According to the records of the '']'', all three were from the ] Province of ] (corresponding to the territory of modern ] and ]). The conquest of ] ] by ] during the 7th century largely eliminated the chance for another African pope until modern times. Being not only from ], but also members of the Roman populace situated there, they may have been of the ] race. However, since there is no known portrait of them and since there were high ranking Black African officials and military commanders in Rome at that time, there is a distinct possibility that there was a Black African Pope among at least one of the three listed here.
