Deletion Sorting Project |
---|
|
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Video games. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Video games|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Video games. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Misplaced Pages:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Misplaced Pages's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Fails WP:GNG. I couldn't find coverage other than from hobbyist blogs. FlightGear is a potential redirect target, as the article says it's a commercial rebranding of that software, but RealFlight is not mentioned at the target. ~ A412 18:26, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

This is the same scope as Dragon Quest, which already covers the gameplay of the series, including its history and its reception. This takes many of the same sources, and writes a worse article that focuses more on material that violates WP:VGSCOPE and WP:GAMEGUIDE. There is a consensus at the Video Games WikiProject that we shouldn't create this type of WP:REDUNDANTFORK, since there is nothing here that isn't covered at Dragon Quest. I would consider a redirect, but I don't see material that would be suitable for a merge. Shooterwalker (talk) 17:34, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Delete The gameplay itself does not seem to have been widely discussed by reliable sources and therefore fails WP:GNG.I do wonder about our similar article Gameplay of Overwatch, whose gameplay has been discussed at length, but apparently only by gaming magazines and similar sources. Anonymous 17:55, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect to Dragon Quest#Gameplay per Pokelego999 Anonymous 18:11, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect to Dragon Quest. While I would normally argue delete, deletion removes many viable redirects which are valuable targets. After the recent Gameplay of Pokémon AfD, I had to recreate many redirects that are genuinely useful search targets that got caught in the cross-fire of the article's deletion. Additionally, the redirect helps if anyone is, for some reason, wanting particular information on the Dragon Quest series's gameplay. Fails WP:NCORP; I'm unable to find more than a passing mention of this defunct retailer. It's mentioned briefly at the two references (first can be found in IA circa 2006), but not at a level passing WP:SIGCOV. In general that appears to be the pattern: a mention that someone worked there, or that someone bought something from there, but not substantial information on the company itself. ~ A412 16:45, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Non-notable per WP:GNG. French kickstarted MMO that seems to have been in open alpha for some time with no real routine or review coverage. It looks like there is some broadcast French interviews with the developers which are WP:PRIMARY sources and not very helpful for notability. An English WP:BEFORE found nothing, but accept some French WP:NONENG coverage might be out there. VRXCES (talk) 06:50, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Fails WP:GNG. No significant coverage for this series or "multimedia project". Even if you see this as a list, it seems to fail WP:NLIST. Only thing I found were articles about a Battlefront 2 update adding a Republic Commando character to the multiplayer mode: , . They don't imply that Battlefront 2 is part of the Republic Commando series. Suggesting merge/redirect to Star Wars: Republic Commando#Sequels. Mika1h (talk) 12:23, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Does not seem to meet WP:NBIO or WP:GNG, only mention in a to me seemingly reliable publication is a mention of three sentences. Red Bull source seems to be an interview, probably not intellectually independent. AlexandraAVX (talk) 09:23, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

A list of webcomics. The ancient last AfD had one keep vote for lack of rationale. There are two separate articles on minigames, My Game About Me: Olympic Challenge and Tasha's Game. - I was going to propose merging the small-scale games into this article, but I am exceedingly frustrated at how few of our sources on those actually even mention the source material for them. The Comics Alliance source seems like the most solid one here, but that doesn't carry an article. I got nothing on Double Fine Action Comics in my books either, and sadly I've become incapable of searching the web due to changes to google, so I will have to concur... Merge and Redirect into Double Fine. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 10:31, 1 January 2025 (UTC)

Top esports player who lacks significant coverage to prove notability. The profiles from Red Bull and ESPN are a good start, but the rest are either web articles of questionable reliability or independence (theScore eSports, EventHubs, G2 Esports) or routine coverage of changes in teams / sponsorships. - Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: People, Video games, and California. Bridget (talk) 20:36, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep - These two ESPN sources , , the Red Bull source , as well as published unauthorized biography probably pushes the subject over the edge in terms of notability. 14:00, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks Pbrks, were you able to find more info about the book or its author and publisher? The lack of info makes it look a bit suspect, and the blurb isn't too useful. Bridget (talk) 14:40, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

This biography of a living person was published with no sources, and is promotional and unencyclopedic in tone but has citations now.A ProQuest search yields 11 hits, all of which are brief mentions of her as a collaborator with Toby Fox and contributor of artwork to his video game, Undertale. A Google search yields more, but these do not meet Misplaced Pages standards for reliability (see WP:RELIABLESOURCES) and do not contribute to notability in the Misplaced Pages sense. Does not meet WP:BASIC, let alone WP:GNG. Cielquiparle (talk) 04:53, 28 December 2024 (UTC)Cielquiparle (talk) 08:45, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

