== My advocacy request ==

Ideally I would like ] blocked and the ] article semi-protected, so new and anonymous users can't edit it. I know there is are very specific (and sometimes confusing) policies for dealing with these kinds of problems on Misplaced Pages, so I will accept any good faith decisions based on non-biased application of these rules.

However, I do not consider inaction to be an acceptable outcome. If the ] article becomes unprotected and ] is not restrained from editing it, he will continue to revert it to inferior versions. And if the article remains protected as is, the article will continue to be in a state that is not as good as it could be. Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

I was drawn to the article mentioned above because of that editor's factually incorrect edits to other articles, the blatant bias he has displayed in those articles, and the personally abusive and racist language he has used in talk pages. Here's a summary of some of his offenses:
*deleting ‎information in articles that doesn't fit with his obvious political agenda.
*adding unverified opinions and factually incorrect claims to articles, in order to promote his obvious political agenda.
*deleting other people's comments on talk pages that make him look bad, or that don't fit with his political agenda.
*repeatedly deleting a ''Neutrality Disputed'' tag on the article mentioned above, even though I have clearly explained why I dispute the neutrality of some of the sources in that article. Now I even question the reliablity of some of the information from neutral sources like Greek newspapers, because they are written in Greek, and have been translated and filtered by users like him.
*repeatedly reverted mundane, yet necessary improvements to the article in question — such as the correct verb tenses, appropriate categorization of similar topics under one section, and the unwikifying of a name with no Misplaced Pages article.
*Making widescale reverts without clearly justifying them, and then denying the extent of those large reverts.
*expressing racist views on talk pages, such as proclaiming that whites are superior than other people, and using the word ''nigger'' to describe black people.
*personally insulting other editors on talk pages, including using profanities.

That's just what I can think of off the top of my head. I realize that all Misplaced Pages editors make mistakes, and not all of my own edits have been correct, but I believe it is clear that the negative results of allowing ] to alter content on Misplaced Pages outweigh any positive results. His editing pattern has been a detriment to the factual accuracy, grammar and clear readability of Misplaced Pages articles. His behaviour on talk pages has been a detriment to civil interactions within the Misplaced Pages community. ] 14:40, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Just Wondering...

If you wanted to take this case here: Misplaced Pages:AMA Requests for Assistance/Requests/November 2006/Hkelkar 2. You advocated for him before, so you might know a little better backstory. If you don't want to though, I guess someone else will do it. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 00:48, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

RefDeskBot

Is operating behind by a good 6 or 7 minutes! You need to fix the clock on your home computer! ;) -Patstuart 00:21, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi there; given that this article unarguably qualified for deletion, your programme labelled it as {{db-nonsense}} when quite obviously it should have been {{db-attack}}. It still gets deleted, of course, but does your program need tweaking?--Anthony.bradbury 00:07, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Attack

Hi. Template for attack is {{db-attack}}. Other templates are in WP:SPEEDY. Is that what you meant?--Anthony.bradbury 00:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

ref desk bot

Science desk - edits to topics still shown on the main page are not listed in the history but at Misplaced Pages:Reference desk/Archives/Science/2006 November 16 - surely this is not right? - I suspect refdeskbot, am I right?87.102.21.223 00:29, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply - very quick. The problem is that I used to check the edit history of the ref desk to find if anyone had added anything of interest to me. Obviously the page is too big to search through bit by bit - also doing a compare versions eg http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Misplaced Pages%3AReference_desk%2FScience&diff=88531253&oldid=88521691 doesn't show the changes to questions over 2 days old. Obviously I could just check the archives.. Suggest that since the discussion is still on the main page (and therefore probably active) it shouldn't be archived. Could you move it back 2 days? This seems to be the offending piece of code

{{Misplaced Pages:Reference_desk/Archives/Science/2006 November 15}} {{Misplaced Pages:Reference_desk/Archives/Science/2006 November 16}}

I hope I have explained what my problem is..

You could as Werdnabot does and only archive days if there has been no change for <NOCHANGE> days, for some appropriate value of <NOCHANGE> (say 1), but not before the day itself is old enough to be archived under the present regime. That would have the effect of keeping discussions unincluded on the main page as long as they are active.  --Lambiam 01:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
A while ago the archiving style on the Reference Desk (long before RefDeskBot) turned from straight archiving of old posts/days to separating each day right off the bat and then dealing with transcluded pages. I didn't like it much at first; I got annoyed when I got kicked off of the main page into the archives, but now I can see the benefit of it. There should be no need to load the entire current desk (the largest page on RD) when you are currently only browsing a days worth of questions. I coded the header so that it would allow you to jump back on to the current desk, and I don't see why you can't just look at the history page for the day that you're concerned about. It might not be as convenient for you, but I don't think many users browse their edits in that manner. I for one use my list of contributions to check for responses, if I don't just browse the entire page manually.  freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ  18:08, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Just for the record, I agree with the new system, because of potential problems with such a big page as an unarchived RD, and so I would like the bot to stay as it is (:)). Martinp23 18:15, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

You're a sysop!

