Since Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, it should, in my opinion which is based on my reading of the Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus, have the most formal vocabulary to ensure that it is a reference work or compendium, providing summaries of knowledge in a field. For example, here is a unformal American teenager ordering his lunch at his local McDonald's branch, "Yeah dude, cus I'm at a McDonald's, get me a Big Mac with French Fries and a cola, and make it quick.". Compared to a formal American of any age that has a vocabulary fit for Misplaced Pages, "Hi. Project page to request technical page moves ShortcutsIf you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.
|
- To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page. - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

- All their album releases include periods, so while it's likelly that they are often written about without the periods, this seems to be the proper way to spell the band's name. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 00:32, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

But I'll warn you that Misplaced Pages doesn't really care what's on the album cover. Misplaced Pages uses WP:COMMONNAME, not WP:OFFICIALNAME. — BarrelProof (talk) 15:43, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

- Medicare → Medicare (disambiguation) (currently a redirect back to Medicare) (move · discuss) – Medicare (United States) is actually a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term "Medicare" and has significant number of pageviews than Australian and Canadian counterparts. So, we need to move to move "Medicare (United States)" to base name "Medicare" and put DAB page name with "(disambiguation)" phrase at the end. 114.4.214.137 (talk) 03:32, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
- Not uncontroversial and should be discussed; WP:NWFCTM. The US article is obviously going to get more hits than other country articles just due to larger readership in US, but that doesn't make it the primary topic over the others nor make it more notable. - Works of art may not have lower importance, but real-world meanings come to the mind first. For example, Mammals are a biological class, exactly like Nuda. Other meanings are only artworks and art bands and the primary meaning is the class. — Petr Matas 14:47, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

- MOS:DASH says to use the en dash instead of hyphens in article titles. ''']''' (talk • contribs) 09:20, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Actually, regarding titles, the MOS says do not replace dashes with hyphens, but it does not say replace hyphens with dashes. Probably this MOS instruction is meant to counter a possible belief that simple characters are preferred in titles. In this case, the right character is the hyphen – see Talk:Anti-money laundering#Article name hyphenation: is it wrong? — Petr Matas 13:04, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

- I see! Now the hyphenation finally makes sense to me. "Anti-money" is a nonsense, but "anti–" is a prefix to "money laundering", right? Should we use the dash throughout the article as well? Shall we move this discussion to the article's talk page? — Petr Matas 22:17, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

- John Cleese on screen and stage → Filmography of John Cleese (move · discuss) – It seems a bit less formal for the article title to be "John Cleese on screen and stage". Upon your esteemed establishment, I would like to solicit a compromising meticulous assembled Big Mac please, accompanied by a side of golden crispy French Fries, and a refreshing beverage, of your most distinguished Cola, all of which I request to be served in a timely manner. Ensuring this optical temperature of consumption." It is more formal to be on the side of the second piece of dialogue that I provided, then the first piece of dialogue that I provided.
