Hello. I would like to inform you that there is an ongoing discussion at article ] (formerly was known as "Lost territories of the Baltic States", but was recently renamed; some users seems to disagree with that renaming). Recent edits as well were accused of POV, and, in fact, article was disputed for a long time already. There are currently no Estonian contributors to that article, therefore your opinion is much needed. It would be nice if you would add that article to your watchlist and continue helping to improve it until a decition will be reached about its future (there is currently a poll about it in the article's talk page). I hope together we all will be able to make that article neutral. ] 10:23, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

::Under history: Наступивший шведский период в истории Ивангорода растянулся почти на целое столетие, в течение которого Ивангородская крепость воспринималась исключительно как предместное укрепление Нарвы, составляя с ней единую оборонительную систему. И лишь Петру I, в ходе победоносной Северной войны (в 1704 г.), удалось окончательно вернуть России и Нарву, и Ивангород. Однако значение последнего уже не было так велико, как прежде, ибо за время шведского владычества роль "окна в Европу" перешла к только что основанному Петербургу. На протяжении XVIII-XIX веков развитие Ивангорода, ставшего частью Нарвы, шло по плану, лично утверждённому Екатериной II в 1784г.

== use of d'Hondt in Estonia's 3rd tier ==

Tere! :)

Many thanks for your explanation of the use of d'Hondt in Estonia 3rd tier! Unfortunately, I only now noticed your post at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:D%27Hondt_method

"There are 101 seats in the Estonian parliament and in the past elections the breakdown between the mandates awarded in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd (" d'Hondt* ") rounds of counting have been the following: in 1992: 17, 24, 60*; in 1995: 15, 34, 52*; in 1999: 11, 44, 46*; and in 2003: 14, 60, 27*."

Is this analysis from private resources (in other words, your own calculations) or has it been published? It's very interesting to me that there appears to be a trend that the number of representatives elected at the 2nd tier of counting has steadily increased, so that it comprised a majority at the last election in 2003. But, I'm curious about one aspect: is there further analysis that indicates which electoral districts have the least popular representatives, i.e., those who were elected at the 3rd tier? Do they represent less-developed agricultural areas?

I'm fairly knowledgeable about Latvia's electoral system and that does discriminate against those voters living in smaller electoral districts - which happen to be the less-developed agricultural areas.

Many thanks, again! : )

== Estonian History ==

Terre!

You have reverted my entry, and I am puzzled as to why this should be the case.

Firstly, I placed a comment about what I thought was missing on the discussion page, but this elicited no response. It was only then that I made my entry.

Secondly, you seem to imply that history is not about people. If it is not, I do wonder what on earth it is about. Surely, the history of the Estonian people and Estonia are one and the same thing? That is the way that most people in Western Europe would look at it, and the way our general history books are written.

There is indeed, a wikipedia entry on the Estonian People, but it is not particularly informative, and would not be the first port of call for someone wanting historical information.

The page already has a reference to the origins of the Estonian people, but it is not an interpretation that many in Western Europe would recognise. I only discovered the other version for myself upon visits to Estonia. Don't you think that it would be a good idea if both interpretations were given?

I don't intend to do anything further until I know your thoughts on this matter.

Request reason:

Dear Sir or Madam, With all due respect, there is no Misplaced Pages prohibition on editing non-protected articles using an IP address. I have made frequent good-faith edits without signing in, and sometimes simply forgotten to do so, and as a result, several IP addresses are indeed being attributed to my edits, without any violations occurring on my part that I would be aware of. The accusations brought into the SPI are vague on what specific abuse(s) they address. The severest accusation against me — of destroying the 2023 Estonian parliamentary election article - is absolutely false and unacceptable. All the relevant edits are on the record. Thank you for your time and consideration. 3 Löwi (talk) 01:06, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Decline reason:

From WP:LOUTSOCK: "Editing under multiple IP addresses, or editing under both a named account and as an IP, when done deceptively or otherwise violates the principles of this policy, may be treated as the same level of disruption as editing under multiple accounts." (Emphasis mine). Editors who really do forget they're logged out and care about their reputation (as well as their privacy) usually go right to oversight to take care of that. Based on the SPI and your characterization of your actions above, there is no reason to unblock you at this time. — Daniel Case (talk) 07:38, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to Eastern Europe or the Balkans, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Misplaced Pages’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Misplaced Pages administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Misplaced Pages;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Request reason:

Please unblock. I have not used multiple accounts and have no idea about who, where or why have been editing Misplaced Pages from under the account named D1Hondt. Please run a thorough IP check on the alleged "sockpuppet" account(s), please correct the error, and please unblock 3 Löwi. Thank you for your understanding. 3 Löwi (talk) 18:41, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Per WP:CHECKUSER, "On some Wikimedia projects, an editor's IP addresses may be checked upon their request, typically to prove innocence against a sockpuppet allegation. Such checks are not allowed on the English Misplaced Pages and such requests will not be granted.". This request does not address what is discussed in the SPI. 331dot (talk) 19:03, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