- Redirect to Escaped Chasm. I've done source searching for her in the past out of curiosity regarding if she could have an article or not. She's not notable, and I don't think an argument could be made for her to pass WP:NARTIST either. So, with that being said, redirect this article to Escaped Chasm, which is a game that she created and actually has an article. λ NegativeMP1 04:57, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Artists, Businesspeople, Taiwan, and New York. WCQuidditch ☎ ✎ 07:27, 28 December 2024 (UTC)
Delete Unsourced WP:BLP. Sadly the page history shows this was never close to being adequately sourced. A redirect or merge to Escaped Chasm is not ideal as it doesn't contain biographical information and isn't the thing Chang is most known for, but is better than nothing!VRXCES (talk) 21:04, 28 December 2024 (UTC)- Keep Meets WP:NCREATIVE #3 as she played a major role in co-creating Undertale as its lead artist and concept artist, which some might call one of the best known indie games ever made without hyperbole, as well as Deltarune with a similar role. If Escaped Chasm is actually notable, it would give further credence to her being a notable creative. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 01:35, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately most of the coverage on Undertale focuses on Toby and mentions Temmie's role only very briefly (plus the fact that there is a creature named after her). Cielquiparle (talk) 02:08, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- This is completely wrong. Temmie is not regarded as a co-creator of Undertale, and she is only discussed as the artist for that game on the Undertale article (where she is covered in one sentence of the articles body). I also don't think NCREATIVE is valid here because of WP:INHERITED, due to the aforementioned lack of commentary about Temmie Chang's role in the game. There are practically zero reliable sources that discuss her as a person. λ NegativeMP1 02:19, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Redirect per NegativeMP. The page, as is, should be deleted due to the complete absence of sources. Madeleine (talk) 16:40, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Misplaced Pages:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:
People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.
- If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

The book discusses her on 3.25 pages.
From Google Translate: "TEMMIE CHANG Of course, Undertale is mostly the fruit of Toby Fox's imagination. But to say that he is the sole creator of the title would be an exaggeration. Let's talk about Temmie Chang, or Tuyoki, as she often goes by online. Born in 1993, she is two years younger than Fox and reaps a significant share of the game's laurels. Temmie Chang discovered her passion for video game universes very early on, when she watched her cousin play Breath of Fire, a classic J-RPG on Super NES. The atmosphere caught her eye, and even more so pixel art, as this graphic style is capable of conveying a lot of emotion by showing very little. Around 2006, she began to understand that it was possible to produce digital art and share it on the Internet, particularly on a site that was gaining momentum, DeviantArt. Her family encouraged her to continue in this direction, which pushed her to work on her pen stroke. At the same time, other pixelated creations arrived online, for example the 2004 titles Yume Nikki and Cave Story - don't worry, we'll soon cross paths with these two in this book - and with them real fandoms12 whose members provided magnificent illustrations and great short animated films. ... The rejection of this narrow but widespread vision of art made her hesitate to become a professional, but she finally opted for training in 2D animation that she followed at the Pratt Institute, an establishment in New York."

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism said, "In the online space, the digital native Tuko's mix of celebrity, entertainment, and political news with a light touch has proved successful." The article's tone is very positive about Temmie Chang. The article notes: "Temmie Chang was born on April 2, 1993, in Brooklyn, New York. This means that the talented animator is 27 years old as of 2020. The name Temmie was her grandmother's nickname. There is not much information about Temmie Chang’s parents and childhood. However, it is known that she graduated from the Pratt Institute in New York, which is a senior, private non-profit learning centre. Temmie graduated from the institution with a degree in 2D animation. This must have been the stepping stone to her remarkable career achievements in graphic designing and animation."
- Not convinced that Tuko.co.ke is a reliable source. But the book published by Third Editions looks like it could pass. Did you find any other sources? Cielquiparle (talk) 11:16, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- The other sources I found were passing mentions. Tuko.co.ke has not been discussed at Misplaced Pages:Reliable sources/Noticeboard so it is unclear whether it is reliable. In my research, the website shows signs of reliability based on Misplaced Pages:Reliable sources#News organizations. The website has editorial oversight and editorial standards. The website publishes corrections like this one. Tuko.co.ke has been cited in numerous books such as The Oxford Handbook of Kenyan Politics (Oxford University Press), Kenyan, Christian, Queer: Religion, LGBT Activism, and Arts of Resistance in Africa (Penn State University Press), Understanding the Higher Education Market in Africa (Taylor & Francis), To be Or Not to be: Sudan at Crossroads: a Pan-African Perspective: a Black African Nation Undone by the Ideology of Islamo-Arabism (Mkuki na Nyota), Doing Business in Kenya: Opportunities and Challenges (Taylor & Francis), and Digital Kenya: An Entrepreneurial Revolution in the Making (Palgrave Macmillan). Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism says on page 156, "Traditional media houses also face competition online from digital-born websites such as Tuku.co.ke, which reaches around 70% of our online sample each week. Much of its content is focused on entertainment and gossip attracting a younger audience. Tuku.co.ke also has a reputation for breaking and frequently updated news, which many older outlets struggle to match." Cunard (talk) 12:01, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
- Tuku.co.ke a gossip website and one of many on the Internet generating clickbait about living people with headlines like the one you've found here ("10 things you didn't know about $LIVING PERSON"). We can take it to the reliable sources noticeboard if you want, but I will remove it from the article for now, as it doesn't seem right for Misplaced Pages to be legitimizing these gossip/spam sites in biographies of living persons per WP:BLP. - Changing !vote to keep per WP:HEY. Easily meets WP:BASIC between her biography in the Third Editions book (found by Cunard) and multiple reviews of her own "solo" games in independent secondary sources, including Escaped Chasm and Dweller's Empty Path. All the subjective and unverified information has now been removed from the article, and all the facts that are there have citations. Additional personal details could be added with great care if they can be verified per WP:ABOUTSELF, adhering to the basic rules of WP:BLPSOURCES. Pinging @NegativeMP1, Vrxces, and Madeleine961: for possible reconsideration in light of new sources found and added. Cielquiparle (talk) 08:47, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for expanding the article with additional sources. Even without the Tuko.co.ke source, I agree these additional sources allow Temmie Chang to easily meet WP:NBASIC. Cunard (talk) 14:14, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- Ehh... I'm still not too convinced. This looks to be a singular paragraph worth of secondary coverage, unless there is something I am missing. λ NegativeMP1 18:06, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- Keep - the article is now in much better shape, and I'd consider the sources to be sufficient to establish WP:N for the subject. Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 08:53, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

