I noticed that you had unblocked Atul on a "trial basis". Please look into his recent canvassing in 7 unrelated talk pages about certain wikipedia articles, and his call-to-action directed towards certain religious adherents. Not to mention his message was extremely POV in religious lines.

I know it's difficult when LC exhibits such poor judgement, but try to limit your comments to his actions rather than ''him''. I don't think either saying he's a thug or acting like a thug is entirely appropriate. I also don't think it's a big deal, but I think the best way for him to learn is by example, and so we have to be scrupulously careful when talking to him to avoid diversions. -- ] 03:09, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

:::Sorry David. Please tell me how Barrett should be allowed to restate his case and claim libel, even after the Supreme Court of California has ruled on it against him. I also do not understand how those with one link away from every website of Barrett's empire, can post his links all over Misplaced Pages, but I am not allowed any links to my legal non profit foundation. I disagree that I bring nothing of value to the discussions of Barrett. For example, in June I tried to post that his NCAHF had been suspended for several years, but was blocked and it reverted as it his operation was legal. Now, after much ado, the article is less POV and more balanced. Also, there was a clear error in regards to Barrett Vs Rosenthal regarding Barrett's appeals that I corrected yesterday. No one else would have known this and this unfactual / unverified point would have been left on. I am further confused as to why there are Wiki articles filled with Barrett's viewpoint as a critic, even after courts have ruled him to be "biased and unworthy of credibility." I could name 20 articles that sound more like Quackwatch (which in itself is an attack site against those he deems worthy of defamation) than anything encyclopedic. I am a serious health advocate and activist with a support group of several thousand of women, run a legal non profit foundation, and have been a target of Barrett's for years. I am not the only activist who has been successful in defending myself against his meritless SLAPP suits. However, I am outnumbered here, as those in his operation, seem to have a full time job defending his articles. Thank you. 21:31, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi,
In case you missed it, there was an concerning Ilena. While I was happily surprised by her behavior afterward, she's now back to the very behavior that brought on the AN. --] 23:27, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
first of all nice work to all of you doing the genetics section for wikipedia - it's been extremely valuable for me in my revision.

I'm all new to this Misplaced Pages editing stuff. I don't want to edit an article myself because i'm no expert on the subject and I get the impression that you're associated with the article on introgression so I thought I'd write to you about it.
:Ronz, Ilena & Fyslee don't mix well, I am trying to figure out possible improvements on this.--] 14:02, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

It seems to be incorrect regarding what introgression is according to what I have read. I was under the impression that introgression is simply the movement of alleles between species or sub species, and that this was usually as a result of hybridisation and subsequent backcrossing (although I think the mechanism by which it occurs is not relevant to what it actually is) - NOT necessarily backcrossing between an individual and its parent i.e. it could occur by a hybrid breeding with individuals from either of the parent species rather than the parents themselves.
::Why not add your own name to the mix? Ilena doesnt mix with anyone that gets in her way. Ilena seems unable to learn wiki policy and guidelines, while behaving in what many admins label as "attack mode". No, I do not get along with such people. Frankly, no one should have to. Maybe if we could get editors to stop letting her play the victim, ignoring her behavioral problems, and encouraging her biases, then things would be much better for all. I'm pleased that she's taken a break. The problem still needs to be dealt with. Meanwhile, I've pretty much pulled myself out of the picture, which others have noticed if not I'clast. --] 17:02, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
:::I'm still in favor of her avoiding these pages totally. If this went to arbcom it would almost certainly be the outcome, however, I would hope that arbcom could be avoided and if she could be more collaborative that might be the case. The key is for her to understand that wikipedia is not usenet. ] ] 17:09, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
::::I agree with you, in fact a few of us were under the assumption that it had already been done until she reappeared in December. Meanwhile, I've asked for help and received a reply ]. --] 18:35, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
:::::Something to note is that if you don't agree with Ilena, you are immediately labeled as being Barrett, pro-Barrett, employed by Barrett or some other similar invective. It is now so familar to the editors on Barrett-land that even we use the distintion ourselves (ie/ pro and anti Barrett). Rather than saying "Ronz, Ilena & Fyslee don't mix well", it is more accurate to say "Ilena does not mix well with wiki editors who do not support her POV". ] 23:31, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
::::::Or even better, she was accusing me of being Barrett for a while. I'm sure it's my fault for not noticing that she was just angry and was actually acting in good faith ;^) --] 01:23, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

As I say i'm no expert on the subject, but this is what I have been led to believe and a few minutes of research seem to confirm this (except if you look in the free online dictionary which seems to think that it is specifically related to backcrossing between offspring and parents).
In case you missed it, I decided to go ahead and reopen the AN issues that appear to be returning .

