverage whatsoever from reliable independent sources. So it should not have a separate article. --The1337gamer (talk) 09:07, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
The1337gamer, can I restore the page once the book comes out? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WackyWikiWoo (talkcontribs) 10:07, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
@WackyWikiWoo: You can restore it when it meets WP:NBOOK. If it gets restored and I don't think it meets the notability criteria for books then I'll nominate it for deletion. I would suggest writing a section in the FNAF series article for now.--The1337gamer (talk) 10:18, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
The1337gamer, deleted again I see. Could you give me a bit more of an explanation of WP: Books? Say, how does Five Nights at Freddy's: The Silver Eyes meet the criteria? Hopefully that'll give me a better understanding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by WackyWikiWoo (talkcontribs)
@WackyWikiWoo: WP:BKCRIT explains this. Reliable sources need to discuss the significance of the book. Reviews from professional critics and stuff like that. Most novels based on video game series are not notable enough to have separate articles because they are not subject to independent coverage. --The1337gamer (talk) 13:19, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
The1337gamer, does this count? http://www.idigitaltimes.com/five-nights-freddys-twisted-ones-book-sequel-gets-plot-summary-cover-price-582390 — Preceding unsigned comment added by WackyWikiWoo (talkcontribs) 10:09, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
@WackyWikiWoo: It's helpful for confirming the existence of the book. But one source is not enough to establish notability. You need significant coverage from reliable sources. If there aren't enough sources discussing the book independently from the series, then there is no reason to have a separate article. --The1337gamer (talk) 10:17, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

Followup on your revert of my ...

Hi. Thank you for this notification. I object to being "templated" as if I was a n00b, but I appreciate the notification; my removal of the talk page post was inadvertent. I did a test, re-created the situation, and wrote a followup at my talk page, so if you want to know how such a revert can be unintentional, there it is. Thanks again. Jeh (talk) 21:40, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

When will the "Five Nights at Freddy's (series) page be eligible for the "citations needed" tag removal?

I have spent a lot of time adding various citations to the page, and I'm wondering when it will be enough to remove the tag from the page? I want to ask so that an edit war doesn't begin adding and deleting the tag, so when will you be satisfied?

Thanks. WackyWikiWoo (talk) 09:17, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

  • @WackyWikiWoo: You nominated the article for Good article status. If you check the criteria for good articles, you'll see that 2. says "Verifiable with no original research:". This means every statement should be supported by reliable sources. Large parts of the article have no citations which is why I added the refimprove tags. Even with the improvements you've made since, there is still a lot of work to do. Every sentence should be sourced and I still see many paragraphs without citations. I personally think the GA nomination should be withdrawn until sourcing issue is resolved because it will immediately fail with the cleanup banner still there. ---The1337gamer (talk) 18:54, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
The1337gamer, could you give me a guideline on when you think the sourcing issue would be resolved? At least one reference for each paragraph? I can't improve it if I don't know what needs work. I've removed the GA nomination for now, but I think this article could potentially be one if we resolve whatever problems you think it has. I am in no way saying that you are wrong, but please let me know what I can do. Thanks, WackyWikiWoo (talk) 02:15, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The1337gamer wrote above: One reference per sentence. Every claim of fact. Jeh (talk) 03:34, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
Jeh, what? That is much too drastic. Many featured articles don't even have that many! WackyWikiWoo (talk) 13:08, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
@WackyWikiWoo: Read WP:V, it is Misplaced Pages policy. Articles should not contain unsourced information. A reader should be able to able to verify all material in an article with reliable sources. Note that not every sentence needs a citations. The lead (opening paragraph) does not require citations as it is meant to summarise information that is already sourced in the following sections. --The1337gamer (talk) 13:15, 4 February 2017 (UTC)
@WackyWikiWoo: An absolute bare minimum would be one sentence per paragraph - assuming the article uses paragraphs according to the usual rules of English expository text, with each paragraph pertaining to at least one claim of fact, having an introductory sentence, discussion, and a concluding sentence. But excluding, as The1337gamer says, paragraphs of the lede. Also, an introductory or concluding graf of a section might be able to rely on the references elsewhere in the section. But the general rule of "every claim of fact should be referenced" still applies.
Yes, many Misplaced Pages articles fail to meet this standard. But a lot of Misplaced Pages was written before the WP:V and WP:RS policies were paid as much "drastic" attention as they are now. And that is one reason that Misplaced Pages has a reputation as "not reliable." Referencing to this standard does make for a lot of work, but the satisfaction of finishing a really solidly-referenced article (and, in many cases, having really carefully examined what you think you know and finding out whether it's backed up by solid references) is correspondingly large. It is admitted that a) this does make it harder to write articles, and b) Misplaced Pages is less attractive to editors as a result, and c) some topics just can't be covered here at all, if references can't be found for their key claims of fact. Oh well. We don't want Misplaced Pages to be easy to write for. Not any more. Jeh (talk) 10:25, 5 February 2017 (UTC)