Hi, MDP23, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop!

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on articles for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Misplaced Pages up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=
PS Please add you name to WP:LA!

Please also add your name to WP:LA =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:15, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Regarding block of 24.148.67.72 (talk · contribs)

You may want to look into the accounts Naradasupreme (talk · contribs), Drmagic (talk · contribs), and Oldschoolfreak (talk · contribs) as they are suspected sock puppet accounts of that particular IP. :: Colin Keigher (Talk) {{{alias}}} 20:04, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeah. I am embroiled in a stupid dispute with this IP/user, hence why I am aware of his actions. I recently filed this RfC, but so far no good. :: Colin Keigher (Talk) {{{alias}}} 20:18, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Ah. So I wasn't wrong about the sockpuppetry. It's amazing how much you can figure out without administration abilities. :) :: Colin Keigher (Talk) {{{alias}}} 22:06, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Downtown (song)

Hi

Thanks for your attempt to sort the article of (Re: Downtown (song). Earlier today I requested that another admin look into something - given the fact your now involved with the article, it may seem better to ask you.

I informed Journalist of the situation with SFTVLGUY2 and asked him if he could look into that user and another called ConoscoTutto. I believe they may be an alias of each other; their profiles and writing styles are remarkabley similar. And they have posted in the same articles before expressing the same opinions (see Downtown talk page, Misplaced Pages:Categories for deletion/Log/2006 November 13 - Petula Clark films). Is having aliases against Wiki regulations? And is there any way you can check IP addresses to establish if there is a connection please? Rimmers 21:46, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey Martin!

Please note my comments here . I will maintain vigilance at Baylor University, as I feel that controversies with citations should not be blanked just because someone does not like them to be made public. We had similar issues at The Path to 9/11 a few months back. Just thought I would say hey and let you know a little of my perspective. I am not about taking sides on any of the issues, so much as I am opposed to the blanking of information by those who want to keep "controversy" off wikipedia. The interactive nature of our project allows for such development in a collaborative fashion. Finally, I appreciate your work in the community. Best, Kukini 22:02, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks much. Hey...teach me something...why is it that warning removals can't lead to blocks? I have only been an admin for 4ish months, and have noted blocks on editors who did this before. Always learning, Kukini 22:18, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Congrats!!!

I have been kinda focused on just doing administration lately (as you have today). I should get back to RfA land now and again to see our incoming admins such as yourself. Welcome to the mop-club!!!! Kukini 22:29, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry?

Thanks for protecting Somalia. After some discussion on the talkpage, I strongly suspect there is some sockpuppetry going on. You can see my thinly veiled accusation, here. Please advise if you think Checkuser is called for. I wouldn't request one casually, but a quick review of the (very brief) contrib histories of these 2 editors looks suspicious to say the least. Thanks again. --Doc Tropics 03:42, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

I think everything is fine now, but it was sure interesting for a while. As you noticed, it was more than just a couple of socks...5 were blocked. Thanks again for your help; I'm amazed at how responsive most admins are, especially given how badly you're outnumbered :) --Doc Tropics 15:02, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
OMG! I had no idea you were so new...heck you're practically a virgin :) For a 'first day' it seems you did a great job. Many congrats to you! Yes, I understand mixed feelings about new messages...a certain number of nasty-grams is inevitable (I've gotten a couple too). Don't forget, there will always be editors who appreciate what you do, and occassionaly they might even remember to say 'thanks'. In the meantime, enjoy your new superpowers, and keep up the good work! --Doc Tropics 15:22, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

User talk:Pesci

This user continues to blank out his/her user talk page. I reverted it back and left a notice of concern again. Kukini 06:06, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Jabbin

this is a pretty popular FOSS software that implements VoIP on Jabber. In fact it is one of the few linux clients for google-talk. I had created it as a stub and was intending to update it. From what i gather, you probably mistook it for advertisement. Please remove the deletion tag and post your concerns on the discussion page.

Advocate

Would you consider the role of advocate similar to that of a lawyer, or are you supposed to be a neutral party? BhaiSaab 15:42, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

I think it would be in your best interests not to advocate a sockpuppeteer. BhaiSaab 04:09, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi

Hi, Well wikipedia has about 1,500,000 articles in english. Do these include stubs also. Sushant gupta 15:56, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Re:Professor Sunderland?

