Angelos Bountalis (Greek: Άγγελος Μπούνταλης; born 23 August 1991) is a Greek professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder and occasionally as a right-back.

Due to serious injuries, he missed a lot of time on the field between years.

Club career

Bountalis started his career at the youth teams of A.O. Peristeri F.C. and Agios Ierotheos and was promoted to the first team on 9 July 2009. In total, he played for three years with the Yellow-Black amassing a total of 22 caps, all playing in the defender position. He then moved to fellow 2nd tier outfit Fostiras in the summer of 2012, over the next two years he amassed 48 caps and 1 goal, he spent his last season under contract with Fostiras on loan with Cretan club Anagennisi Ierapetra before joining Agioi Anargyroi on 29 August 2017. His performances with Agioi Anargyroi impressed manager Gerald Baumgartner, who requested to arrange for Bountalis' transfer to his Austrian side SV Mattersburg in the summer of 2018. After SV Mattersburg disbanded in 2020, Bountalis signed with AO Karterados in August 2020, this didn't last long though due to minor injuries that only allowed him to make 11 appearances all season.

Injuries

In December 2013, while playing for the Fostiras team, Bountalis suffered a serious abdominal injury, this led to his loan the following summer to Anagennisi Ierapetra, as well as his participation in only 7 matches during the duration of his loan.

At the end of 2015, as he was preparing to return to Fostiras, he underwent an operation on his abdominal muscles, as he was constantly struggling in every training session. The abdominal surgery in February 2016 cost him the two entire following seasons.

The season of 2017-2018 he played without problems for the club of Agioi Anargyroi.

In 2018 he suffered an Achilles tendon injury and in the following two years he made only 15 appearances for SV Mattersburg.

At the beginning of 2021, while he was under contract with AO Karterados, his injuries did not allow him to have a good season or help in his renewal. He spent several years in treatment and is now looking for a new club.
