== Newspapers.com renewed access not working? ==
== JSTOR access is being limited ==
For months I've been able to access and download articles from JSTOR. For no reason I can determine, I'm now back on a limited access basis, meaning I can access up to 100 articles per month but I can only view them online, not as downloaded pdf's. With that, I'm now uncertain about my status as a WP Library user. I recall signing up, but none of the particulars.
How do I determine if I'm in fact registered? I'd also appreciate feedback on my access to JSTOR. Thank you. ] (]) 01:18, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
:In fishing around a bit, I was able to access JSTOR through the Library's listing. This provides me with the download feature, so generally speaking I'm okay with that. The downside is that for months I was able to navigate directly to JSTOR, which I do frequently. Apparently, I'm now going to have to go through an additional step. Does anybody know why or how this changed? ] (]) 01:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::Going through the Library's listing loads the oclc.org proxy. If you log into jstor.org with a username/password (if the Library still supplies one), you won't need the proxy. <span style="background:#F3F3F3; padding:3px 9px 4px">]</span> 02:59, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::{{re|Allreet}} As Czar explained, the only way for websites like JSTOR to know you're a Misplaced Pages editor and accessing via the library is to go to https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/, sign in, and click the 'Access Collection' button under the relevant entry. You'll then be routed via the IP proxy, so that JSTOR can know where you've come from and that you should have access :) ] (]) 12:52, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
:::@] and@]. What's strange is that I was able to access JSTOR articles without going through the library for 2-3 months. So I was surprised yesterday to find I was back on the 100-articles-a-month plan. I'm sure there's an explanation for how that happened, but I don't need to know. Thanks. ] (]) 15:21, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::::{{u|Allreet}} My very untechnically-oriented experience is that when I search google, I get and can access Jstor without signing in as long as the Wiki-Library has not decided to arbitrarily sign me off of the library. I do not know why this happens, as I do not get signed out of Misplaced Pages, only the library, repeatedly. If I sign back in to the library, the Jstor access returns without limits until the WPLibrary signs me out again. I assumed this only happened to me because I am in Mexico. I also get weird messages from time to time from EBSCO host that I must sign into their international channel because the WP version is only for North America (um, like someone doesn't really understand geography). If I sign out and back in, the problem goes away. (At least once a year I have to have newspaperarchive.com "whitewash" (whatever that is) my account or I cannot access it.) In spite of the occasional issues, I am still thankful to have access to sources I would not be able to use otherwise. ] (]) 16:05, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
:::::{{u|SusunW}}: Well, that explains most everything. You may be untechnically-oriented but practical results are equally valuable. I was a technical writer for a software company for 20 years and my only background was as a writer, which turned out to be more useful in what I did than a knowledge of coding. The main difference: I was paid considerably less. Drat. I just tried JSTOR directly and I'm again being recognized without going through the Library. Now I understand why. Thanks. ] (]) 18:14, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::::::{{u|Allreet}} Glad to be able to help and glad that worked for you. Again, I don't know why that log-off thing happens, but as long as I have a solution, I'm happy. ] (]) 19:44, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
:::::::@], the 100-article limit means that you're using a standard JSTOR account, i.e., anyone can sign up for JSTOR and have that limit.
:::::::There are two ways to access JSTOR through the Misplaced Pages Library: with and without a proxy. A proxy is what changes your web address from jstor.com to www-jstor-org.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org—it's routing your traffic through oclc.org to get to JSTOR. When you browse to jstor.org via Google, you won't have the proxy and will need to sign in with a JSTOR account. Your access will depend on whether that JSTOR account is attached to the the Misplaced Pages Library (unlimited views) or unattached (standard 100-view limit).
:::::::When you use the proxy by browsing via the Misplaced Pages Library link, there is no need to log in, as JSTOR already knows you're coming from an approved site. (This is how most college access works.) If you log in with your account to the proxy, you will likely need to do it each time because the proxy won't remember and either way it won't bring you extra benefit.
:::::::Something I recommend is to download the free/open source citation manager Zotero, which not only helps export and format citations into Misplaced Pages house style, but also has a web browser plug-in that will detect that you like using the oclc.org proxy and will ask you whether you want to transfer to the proxy whenever you browse to regular jstor.org in the future. This will make sure you're always browsing with access and will save some confusion over how to get back to the article by backtracking via the Misplaced Pages Library interface.
:::::::That's the gist (in broad strokes/the details might be a little off). Hope it helps. <span style="background:#F3F3F3; padding:3px 9px 4px">]</span> 21:53, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
::::::::Excellent information. I'll download Zotero per your recommendation. I now understand the proxy piece of this including how I ended up again on JSTOR's "100 article plan" and how to avoid it. All shows it never hurts to ask. Actually, information like this should be made available to all new up-and-coming editors: grist for an online course? In any case, I limped along for years without any JSTOR and Internet Archive access, thinking it was closed to individual non-subscribers. Of course, the Library itself was a great discovery as well. Live and learn. Thanks. ] (]) 22:25, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

