== New issues with Newspapers.com == == Wiley issues ==

{{ping|Netoholic|}} I have left you a message on the Library Platform my Application History. Newspaper.com was only a 3-month renewal. Strange. I see by the multiple threads above, that we are having subscription/renewal issues with Newspapers.com. Please advise. ] (]) 19:37, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

:{{ping|Netoholic|}} My Newspapers.com subscription expired sometime yesterday. I've requested a renewal on the Library Platform. But why only three months at a time, now? ] (]) 01:14, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
::That's weird, because I renewed in March also and mine came thru as 1 year. Could be a typo or something on their part. You should get a renewal in a couple days. Let me know if its not 1 year. -- ] ] 06:22, 26 June 2022 (UTC)

*{{ping|Netoholic|}} This really gets old. As of today, I cannot access the newspaper.com site, not through my normal account, nor through the Misplaced Pages Library. Lana at Newspapers.com Support emailed me on June 30 that my subscription was extended for a year. It was working yesterday. But as of today, although I can access all other subscriptions through the Library Platform, this one insists I go to the application. And the application tells me it was "sent to partner" on June 30, but no record of anything else. Please get this fast tracked. Thank you.
::Alright, I just got in through my original account Newspaper.com by signing in there from scratch. But going through the Misplaced Pages Library Platform does not allow me access. ] (]) 01:43, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
::Thats correct. Newspapers.com doesn't work like many other Misplaced Pages Library resources. It requires you to be logged in on Newspapers.com, the WL link is really just a redirect to their website. -- ] ] 02:13, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
:::Thank you! That explains it, then. I need to log like I always did. ] (]) 02:23, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

== Ancestry.com membership not working ==

Hello! Recently, my application for the Ancestry.com World Explorer membership was approved, and I was emailed login details for my account, with which I was successfully able to log in. However, the account is only has a "registered guest" membership and not the World Explorer membership that is listen on the Misplaced Pages Library. I tried calling Ancestry.com tech support and they had no idea about the Misplaced Pages Library, much less on how to help me. I know there are previous discussions about this, but no one seems to be having this specific issue. Any help here? Thanks in advance! ] (]) 23:49, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

== Discussion about better navigation to partner search links ==

Readers of this page may be interested in a discussion taking place about providing better access to partner direct search links, by means of a configurable nav box with links that go straight to the partner search page (or even to the partner's search result page, under parametric control). Please see ]. Thanks, ] (]) 01:09, 28 July 2022 (UTC)

== JSTOR access is being limited ==
For months I've been able to access and download articles from JSTOR. For no reason I can determine, I'm now back on a limited access basis, meaning I can access up to 100 articles per month but I can only view them online, not as downloaded pdf's. With that, I'm now uncertain about my status as a WP Library user. I recall signing up, but none of the particulars.

How do I determine if I'm in fact registered? I'd also appreciate feedback on my access to JSTOR. Thank you. ] (]) 01:18, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

