  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 00:05 on 28 December 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

The Shinnecock Hills Golf Club picture probably needs contextualization, as currently it's relevance to the story is unclear. Brandmeister 06:34, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

That would need a re-write of "In golf, Brooks Koepka wins the U.S. Open for the second consecutive year (Shinnecock Hills Golf Club pictured)" probably dropping the "second consecutive year" because something like "In golf, Brooks Koepka wins the U.S. Open at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club (pictured).", right? The Rambling Man (talk) 06:38, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Modified as suggested. Vanamonde (talk) 06:46, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

That Oregon rancher Bill Brown, known as the "Horse King of the West", often wrote checks on newspaper margins and soup can labels—which bankers would cash without question?

Checks should be spelt "cheques". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.241.170.190 (talk) 09:07, 19 June 2018 (UTC)

Banks worked differently in the old days. And 'checks' is correct in the United States. It's spelled 'cheques' in the UK. See cheque. Fish+Karate 10:19, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
I noticed this, obviously it's strongly ENGVAR so it may be worth linking check here just to alleviate the obvious confusion for those of us who definitely (used to) issue cheques. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:33, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
I've added a link for checkbook in the article. But what exactly is "tablet paper"?? Martinevans123 (talk) 10:42, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Linked in the hook. Vanamonde (talk) 10:45, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Re:tablet paper. Who knows? But it's not in the hook thankfully. The Rambling Man (talk) 10:46, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Is it me or are the hyphens and commas back to front on this hook:
... That Oregon rancher Bill Brown - known as the "Horse King of the West" - often wrote checks on newspaper margins and soup can labels, which bankers would cash without question?
To me that looks better. Not bothered particularly though. Fish+Karate 11:00, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Not 100% certain, but pretty sure "tablet paper" is referring to a pad of blank paper. --Khajidha (talk) 11:07, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
The original reads better to me...even if we didn't want commas, we'd want m-dashes, surely, not hyphens? Vanamonde (talk) 11:04, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I'm just too lazy to type em dashes instead of hyphens. Fish+Karate 11:30, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
En-dashes would be fine too. The Rambling Man (talk) 11:42, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