Fails WP:GNG. I am unable to find significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources. The few sources I did find, like IGN and Engadge are trivial mentions of a couple of paragraphs each, and they attribute a forum post as their source. As far as I can tell, there are unfortunately no sources from when the subject was alive. I considered that the subject might meet WP:ARTIST, but I can't find any secondary coverage of a collective body of work. Woodroar (talk) 19:49, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

- Delete, as I alluded to in the WT:VG discussion. I don't think he meets NARTIST, and he definitely doesn't meet GNG. This feels like pure fancruft better fit for a Sonic fan wiki. λ NegativeMP1 22:08, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- Funny that you mention the Sonic fan wiki, because the article was copy-pasted from there yesterday. Our licenses are compatible so I added an attribution template above the references. There aren't any copyright issues, thankfully. Woodroar (talk) 22:17, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

- It worked out in this instance because our licenses were compatible. If they hadn't been, it's possible that the article would have been automatically deleted and you may have had your editing privileges removed. Please be careful next time. In fact, I would strongly urge you not to copy-and-paste any content on Misplaced Pages, even between articles, unless you know what you're doing. Woodroar (talk) 22:23, 28 December 2024 (UTC)

Fails WP:NCORP. There seems to be no significant coverage. The focus of the sources are the Outlast games, not the company itself. Suggesting redirection to Outlast as an alternative to deletion. Mika1h (talk) 18:48, 15 December 2024 (UTC)

- Redirect to its claim to fame (Outlast). --CNMall41 (talk) 20:15, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Keep there is clear coverage in at least two existing sources (edge and gi.biz) about the founding of the company that meet the independence of NCORP. That might be tied to talking about Outlast but that's expected for a developer that has focused on one series since founding. Masem (t) 21:20, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Are you referring to the edge article currently on the page?--CNMall41 (talk) 21:59, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that gi.biz is SIGCOV, but that Edge article (about Assassin's Creed) only has a passing mention to the company. --Mika1h (talk) 12:57, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- That's why I was wondering as the Edge article on the page is no where near meeting WP:ORGCRIT. The gi.biz is an industry publication so while it meets ORGCRIT, it is still not enough and not that strong of a reference to meet NCORP standards. --CNMall41 (talk) 19:15, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: It appears their sole product, the Outlast series, would be more notable. Could this be retooled into a series article? IgelRM (talk) 11:27, 18 December 2024 (UTC)

- Delete fails NCORP. No significant coverage. The Edge article is questionable as a reliable source. In any case, the coverage in that article is about the story of a person, not the company. Canada Media Fund article is routine coverage pertaining to funding, and commentary about funding, as noted in NCORP, is not acceptable as sourcing for notability. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 06:03, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- Coverage of funding for a company is not acceptable for notability criteria per NCORP, including in g-biz. ---Steve Quinn (talk) 06:07, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
- Delete None of the sourcing meets GNG/WP:NCORP criteria although perhaps a redirect to one of the games would also be applicable, if a suitable redirect (perhaps Outlast?) is agreed. HighKing 11:31, 3 January 2025 (UTC)