::Cool. Ping ] - if you can figure out how to request Pyramid content, we can ask there. The problem is I am not sure they even offer a subscription, just pdfs for sale... could still ask WL to ask them to give as a "free" account (with pre-purchased archival stuff?)? ]|] 10:24, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
::If you're actually "collecting" suggestions on that page, then please moderate it for the love of god... The abundance of duplicates, copyvio site suggestions, and sites that are already in the library makes you go "Clearly no one's seeing this, why bother" and feel stupid to participate. ] (]) 11:09, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Is something up with this partnership? I noticed that links to clippings there don't seem to be working--they landed me at a login page that didn't accept my current saved credentials (which usually work, I've used the site within the past week). When I checked "My Applications" at TWL, it doesn't show any past record of subscribing or renewing (which I know I've done annually for a while). BUT, weirdest twist yet, I can login by using the "access collection" button at TWL. But if use clippings from there, will anyone be able to access them? Doesn't seem like this will work for citations as it stands. ] (]) 21:17, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

You should still be able to go through Access Collection to save clippings - is that working for you? Newspapers.com renewed access not working?
Per what Samwalton9 (WMF) stated above, I requested renewed access to Newspapers.com through the TWL Applications system. I was just granted it yesterday, but in trying to use it right now, it says "Upgrade to a Publisher Extra Subscription to view this page". Which, if I remember, was an issue we were having with the old system where it wasn't considering us to have an actual account. I notice the "Go to site" link through the TWL isn't taking me to the version where it says "Welcome to Wikimedia Foundation" at the top.
So this is taking me to the regular Newspapers.com and not the https://www-newspapers-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/ version. But when I manually go to that one, it doesn't show me as logged in to my account and I can't clip without that. But when I try to log in through that version, it causes an error and won't log me in. I suppose I should also ping VSj (WMF). Silverseren 01:27, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

When I go to https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/ and click "My applications", it says "Sent to partner". AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 01:52, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

- My access has just come back! I didn't have to do anything myself, when I went to my account today they'd upgraded it to "Complimentary Publisher Extra Annual", and I've just successfully made a clipping. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:49, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Working now for me. Happy to take requests for clips. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 12:59, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

- Yes they have. A pleasant surprise! Thanks for your hard work on this. Coretheapple (talk) 14:32, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Access granted – thank you very much! Mapple (talk) 19:59, 10 October 2024 (UTC)
- Access granted, thanks. But I'm still having the issue with the Cloudflare captcha when using Safari on macOS. Unable to log in at all with this browser.
- Do you have any contacts there that could look into this?

- @PK-WIKI I would recommend contacting Newspapers.com Support directly. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 07:59, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

Oxford Classical Dictionary unavailable
It seems that the Misplaced Pages Library account for Oxford Research Encyclopedias is no longer giving access to articles such as Badian's "equites, origins and republic". Did something change? Or is this just an error? Ifly6 (talk) 23:26, 8 October 2024 (UTC)

newspapers.com
Hi there, I had an email around three weeks ago saying that my access to newspapers.com had been restored, however the button for that database just shows "go to site", which when clicked just takes me to the generic front page of the site. Is it possible that my access is still being processed, three weeks on? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:05, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hello there, sounds like your application is already approved and the "Go to Site" button is normal. Have you tried to login in Newspapers.com with your account? (make sure to use an account you listed in your application) If you see the Subscriber below your Newspapers.com username, it's done. Remember to renew your Newspapers.com access in a year. Vulcan❯❯❯Sphere! 08:23, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ah yes, that seems to work now. It didn't when I last tried to log in. Thanks! -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 09:01, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Once again I seem to have lost access to Newspapers.com. I have sent a note to their tech support, but have a search I really wanted to complete. Any suggestions? --Orange Mike | Talk 01:36, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Orangemike It seems like you haven't yet received a login after we moved back to the old method of access, but I can see that you've filed an application as of today, so we'll get that processed and you should get set up with individual subscription access. Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 15:43, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's been taken care of, apparently. I can get in now. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:47, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
ProQuest Central
Hi, it appears we have access to Financial Times (FT.com) via ProQuest Central, but I'm unable to view any full content. No errors appear, but only the article details are displayed without the full text. Ratekreel (talk) 17:37, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Can you tell us which articles you're trying to access? I just tried two that I found on ft.com and both loaded fine (in ProQuest), with full text. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 18:00, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm trying to access this by Francis Fukuyama. Ratekreel (talk) 04:11, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- In meanwhile, you can access it via archive.today. AstonishingTunesAdmirer 連絡 11:26, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

- At least some of the Financial Times (ft.com) articles may be full text— log in to Wikimedia and Wikpedia Library, then ProQuest. Then bring up the listing for FT.Com issues, click on Proquest Central. That site indicates that "Full text coverage" is available for issues "from Oct 29, 2001 - present (delayed 1 month)." You can scroll down and select the contents of specific issues. However, there's disclaimer, "This publication may be subject to restrictions within certain markets, including corporations, non-profits, government institutions, and public libraries. In those cases records will be visible to users, but not full text." — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 21:32, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, is there a one month delay? That would explain it. Ratekreel (talk) 04:16, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

What happened to newspapers.com?
It's not on Misplaced Pages Library list anymore, and manually trying to access it gives me errors on search. What happened? Chuterix (talk) 03:28, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