:In fishing around a bit, I was able to access JSTOR through the Library's listing. This provides me with the download feature, so generally speaking I'm okay with that. The downside is that for months I was able to navigate directly to JSTOR, which I do frequently. Apparently, I'm now going to have to go through an additional step. Does anybody know why or how this changed? ] (]) 01:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::Going through the Library's listing loads the oclc.org proxy. If you log into jstor.org with a username/password (if the Library still supplies one), you won't need the proxy. <span style="background:#F3F3F3; padding:3px 9px 4px">]</span> 02:59, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::{{re|Allreet}} As Czar explained, the only way for websites like JSTOR to know you're a Misplaced Pages editor and accessing via the library is to go to https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/, sign in, and click the 'Access Collection' button under the relevant entry. You'll then be routed via the IP proxy, so that JSTOR can know where you've come from and that you should have access :) ] (]) 12:52, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
:::@] and@]. What's strange is that I was able to access JSTOR articles without going through the library for 2-3 months. So I was surprised yesterday to find I was back on the 100-articles-a-month plan. I'm sure there's an explanation for how that happened, but I don't need to know. Thanks. ] (]) 15:21, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::::{{u|Allreet}} My very untechnically-oriented experience is that when I search google, I get and can access Jstor without signing in as long as the Wiki-Library has not decided to arbitrarily sign me off of the library. I do not know why this happens, as I do not get signed out of Misplaced Pages, only the library, repeatedly. If I sign back in to the library, the Jstor access returns without limits until the WPLibrary signs me out again. I assumed this only happened to me because I am in Mexico. I also get weird messages from time to time from EBSCO host that I must sign into their international channel because the WP version is only for North America (um, like someone doesn't really understand geography). If I sign out and back in, the problem goes away. (At least once a year I have to have newspaperarchive.com "whitewash" (whatever that is) my account or I cannot access it.) In spite of the occasional issues, I am still thankful to have access to sources I would not be able to use otherwise. ] (]) 16:05, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
:::::{{u|SusunW}}: Well, that explains most everything. You may be untechnically-oriented but practical results are equally valuable. I was a technical writer for a software company for 20 years and my only background was as a writer, which turned out to be more useful in what I did than a knowledge of coding. The main difference: I was paid considerably less. Drat. I just tried JSTOR directly and I'm again being recognized without going through the Library. Now I understand why. Thanks. ] (]) 18:14, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::::::{{u|Allreet}} Glad to be able to help and glad that worked for you. Again, I don't know why that log-off thing happens, but as long as I have a solution, I'm happy. ] (]) 19:44, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
:::::::@], the 100-article limit means that you're using a standard JSTOR account, i.e., anyone can sign up for JSTOR and have that limit.
:::::::There are two ways to access JSTOR through the Misplaced Pages Library: with and without a proxy. A proxy is what changes your web address from jstor.com to www-jstor-org.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org—it's routing your traffic through oclc.org to get to JSTOR. When you browse to jstor.org via Google, you won't have the proxy and will need to sign in with a JSTOR account. Your access will depend on whether that JSTOR account is attached to the the Misplaced Pages Library (unlimited views) or unattached (standard 100-view limit).
:::::::When you use the proxy by browsing via the Misplaced Pages Library link, there is no need to log in, as JSTOR already knows you're coming from an approved site. (This is how most college access works.) If you log in with your account to the proxy, you will likely need to do it each time because the proxy won't remember and either way it won't bring you extra benefit.
:::::::Something I recommend is to download the free/open source citation manager Zotero, which not only helps export and format citations into Misplaced Pages house style, but also has a web browser plug-in that will detect that you like using the oclc.org proxy and will ask you whether you want to transfer to the proxy whenever you browse to regular jstor.org in the future. This will make sure you're always browsing with access and will save some confusion over how to get back to the article by backtracking via the Misplaced Pages Library interface.
:::::::That's the gist (in broad strokes/the details might be a little off). Hope it helps. <span style="background:#F3F3F3; padding:3px 9px 4px">]</span> 21:53, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::::::::Excellent information. I'll download Zotero per your recommendation. I now understand the proxy piece of this including how I ended up again on JSTOR's "100 article plan" and how to avoid it. All shows it never hurts to ask. Actually, information like this should be made available to all new up-and-coming editors: grist for an online course? In any case, I limped along for years without any JSTOR and Internet Archive access, thinking it was closed to individual non-subscribers. Of course, the Library itself was a great discovery as well. Live and learn. Thanks. ] (]) 22:25, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

== How does one go about suggesting a source to be added? ==

How can we reach out to folks running Misplaced Pages Library, so that they in turn reach out to archives/databases and such and ask them to join? :{{re|Piotrus}} You can click 'Suggest a collection' to navigate to https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/suggest/, where we're collecting suggestions :) ] (]) 11:37, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
::Cool. Ping ] - if you can figure out how to request Pyramid content, we can ask there. The problem is I am not sure they even offer a subscription, just pdfs for sale... could still ask WL to ask them to give as a "free" account (with pre-purchased archival stuff?)? ]&#124;] 10:24, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
::If you're actually "collecting" suggestions on that page, then please moderate it for the love of god... The abundance of duplicates, copyvio site suggestions, and sites that are already in the library makes you go "Clearly no one's seeing this, why bother" and feel stupid to participate. ] (]) 11:09, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Is something up with this partnership? I noticed that links to clippings there don't seem to be working--they landed me at a login page that didn't accept my current saved credentials (which usually work, I've used the site within the past week). When I checked "My Applications" at TWL, it doesn't show any past record of subscribing or renewing (which I know I've done annually for a while). BUT, weirdest twist yet, I can login by using the "access collection" button at TWL. But if use clippings from there, will anyone be able to access them? Doesn't seem like this will work for citations as it stands. ] (]) 21:17, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
:], it's moved to no longer require applications; everyone who meets the minimum requirements has access automatically. You should still be able to go through Access Collection to save clippings - is that working for you? == De Gruyter ==

Greetings!

