On 14 November 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Schoharie limousine crash, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the stretch limousine involved in the recent crash near Schoharie, New York, killing 20, appeared at two vehicle inspections earlier this year with different license plates? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Schoharie limousine crash), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |
Fame at last...
How does Misplaced Pages deal with a mass shooting? A frenzied start gives way to a few core editors. No mention of me though:). Nice diagrams, and a quick look at the page histories of shooting incidents will show a core of regular editors.--♦IanMacM♦ 17:30, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
HI WWGB, I'm a researcher at Sydney Uni and would like to contact you. I'm not sure how best to do this and hoping this message somehow reaches you....Doctor 17. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doctor 17 (talk • contribs) 08:45, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Were you aware?
I assume that you have been made aware of this. But, in the event that you were not, I wanted to point it out to you and bring this to your attention. Your name was mentioned in this article: How does Misplaced Pages deal with a mass shooting? A frenzied start gives way to a few core editors. Thanks. Joseph A. Rule
Hi! Please show the rule for it. Thanx Csurla (talk) 08:59, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Csurla:. See Q2 at Talk:Deaths in 2018/FAQ. Regards, WWGB (talk) 10:34, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
A beer for you!
You probably need one about now. Here's hoping for a better year, in particular, one necessitating fewer new articles on terrorist attacks. E.M.Gregory (talk) 17:28, 1 January 2019 (UTC) |

Alan Jones
Alan Jones the Australian radio broadcaster is 78 years old. This is as fact reported by multiple media outlets recently. His Misplaced Pages page says he is 76. Jmanley98 (talk) 06:48, 19 August 2019 (UTC)

an appropriate edit? I'm referring to your reversion. I'm confused as to why you reverted me to put nonsense words back in the sentence. Schazjmd (talk) 20:52, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- @Schazjmd: Sorry, that was an accidental rollback, no doubt due to my clumsy fat fingers. Apologies! WWGB (talk) 00:02, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
- Aha, that makes sense! No harm done, an IP editor immediately took it back out again. I should have realized it probably wasn't deliberate. Schazjmd (talk) 00:06, 11 September 2019 (UTC)
New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019
Hello WWGB,
- Backlog
Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.
- Coordinator
A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.
- This month's refresher course
Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.
- Deletion tags
Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.
- Paid editing
Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.
- Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
- Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
- Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
- Not English
- A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
- Tools
Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.
Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.
Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.
DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

2018 Cincinnati shooting
You say "You are VERY well aware that the INCLUSION of victim names requires consensus, you reverted a dormant. You reverted a dormant edit from six months ago just so you could pick a fight."
It is from 6 months ago but User:YatesTucker00090 is a currently active editor. And be aware that I have zero interest in "pick a fight"
. The 2018 Cincinnati shooting happens to have been on my watch list for a long time and I noticed your edit because another editor made an edit on 14 September 2019. And my sole interest is in improving the article. WP:CONSENSUS supports the inclusion of the material in question. I'm not going to follow you down the path of WP:EDITWARing. This is a collegial enterprise. Bus stop (talk) 03:37, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
