Thank you for your work fixing lint errors. I found ] in , and I looked into the page history so I could understand what went wrong in your edit just before mine. We all make mistakes, and hopefully you didn't make many of this type, which is actually two types, because you removed some of the display text and left a tag without a closing tag. When I edit, I always run lintHint to make sure I haven't introduced any new lint errors. Also, I noticed in {{Diff|Portal talk:Linguistics/Archive 1|1096539845|prev|your edit of 03:41, 5 July 2022 (UTC)}} of ] you changed <code><nowiki><tt>n</tt></nowiki></code> to <code><nowiki><samp>n</samp></nowiki></code>, but this is not correct. See ], where it explains the various replacedments for {{tag|tt}}. {{tag|samp}} is only for computer output, and this isn't computer output. The replacement for {{tag|tt}} in the general case is {{tlx|mono}}. Also, the purpose of an edit summary is to inform other users about that specific edit. For this reason, my edit summaries usually detail every change I made. Take a look at ] for how expressive my edit summaries are. It may amuse you to keep a tally of your lint fixes, but I don't think the edit summary is the place for that tally. Instead of the tally, put in the details, so other editors will learn from your correction what not to do. Cheers! ―] (]) 06:06, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Idk why I like to keep a tally of my fixes but it's so I can keep track of how many Linter errors I've fixed, sorry if you don't appreciate it but if it becomes a problem eventually I may have to stop :(

== Re: signature ==

Hi, thanks for the heads up. The reason I have it that way is because with span tags, the underline isn't the custom color, unlike with font tags. I've used this signature on other wikis in the past without issue, so unless there's an easy workaround to change the underline color (when the link is clicked), I don't see a huge need to change it. ]] 20:54, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

:You can use <code>text-decoration: inherit;</code> to change the link color, but in cases where you have <nowiki></nowiki> tags, unfortunately there will be two lines when hovering over the link. I don't know why :( ] (]) 23:57, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
::Okay, so that's not ideal then - is it against policy to use outdated html tags or is it just a recommendation? ]] 00:54, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
:::It's not against policy, but it's better if you switch to span tags. ] (]) 01:11, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

== Fixing lint errors ==

:<nowiki>{{center}}</nowiki> in <nowiki><span></nowiki> tags unfortunately doesn't work as it makes the text invisible. A better replacement is to use <nowiki><style="text-align:center;"></nowiki>. (see for more info) ] (]) 21:28, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

:If these edits really are causing notifications (which I question), you might want to limit your edits to other namespaces, like Misplaced Pages or Misplaced Pages Talk, where there are plenty of errors available. ] also lists AWB-ready patterns that need fixing. Thanks for doing these Linter error fixes. – ] (]) 12:40, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
:Its true, making any edits to a base User talk page sends a new message notification. Of course, it is not that annoying for IPs compared to registered user talk pages. That's why User talk Lint fixing should be done by bots, since bot + minor edit will not send a notification. You had submitted a BRFA, I don't know why you withdrew. BRFAs are slow moving by nature, but someone will process it eventually. Or as Jonesey as said above, you can concentrate on WP and WT pages (2 million errors there) and leave User talk for MalnadachBot. I haven't done any in weeks since the bot is busy with the bottomless pit which is Task 13. I will clear a few this weekend. ] (]) 15:24, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
::I kinda withdrew bc I thought it was unlikely gonna ever get a comment (no response in ~10-14d) so I had to withdraw it, but at any time I may send another one any time soon when I feel like it. <p>It was withdrawn as slate bc of this reason, although some time later I may send another BRFA and hopefully get things done :(</p><p>Also note that I've now filed a BRFA to try to clear all font tags using regex expressions involving font tags and it can take a while to process as a replacement for MalnadachBot 12. 1201-1250 is a good start, then I may find other regex expressions to include so I may try to clear them all at once per page. </p>] (]) 15:44, 21 October 2022 (UTC)

Some explanation on why I may consider ending my WP career

You might have noticed why I placed {{Considering retirement}} on my user page.

Video games (especially Minecraft) and coding have been taking up a lot of my time in my life, and I may not have enough time to contribute hundreds of edits a day as I used to (it happens sometimes). As time progresses, grades become more important and are a factor in seeing if I can get into university. Therefore, I have to spend more time doing assignments and studying for tests and eventually, exams.

WP used to be addicting last summer/autumn until video games became more addicting to me than WP. As a result, the number of edits I've made have decreased from my peak. In other words, I'm slowly losing interest in editing WP.

I am in my third year of secondary school. I'm doing very well there and should expect to get to university at this rate, and I want to stay that way. That said, being on WP during class may deter my goal of getting to university, and my school may ban the use of WP when I am in grade 11/12 so I may not edit much there. I may use WP during class time when I have free time.

There is also some IRL stuff I have to do as an adolescent as I prepare for adulthood. I have to do chores for my parents, know how to do adult stuff, etc. I plan to become a computer programmer after I finish post-secondary school.

In short, editing as an adolescent (especially when I have school) is not easy.

Some task(s) to do before ending my career here:

  • Finish task 2 of lint fixing (no precise ETA)
This user is busy in real life and may not respond swiftly to queries.

You are free to leave any messages on my talk. When it is full I will move some of them to my archives. :)

Task 2 update

I'm hoping to get task 2 done by the end of April this year. Hopefully when I have more time I'll finish off it. Sheep (talkhe/him) 14:36, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

This is a note to encourage you to do this task 2. It appears that there are something like 11,000 pages just in User Talk, each with seven or more Linter errors. Fixing them would make a nice dent in our three million remaining errors and save human editors a lot of tedious editing. Go bot go! – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:18, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Permission error

Seems like my bot stopped working because "This user doesn't have enough privileges to make automatic edits on this wiki." I don't know what caused this.

Looks like it's because it was trying to run an outdated version of AWB. Updating it resolves the issue. Sheep (talkhe/him) 04:42, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

SheepLinterBot

Hey, I was wondering if it is possible for your bot's task 2 edits to be tagged with the Special:Tags "fixed lint errors" so this can be better tracked. Gonnym (talk) 09:25, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

Ok then, since my bot uses AWB I am wondering how this can be possible. Sheep (talkhe/him) 19:37, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
That's a good question, the documentation at Misplaced Pages:Tags and related pages doesn't really explain how to add this. Gonnym (talk) 18:21, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

For now I will run the bot without the "fixed lint errors" tag until I can figure out a way to include it within the bot's edits. Sheep (talkhe/him) 21:15, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