Anyway I thought that you might be interested. If you know otherwise then please let me know, because it would be useful for my exams!

==My talk page== == 100/200 ==
What refreshing courtesy! Thank you for asking. I do not mind at all. Now you have me reading your talk page, which is fascinating. I am not a biologist. My last biology class was in high school. However, I do have some college physics and math, or quite a bit, since my degree was related, and my grad classes (before law school) were in electromagnetism. I am not schooled in esoteric philosopies that clearly distinguish between "quantitative laws" and "qualitative laws." How does one make a real distinction? I might point out that non-Euclidean geometry was developed before Einstein's birth. It seems to me that a common link is consistency (in math research, and in physics) more than an arbitrary distinction between "qualitative" and "quantitative" laws. To my knowledge, creationsim has no internal consistency. Is that not required in biology? I also think the injection of religion into science is a travesty. (My father was a geologist, so maybe I am "biased.") It seems that the applicable law in creationism is a Murphy's corollary, ''First draw the graph, then plot the points.'' ] 22:08, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
:Creationism is basically trying to shoe horn science into a biblical context. Unfortunately it has to be bent to such an extent that it is broken by the time they get it into the shoe. Far better to have a more liberal interpretation of the bible. In that way both science and religion can, and do, coexist.
:With regard to laws, ceratianly biology requires consistency, however, all too often we find exceptions that make simplification very difficult. To proceed forward in biology it is critical to realise that we have only scraped the surface and to expect dogma changing discoveries. History shows that these are quite normal in biology. Less so in physics, although Rutherford's experiments at the beginning of the 20th century certainly broke apart the dogma of atomic structure. Sorry this is rambling but i don't have time for anything more coherent. ] ] 23:02, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

:Hi Rockpocket, i really appreciate the offer but I don't really have a need for admin ship at the present time. If anything I think it may distract me from my encyclopedic contributions even more. The last few weeks i have been sucked into a few debates in wikipedia namespace. As an admin i think this would occur all too frequently. You admittedly didn't read the full discussion and even worse didn't talk to the blocking admin about it. ] (]) 05:29, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I did read the full discussion. This war on productive editors is not helping the encyclopedia quality improve. Endless, very long discussions are wasting huge numbers of hours. This all started due to flagrant plagiarism, something that most RfA contributors either didn't take time to see or chose not to see. That scenario was an exceptional circumstance, and it is understandable why tensions were already high. But instead we want to go the route of many more lost writers hours? I don't want to play that game and I don't think the admins should be playing that game. Talk people of the ledge and persuade people to move to different corners. That is always preferable to using blocks. It should be a last resort. Many will say I ignored consensus but I did read the opinions and I weighed the arguments. I have no horse in this race but it is clear that many others do. Personally, I think that history causes many to wish for punitive admin decisions when that is not always the best for the encyclopedia. If this was really the last straw for many with regard to giano then it might be everyone is too close to the back story. ] ] 05:50, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear David D,

Your reversal of the block was seriously beyond the realm of policy or good judgment. I strongly advise you to reconsider. We simply don't unblock without talking to the blocking admin or serious consensus that the block was inappropriate, which does not exist here. - ] 06:45, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

My reading (a few years ago now) about Newton's religious views indicate something far different than most like to present. If I recall accurately, Newton was more of what we would call a Deist, and was not particularly convinced by a personal god, or maybe even deity of Jesus etc. Newton spent a considerable amount of time trying to establish the veracity of the scriptures, and doing what was essentially producing an epexegesis. He did not unquestioningly agree and was very sceptical. He was applying scientific reasoning and rationality to try to find any evidence for these biblical accounts. Hi David. I'm less than please with the replacement of the Introduction to evolution article with the current version. There are components that are excellent and could have been incorporated; however, I generated a list of concerns with my limited skill sets. == MSU Interview ==

Dear David D.,

My name is Jonathan Obar ], I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community], where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:
* Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
* Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
* All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
* All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
* The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name] instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --] (]) — Preceding ] comment added by ] (] • ]) 14:07, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that you had unblocked Atul on a "trial basis". Please look into his recent canvassing in 7 unrelated talk pages about certain wikipedia articles, and his call-to-action directed towards certain religious adherents. Not to mention his message was extremely POV in religious lines.

Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 06:53, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

I would also like to add that, this user admitted to using an anon IP to continue his disruptive edits while his account was banned, (that IP itself was blocked due to disruptive edits). The IP in question is 99.235.98.169, and the user admits to using this IP here. --Ragib (talk) 07:58, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Introgression

Hi, first of all nice work to all of you doing the genetics section for wikipedia - it's been extremely valuable for me in my revision.

I'm all new to this Misplaced Pages editing stuff. I don't want to edit an article myself because i'm no expert on the subject and I get the impression that you're associated with the article on introgression so I thought I'd write to you about it.

As I say i'm no expert on the subject, but this is what I have been led to believe and a few minutes of research seem to confirm this (except if you look in the free online dictionary which seems to think that it is specifically related to backcrossing between offspring and parents).

Anyway I thought that you might be interested. If you know otherwise then please let me know, because it would be useful for my exams!

Cheers

Definitely. But there were so many edits flying around I didn't want to get caught in edit clashes. Also it took me a while to figure out the references, I didn't have time to double check them either. Some seemed out of place so i might have got them wrong. David D. (Talk) 01:09, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

I was judging the quality of his contribution to the 100m and 200 m pages alone. I did not check the rest. I agree the rest are not great, but his edits on the 100 and 200 agree with everything I have ever read on the sprints. David D. (Talk) 21:09, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Giano

I made it exceedingly clear that was not to be done without either my agreement (and then of course anyone else would be free to reblock), or with consensus on ANI. Neither of those things exists. Please restore the block and continue discussion on ANI. Prodego 05:24, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I also ask you to revert your unblock. You admittedly didn't read the full discussion and even worse didn't talk to the blocking admin about it. RxS (talk) 05:29, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

David D. (Talk) 05:50, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

For the record, I have never before been involved with Giano, and am just as uninvolved as you, if not more. Again I am asking you to reverse your out of process and out of consensus unblock and continue discussion. Prodego 06:01, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Your reversal of the block was seriously beyond the realm of policy or good judgment. I strongly advise you to reconsider. We simply don't unblock without talking to the blocking admin or serious consensus that the block was inappropriate, which does not exist here. - Philippe 06:45, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Introduction to evolution

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Introduction to evolution. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Misplaced Pages:Notability and "What Misplaced Pages is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Introduction to evolution (3rd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:05, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Your sandbox2

I ran across User:David D./sandbox2 in a Google search for text added to Plant Cell. It appears to be a copy of http://www.uri.edu/cels/bio/plant_anatomy/glossary.html. Unless you are Alison Roberts, it would seem to be a copyright violation. Am I missing something?--Curtis Clark (talk) 16:55, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

It's a sand box, a guide for future topics. It is a copyright even if not in the main namespace? David D. (Talk) 17:50, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear David D.,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Misplaced Pages administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

 • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
 • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
 • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
 • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
 • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review).

If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chlopeck (talkcontribs) 14:07, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Science lovers wanted!

Science lovers wanted!
Hi! I'm serving as the wikipedian-in-residence at the Smithsonian Institution Archives until June! One of my goals as resident, is to work with Wikipedians and staff to improve content on Misplaced Pages about people who have collections held in the Archives - most of these are scientists who held roles within the Smithsonian and/or federal government. I thought you might like to participate since you are interested in the sciences! Sign up to participate here and dive into articles needing expansion and creation on our to-do list. Feel free to make a request for images or materials at the request page, and of course, if you share your successes at the outcomes page you will receive the SIA barnstar! Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to your participation! Sarah (talk) 01:10, 18 April 2012 (UTC)|}

Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