I am still new to the ''Misplaced Pages Library'', but shouldn't '''De Gruyter Journals''' be part of the collection?

I am trying to access the following source, but can't find my way to access the article anywhere:

<code>Kearns, C. M. (2022). 7 Irigaray’s Between East and West Breath, Pranayama, and the Phenomenology of Prayer. Fordham University Press. https://doi.org/10.1515/9780823293148-008</code>

For some time yet, the Wiley access does not seem to work properly. If you try to access the URL https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1155/2015/398796 https://wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/login?auth=production&url=https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/ it just redirects to https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/ and https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1155/2015/398796 throws a redirect error. Only after a few reload attempts does it work. ] (]) 08:53, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks a lot in advance to you good folks!

:@] Sorry to hear about this issue. I can't reproduce the redirect error, but do see the redirection happening - this might be because it's an open access title and therefore doesn't require proxy-based access. :::@] It seems like the redirection is intentional - Wiley seems to have their website set up so that the proxy just authenticates you, and then you get a cookie or something which follows you out of the proxy, so you can browse the website without needing to have a proxied URL anymore. == Newspapers.com renewed access not working? ==
== Newspaper archive page results redirecting to paper's home page ==

Per what {{u|Samwalton9 (WMF)}} stated above, I requested renewed access to Newspapers.com through the TWL Applications system. I was just granted it yesterday, but in trying to use it right now, it says "Upgrade to a Publisher Extra Subscription to view this page". Which, if I remember, was an issue we were having with the old system where it wasn't considering us to have an actual account. I notice the "Go to site" link through the TWL isn't taking me to the version where it says "Welcome to Wikimedia Foundation" at the top.
I have recently noticed that various newspaper archive links are redirecting to the newspaper's home page.

So this is taking me to the regular Newspapers.com and not the https://www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/ version. But when I manually go to that one, it doesn't show me as logged in to my account and I can't clip without that. But when I try to log in through that version, it causes an error and won't log me in. I suppose I should also ping {{u|VSj (WMF)}}. ]]] 01:27, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
These pages are found via a Google search. But clicking on the link brings you to the homepage rather than the archived story. No Google cache seems to be available. And the pages are often not archived by the Internet Archive.
:Oh, good news. The proxy duping method we've been using this whole time still works. So I can get access to clip things that way. But, Samwalton9, didn't you say it would stop working after getting access through this old system? ]]] 01:29, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
:The email I received said that my application has been approved (on TWL side), but it'll take a week or two to actually get access (on newspapers.com side). Wiley issues

Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:53, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

@Jo-Jo Eumerus Sorry to hear about this issue. I can't reproduce the redirect error, but do see the redirection happening - this might be because it's an open access title and therefore doesn't require proxy-based access. Does this still happen when trying to open closed-access sources? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 10:25, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Yes. https://onlinelibrary-wiley-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/doi/epdf/10.1002/asna.201311902 throws a redirect error as does https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/asna.201311902 unfortunately I can't filter the various broken URLs by access status. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 11:08, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
@Jo-Jo Eumerus It seems like the redirection is intentional - Wiley seems to have their website set up so that the proxy just authenticates you, and then you get a cookie or something which follows you out of the proxy, so you can browse the website without needing to have a proxied URL anymore. I can't reproduce the redirect error, unfortunately. What is the specific error message you're seeing? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 14:46, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
The "websites redirects the request in a manner that means it won't ever be complete" error, which I guess is a circular redirect. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 16:09, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
FWIW, https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdfdirect/10.1029/2023JB028371 is open source, but at first it shows a "the page isn't redirecting properly" error, then https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/action/oidcCallback?idpCode=connect&error=login_required&error_description=Login+required&state=Dps2IO0LOrpSUAYYguc7KtNDqa48N0uOkiR8QSifxiQQyK3B4L0%2FehVWERqz25eAZMEVPYSEia%2BEFCWBOY%2FSK9zecolralF6tMAxsNoH1kazY2OCnGwQIFkQPBckn%2FM9kJxQBf9Rym%2F0WyXUkx972jrKQRMaZ4WZh3AjlZTGBJGb2gBLN2c%2Fv5eIEpHON8sKhMkygjQi3F2wiOg%2BZHkOwHaaS8XQqytF0lNkE3kGw%2Fe%2Fc8g6t7To%2BW%2F%2FNpUqy65s%2BJ5GOQKlzugqQTlJFCVEecVz15%2BQUQpSlcnbeyzsgxBxHQiDSmAG7WnYKk2egCfX and only on third try https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdfdirect/10.1029/2023JB028371 shows up. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:00, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
@Jo-Jo Eumerus Do you have any extensions or browser configurations that would block or restrict cookies? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 11:31, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Redirector and Snap Links are the only ones. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 13:57, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
@Jo-Jo Eumerus Have you tried disabling Redirector and seeing if you still get the same issue? Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 15:08, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Not yet. It wouldn't solve the problem, anyway; I tend to access sources via Google Scholar and if I need to manually alter the URL then that's even worse. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 15:30, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
@Jo-Jo Eumerus Are you using the TWL Google Scholar integration, or using Redirector to proxy links from Scholar results? If the latter, I wonder if what's happening is you're getting redirected from no-proxy, to proxy, to no-proxy, and Firefox gets confused. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 15:47, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
The latter, but I notice from this and this that the integration has the exact same issue. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 16:07, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Newspapers.com renewed access not working?

