Hi, are these edits of Terry's acceptable?
Bear in mind that my talk page edits regarding this matter were memos based on the suggestions of a mediator in an unrelated dispute.I will abide by your decision regarding this. If you think that Terry's edits are legitimate then OK.As of now, I believe that they constitute harrassment.Hkelkar 12:14, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Removing warnings, whether relevant or not relevant isn't kosher. Although warnings by vandals can be removed, I let them be on my page and someone comes around and comments about its validity. — Nearly Headless Nick 14:15, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
- > Basically - the initial warning was this. The other two he marked above are warnings on removing the first warning a number of times on the pretext that Admins have agreed - considering that the editor has repeatedly been asked not to use confrontational language, Misplaced Pages is not a battlefield and comment on content and not the editor - at the time of that remark he was still on a block for incivilty.Use of such language is not civil and remindful that he has not mend his ways.I could have been wrong to assume and that is why I asked him to seek an admins views before removing but he blanks out the warning saying he only "unrendered" the warning - in turn I got rewarded by this on my user pageTerryJ-Ho 14:03, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Revert-warring is bad. If a user does something wrong, posting one warning generally does the job. There is no need to repeat it again as it only exacerbates the situation. Instead leave an edit summary with the word Warning and report it to the admin who comes to the concerned user talk page. — Nearly Headless Nick 14:39, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
The last checkuser concluded that it was "likely." BhaiSaab 18:56, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- Likely is generally not good enough. I suggest you start collecting some serious evidence and approach ArbCom member User:Dmcdevit and ask of his opinions on this matter. — Nearly Headless Nick 14:50, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
I have replied to your question on my talk page. BhaiSaab 16:55, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Regarding this. Try leaving vandals who do not have a long abusive past, at least one warning before posting the {{test4}} template. Regards, — Nearly Headless Nick 15:31, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with you in theory, but this user had two prior blocks and a whole bunch of test4s on his/her talk page. It did, in fact, look to me like a "long abusive past." The edit I was warning against was this. And the test4 did, in fact, stop any further vandalism from that user yesterday (it began again today, resulting in a different admin giving a third block). Thanks, NawlinWiki 15:37, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
- Mmmkay, but I always believe in giving them a chance. In my opinion it is subtle vandalism that really threatens Misplaced Pages. — Nearly Headless Nick 15:39, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Your Muslim Guild action
Sir Nick, just wanted to swing by and thank you for your reversal. I do appreciate you taking the appropriate time for it. --badlydrawnjeff talk 15:31, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Its only because I hold you in utmost respect. I am a process wonk and that page, in my opinion, is a waste of wikipedia's resources. I hope to see your comments on the MfD, for which I have requested the other user to present evidence of solicitation and advocacy. Thank you for your time. — Nearly Headless Nick 15:34, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'll keep my eyes open for it. --badlydrawnjeff talk 15:39, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

I think you may have made a mistake
Your block of User:Kunstgebit lists "(I just love vandals who leave "vandalism" for editsummaries.)" as the reason. I checked, because I was curious why someone would do that. His edit summary of "vandalism" refers to this
edit where he complained on an IP talk page that that user had vandalized. I checked his other contribs and I saw no vandalism and no talk page warnings. Am I missing something? Cheers Dina 17:30, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Please stop using euphemistic sentences in front of me. I think you may have made a mistake; There is no question of may! I did make a mistake. So, unblocked. Thanks for pointing this out – I couldn't have kept this on my conscience. :P — Nearly Headless Nick 17:38, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, no more euphemisms! If I catch another one, I'll give it a much blunter title. Thanks for fixing it, I felt a bit bad for the guy, his vandal message was kind of endearing. Cheers. Dina 19:16, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
Re: "you meant this"
Near native english ? Thanks but I don't think so: every time I turn on a US channel on my TV I get the same impression as when I see a Thai movie with spanish subtitles. TwoHorned 22:07, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I have made a compromise ;-) — Nearly Headless Nick 17:05, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
When I try to nominate this page for deletion using the MFD tag { {subst:md1}} the MFD box created then points to the earlier miscelleanous for deletion discussion page. Thus I am not able to complete a second nomination for deletion as I would then be overwritting the earlier discussion page. I looks like the MFD process may not have been designed to accomodate a second nomination for deletion. Any ideas?--CltFn 00:38, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have replied on your talk page. — Nearly Headless Nick 17:32, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you , I have now created the MFD page .--CltFn 03:56, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi there!
Hi Andy! I just wanted to drop you a line, as I hope I didn't offend you in my rather firm opposition of Michael Billington's current RfA. It wasn't my intention to insinuate that everyone who has visited that channel has engaged in shady activities. In fact, I certainly agree with you that the channel seemed to be a joke at first and a lot of the people in the channel treated it as such. However, it certainly evolved into something more serious at a point, and I feel quite strongly that integrities have been compromised. Having said that, you have my complete trust, respect, and confidence. I know that you would never engage in that sort of silliness; you're a great asset to the project and again, I hope my comments weren't viewed contradictory to that. Cheers mate! hoopydink 13:01, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Go away, I hate you! No, ofcourse not. I was never offended; but the thing is that you might have just opined in such a way that might trigger a knee-jerk oppose voting for the user. — Nearly Headless Nick 16:09, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for supporting my RfA
|
Thank you for your support in my RfA, which passed with a final tally of (56/0/2). It was great to see so much kind support from such competent editors and administrators as commented on my RfA.
I know I have much reading to do before I'll feel comfortable enough to use some of the more powerful admin tools, so I'll get right to it.