The1337gamer, it took a while, but I think I've added enough citations to have the alert tag removed. Please tell me this is enough. If not, which sections could be improved? This article has a lot of "good article" (maybe even featured article) potential, and I just want to get that alert tag out to have a better chance. WackyWikiWoo (talk) 07:39, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

@WackyWikiWoo:. Removed the tag. The sourcing is significantly better than before. Good job. --The1337gamer (talk) 09:12, 12 March 2017 (UTC)

Recent edit to Scud Race

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. I noticed that you removed some content from Scud Race without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Misplaced Pages with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! About my reverted contribution

Hello there. First of all I want to clear that i am not a troll or anything like that. I just want to add information on pages that are missing (like every editor do on this website). I am not saying i am an editor i would say i am a volunteer. Now concerning an edit that i did on a page called "Junichi Masuda" you deleted it 2 times saying that is not relevant. You see, the "digital audio workstation" that i added may not be an instrument but its a tool that can be used to make music. And Masuda uses it to do so. Now if i did this edit wrong and must be added to a another section of the page please tell me. Thank you :). — Preceding unsigned comment added by BigDim (talkcontribs)

  • @BigDim: I did not delete the edit saying it was not relevant. If you read my edit summary it says "not an instrument". It should be pretty obvious that only instruments should be listed under the instruments parameter, hence why I removed it. I'll also point out that what you added was not reliably sourced and information on Misplaced Pages should be verifiable by reliable sources (WP:V, WP:RS). If you want to add it elsewhere in the article with a reliable source supporting the addition, then go ahead. --The1337gamer (talk) 16:46, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
@BigDim: I don't know. Maybe in the Career or Influences and style section. It depends on what you want to say. What is the exact sentence you want to add? --The1337gamer (talk) 17:23, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
@The1337gamer: i want to add that he uses digital audio workstation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BigDim (talkcontribs)
@BigDim: You got a reliable source that supports the addition? --The1337gamer (talk) 17:36, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
@The1337gamer: Yes but its a uploaded video. Does this matter? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BigDim (talkcontribs)
@BigDim: Link me the vid. I'd like to verify it is a reliable source before the information is added. --The1337gamer (talk) 17:47, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
@The1337gamer: https://freshlive.tv/ymjsoundroster/68859 Its in japanese but you can clearly see masuda with go ichinose showing how they made some music themes in Pokemon Sun and Moon — Preceding unsigned comment added by BigDim (talkcontribs)
@BigDim: That source seems fine. --The1337gamer (talk) 18:15, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
@The1337gamer: Uh thank gosh! Can i add it now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BigDim (talkcontribs)
@BigDim: I guess. Although it might seem a little trivial to just write "He uses a digital audio workstation." Try to write a bit more about the production and processes he uses to create music in his games. --The1337gamer (talk) 18:23, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

About Leadwerks (game engine) page

Thank you for alerting me to a possible COI with my contributions to the page above. A few years ago a page existed for this topic that was very badly written, and I had a hands-off approach to it. The old page was eventually deleted due to being incomplete, poor grammar, and outdated information. I authored a new page with plenty of third-party citations that lays out the history and description of the subject in an objective manner, without being promotional in tone. I think this serves as a solid basis for the community to continue editing. Josh Klint (talk) 16:42, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Gladiolus Amicitia