Per what Samwalton9 (WMF) stated above, I requested renewed access to Newspapers.com through the TWL Applications system.

I suppose I should also ping VSj (WMF). Silverseren 01:27, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Oh, good news. The proxy duping method we've been using this whole time still works. So I can get access to clip things that way. But, Samwalton9, didn't you say it would stop working after getting access through this old system? Silverseren 01:29, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
The email I received said that my application has been approved (on TWL side), but it'll take a week or two to actually get access (on newspapers.com side). When I go to https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/ and click "My applications", it says "Sent to partner". AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 01:52, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Ah, that must be why. Alright. Looks like I can still use the proxy duping method in the meantime. Silverseren 02:49, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
But ... newspapers.com does not appear in the list of available databases. Am I missing something? --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 01:42, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
Have you checked the "Available Collections" tab? AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 02:08, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
It was in there and I've put in a request for renewal of my access. User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 01:48, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
I believe that some mechanism will be required to gain access to the database, similar to what was previously mandated. Once granted, all problems should disappear. Coretheapple (talk) 13:53, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
My access has just come back! I didn't have to do anything myself, when I went to my account today they'd upgraded it to "Complimentary Publisher Extra Annual", and I've just successfully made a clipping. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:49, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
Working now for me. Happy to take requests for clips. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 12:59, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
The first batch of Newspapers.com accounts should now be activated! Sam Walton (talk) 14:13, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
Yes they have. A pleasant surprise! Thanks for your hard work on this. Coretheapple (talk) 14:32, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
Access granted – thank you very much! Mapple (talk) 19:59, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
Access granted, thanks. But I'm still having the issue with the Cloudflare captcha when using Safari on macOS. Unable to log in at all with this browser.
Do you have any contacts there that could look into this?
PK-WIKI (talk) 20:37, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
@PK-WIKI I would recommend contacting Newspapers.com Support directly. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 07:59, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
My belated thanks! -- Zanimum (talk) 00:32, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Oxford Classical Dictionary unavailable

It seems that the Misplaced Pages Library account for Oxford Research Encyclopedias is no longer giving access to articles such as Badian's "equites, origins and republic". Did something change? Or is this just an error? Ifly6 (talk) 23:26, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

newspapers.com

Hi there, I had an email around three weeks ago saying that my access to newspapers.com had been restored, however the button for that database just shows "go to site", which when clicked just takes me to the generic front page of the site. Is it possible that my access is still being processed, three weeks on? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:05, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Hello there, sounds like your application is already approved and the "Go to Site" button is normal. Have you tried to login in Newspapers.com with your account? (make sure to use an account you listed in your application) If you see the Subscriber below your Newspapers.com username, it's done. Remember to renew your Newspapers.com access in a year. Vulcan❯❯❯Sphere! 08:23, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Ah yes, that seems to work now. It didn't when I last tried to log in. Thanks! -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 09:01, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
You are welcome! Vulcan❯❯❯Sphere! 10:31, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Once again I seem to have lost access to Newspapers.com. I have sent a note to their tech support, but have a search I really wanted to complete. Any suggestions? --Orange Mike | Talk 01:36, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

@Orangemike It seems like you haven't yet received a login after we moved back to the old method of access, but I can see that you've filed an application as of today, so we'll get that processed and you should get set up with individual subscription access. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 15:43, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
It's been taken care of, apparently. I can get in now. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:47, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

ProQuest Central

Hi, it appears we have access to Financial Times (FT.com) via ProQuest Central, but I'm unable to view any full content. No errors appear, but only the article details are displayed without the full text. Ratekreel (talk) 17:37, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
