tjstrf is a Misplaced Pages user, obviously. Now that that's clarified, I can stop using the 3rd person.
I am 17 years old, a high school senior and currently live in California. My screen name isn't truly random, but rather an acronym of my initials followed by "the Redwall Fan". Though I am no longer an active fan of the series, I continue to use the name because it is more convenient than having to invent a new screen name for each web site I frequent or having to follow my name with numbers. My primary interests are computers, world history, politics, literature, anime/manga, and video games. I have made significant contributions to the Bleach (manga) category. My favorite genre of music is technoclassical.
Users whom I hold in high respect
User:Ynhockey Ynhockey is one of the best users I have met on wikipedia, and his thousands of edits and near single-handed vandalism control in entire categories of articles speaks for itself. He was among the first great contributors I encountered and has served as a great example to me.
User:GTBacchus Though I sometimes disagree with his views, GTBacchus is an overall reasonable individual, and an example of an excellent and helpful administrator.
Personal views which are relevant to Misplaced Pages:
- I hate userbox clutter. Not all userboxes are clutter, but the vast majority do not provide information with any useful bearing on the Misplaced Pages. Userboxes which give the opinions of the user on political/ethical/moral issues should be discouraged, but not deleted provided they use non-offensive wording. Userboxes which are simply "funny" or otherwise do not provide serious information about the user should be deleted.
- I believe fiction-based articles nominated for deletion should be judged based more upon the quality of writing they display than whether they are classed as fancruft or not.
- I believe individual Wikiprojects should be given a decent amount of self-government with respect to guidelines. Basic policies are of course immutable, or at least require broader consensus for change, but individual projects should be free to determine their own standards for notability, sources, article quality rankings, and the like.
- I believe people with strong feelings about a controversial issue should avoid editing articles related to those issues if at all possible. Misplaced Pages should not be a political environment, no one likes an activist.
- I think it is the responsibility of those with little or no affiliation with controversial subjects to edit their articles in a responsible manner, and especially to aid in resolving edit wars. If you find an edit war in progress, be proactive and try to help while not joining a side in the argument. If necessary, go read a book or two on the subject to learn about it.
- Above all else, try to get more intelligent editors to join the community. Many people you know in real life would be glad to contribute to our project if they knew about it, so ask them. The worst they can do is say no.
A link to my edit summary usage. It's been at 100% for a while now, but I like keeping the tool handy.