Hi there. Looking at the article I do not necessarily agree with your assessment concerning its notability. While I do not edit frequently within this area of the encyclopedia (and could not find a subject specific portion of the notability policy) after doing a few minutes of digging I found a number of sources which either focus directly on the character or mention it in a non-trivial fashion. The current state of the article and its sourcing generally does not reflect upon its notability, rather if the information exists or not. From those, the sources already in the article, and other sources I stumbled across, the article appears to pass the general notability guidelines as some sources make non-trivial mentions and others focus on this character directly. I'm interested to hear your thoughts. Best, Mifter (talk) 02:48, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

@Mifter: None of those sources you've listed focus directly on the character. Read them. They don't discuss the design and development of the character, how the character has been received, the real world significance of the character. They cover the game's additional content that is centred around the character. That sort of coverage falls directly under the scope of game article (Final Fantasy XV), not a character article. WP:WAF exists to deter the creation of fictional characters or elements that are not independently notable from their work. Furthermore, there is already an existing article that covers the major characters in this game (Characters of Final Fantasy XV). I'm not seeing any reasons for why this character should be split out into a separate article. They have not been subject to significant coverage independent of the rest of the cast. The article should be merged with ensemble article. --The1337gamer (talk) 08:32, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification. I did read the links and while I still believe this article meets the GNG overall if your project has some other norm or standard for notability I'm not overly concerned as long as its evenly utilized (the main reason for my concern was that that article is up for DYK and we check for relevant maintenance tags and the article appeared to meet the GNG relatively easily). In regards to WP:WAF, that comes across to me as more of how to write about fiction, not if the fiction meets our notability guidelines. I would recommend talking to some of your colleagues and perhaps considering some field specific notability guidelines, rules of thumb, etc. and putting them someplace visible to make it clear what our policy is to help avoid future confusion or editors spending time expanding articles on characters that may not independently need their own article. • I've explained the revert on the talk page of every IP editor that has restored it each time. Per WP:V information on Misplaced Pages should be verifiable by reliable sources. Keep restoring unsourced information and it will get protected again. --The1337gamer (talk) 20:50, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

No, your just doing it to hassle and harass people. That's why you keep requesting them articles to be protected just to keep them your way. 2600:1000:B03A:D44A:81FF:8552:CCF4:184D (talk) 20:52, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Not true at all. IP editors have been adding false information to the article for months. I first requested the page to protected to prevent that and an admin refused because the filmography list was unsourced. The admin removed the unsourced filmography in this edit: . It was then protected when IP editors kept re-adding unsourced information. --The1337gamer (talk) 20:57, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Ya right, I've heard that story many times before. Well, that admin was wrong too. 174.192.32.199 (talk) 21:02, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Sonic the Hedgehog mods

Hey, I just wanted to ask you, could you try and help me start this page? It'd be like the Minecraft mods page; a page like it for the Sonic series would work well (it's been covered by many independent sources that pass WP:VG/S, like Kotaku and Destructoid). ~ TheJoebro64 (talk) 15:00, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) You might consider starting at Draft:Sonic the Hedgehog mods. -- ferret (talk) 15:12, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
  • @TheJoebro64: I don't follow Sonic games or their mod scene too closely. Most of the Sonic articles are on my watchlist because they are common targets of vandalism. Because of that, I'm not certain on the topic's notability or potential for a substantial independent article. I'd follow Ferret's advice and start working on a draft first. Then it's easier to get feedback and improvements from other editors and it's not at risk of getting deleted. --The1337gamer (talk) 16:34, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Cattle And Crops

Hey,

Added my response to Cattle and Crops, the page will be updated accordingly to the policies with added more information soon with references and sources to where the information is coming from. It isn't meant to be an advertising page for the game but to be added onto Misplaced Pages as it's a new farming simulator game coming out soon. It also is my first time creating and editing a page here and I strongly believe it should be kept. And I'm freely open to discussions on how to improve the page and keep it up accordingly. Joe Parkinson (talk) 14:28, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Installation 01

Hi, please stop removing the development image I have added to the Installation 01 page. It is not a copyright infringement as it was provided to me by the development team for use with this wiki page. Please inform me as to how I can make this clear to whoever it needs be made clear to, as it is up for "speedy deletion" already. The game is within Microsoft's content usage policy and uses NO assets owned by Microsoft - all were built from the ground up by the development team.

