==was it a war?==
From what I have read (from a book I no longer have access to) it was really an industrial dispute and only escalated into violence because the slave owners responded with murder. As such it really isn't a part of Military history but an especially dark chapter in industrial relations.

was it a war?

From what I have read (from a book I no longer have access to) it was really an industrial dispute and only escalated into violence because the slave owners responded with murder. As such it really isn't a part of Military history but an especially dark chapter in industrial relations.