Your advice
Hey, thanks for your advice about the (perhaps) early test4 warning, but it appears that a couple of admins have agreed with my actions and the vandal in question has been banned until Feb. Just thought you'd like to know. Cheers! Budgiekiller 18:31, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Re: my english level
I thank you for that. I really appreciate it. You treat me much better than did a whole sleeping amphitheatre of students in an english university recently... Well , it was in North England anyway: 20 year old young people brainwashed by Morphine-Coke (a local drink) and speaking like Harry Potter. Edits to the GNU General Public License article
Why was this edit to the GNU General Public License article considered "unconstructive" and "vandalism"? It simply adds some references to the "Criticism" section with valid cites! Maybe the heading "The GPL as a restrictive license" ? 83.37.6.160
- Try dicussing it on the talk page of the article. — Nearly Headless Nick 12:25, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

Removing the following -
where a family as well as their children “were surrounded in their car and drenched in petrol and set alight” and of another
- Kausar Bano was nine months into pregnancy when on February 28th 2002, 500 strong armed mob stormed into their house at Naroda Patia. Her womb was allegedly cut open with swords and the fetus was burnt along with herself and 7 other members of her family of 12.
- Bilkis Yakoob Rasool was six month pregnant when, on March 3rd 2002, a mob attacked their house in Randhikpur village located in Dahod district and gang-raped her while killing 14 of her closest relatives.
- She was left for dead but she survived. During the trial for these crimes , she subsequently identified 20 of the accused including 6 policemen in an ongoing trial.
- Reply - See WP:RS, I removed links from Sabrang, an extremist website. Also I am totally unrealated to 66.xx . If the best users critical of the BJP can come up with is Sabrang, their efforts are futile. If you go to sabrang, look at the bottom of the page where you will see the "Fascist Heritage" header. You may notice its only attacking the RSS, and totally quiet on Genocide in Kashmir, NLFT terrorism, Naga terrorism, and Communist terrorists. They even state they are an advocacy group, meaning they are an partisan website. While people sympathetic to the BJP have quoted reliable sources like the Hindu, Refiff, The Pioneer, the other sidew of the debate has nothing to show but "human rights" groups and "secular/combatting communalism" nonsense.Bakaman Bakatalk 17:29, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
- I basically support Baka's view on this matter.Sabrang and CAG are extremist hate sites disguised as "advocacy groups". The polemic and rhetoric that fills their rubbish is ample evidence to any objective observer. However, if non-partisan sources confirm their basic contention regarding this matter then they can be cited as support. At present, this is not the case. Non-partisan means accredited news sources, academic publications from scholars whose discipline is connected to the issues at hand (so a reputable scholar on mathematics, for instance, cannot be used here even if he has advanced an opinion concerning the subject of the article).Hkelkar 13:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Please prove through reliable sources why Sabrang and CAG are extremist hate sites. From above it seems your personal opinion..TerryJ-Ho 10:30, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
|
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.
Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Misplaced Pages policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Misplaced Pages because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
|
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Misplaced Pages easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Misplaced Pages. Consider writing one!
|
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.

The last AC meeting (full log)
|
- The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
- There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Misplaced Pages.
- The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
- In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Misplaced Pages policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
- A discussion of Esperanza's role in Misplaced Pages is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
- Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

On trolls and respecting your fellow encyclopedia-writing comrades
Your comment from User talk:Journalist:
- I suggest that you drop this topic, Orane. People will not stop patronising trolls. — Nearly Headless Nick 13:56, 5 November 2006 (UTC)
Oh, rubbish. I'm in no way whatsoever supporting trolling in any way, shape, or form. I simply feel that you shouldn't behave as they do by attacking them on large or small levels. I completely empathise with the anger that you feel towards them, but feel that there are more appropriate venues than treating anybody, troll or dedicated contributor, poorly or incivily. Anyhow, I too will drop this, not having really wanted to take it this far anyway, but don't drop this complete nonsense about me "patronising trolls". Honestly, treat your fellow contributors with more respect. Hmph. Snoutwood (talk) 00:09, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
- Um, yes. I would have agreed with you any other time. But I think I have lost my patience with such users. Very well, I will assume good faith. — Nearly Headless Nick 09:01, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

Locksport Deletion
Why do you feel the Locksport article was justified for deletion? The term has been used by more that one major news outlet, and the article had a quite large support base Misplaced Pages:Articles_for_deletion/Locksport. None of the terms for deletion seem to fit the reasonings applied to the article, it saddens me that the article was deleted because people failed to realize that the term isn't exclusively used by people in the hobby but also by major news outlets(ABC and the Wall Street Journal). I am wondering why you felt it deserved deletion, most other articles with that amount of support and evidence would not have been deleted.What_aka_Kevin 21:43, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

Deleting an article (I wish)
Dear Sir Nick
I want to delete an article, The Raising of Lazarus - Messina (Caravaggio). It's a double - there's already an article called The Raising of Lazarus (Caravaggio), which is about the same painting. I've copied and pasted the text from the first to the second (will tidy up later), but would like to complete the clean-up by getting rid of one of the two. But I don't know how. Can you help?
As for why I'm chosing to bother you, rather than some other hapless Wikipedidian, I just like your nick, Sir Nick).
