He was a goalkeeper for Florida International University, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, and the U.S. Men's National Beach Soccer Team. As head coach of Florida Beach Soccer FC, he led the team to back-to-back North American Sand Soccer Championships in 2011 and 2012 and won the BagoSports Beach Football Invitational 2011, which took place in Trinidad and Tobago.

Professional soccer career

Antonopoulos signed a pro contract with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, where he played as the backup goalkeeper in 1993.

This team competed in the American Professional Soccer League (APSL). He was one of three players who went pro out of FIU at this time in 1993.

Chris Antonopoulos made two appearances (one start) for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers during the 1993 APSL season. In his two appearances, Antonopoulos played a total of 141 minutes, allowing 7 goals. In a match against the Tampa Bay Rowdies where he started on August 29, 1993, the Strikers lost 2-6.

During the 1993 season the Strikers finished in sixth place and failed to qualify for the playoffs with 9 wins and 15 losses.

International soccer career

From 2002 to 2006, Antonopoulos represented the United States Men's National Beach Soccer Team as a goalkeeper and later an assistant coach. In 2006, Antonopoulos was part of the U.S. team that won the inaugural CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship, earning their first title and qualification for the 2006 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Goalkeeper and coaching

In 2006, Chris Antonopoulos served as an assistant coach for Team USA during the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship. The team successfully qualified for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup that year.

Chris Antonopoulos was the general manager, head coach, and former goalkeeper of the Florida Beach Soccer FC founded in 2009, the team featured other professional Beach Soccer National players like Oscar Gil and Francis Farberoff.

In 2011, the squad won the National Championship at the U.S. Open Beach Soccer Championship at the North American Sand Soccer Championship (NASSC).

Later that year, they won the BagoSports Beach Football Invitational 2011, which took place Trinidad and Tobago, with a 5–3 victory over Stokely Vale FC ending 5-0-1 in the tournament.

Florida Beach Soccer FC also participated in the Clearwater Beach Soccer Tournament sponsored by the United Soccer League, which took place in 2011 as part of the Major Beach Soccer Tour, winning the championship.

The team achieved continued success by securing another national title at the 2012 U.S. Open Beach Soccer Championship at the North American Sand Soccer Championship (NASSC), defeating Deerfield Beach, another Florida-based team, with a score of 3-2.

In 2013, Florida Beach Soccer FC competed in the (NASSC) US Open Championship but lost to the Hampton Roads Soccer Council (HRSC) Elite in the finals.

The team also competed at the Beach Soccer Championships in Oceanside, California.
