Assessment

I've tagged some articles but shouldn't there be an assessment template somewhere that shows which articles are part of the project? Seraphim System 14:13, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

Have added the project tag to Nonviolence and Nonviolent resistance. Randy Kryn (talk) 15:22, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

Improving JFK's Report to the American People on Civil Rights

Hello, Wikipedians. A project like this one is long overdue. I noticed that today one of your members placed the project banner on the Report to the American People on Civil Rights article. I've been overhauling that article since fall. Though my work has slowed recently, I was hoping to get it through FAC in time for June 11 2018 so it could be FA of the day. Most of my work is complete; the only two sections of the article that need improvement are a rewrite of the lead and for the "Content" section to be finished. I have the sources to complete the latter task. Any help is welcome. -Indy beetle (talk) 17:33, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

Project participant infobox

Does anyone want a participant infobox? I can create one (I've done it before). What would others like to see the image be? - Tim1965 (talk) 16:57, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

A nice offer. I don't use many infoboxes myself, but it would be a nice one to have for those who use them. The image is a good question, and I'll see what others think, just wanted to thank you for the good idea. Randy Kryn (talk) 20:39, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

DYK update

Just thought everyone would like to know, Fannie Lou Hamer's hook on the main page for WP:DYK, caused the article to receive 31,109 page views. It is now listed as one of the best hooks of Misplaced Pages! Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 22:06, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Nice work! Randy Kryn (talk) 22:26, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Adding new services for this project

I tried to subscribe to Misplaced Pages:Article alerts and User:AlexNewArtBot. I've added a new "Alerts" section with Template:Article alerts columns on the Project page. With the AlexNewArtBot, I'm quite sure I did not properly setup the alert. I've never done this before. If you have any experience with these subscription services, then PLEASE review my attempts to ensure I've done them properly. It would be much appreciated. Mitchumch (talk) 23:21, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mitchumch. It's been many years since I set up Article Alerts for a WikiProject, but it looks like you did it right. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz /Stalk 03:21, 16 March 2018 (UTC)

ce case

Dicklyon You stated that "consensus says not to cap this" in your edit summary to make this edit. What are you referring to? Mitchumch (talk) 06:44, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Referring to MOS:CAPS and the recent discussion about caps specifically at Talk:Civil rights movement. It's not a proper name, so we don't dress it up as such. Dicklyon (talk) 16:32, 24 March 2018 (UTC)
I wouldn't have commented but for the "...we don't dress it up as such". The Civil Rights Movement, and most of the people in the WikiProject can't help but call it any other name (at least in the confines of our clubhouse to which you have a key), does not have to be "dressed up" to make it a proper noun. Which of course it is, from a very well-sourced point of view and from the common-sense perspective of what makes a historical era historic. Randy Kryn (talk) 19:50, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Protected? Then...

...put that nonsense in the explanation template? It's quite surrealistic, in one way, and not a very good face to present to the readers in another. I am getting more used to it though, a commentary on which title-case to use no doubt, worthy of the Museum of Bad Art. Randy Kryn (talk) 19:53, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

Portal has been G7d - GA promoted

Unfortunately I have to report that I have requested the deletion of the portal, as the RM discussion regarding the title (with blatantly no consensus) was closed as having consensus by an editor with a very clear vendetta against me, as an admin. Sadly, I don't have the energy right now to try to win this fight when portals get so few page views (my userpage alone got more views last month for crying out loud) and when there is this much headache to keep the title correct. If only some editors had actually met the civil rights leaders of our times, then perhaps they would understand why "Civil Rights Movement" is the correct capitalization for the movement which has become a proper noun when it is the common name for it. I wish it hadn't come to this, as I put many days of work into that portal. But, sometimes you have to stand up for the right thing even if it costs you a few losses here and there; a few editors disrupting this project cannot be allowed to systemically waste my or any of our time. So, we must move to other things with more importance for now (unless anyone else feels like taking up that fight somehow).

In other news, I am happy to announce that Ralph Abernathy is now a Good Article, being promoted to the status (serendipitously enough) on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the dear friend he cradled in his arms as he fell into unconsciousness. Give it a read if you'd like, and even better: if you see something that needs fixing please feel free to do so! It is currently awaiting review at WP:DYKN for a place on the main page, which I'd say this man deserves. I'll update the task/status board when that goes through. Have a happy Friday folks, and let's keep this project rolling forward! Coffee // have a ☕️ // beans // 07:47, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