Umm...why did you replace the templates I placed on user:Professor Sunderland and user talk:Professor Sunderland? Nishkid64 23:00, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

I was about to ask the same thing. Wouldn't Galacian be the sockpupet as Galactian only registered today? Metros232 23:02, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
Response here Martinp23 23:06, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
It's all confusing. I originally blocked Molag Bal indefinitely a few weeks ago (vandalism and such). Then Professor Sunderland comes out of nowhere, and then starts editing the same pages as Molag Bal. I established a connection, and told him I could block him, but I said I would give him a second chance. Then Sunderland goes crazy, makes two new accounts, Galactian and SpaceBot (which I shut off, as it malfunctioned and blanked 10+ pages). Galactian also edited Sunderland articles. I didn't know what the hell was going on, and I still don't. Anyway, RFCU is the best option here. I was considering that myself. I'm suspecting that the user has many more accounts. 194.80.32.8

Hi - I've changed the block of 194.80.32.8 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) to allow account creation, with it being a complete university! This was after a request on unblock-en-l. Just an FYI Template:Emot. Keep up the good work - Martinp23 22:38, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I normally allow account creations, not sure why I didn't uncheck the appropriate box in this case. --Yamla 02:14, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

the Discussion page

hi what's the point of that page when editors that keep on editing don't want to come to the discussion page and tell their reasons of editing?

i was blocked because i wasn't aware of the 3x time rev rule on wiki and that's ok but the Editor sweetie1986 that also goes under multiple IP names on the somali people page continues to edit without visiting the discussions page

something needs to be done about this. RoboRanks 04:47, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Violated??

hi sorry but i haven't edited the page today

not once..

how can i have violated the 3 revert rule?

am i doing something wrong without me knowing it?

cause if you look at the history page i haven't edited or reverted the somali people page

i have only contributed on the discussion page and put down my stand on the dispute RoboRanks 07:06, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

No Problem

and i will look into the protection option

thanks! RoboRanks 07:13, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Block

Hi there. Just to say no hard feelings about the block you imposed on me - it was my own fault for getting dragged into an edit war. I will step back from the article entirely, I may even remove it from my watchlist. However I did want to make you aware of the fact that Mitsos has recently made personal attacks on me (see here) and on others and breached numerous other Misplaced Pages guidelines without suffering any sanction whatsoever. Although on this particular instance I accept myself and Spylab were as much to blame as him for edit warring, nonetheless this user is determined to use WP to push a neo-nazi agenda and needs to be treated with caution. --SandyDancer 10:58, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Bot seems to have croaked

Perhaps it got disconnected. Take a look at the contributions. It seems to have suddenly stopped archiving after it finished the Computing and Mathematics desk. It removed November 18th from the Humanities desk, but never archived it, and it didn't get to any of the other desks, nor the help desk.  freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ  12:24, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

I manually finished archiving the Humanities desk for November 18th (I created the transclusion page and indexed it), so be careful not to archive Humanities twice when you get the bot back!  freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ  12:46, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Album covers tagged by sockpuppet vandal

Please be more careful when deleting images tagged with {{no source}}. A number of album cover images were tagged "no source" by a sockpuppet vandal User:Aujin66, but for the most part the source of an album cover is obviously the album from which it came. See the discussion here. If you could restore these images it would be much appreciated.

My advocacy request

Ideally I would like User: Mitsos blocked and the Hrisi Avgi article semi-protected, so new and anonymous users can't edit it. I know there is are very specific (and sometimes confusing) policies for dealing with these kinds of problems on Misplaced Pages, so I will accept any good faith decisions based on non-biased application of these rules.

However, I do not consider inaction to be an acceptable outcome. If the Hrisi Avgi article becomes unprotected and user: Mitsos is not restrained from editing it, he will continue to revert it to inferior versions.

  • deleting ‎information in articles that doesn't fit with his obvious political agenda.
  • adding unverified opinions and factually incorrect claims to articles, in order to promote his obvious political agenda.
  • deleting other people's comments on talk pages that make him look bad, or that don't fit with his political agenda.
  • repeatedly deleting a Neutrality Disputed tag on the article mentioned above, even though I have clearly explained why I dispute the neutrality of some of the sources in that article. Now I even question the reliablity of some of the information from neutral sources like Greek newspapers, because they are written in Greek, and have been translated and filtered by users like him.
  • repeatedly reverted mundane, yet necessary improvements to the article in question — such as the correct verb tenses, appropriate categorization of similar topics under one section, and the unwikifying of a name with no Misplaced Pages article.
  • Making widescale reverts without clearly justifying them, and then denying the extent of those large reverts.
  • expressing racist views on talk pages, such as proclaiming that whites are superior than other people, and using the word nigger to describe black people.
  • personally insulting other editors on talk pages, including using profanities.

That's just what I can think of off the top of my head. I realize that all Misplaced Pages editors make mistakes, and not all of my own edits have been correct, but I believe it is clear that the negative results of allowing user:Mitsos to alter content on Misplaced Pages outweigh any positive results. His editing pattern has been a detriment to the factual accuracy, grammar and clear readability of Misplaced Pages articles. His behaviour on talk pages has been a detriment to civil interactions within the Misplaced Pages community. Spylab 14:40, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