From their "About" section:

"We operate very carefully under Microsoft's Game Content Usage Rules. All of Installation 01's assets are either created from scratch or obtained through the Unity Asset Store. This means we'll have no issues distributing the game and its files upon release."

Thank you ItTakesTime (talk) 16:30, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

@ItTakesTime: It's copyrighted derivative work that attempts to reproduce assets from the Halo series. Microsoft's content license does not permit work based on the Halo series to be distributed under the Creative Commons License. It's not free, so it should not be on Commons without Microsoft's permission. So stop restoring it. It should be uploaded as a non-free media.--The1337gamer (talk) 16:40, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
@The1337gamer: Okay, I see, I'll stop restoring it until this is cleared up - with that made clear, is there any way to upload this imagery that does not fall foul of copyright issues? As I've attempted to clarify above, all of the content in the game is created from the ground up by the development team in line with Microsoft's content usage policy, or utilises free resources from the Unity Asset store. How would I go about uploading this without it being flagged? Furthermore, I'm a little confused by "non-free" - the entire game is free and being developed at no cost/profit due to the same content usage policy, so all content falls under "free" media, surely? ItTakesTime (talk) 16:44, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
@ItTakesTime: It's falls foul of copyright issues because you uploaded the screenshot to Wikimedia Commons under the Creative Commons License 4.0. The Creative Common License 4.0 lets anyone "Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially." Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content, that is, images and other media files that are not subject to copyright restrictions. Installation 01 and its screenshots have copyright restrictions, which are Microsoft's content usage policy. Microsoft's content usage policy does not allow you to distribute content commercially or under CC BY 4.0. Images that have copyright restriction should be uploaded as non-free media: Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. --The1337gamer (talk) 17:07, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
@The1337gamer: I have just noticed you've removed the section on the soundtrack and music for Installation 01. Whilst I appreciate it may seem unsourced to you, a brief check of their website demonstrates the validity and authenticity of all of my additions. Both individuals are working on the game, as confirmed by themselves and TheChunkierBean, one of the lead developers on the project. Will it be allowed for me to re-add this section, with somewhat better referencing? Thank you. ItTakesTime (talk) 17:02, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Source 2 page

I like that we are collaborating on the Source 2 wiki page, but why did you move my article from "Source 2 (game engine)" page to "Source 2" page I think it fits. I think it fits with the Source 1 page. Thanks for the help though. --Picaxe01 2:35, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

  • @Picaxe01: The "(game engine)" part isn't needed because there is nothing else called Source 2 so there is nothing to confuse it with. If there was something else called Source 2, then we would add "game engine". There are many different things called Source, that's why we add "game engine" to the end of that one. --The1337gamer (talk) 18:40, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Why are you rude?

Honestly, you just barge into a discussion with an assumption and make a fool out of me, explain yourself. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 16:30, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Stop ignoring my question. Please answer my question, otherwise I will report you. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 17:15, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Wispfire's Herald

Why did you remove the Brash Games source? Why did you say it's "unreliable source"? Brash Games has a website and everything. I also provided a link to it to people can see it's a real article and even Wispire has posted about the article on their Twitter and Facebook. 68.11.91.158 (talk) 16:52, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Really? Metacritic uses Brash Games' reviews on their website: http://www.metacritic.com/publication/brash-games, so I though it was a good source to use. Okay, if that the consensus, then I have to accept it. 68.11.91.158 (talk) 17:01, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Websites on Metacritic aren't automatically considered reliable sources for Misplaced Pages. Misplaced Pages has its own criteria for reliable sources. If you're ever unsure about a video game website, check WP:VG/RS and if there's no concensus, you can open a discussion on the talk page. --The1337gamer (talk) 17:07, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
